G'mornin' all.....back at work after an extremely busy weekend; Dh & I took care of the twins on Saturday because my daughter & her best friend flew down to Huntsville, AL Friday night to spend the weekend with an old college friend who was having a momentous birthday (30 - Imagine!) and my son-in-law had a professional training day at school. Mid-day on Saturday, DD's friend (the one she flew down with) got a phone call that her 8 yr-old daughter had been rushed to the hospital with some kind of acute stomach problem, which turned out to be appendicitis - it ruptured - and they had do do emergency surgery. All this while DD and her friend frantically had to arrange for a flight back right away - talk about stress - and the poor woman has NEVER left that child to go anywhere before, felt a little trepidacious about doing it this time, but was assured by her husband that he could handle everything and she should go and enjoy herself. Riiiiiiight. Naturally, no-one could have anticipated a burst appendix, but of course, she is overwhelmed with guilt. Luckily the child made it through the surgery successfully and is now recovering - in hospital, still, and being shot full of antibiotics, but doing okay. Such excitement. Whew.
But we were fine with the twins, and got their sister off to her dance practice in the morning and her soccer game in the afternoon without incident.
My son was in Montreal over the weekend with three old friends - a "bachelor" weekend for one of the friends who is getting married next month. Made it home safely and in one piece despite my worrying a bit. I have to remind myself pretty frequently that he's been on his own in California for five years and survived quite nicely - and I'm sure he will continue to do so back in MA.
Yesterday, DH & I took our grandson - the 8 yr-old who is autistic - to Old Sturbridge Village, which he enjoys a lot, and then out for supper. He got to ride in the stagecoach and took a boatride all around the village and came home feeling quite accomplished - bubbling over with descriptions of his day to anyone who would listen. He's such a sweet little guy, and super-intelligent, with very detailed questions about how everything works, but doesn't do very well socially or in group settings. He does well with DH and I, though. Sometimes I just wish we could take him and keep him with us permanently.
Sooooooo, I FINALLY got my eating back under control this weekend. Being with the twins is a good thing, because it's hard to find TIME to eat - and then traipsing around Sturbridge Village is good exercise as well. (Not that we don't get plenty of exercise with the twins as well - I know Isabella can attest to that one since her grandbaby is the same age as our little guys.) But despite being unwilling yet to get on the scale, the bloat from overeating is gone, and I'm feeling less "marshmallowy" and clumsy. This weight control business is just a constant series of ups and downs for me, I'm afraid. I do great for long periods of time and then DON'T do so great for awhile. THEN get back on track...ah, well. I may as well reconcile myself to this being the way it is: I will NEVER just be effortlessly slim and trim. PT, hello my dear...delighted to report decent weather hereabouts for the time being; I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Memorial Day weekend since we'll be up in the White Mountains and spending a lot of time outside.
G'morning, Bobbi - I've been meaning to weigh in (no pun intended) on the job issue - Sounds to me like your life is pretty danged full as it is, and a job, for however few hours it might be, IS an obligation that pretty much ties your time to a schedule. Not to mention driving in bad weather....oh, not me...I wouldn't do it if I had any choice in the matter. And definitely not for that little bit of money. By the time you pay for your gas, there won't be much left. But, of course if you actually would LIKE to do it and would enjoy it, then why not? Hah. Big help, right?
Hi Freda...I know what you mean about work days. Gawd. They just fly by, don't they?
Hi Rosey - Good grief. What are you, the Alaska Hilton? I guess you must be an extraordinarily good hostess, considering all the visitors that have booked their summer vacations with you! Sounds busy, that's for sure!
Hiya Lynn - why so long without sleep? Yikes! I could NEVER do it - not anymore. I hope you find what you're looking for over there, tho...and enjoy some of that beautiful countryside while you're at it!
Okay, nose back to the grindstone here...have a terrific day GG's!!!
Z
Good Morning, All....
Can you BELIEVE May is almost over? Time for a new avatar and font color! Decisions, decisions.....
PT, sounds like you had a very busy weekend! I think it's great that you get to spend so much time with your GBabies; and I wonder how Isabella is doing? All you grannies out there: good job!
Lots of errands to do today, so I'd better get rolling. All is marvy here! Be safe!
Good Morning everyone! Hope you have a lovely day.
It's hot here! Well, not really hot, as it's only 75 right now, but it's been so cool that it SEEMS hot in comparison. And it's supposed to be in the 80's today. It will probably reach that, since it's only 10 oclock right now. Air is ready to come on! Complained about the cold all winter, now it's time to complain about the heat.
I worked all weekend, and today is all house cleaning. I am just a tad annoyed at DH right now. He is home bored (his words) all weekend alone and the house is a mess on Monday. I think next weekend I have to work I will have a detailed list. I just hate to see him bored. Doing it for him, of course.
Picking the Grands up later and tonight is soccer and baseball. Last day of soccer for Kenzie and we're going for ice cream after. No low cal at Dairy Queen. give me strength!
Z, Glad you got your eating undercontrole. We all get off sometimes. We're not totally perfect, but if we eat right 80-90% of the time, I think that's good. I just might have a small cone of icecream tonight! Again, I might not. I'll decide when I get there. And I won't feel guilty, because it will be a decision. And running those babies is excellent exercise. I'm sure they weight quite a bit and you're not only running them, but picking them up all day. There you go, arobics and weights.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOBBI AND ROSEY!!! Hope your day was just great.
I had a wonderful weekend at home. It's a long weekend here in Canada so I didn't have to come back until Monday. The trip was happily uneventful considering the traffic was heavy at times. I kept to the speed limit as best I could and let the traffic pass me if they wanted to go faster (as everyone did). Going home on Friday I saw a moose but it was off the road quite a ways which I was thankful for. I hit a robin last weekend and the impact was startlingly more than I expected. The robin was enough for me. The moose had better stay off the road.
We had company in for dinner the weekend so I had "company" food which I indulged in to my hearts content so this week I need to be careful in my choices. I'm going to make that soup Bobbie wrote about in her post on Friday or Saturday to help curb the calories.
When I arrived at DS's place I brought in my stuff and laid it down on the kitchen floor. Poor little GS tripped over the strap on my laptop bag and fell between the frig and the cupboard giving himself a goose egg on both sides of his head. Poor little guy cried and cried but was soon soothed by his mother and father. The bumps have gone down but he'll have some bruising there. I won't be leaving the bag there again. I wasn't actually leaving it there as I was just bringing in a few bags and that's where I left them while I was getting more stuff from the car. It's a good thing babies don't remember all the bumps and falls they get.
Hope everyone has a great day. See you all tomorrow.
Hi Everyone,
I just joined 3fc a couple of weeks ago. I am still trying to figure out how to get a weight tracker on here. I'm at work right now, so I'm going to work on it tonight at home after work. Anyway, I joined MRC in November and started at 240 lbs. I have now lost 52 lbs. and am on my way to my goal weight of 165. When I reach that, I'll see if I feel comfortable at that weight, which I think I probably will. I am losing consistently every week. Last night I was given an engagement ring. I'm very excited and happy. I hope everyone has an excellent day!
Taxigirl (name?), welcome! Such an exciting time of life for you! Congratulations on everything!! You might try www.tickerfactory.com and see if you can get a weight tracker. It takes at least 20 days to use the one through 3FC.
Isabella, what a story! Your baby is going to have something to tell his shrink when he's 40, yes? I'm sure he got lots of extra hugs and kisses...
Everyone, hope you're well, that the birthday girls celebrated well... I have lots of running to do again today, so I'm off to it!
Hi and Good-bye for the day.......I found a recipe for Donut Muffins and want to try them out before it gets too hot. The reviews say they taste little the little Tom Thumb donuts. No yeast in them either. I'm trying different things for GS graduation party. Catch ya later or tomorrow.
Doing genealogical research in Ireland is MUCH different from doing it in US. Because of a civil war in 1922, MANY records were burned. So far, my research has focused on reviewing rolls of microfilmed Catholic Church registers from the early and mid nineteenth century.
Although it is tedious, I have found quite a bit of information including my great, great grandmother's maiden name - Prendergast. Today I hope to find a record of her marriage and her address in Waterford, Ireland.
Last night, on way back to hotel from dinner, I almost got caught up in a protest march. Government is making severe austerity cuts & folks are marching in protest. Kind of loud, but seemed friendly. Zillions of police around.
TAxigirl, Welcome. Hope to see you here often. It's a great support system/cheering section! Congratulations on the "ring". Any date yet?
Lynn, sounds like you're having a great time. Enjoy every min.
Donna, Did you get all your running done yesterday? Seems like that all I do some days!
Isabella, Oh no!! Poor little thing! I bet he got lots of loving yesterday! But those things happen to little ones, ones of the rites of passage i suppose. Have to get a few bumps and bruises along the way.
Bobbi, I KNOW you didn't eat any of those donuts, except to taste to see if they were good. One tiny, teeny little bite, right?
Rosey, How exciting about the DGD visiting, oh and the DD too! Those Grands are so fun, aren't they?
Z, The kids really keep us on our toes, don't they. Not sure if they are keeping us young or wearing us out!
More house cleaning today. Darn house. Clean one thing and another thing is dirty! I have really simplified lately. gotten rid of most of the "dust catchers" and making things easier for myself. Just don't have the patience any more. Why did I buy all that junk anyway?
Freda, it looks like you and I think alike in more ways than one. I have been, over the years, an avid collector of antiques, oriental rugs (EVERY room, including bathrooms, has them, and some are rolled up in the back closet), books, paintings, urns filled with great, towering dried ferns and palmetto branches and such.....oh, I could just go on and on. In doing a massive clean-up in preparation for my son's temporary stay, I got rid of an amazing amount of clutter and simplified like crazy. I gave some stuff to my daughters (not much - they are very contemporary in their decorations and seem to subscribe to the "less is more" theory), packed some stuff into the attic, and gave some stuff to The Salvation Army. Like you, I'm just tired of the upkeep, and of course if I don't dust and polish, it just doesn't happen, so I'm better off without it all.
Donut muffins, Bobbi? For gawd's sake, DON'T post that recipe! Temptation is something I clearly can do without these days. I've only just managed to crawl back up on the wagon this week, and my perch is a little fragile. Wouldn't take much to knock me off...but I'm holding tight for dear life! (They sound divine, though! ) PT, you're keeping busy AND dropping pounds along the way! Good going! (When I get too busy, I find it hard sometimes to watch my eating as carefully as I should - you can obviously handle it better.)
Oh, Isabella, you must've been devastated when your poor little grandbaby got hurt! We KNOW they're going to get bumped and bruised, but knowing it doesn't make it any easier on us - or them - when they do. Our little guys are getting into everything these days - one is walking/running quite adeptly and the other is close on his heels, almost there. They've discovered how to open the lower kitchen cabinets, which my daughter deliberately left knobless when they were installed, anticipating another baby (or two) and figuring that without knobs, the cabinets would be much harder for them to open. Turns out they're harder for US to open, but the boys, with their little teeny fingers, can open them easily. My DH is busily installing child-proof knobs and locks. Jeesh!
Hiya Karen! What's up in your neck of the woods? Got that pool open yet? Just say the word, and we'll all be right over! (Don't worry - we'll bring our own towels and floats, right, GG's???)
Sounds like you're making progress, Lynn. Be careful, though. Sometimes those demonstrations start out quite cheerfully, but don't end that way.
Hi Rosey! I'm glad you're going to have some extended time with family. As you know, my son and his fiancee are staying with us for the time being, and it's actually working out very well!!
And a great good day to all...
Z
