  • Morning all,

It is so cold here. Where did our warm weather go? I did laundry yesterday and hung the bedding outside and the wind blew it off. We've got the first soccer game of the season (DGS) and it will be winter coat, hat and gloves and blankets. The kids games have started and we will be running for the rest of the summer.

Marie, I did a little cleaning yesterday, rested a lot. I can't just sit around, I get totally bored and start walking the floor. Do you make smoked turkey? My cousin makes it and it's sooo good. Turkey is my favorite too. I've never had it on the grill. Instructions?

Bobbi, I love guns. My enire family hunts. But, enough is enough. You're right to put your foot down. Spending that much money shoud be a family decision. Does he help with the finances? Maybe if you sit him down and show him how it's affecting the household money?

Lynn, Your plan sounds so interesting, and fun.

Karen31, no matter where you are, or how beautiful the place, there is nothing like being around family and friends.

DeeLee, Did you get the results back tests back yet? Praying that you get good news. If you DH doesn't like the other doctors, find new ones. I wouldn't go to one that I didn't trust or like. And I do buy the frozen yogurt, but only occasional and I don't try to fool myself into thinking that it's "free" food. Have you looked at how many calories some of those coffee drinks are?

Gayle, I hope you are having a good day at work.

Rosie, Outside getting our Vit. D? A little sun works wonders. How is my crabby pants? Hope he is turning back into Mr. wonderful. Men don't do illness well.

Karen3, I wish I was retiring with Zoe, but I have a LONG time to go. Well, not really long, it just seems that way now. I should be able to retire in Dec. I have to start looking into things soon. Maybe that's why you thought I was retiring soon. I have to check on things at work and make sure all that is lined up.

Rie, is that stupid scale saying something you don't want to hear? I admire your restrait. It shoudl be thrown against the wall. The lying thing!!! If you're eating right and exercing (and you are) it will say the right thing soon.

Isabell, I hope you're ok. Is that knee hurting today? And I'm sure the entire congregation thought you fell gracefully.

Donna, Sorry Sabrina got scared and scratched. She was probably so startled that someone would pick her up. Isn't it sad? But I know you will be patient and hopefully she hasn't been so scared that she won't warm up to you. Stray animals break my heart. Don't you wonder how she survived this long? She must be a scrappy little thing.

Carol Sue, Barriactric surgery is a tool, but, you're right' it doesn't take those craving away. I admire our Rosie. But sometimes you have to decide what you want more. Dieting isn't easy. Being fat isn't easy. Pick your easy.

DH is up now and I'm going to go start breakfast. I'm trying a new recipe this morning that I got from one of the cooking magazines. It's a puff pancake with apples. You bake it in the oven. sounds good, and lower calorie. I'll let you know

    Freda
  • Good morning GG's,

We attended my niece's wedding this past weekend and it was wonderful and over the top. Fortunately I was able to wear a dress from a few years ago and looked better in it now than then. Up a couple of pounds now but it was worth it!

Just heard that my son who graduates from college in June will be moving to Omaha to work 2 weeks later. Of course I'm sad but grateful he has a good job lined up as so many are struggling. He's moving into a partially furnished house and I have to decide if I should help move him with my van and a trailer as he only has a Corolla; or let him "work it out on his own" as DBF suggests. That sounds cruel to me as I don't think anyone should have to move alone, especially cross country.

    What do you girls think?

Have a great day and Hello to all!

    Andi
  • Very quick hola, Goldens!

Woke up early and so have time to peruse the postings, but have to get rolling soon!

Found out that the tests, etc. ordered by GM's new doc are NOT covered by GM's insurance, so we'll be going back to the Senior Center... she's on Medicare and Medicaid, which means she HAS NO MONEY. It's a difficult concept, I know... speaking of local pharmacies gouging the seniors, Marie. I'll be on the phone again tomorrow, trying to straighten this out for her.

Freda - Sabrina, the girl, turned out to be Sabrino, the boy. I caught him grooming, and he's a BIG boy, obviously not neutered. The interesting thing today is that SamCat is suddenly VERY interested in the plate of food that I fix for Sabrino. His Highness has developed a fondness for very cheap wet and dry cat foods! I don't care what he eats, as long as he eats! So, between the two food offerings (SamCat's better quality and Sabrino's less expensive quality), both are eating well.

More later, maybe.... Everyone, have a lovely day! Later, lovelies!
  • Hey Goldens,
another beautiful alaska day ahead. Sunshine and bluebird sky!
Planted some green onions yesterday in a pot i can bring in and out for awhile. still to cool at night for plants here. We usually can plant our gardens and flowers around memorial weekend. This year we have had so much snow i dont know if it will be may or june before we can plant.

someone asked how long our summer warmth last. well its in the 50s now which is really nice here. we will continue to warm up until probably september then we go south again. Long winter months here but the summers are so worth it they are just incredable.

Wow Karen your friend moving from Hawaii to Springfield Mo. what a culture shock ha... my family lived in springfield for years. My father built homes there in the 50s and 60s. DH and i would love to move to Hawaii and just live the island lifestyle before we are too old to enjoy it all. Its in our radar but the cost even tho its similar to alaska has kept us from going as of yet.
My family wants us back in Missouri but i dont see that happening. except to visit.

well im off to swim and do my water exercises. trying to lose enough to get into a pair of summer pants i love. 10 more pounds and i should be in them. they fit so nice at one time what did i do?

I about burnt up lastnight. I sat out on the deck yesterday and read a magazine and got sunburnt. Didnt realize it until i looked in the mirror early this am when i was so HOT> makes HOT flashes twice as bad..

wow....i may need to go jump in a snow bank !!!!

have a great day girls. Rosey i love the pancakes. yummmy~ right up my alley!

Have a great tuesday girls~ Brenda
  • Hello everyone, i have been out of town for a few days. Lots of exercise but not really good choices.

Todays goal...back on track both with food and movement.

    Have an awesome day!

    xxoo

If it were my daughter I would DEFINITELY help.

    Lynn
  • You know I would be there to help! But I would ask first.
  • Now that I think of it, why didn't the DBF offer to ride along and help us himself? Hmmmm. I think that's because he had to move himself from home when he was that age and he thinks that's the way it should be, but he didn't have family willing to support him back then. Funny how men think that the way THEY did something in the day is the CORRECT way to do it.
  • Subject: Shampoo Warning

    PLEASE READ!

INVOLVES SHAMPOO WHEN IT RUNS DOWN YOUR BODY WHEN YOU SHOWER WITH IT!!!!

    WARNING TO US ALL!!!

YOU NEED TO READ THIS. DON'T DELETE IT BEFORE READING!

I HAVE JUST RECEIVED THIS WARNING!

    Shampoo Warning

I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner!

I use shampoo in the shower!

When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and printed very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning,

    "FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY."

No wonder I have been gaining weight!

Well! I have gotten rid of that shampoo and I am going to start showering with Dawn dish soap instead.

Its label reads, "DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE."

    Problem solved!

If I don't answer the phone

    I'll be in the shower!

  • Rie, my knee is amazingly quite fine and my dignity has regained it's dignity. I hope your meeting goes well tomorrow.

Hello Donna. Good to see you're still on this side of the sod. Do you think you will ever tame Sabrino? Feral cats are usually wild for life. It will be very interesting to see how things go with him. At least he's getting fed. Will your GM's tests be covered by medicare or are there other tests that will be covered?

Lynn, I once ended up in hospital when I fell a few years ago. I knocked myself out and thought I was paralyzed when I woke up. I fell so fast I didn't have time to even put my hands out to break the fall and fell directly on my face. So I'm kind of paranoid about falling, too. I love your birthday dinner idea. I watched two episodes of "Chopped" yesterday and thought of you. I hope your baskets don't contain anything too weird, haha.

Bobbi, DH and I both have an "allowance" to do with what ever we want. But he always complains when I spend mine on something he doesn't think is DH approved! He saves his up and buys wood and other things for the house. I use mine on whatever I want. Sometimes I save it up and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I could give him a good crack up the side of his head.

Carol Sue, I'm like you with the cauliflower. I eat the mashed potatoes and don't substitute.

Rosie, I hope Mr. Cranky Pants has become sweeter today.

Karen3, we too have Seniors Living In Sin for the same reason. No one wants to lose the little bit of money they do get so they move in together. Why do governments think two can live as cheaply as one? I, myself would sooner stick a needle in my eye than get married again or have a man move in with me. I was just telling DH that last night.

Dee, I love that book by Robert Munsch. His books were favourtes in my classroom. I always got a little emotional reading "Love You Forever" but had to keep my composure in tact reading to 6 year olds. Bone spurs are from the devil.

Hi Gayle. Haven't seen you in a while. I always kept my alarm clock across the room so I'd have to get up to turn it off. Hateful things.

    Karen31
, sounds like you have a lovely family lunch with your aunt and cousin. I have only one living aunt and she lives in Illinois so I don't expect I'll ever see her again.

Mary, sorry you're feeling sad about your DD. Kids are the most stressful people to deal with.

Marie, so glad you found the cheaper meds for the pets. We've had a few summery days here also and I just love them. We can most likely have snow yet in May but I'll take every nice day I can get.

Freda, was it very cold at DGS's soccer game? My bum gets so cold when I'm outside in the cold. I don't know if I fell gracefully, but when I did fall one of my friends called out very loudly asking me if I was alright, LOL.

    Webwoman
, I'd certainly help my DS if they were moving. We helped both our boys when they moved, especially the first move for their first jobs. We helped buy some furniture and kitchen items.

Ladysheets, we have a late growing season here in Newfoundland. We always have to watch for late frost. I guess Alaska is the same in that respect.

Debbie, you'll get back on track. Going out of town is always a challenge.

I made this salad today for dinner.
It's a Spinach and Quinoa Salad with Grapefruit and Avocado. Very yummy. I know some of you don't like quinoa but this was really nice. I've had quinoa that was hard and had to pick it out of my teeth for hours but this was nice and soft. When I cooked the quinoa I made sure it wasn't hard and nasty. You can find the recipe here: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2012/03/s...with.html#more

Hope everyone is having a great day.
  • Love it Bobbi!!! Be back later-- I'm throwing out all my shampoo!!! LOL!!
  • Freda, the Weber kettle BBQ, just start the briquettes, then divide them in two piles with a throw away aluminum pan to catch the drippings in the middle. Cook till down. Easy. And I hate smoked turkey. Actually I hate anything smoked. I guess I’m more of a non-smoker than I realized.

Andi, I’d help move too. I think your DBF is wrong, wrong, wrong. Your son will remember you helping with happiness and would remember you not helping with confusion.

Donna, I’m glad SamCat is eating. I try everything and anything with Kai. So when they eat, we don’t question the ingredients.

Brenda, at the double hot flashes. Never thought about a sunburn with hot flashes. That would be mighty uncomfy.

Debbie, hopefully the lots of exercise will counteract the food somewhat.

Bobbi, as my hair can occasionally look limp and like a string bean, perhaps it’s not the shampoo making my body fat. Thinking literally about using Dawn in my hair – eeks!

Isabella, I think if DH is buying wood, there is probably extra to crack him upside the head.

Not much going on here in sunny land. I’m enjoying that!
    Marie

Had the bottom of the pool cage rescreened today. They put a 15" kick plate around bottom so lawn kid can't weedwack the screen. Carpet guys Thurs. Then the house will be clean and tidy. sighhhhhh life is good.

Just read an interesting article about Martha Raye (the big mouth) singer. She was also an RN and an officer in the reserves and would relieve OR staff when she was on USO tours. Wow that was quite a fabulous generation.

  • Hi Goldens!

I am prepped and ready to go for my meeting tomorrow. I am a little worried but I think it will be ok. I was up with the sun today, worked out, worked all day, practiced pool, spent time with dgs, worked a little more, then came here to visit my GG friends. I am pooped. It has been really warm here today and it is almost 80 degrees in my house tonight.

My mom and ds are fighting . Guess what? They are BOTH wrong!

Donna, I have never been able to tame a feral kitty. Be careful, ok? Anything that will get Samcat to eat is a good thing. Sorry about GM medical bills. That is so unfair. Why doesn't medicare and her part B cover stuff?

Rosey, I hope that your dh gets better soon. Get pissed all you want. I personally think that is part of my mom's issues right now - my dad is such a crabby pants. I will send a chunk of wood from Isabella. I loved the Hunger games books and the movie. It surprised me.

Karen, LOL on the side effects. OMG I am glad that you feel better. Take my advice.... Get rid of the guest room furniture. Create a woman cave like CaddyK, a craft room like gayle, turn it into a new den, computer room, underwater basket weaving room, or whatever but stop them from staying with you! I leave for Vegas on May 9th.

Marie, I hate it when work interferes with my life!

Isabella, worrying about falling is the only thing that makes me feel old. Glad that you are ok. Your salad looks wonderful.

Caddyk, I love the idea of your family lunches. There was a kfc buffet in another town. I could eat myself sick there!

Andi, a few years ago my dad, mom, and I piled in dad's pickup to move my ds and dil from Athens Ohio to Texas. We pulled the Uhaul trailer. It was quite a round trip from Montana. I think we could have paid for movers cheaper than all the gas My ds remembers it fondly. I made it all the way back to Buffalo, Wy before I lost it.

Gayle, I hope your work week is easy.

Freda, I am going to roll up my food diaries and start beating the scale with them! Sooner or later I will win this battle!

Bobbi, I need to stop the "growing shampoo"! Obviously it is working.

Mary, sorry about your dd Some folks are just angry.

Lynn, I can't wait to hear about the chopped episode! What a great idea.

CarolSue, you will get your bs numbers back on track. You have been through a lot with your health.

Brenda, on double hot flashes. I would give a lot for a snowbank tonight. The air conditioner isn't ready to go and I am roasting. If I lived alone I would be wearing less clothes!

    Happy retirement Zoe

Sorry for missing folks. I need to get some rest and wind down. It sure was nice chatting with you.

    Rie
