  • Karen, are your babies womb mates? They're surely purely precious!! Were they glad to get home? Next time you're in Colorado, I DO want to hear from you!!!!

Good night, all..... PT, be safe on your drive!
  • Hi Everyone,
I have a two—page list of “to-do’s” for today. Getting things back in order at home takes me a while. I remember when I used to travel for work – at least I don’t have to catch up with my teaching job – finished that while I was away. Online teaching is GREAT!

    Quote: Good Morning Girls!
We woke up to beautiful sunny weather today, unfortunately we have high wind warning (40+ gusts) and today is our annual bike-a-thon. We have hundreds of bikers from all over riding and raising money for cancer. They'll probably have to cut the 100 mile route short because of the winds, bummer! They have support groups all over the route with food and water plus pick-ups to bring back people that can't make it.
Nothing exciting happening here today, working on my rummage sale pricing. May 7-8 is our sale and I'm cleaning out again, how many of you are pack-rats? I tend to save things thinking I'll get around to using it/them and never do. I've been a sucker for items on sale my whole life and since we're both retired, I haven't slowed down much. After our basement remodeling job, I'm beganing to thick twice about what I buy. Who needs all that stuff anyway? I have a GE counter-top oven/rotessiers down stairs that need to go on the rummage sale. I only used it a few times and a person with my personality shouldn't be allowed to use it. I tend to burn food in them because I can't stand to wait by it for the food to get done. I walk away and the next thing I know, the food is on fire. My dog hates the thing and runs whenever I bring it up to use. Tell me to put it on the sale. I have a perfectly good printer with ink in it but it won't print out envelopes so I purchased a new one. I thought I'd keep the old one in case my new one stops working. HA! I'm seriously going to put the old one on the rummage sale. O.K. I'm rambling, you all have a great day.
Lynn...you'll have to tell us the high points of your vacation when you get home and Zoe, same with you.
    Have a great May Day!
    Hi Bobbi,
Get rid of all of it! Time for us to simplify our lives. After my DH had his stroke, before we were living together, I had to go through his house and get rid of TONS of STUFF! Took me months to clear out all the STUFF he had acquired. After that, I keep my home pretty simple. I don’t ever want my DD to have to do that for me.

    Quote: Hi Bobbi,

Your story about the toaster oven reminds me of the Dobie we had--whenever I used my rotisserie she would disappear. I didn't see her for hours when I was making a turkey.

I don't even have a spare bedroom anymore. I had everything in a stor-all but couldn't afford it anymore so one bedroom is the stor-all and the other one has all my clothes of various sizes. But the deal is I have to get rid of anything that doesn't fit by the end of the summer.

I should have a garage sale too--I probably could put the money towards a used bedroom set!

    Have a good day.

    Doris
    Hi Doris,
Welcome to the Golden Girls! Nice to meet you. My cats run away when the vacuum cleaner comes out.

    Quote: Good May, All...

Can't believe it's May... and it's so lovely outside! PT, have a good vacation. I'll miss you !!

Lynn, lovely pictures. I'm eager to hear all about it! You look wonderful...

Everyone, have a good weekend! All is marvy here!
    Hi Jess,
Vacation was WONDERFUL! As I scrap my photos, I’ll be able to review everything and get it in some order in my head. Right now, too much to deal with. I have a two-page list of things I need to do & I leave for Ireland genealogy trip in 3 weeks!

Quote: Morning everyone..the sun is out and im loving it..i was on the deck yesterday soaking it up..the snow is almost gone and mud everywhere..i went shopping yesterday at wallmart..its sure fun shopping for groc again..the dh did an ok job but im one of those strange folks who like to do that and now i can..hoping your weekend is great (((hugs))) rosey
    Hi Rosey,
CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss. What’s up with your surgery?

Quote: Hello everyone. I've been run off my feet since Friday morning. Good to be able to say that as I'm healthy and able.
This is the first weekend in weeks that I haven't sabotaged myself with an over abundance of eating all day long. I did have some desserts and two good servings of macaroni and cheese but no night eating and none in between meals. I feel as if I haven't undone last week's good. Anyhoo, take care and a big hello to everyone else. Let's make it a good week and a great month.
    Hi Isabella,
I thought of you a LOT yesterday. All the way across the Atlantic, I kept seeing a little map of St. John’s and Gander. I kept telling my DD & SIL – That’s where my walking buddy lives! They both LOVE New Foundland. What do you mean – you’ve been “run off your feet?”
Are we still doing our walk? I will check that thread as soon as I get off this one.

Quote: Phew! STILL haven't gotten on the road! Good thing we don't have a plane to catch! Just so much to do...I've ended up doing a massive spring cleaning; might as well when the opportunity presents itself, right? Everything IS about done now - DH is just in the process of washing the kitchen floor, and once that's done and the chairs and such put back at the table, we'll be off. Terrible weather - and flooding - in Ohio, Tennessee, and headed south, according to the weather forecasts. Just what we (don"t) need after what we've already had up here! So far, North Carolina seems safe, and at Sis's elevation, there shouldn't be much of a problem, but getting there could be another matter entirely. My son is headed east and was going to go by Santa Fe and the northern edges of Texas....I hope he's not driving into bad storms.
Well, not much more to report here...just lots of cleaning and dinner yesterday at my daughter's with the twinnies, our granddaughter and my other daughter and grandson. Nice break from cleaning.
Will miss you, too, PT, but we'll be connected anyway, of course.
Bye bye miss American......oops....I meant bye bye GGs!!!! Bobbi, Isabella, Freda, Rosey, Karen, Lynn, Georgia, Gayle, and whoever else hasn't posted lately (or I would immediately remember you, despite my aging memory banks!) and Doris!
    Talk to you soon!

    Z
    Hi Zoe,
Hope you have a good NC trip. I’ve spent quite a bit of time there in the last couple of years – since my DF moved there. It’s a GREAT state! Where in NC? My DF lives in Chapel Hill and a “shirt-tail cousin” lives in Asheville.

    Quote: Good morning!
Lynn: Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. I don't think I'll ever get overseas.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Doris
    Hi Doris,
That’s what I always thought. I used to think about my perfect out-of-country trip (to Japan) and knew it was WAY out of my budget. Then I took a workshop on “getting what you want out of life” and realized that I needed to scale down my idea about overseas travel. My first trip was with a college group – quite cheap – to Rome and Athens. It was NOT my perfect trip, but it was affordable and I was able to pay it off over 10 months. That started me. Since then, I have REALLY been bitten by the travel bug. I’m not much of a shopper so I don’t spend a lot of money on a regular basis. However, I LOVE travelling and my DD is GREAT at using our Am Ex points to get our plane tickets.

Quote: Hello everyone, I entered Ginger and Sissy in the "Greenies Show Us Your Pets Healthy Smile" contest. The website is: www.greenies.com and when you get there you can click on the city (Carthage) and you should see photos of Ginger and Sissy. You can vote everyday if you would like to. Just thought that I would share with you.
    Hi Karen,
I will go to website and vote for our GG mascots as soon as I get off 3FC.

    I just voted - 1 for each!

  • Good morning people. It's raining AGAIN! And really raining today. Started around midnight and it poured most of the night and is still coming down in buckets. It's also a cold rain as the temperature is hovering around 6 degrees C (about 43 F). I'll have to get on the bike later on.

I made more homemade hippie granola (well, I guess if I made it, it's homemade ) this morning as it seemed a good morning to have the oven on. Also, this is soup day so that'll go down happily on this cold day. I'll try to get to the sewing machine today as well. I'm making shopping bags for myself but I usually only work on them for a few minutes at a time. They're a black polyester material and it's hard to see the black thread on the black material. I really need a bright sunny day to see it really well but I'll do a few minutes if I can't see that well and maybe a half hour if I can see.

Lynn, so glad to have you back safe, sound, tired but happy. "Run off my feet" is a term for very busy. I had so many things to finish for the weekend both personal stuff and church stuff (I teach a children's class). So, you may say that you will be "run of your feet" the next few days getting through your list. I'm still walking but this rain has really slowed me down over the last few weeks. If you check the thread you'll see I had almost a full week with no walking and most of that was because of rain even if I didn't state it in the thread. Can't wait to hear more about your trip. And in 3 weeks you're off to Ireland!!! Wow, it should be lovely there this time of the year. You should get in more walking while you're there.

Well, I'm gone to rescue the soup. It burned some while I was posting this. I forgot it on the stove and didn't have the water added. (Darling, I am growing old.... ) Have a good day whatever the weather and I'll catch you all later.
  • Good Morning Girls!
Multi-tasking is somethings I do all the time and shouldn't. I hope your soup doesn't have a charred flavor Isabella. Wish me luck on my kolacky cookies I'm making again today for our rummage sale. We have 5 family members doing it together and everyone is bringing tons of food. I'll need blinders on my head! My first batch of kolacys I froze but they tasted just as good frozen so that's not a safe place to store them. I'll try again today.
Lynn, You're off to Ireland in 3 weeks, what a fun life you have! That's one place I'd love to travel to and don't have any Irish in me. I watched a travelog on the cooking channel about the rolling green hills and fantastic food, pubs, etc.
Hi Doris, welcome to the Golden Girls! Do you have a vegetable garden or just pulling weeds in general?
Jess...I like your new picture, everyone looks so happy!
Zoe...Hope you're on the road by now, Happy Trails and all that.
Karen...I enlisted Charlie on that site a couple of years ago, it's fun looking at all the dogs. Sissy and Ginger are adorable, haven't taken the time to vote for them yet but I will after I stop gabbing here.
Rosey...Oh Happy Days, you got out and shopped at WalMart. Good for you and we can't wait to hear more from you on your achievements. Geezzz, I just looked up the word achievements, I didn't think it looked right. My brain just doesn't work as good anymore.
My brain is telling me to get going, I have another ebay package to get off this morning. The mailman picks up all my packages out here in the sticks and I print the postage out on my printer so it's really convenient.
Hi Freda and who else? Have a good one.
  • Good Morning, All...
Lynn, glad you're back, safe and sound. As soon as you're rested up, we'll be waiting for those travel stories!! I so much enjoyed the pictures!

Nothing here. I'm in a blah, blah, blah mood. I guess I should force myself to get moving! All is well..... Safe day, everyone!
  • Morning everyone..another beautiful day here..i was up early..now that we are having more daylight im up with the birds..lynn im so glad you are home safe..Karen i voted too, your dogs are oh so cute.. Jess hope the blahs go away..Bobbie hope the garage sale is a huge success they are a lot of work ..as for my surg..my ins requires 6 month of dr supervized wt management..ive had all the tests except the phyc exam i need to do in anchorage..for now its follow the diet and exercise..when i was shopping in wallmart my dh was helping me transfer to the ridey cart and my pants are loose now so as i slid onto the seat my pants slipped down serious butt showing so i had to sit forward and lift up so he could hike up my pants.. now i know why i couldnt wear thongs no happy medium it was funny tho..on that note have a nice day (((hugs))) rosey
  • By the way - I love the new photos of everyone. So nice to put beautiful faces with beautiful friends.

    Lynn
  • Rosey! That story is so funny!! I know I would have been laughing so hard it would have been hard to let DH pull up my pants!!! I'll bet it feels so good to have your pants that loose!! Way To Go!!

Thanks everyone for the votes and the compliments on Ginger and Sissy! They are so much company and so many laughs for me too when they get to running through the house.

Donna, They are not related at all.. I got Ginger from the Pikes Peak Humane Society out in Colorado Springs back in June 2004. She was found by someone and they took her there. She was only at the shelter 4 hours before I got her. She is 7 years old now.
Sissy was a rescue from a puppy mill down in Las Animas. When I got her she didn't even know what grass was... and was scared of it. Her toe nails were so long that they curled way back under her feet. I couldn't bring her home fast enough.. She will be 6 years old in July. And I have them both so spoiled that they don't even know that they are dogs!!

Well, they came and opened the pool this morning. I hope our weather stays warm enough now that we will be able to use it in a couple weeks. I put my hand in the water and my goodness it is COLD!!!!

Just gave Ginger and Sissy baths so better get back to getting them brushed out. They don't mind the baths but they don't like to be brushed.

    Have a good day!
  • Donna, so sorry that we didn't get a chance to get together while we were out there. Things were so busy getting the trailer packed with the stuff we left out there. And we did take a couple hours and went to the Springs to visit our oldest son who lives down in the Springs. He is handicapped and lives in a group home there through the Martin Luther Homes. So we will be coming back out to visit him for sure and maybe we can get together then. Things were just so busy this time and we were trying to get things done and travel between storms. Take care.
  • Hello all,

Have any of you used a pedometer to count your steps a day? I got one as part of a health/wellness program through my job. I put it on and counted the steps for several steps while I walked and it was close but not exact. I found one my husband had gotten somewhere and did the same thing. One recorded more steps, one recorded less steps. Today am wearing both of them. I am kind of bugged by the difference between the two readings. If I am trying to aim for a certain amount of steps for health and the pedometer is not accurate ~ how am I to do it?

They say to aim for 10,000 steps a day. I thought I would have trouble doing that, but the first day I did 10,9something. But now seeing the different readings I am getting, I don't know if I did as well as I thought I had.

Maybe at the end of the day ~ I take an average between the two and depending on which one I am wearing, either add some or subtract some.

Hope you all are doing well.

    Take care ~ Gayle

    Hi Gayle,

By how much are they off? I wouldn't worry about them being perfect. I know that if you want to measure distance, you must calibrate them. However, they should come close to measuring steps.

Good for you for upping your exercise!

    Lynn
  • Hi Lynn,

They aren't the kind you can calibrate ~ just a simple kind. The one on my left is at 10478, the one on my right is at 6810. The other day, they were close to the same. The one on the right (I noticed just now) had kind of slid toward the center of my waist band ~ maybe that is why it is so far off today.

But I'm wondering ~ even if I had the kind you can calibrate ~ would it be accurate? I had one like that before but can't find it. Don't want to spend the money when I already have one.

    Anyway.......
  • Hi Gayle, My Pedometer is an Omron and I really like it. I find that it is pretty good. I've had some that would show you had walked 15 steps just by putting it on your waistband!! I need to get back in the habit of wearing mine again...
  • Good Morning!
We're packing up rummage sale stuff this morning and making several trips into town to unload it, this will be short.
Glynne...I have several pedometers and all are adjustable, I'm surprised your's isn't. I always take a large safety pin and attach the pin to the inside of my waist band so it doesn't move. That way it stays put and you won't lose it. Try that and see if it helps.
    Have a good one everyone!
