Good Morning Goldens!

I have been having a busy but fun weekend. Not the best, food wise, but not really terrible, either. As most of you know, I had a little party at a poker tourney on friday night. It was a blast! Yes, I am a poker player too. I love it. Especially when the stakes are low and in my price range. ($20 buy in). Then it becomes about the game and the money is a nice bonus.

Marie, margeritas!!!! To funny. Was there something in the air this weekend? We both did a little imbibing?

Debbie, yoga is all about personal limits and expanding what you can do. I like it.

Cindi, Welcome back.

CK, I would keep some boxes, too! I love boxes and always think I need some. Then, I usually need a different size.

Karenfl,

Oh Crap! I hit the wrong button. Onward.....

Karenfl, I like the idea of the gummy bears clogging up their snouts.

Mary, it sounds like that program would really work for you. Your faith is a part of your strength and it should help you here.

Gayle, my mom nursed my dad through two hip replacements and two knee replacements. He told me a while ago that I am going to have to help with mom during her impending knee replacement. (like I wouldn't anyway!) His logic is that the pain is so terrible that she won't be able to handle it This woman gave birth 3 times, had spinal surgery, foot surgery, and all kinds of other things. Crazy talk. Men aren't good at that stuff and they always think that they are so miserable with minor ailments.

Bobbi, Yay on such a successful sale! You go girl.

Donna, I am cracking up at the cat jealousy stories. It is so true. Maybe this little annoyance is just the thing to give SamCat some serious perking up ?

Brenda, I would think that victim restitution would reimburse you for the cost of the meds. But, that will take some time. So sorry.

Dee, really glad about your dh test results. That is really good news.

Darcy, nice to hear from you again! The kids are very cute. I struggle with having "kid friendly" foods and snacks here for my gs. I usually go with the rule that certain things can't be here - like fritos. I just can't leave them alone!

Rosey, I hope things are going well for you. Hopefully, mr crankypants is on the mend and is achieving an attitude adjustment without the aid of your frying pan!

Hello to Zoe and Lynn. I hope you are having a great day!

Rie

Good Sunday to you all,
soft rain here, nice this morning.Power went out in the middle of the night and woke up freezing! Power here goes out A LOT~never know why.
I hope i get my $ for the stolen meds. Yes the post office has heard from me and will continue to until i am happy
Since i live 40 miles from a pharmacy its been much easier to get them by mail and its a free service. It was not walmarts fault. It was USPS fault for hiring such a idiot IF this dosnt get resolved I may have to start picking them up in Anchorage.

My green onions are coming up on my deck. yipppeee the first sight of green life is a thrill after a long winter.

Enjoy your day everyone,Brenda

Marie thank you so much. I have a community center for Senors and they offer many classes daily. I do a chair aerobics 2 x a week, something i thought i would never do. But i had to start somewhere. They offer several yoga classes during the week, one of them is with bible versus's. They do a boot came, young at heartrate class daily, but i'm not ready for that yet. Thank you for your input.

I tried edamame today, i roasted in with a dab of olive oil and spices. It was good. Its about 51% protein (soy i believe) and 48% carbs. Much better then any snacks or lima beans which is what it reminded me of.

Good Sunday everyone! It is another beautiful day here though not as warm so far. We had a great service at church and are now preparing lunch. Dh is grilling some small steaks (actually one split so thinner), and I prepared some asparagus for him to throw on the grill drizzled with a little olive oil and made potatoes on the stove. Sounds good to me!

Our pastor spoke today about making a decision. He recently lost a lot of weight and in illustration he told how he had to come to a point where he had to draw a line in the sand and stepped over it and determined not to go back with his past eating. I feel like this is what I have done. Then he said how there are then all these millions of other decisions you have to make along the way after you've done this...you know, with each day, each meal, each temptation, each emotional upset, whatever based on that first decision. So true and this is what I'm attempting to do by the grace (and power) of God. I've tried all the other ways and they have not worked for me but I keep coming back to this. I know for sure I will never give up because I know where that would lead me. So, like the old song says, no turning back. I may fall at times but I'll get up and keep on going.

Rie - Yes, I believe I can eat/do anything but that I am not to be enslaved by anything, but often I forget that and act like I am. I have been thinking about this for some time, not just in regards to food but other bad habits as well and I have decided to trust the Truth instead of giving in to bondage to food (or anything). I've already overcome much by applying this principle but food has been the hardest for me. I agree that it is best not to have some triggers in the house...it just makes it easier...Fritos is one of those for me too and we rarely ever have them, but my dh will bring home things for himself and I see them or he will offer them to me. I have often used this as an excuse to eat too much. So that will be a decision for me. Now that two gc will soon be living closer that will be come an issue as I love to make them treats so that will be another decision time for me.

Ladysheets - We also get our meds by mail. We use Expresscripts and order online. So far no problems. At least we don't have to pay so much so would not lose so much money.

Marie - You rarely screw up your diet so one meal surely will not hurt much. It's great about the desk! Sounds lovely!

Karen3 - How's the armadillo now, still around?

I stopped for dinner and it was very good. Sundays are always an eating challenge for me as we have our biggest meal in the middle of the day and then just snack the rest of the day. I usually just give up and say I'll start over tomorrow. So I made Sundays a non-dieting day but that doesn't go along with my new program. So today I hope not to do that, so today will be a day of decisions!

You all have a wonderful day!

Morning GG's,

Didn't end up doing much yesterday. Went to see DGD play football. It's flag-tag. She got tackled (a big no-no) right on the end zone and the ref didn't even call a penalty. She got shook up pretty badly. 2 boys tackled her and they were much bigger. I was so mad I wanted to crawl over that fence and smack the ref. And on top of not calling a penalty, he didn't give her the touch down. Yes, I am a soccer grandma. Same goes for football. We can get pretty bad. We had fresh corn for dinner yesterday. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. So sweet! I made 2 ears and I got one and Benny Dog got DH's. Next time I guess I'll have to make 3. We have to get the kids today, or rather run the kids down today. DGS has tract after school and DGD has to reherse her play. Catacism after that and DGD has her first soccer game. I'm not sure how she's going to fit all that in. Something is going to have to get skipped this week I believe.

Mrslosingit, Good luck with the weigh in. How did you do this week?

Dee, Hope you got through the weekend without having to resort to the kitkat cure. Hope your dad is doing better.

Mary, I've seen other people do the "faith" diet. I think we need help with everything. I'm sure you will do good with it. Your pastor is right, every meal is a decision. Fritoes are my down fall too. I will eat them untill I get sick. I can't have them in the house, so I don't. I buy a bag occasionally if the kids are here and i'm making chili. Love them in chili, and I know that they will all be gone and not there in the cabinet luring me in.

Debbie, Go for the Yoga. You never know if you can do anything or not untill you try it. All that bending and stretching is very beneficial. I've never had the patience for it, but i've tried it a few times.

Brenda, heard anything about the meds? I can't see how they couldn't reimburse you. Did you speak to the postal service too? They are responsible and so is wallmart.

Rie, Everyday can't be a perfect diet day. Life happens. I strive to do the best I can every day, and some days that includes a controlled splurge. Controlled is the watch word. Just be aware. And sounds like you did fine.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and hope you have a good Monday,

Freda

Good morning GG’s,

Two days down, one more to go. This is the last colorful day ~ I’m not wearing that solid black stuff one second sooner than I have to.

The state inspectors are supposed to be coming this week ~ yuck. So glad that I am doing the job I do now. They follow the nurses and aides around and watch them do stuff ~ pass meds, do dressing changes, other stuff. Having someone stand over your shoulder watching your every move ~ I’d be a nervous wreck. They don’t take that into account and give a bad mark if it’s not perfect. Again, YUCK.

Decisions ~ like Mary said. I am always thinking about this diet/exercise thing. Constantly trying, tweaking. Sometimes I do ok, sometimes not. I have let the walking/exercise slide. I think I feel better when I do it (will probably never be at the level of Marie, Rie, Lynn or Mary). When I am not doing it, I feel like I am losing ground. I get to thinking that I have the power in me to help myself. So, I need to bite the bullet and just do it.

So, this is not much so don’t laugh. I have begun trying to do the walking or something again. 15 minute chunks morning and evening. Walked yesterday in the grocery store parking lot pushing the little cart. Rode my bike around the circle last night instead of walking, as my legs and back were hurting. Walked 15 minutes on the treadmill this am (already too hot at 7:30 am to walk outside) ~ fan a blowing and radio playing. Which lesser of the evils will I choose tonight?

I figure that if I eat decently most of the days a week, that hopefully I will make some progress ~ even if it is a little slower.

I liked WW and did well at it at first. I have heard that you should pick a diet/lifestyle change that you can stick with for life. I have trouble thinking that I am going to write down every morsel I eat every day for the rest of my life. I pretty much eat the same things ~ with variations. So, I am thinking that if I write those down and get a combination of choices that are within my point range ~ I can rotate between those ~ and without having to write it all down all the time, know that I am still good and within my allotted points.

Thank you all for listening and letting me “think out loud”. Better go get ready for work now.

Hope you all have a great day

Good Morning GG's

I do hope everyone is doing well. I'v 'got it' right now. Gosh i love it when i have it. lol

Freda i will give yoga a try!

Gly writing everything down is how i do this. Even is you just do it for a month you may see some patterns that might be very helpful to you. Give it a try, OK?

Mary eating healthy is simply making a bunch of good decisions through out the day. Each good decision adds up.

Have an awesome day. HEALTHY!

This is the funniest story! This morning I was taking a shower and the smoke detector started to beep. At first I thought Jerry was cooking something, in which case he usually just takes the smoke detector down off the wall until he's finished. It kept beeping. I hollered out "What's going on?" No answer. So I turned off the water and got out of the shower, dripping wet and still soapy, opened the bathroom door and hollered out "What's going on?" No answer. Then I started thinking something happened to Jerry, so I ran out, still naked and wet and soapy, and he was no where to be found. I was really panicking! I didn't see any smoke or fire, but I was concerned. Finally I opened the cellar door and he was walking up the cellar steps. I asked him what was going on and he said "I don't know. I was in the garage." He checked everything out and nothing seemed to be wrong. He changed the battery, even though that was not the beep that indicated that the battery needs to be changed. After a few minutes, it started to beep again. I got dried off and dressed. He took the detector down to the garage to see if it would go off down there, indicating that something must be wrong with the detector, but it was fine. It's back up now and not beeping. The only thing we can figure out is that it detected the steam from the shower somehow. I had the door closed, and I take a warm shower, not a hot shower. The mirror's don't even steam up. But we can't figure out why else it was beeping.

When my fasting BS started getting into the 170 - 190 range I decided I had to do something. They usually run in the 120's and that is normal for me. So over the weekend I started paying a lot more attention to the amount of carbs and portion sizes. I usually only test in the AM, but on Saturday I tested before dinner and was at 98. That was unusual but very good for me. Last night I tested before bed and was as 114 and thought that was also good, but when I got up this morning I was at 142. I understand about the dawn phenomenon but having a snack doesn't seem to make a difference. I am not going to mention this to my DR because I don't want to be put on more meds. That's always their answer. I will continue to tweak my diet and get back to my exercise and try to lower it that way. I really think I can make a difference that way and it should help with my weight. I know I was in carb **** over Easter.

I found a recipe online for coated french fries. The recipe calls for "1 envelope of coating mix for chicken." Do you think this would be something like Shake and Bake for Chicken? I'm not sure what they mean. We get coated fries at the casino sometimes and DH loves them. I thought I would try to make them since he is such a potato lover. All it takes is a big plate of fries to make him happy.

Darcy - Noah is so cute and seems to be thriving in spite of his rocky start! He definately has a lot of love around him.

Brenda - Where do you get your meds? When I worked at Medco, if a patient's meds were stolen, Medco ate the cost of the replacement. And if a patient started reporting stolen meds too often they got put on "signature required" status. Also, since USPS knows it was their worker who stole them you should be able to file a claim. I see that everyone else is making the same suggestion.

Bobbi - You did really good with your rummage sale. When we have them, we usually don't have anything of great value to sell, but it's unbelievable that people will pay for things that you consider total junk. They have a use for it. We usually come in around $200 total.

Cindy - Nice to meet you. I don't think I was posting yet when you were here last. I don't recognize the name.

Marie - I know what you mean about the spandex in jeans. I am really uncomfortable in jeans without it, but I try to tell myself that if I lose a few pounds that uncomfortable feeling will be gone.

Rie - I've heard you mention Chopped from time to time so I watched it yesterday. It was interesting, but they were making things that I would never eat. I like to watch Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I sit there realizing that there are so many foods out there that I have never had the chance to taste and at this stage of my life, I probably never will. Either everything on the show appealed to me yesterday, or I was really really hungry! If I could go back again, I would spend my life traveling to all these places to sample these foods. That is if I lived that long after eating all those unhealthy foods. My ticker goes up just looking at them! LOL

Hi girls. Had a nice weekend socially speaking but just awful for food and exercise.

Friday I went shopping and never again unless it's an end of the world emergency! The sales start on Friday and one of the grocery stores had dollar days. What line ups. If I had been in my own town I'd have just gone home but as I was there I ended up waiting half an hour in line. It was worse than Christmas.

Our youngest DS and DIL showed up in our driveway Sunday afternoon
driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra the same colour as the one below. I guess he's really grown up now with a wife, house and brand new car. LOL

Speaking of keeping a stash of cash for emergencies reminded me of my friend's mother. She passed away a few years ago and when the family was going through her personal effects they found $10,000 in her purse. This is the purse she used everyday. I have a stash but I don't keep it in my purse.

I guess I'll see you all in May. Have a great day.

Hi girls, I'm just now sitting down and reading the post. Our second day (Saturday 8-12)of the rummage sale was a bust. It was cold, windy and rainy so we didn't get many takers. Overall I made $737.00, was pleased. We had a almost new wood chipper that sold for $200.00 and helped bring in a good $ number. The little town about 2 miles from us is having an all town rummage sale the end of May, maybe I can ditch the last 6 bucket loads we have left. The last couple of days I've been going through my recipe boxes (4) and throwing out old recipes I haven't used for years, saving just the good ones. I found all sorts of recipes I'd forgotten about. I made some rice pilaf to go with our Cod tonight. I had one apple left in the frig that I chopped up with raisins and made cole slaw. (another forgotten recipe). You all know I've been planning meals around my pantry/freezer, today I used a package of frozen butternut squash and made sugar free pumpkin custard.
Now I have to get busy on my budget, I've been waiting for the end of the month when all bills are in before starting. The good news about our grocery bill for the whole month of April was only $119.38, a record for us. We've never been stingy when buying groceries, that is until now. Live and Learn!
I'll set up the new May Golden Girls now so I don't forget. See you all tomorrow on the new thread.
