Annie- sounds like you have a nice weekend planned, how hot is it supposed be there?
iaradajnos-yeh, metabolism slows with age. I heard it slows 10% every 10yrs. after age 20. That means I'm down almost 25% !! Actually the "eat to live, not live to eat" saying is very true.
Walked 35min at the Game Preserve, took lunch along and ate by a stream. I could do that everyday, it was so nice. We are going again tomorrow, it's only 20min away from us. Weather was gorgeous, sunny & 76, but very windy. Well no matter how hard I try, i just can't stay under my calorie limit of 1200. I went over by 150, I try so hard. Lost 3.1lbs of water weight from the weekend, still have 6lbs to go!
Congrats SillyCat! How are you losing? I am really struggling with this weight loss thing. I'm sure the struggle is due to my slowing metabolism, sendentary(sp?) schedule and medications. It used to be so easy to shed 5-10 lbs, but at this point it just keeps going up and up. I have tried soooo many different diets, workout schedules ect. I lost about 20 lbs in the beginning of 2010 but that was the result of 2 hours of working out and a 800-900 calorie a day diet. I quickly realized I dont have the stamina to keep up with a diet and exercise routine like that. I WANT MY METABOLISM BACK! If anyone has suggestions, I am wide open!! Thanks.

Reason: misspelled word
I lost a good deal of weight about 13 years ago and it was so much easier then, than it is now - well, I saw much speedier success then, I should clarify. Now I'm averaging less than a half pound/week, but it's progress. SLOW. Better than gaining, I keep thinking. I'm losing SIZE, which is always welcome!
Thought I really splurged last night - but it ended up working perfectly into my ww points plan!! The other night I had the clever idea for mexican burgers and mixed turkey meat with taco seasoning, and added cheddar and salsa to the top. Ehh. Not that great. Had two burger patties leftover so I crumbled them up and added salsa, heated it and added most of a can of campbells nacho fiesta cheese and hot chili beans and a lot of diced onions and put with baked scoops - hubby LOVED it and it actually worked out with all the rest of my day's points. Veggie barren meal but turned a bleh meat into a delish one.
Need to mow tonight before the humidity returns tomorrow. Date night for the two of us on Saturday after hubby's eldest's high school grad. Looking forward to dressing up and looking good (well, what I can).
It is finally Friday, I have been waiting all week lolol. I have to get back on track this weekend. My daughter and I have both been sick and just grabbing something to fill us up. Time to get to the grocery store and stock up on the healthy stuff again.
Nationalparker I totally agree, I am in the menopause stage and it is so hard to get any weight off. Slow but sure, it is nice to feel your clothes becoming lose
I hope everyone has a great weekend. Weight loss is a state of mind as well as a state of body.
Hey gang! So glad it is Friday, I could literally jump for joy! Still trying to figure out a plan for the weekend. Whatever we do will be good. The "have-tos" need to get done before the playing!!
I have had trouble hauling my sorry butt out of bed the last couple of days. Yesterday only had enough time for a one mile DVD, this morning only time for 2 mile. I like to get in at least 3 on most weekdays. I must have needed the extra few minutes in bed, though. I feel pretty good today. No weighing this week...TOM. No use going down that road, especially since I may see myself in a swimsuit before the weekend is out.
FL-It is supposed to be in the mid-to-high 90s here at least for the next week. Seems like we can never have a gradual warm up. Just BAM!, it's summer. Not complaining. Much better than a windy, winter day!!
Love seeing all the new faces here!
Tymetomove-You're right, your previous plan isn't realistic for someone who has a life. You may want to take some time to count calories and see what range really works for you to lose weight. Make sure you get plenty of fiber and reduce fat. Add in some reasonable exercise and watch the scale drop!
More plumbing fixes this weekend, replacing the cast iron pipes to try to 'fix' our draining problems.
Tyme, welcome glad to have you join us.
NP, I lost weight just a few years ago by portion control and exercise. I'm working much harder than I was then and not seeing many results. Sigh. Hubby stopped drinking cokes a few years ago and lost 30lbs, he gradually restated drinking cokes, then quit again. He has been coke-free for over a year but didn't lose any weight.
Welcome Tyme and IAteit - this is a great group of very supportive gals!
Tyme - for me i used to be able to drop 10 pounds in a week.. I too miss my younger metabolism. I found though that when i record everything i eat - including fruits / vegies etc that i was eating more calories than i thought during the day - was an eye opener. I get up and do an hour workout - alternating between Jillian Michaels "boost metabolism - lose the fat" video and the Firm's "hard core fusion" - doing each 3 times a week for a total of 6 good workouts / week - and periodically throughing other workouts into the mix. Along with walking 3 miles on breaks during the day. I also think my stand up desk has helped.
So nothing special for me - just lots of exercise - religiously and almost no food... I think that by the time i'm my mom's age i'll have to work out 24x7 and eat nothing.. ha ha ha - ok maybe a little melodramatic there but geez!!
Low processed (ie white bread etc) carbs for me seems to help too..
Other than that supposed to be a nice weekend here in the northwest so going to attempt to find some time to get out and enjoy it!
(other than that i have LOTS of work.. to do this weekend along with the usual cleaning / other chors)
Today I did 28min of lower body work and 33min of boxing. Halfway though the boxing workout my shoulders started cramping and screaming at me. I had to stop and stretch them out but they still feel a bit upset. Maybe boxing was a bit much after yesterdays upper body workout.
I'm trying to grow my hair out of its pixie cut. Its at the stage where I'm barely able to pull it back in clips and its driving me nuts, but I got a compliment on my 'cute new hairstyle' today which made me feel a lot better about it.
tyme- I couldn't do 900 calories or exercise 2hrs a day. It just isn't something you can keep up with for life. I don't think I'm in menopause yet, but close. Last year i didn't get TOM for 11mo, then got it 4mo. in a row, now it's been 4mo. and no TOM again. I am also seeing a difference with weight loss, but have no other symptoms yet.
sillycat- I hear ya! Talk about deprivation in about 20yrs. I'm not looking forward to it!
Annie- Wow, it will be warm. Only gonna be high 70's here, but sunny. Have a good weekend!
The past 2 days the weather has been gorgeous, very comfortable and breezy, like spring should be. Went to the Game Preserve to walk again, walked 40min, then relaxed in the sun and ate lunch w/ hubby. When we get there it feels like home, that's how much we love the area. Goal is to move up there as soon as we can. Did good with eating clean again, I'm quite motivated now that the scale is moving downward. Started back on plan on Tuesday and as of today I lost a total of 5.7lbs. All water I'm sure, but I'll take it.
This weekend will be busy, Saturday is fruit shopping at two markets, our walk & Kristen's eye Dr. appt. Sunday we are planning to pack food and spend the whole day at the preserve. Yay!
My day started out with a shelf in the bathroom falling scaring me to death and breaking two little glass vases! Neither item was valuable but it was a mess I didn't want to have to clean up. Since this was housecleaning day, it was a good time, if there is a good time to break something. Previously, I put the 40ft extension cord in the garage because I didn't think I'd need it anymore with the new vacuum, which I don't but the cord to my hardwood floor steamer is shorter and there were corners I can't reach. Humph. Add bending back a fingernail {gross!} and a shelf in my freezer coming unhooked and this just wasn't a great day.
The traveling Vietnam Veterans Memorial is here in town. Hubby and I went to see it tonight. So many names. Even at 9pm at night it was pretty crowded, with more people than I expected visiting on a Sat night.
We got the news that Hubby's new job is 'supposed' to start in 2 weeks. They are creating this position so that's why the delay. They haven't set the hours yet but we are hoping for 7-4.
Hello - Happy Sunday I'm heading out on a hike with DH here in about a half hour and just checking in. Going to a diff park to do one hike and then back to our regular one to do a diff 6 mile trail both times loaded up with our packs ... kind of to test where we stand on the hiking with a decent packweight. It's freakin hot, though - muggy and all, so we'll see. Off to pack the lunches for us to eat on trail. I'm not stingy there! ha!
Went to a great Greek restaurant last night and stepped out of my comfort zone in trying new things - very good, all. Nice "date night" after his eldest daughter's graduation, which went surprisingly low key with the "ex" there. Nothing wrong with "ex's" don't get me wrong, but this one lives on drama and creating scenes out of nothing, totally embarrassing the girls and making a spectacle of herself. I thought she'd pull something this time, but thankfully no. The younger one really clings to us when we're together. (and she's a young teen, not a little kid) ... she now knows there doesn't always have to be drama. Pfew - sorry.
Didn't weigh in this weekend - skipped ww and was planning to get there on wednesday. Need to get a base count though so will do so tomorrow.
Welcome to all the new folks - looking forward to seeing you around here and hearing your tips and challenges!
morning was so busy yesterday never checked in should have weighed but I did not so I will today. feel good about the week have decided to wait to try ww till after vacation thats two weeks away so until then I will just pay attention to what im sticking in my mouth.
Yay! Stayed on track this weekend, no desire to fall of the wagon. The weight loss has been wonderful, don't want to ruin a good thing. Today is a lazy day, it's cloudy and damp most of the time, few peeks of sun. Walked for 31min. & am planning on just relaxing.
