ALG ~ I am doing a portion/counting calories plan. I started out around 2100 calories a day; now I aim for between 1500-1800 most days, cycling a bit; and my calorie cap is 2000 for my flex day or maintenance days. I usually eat 3 meals + 2-3 snacks a day.
I try to eat mostly nutrient-rich whole foods (not a fanatic though) with lean meats and lots of veggies & salads, with some dairy & fruit; and whole grains whenever possible, in limited portions each day. I weigh my meat and measure everything else, esp for my servings. I log what I eat every day; and plan my weekly & daily menus ahead as much as I can.
It is still very hot here, too. The poor people across the street from me still do not have power five days after the storm! I'm missing cable (it is also my internet!) but otherwise just fine and not complaining.
I picked some red peppers and fresh mint from the garden last night and cooked some lentils to make a lentil salad. My cucumbers look like they should produce soon as well, so I am hoping for some fresh cucumbers soon!
ALG - I have done mostly what Rosebud has done, though unlike Heather and Rosebud I am not good about tracking. I mean to start soon, though. Just need to get a few other things in my life under control.
degramie - we had some rain, too! it is a nice relief from the sweltering heat, but our ten-day forecast shows nothing below the 90s.
I think I saw some cooler temps for next tuesday ...mid 80s. It will be awesome! We got another shower that cooled things down again and my garden is thankful for each drop.
Wow, this heat is crazy!!! Potentially record breaking. Too hot to cook inside OR to grill outside!! I think today we'll be having some kind of pasta/couscous salad with some quickly cooked veggies.
I am doing much better with my eating. Need to work on the exercise -- probably after the heat dies down.
HEATHER ~ last night, we had 6" mini-subs for dinner. I bought some wg 6" buns and put on reallly lean ham & salami & chz. I had no fat chz on mine with lots of lettuce, onion slices, and tomatoes with mustard. My black forest ham is only 35 calories for 2 slices and the salami is 15 cals per slice. So about 300 cals per sub, depending on how many slices of meat you put on it. Nice and cool for hot weather too.
Tonight, we have a choice of chicken super dogs or turkey sausages with corn on the cob & salad for me. DH likes his on wg buns; and I eat mine plain with a little bbq sauce.
The temps are 78 F in the shade here right now; and we have a little breeze which really helps too. I'm so glad this house stays so cool (only 72 F in here right now) with a couple of ceiling fans on (one in the kitchen & livingroom).
justwant2bhealthy- we are at 104 and it feels like 112. My house is now up to 76degrees with the air going hard. I went out and sprayed weed killer while the kids napped. I was dreanched with sweat in no time.
I love my hair this short but it grows so fast I will have to get it cut every 3 weeks.
I am so tired of the heat, but heard on the news that the pattern is likely to continue through August. We have had a few more thunderstorms - some bad, but nothing like the one last Friday - which have given us some moisture. But everything is still dry and dead, except for the garden I am watering. I read that they canceled fireworks throughout the west because of the risk of more wildfires. It is not that bad here, but I was still a bit concerned when I got home late last night and saw the cloud of smoke hovering over the street thanks to the neighbors' fireworks.
Nothing happened, of course!
I have black bean and quinoa salad for dinner tonight, and some giant zucchini and squash from a neighbor's garden to cook. I might roast them; my oven is new last year and does not heat up the kitchen, so it cold be tolerable.
I am very busy at work this week, and the ongoing high temperatures mean I'll probably cancel the Saturday day-trip we have planned and stay here and work. Ah well. I think that we might have some more moderate tempatures next week.
AMANDA ~ you may have to wait a while to have a ticker (20 days & 20 posts); then you just click on someone's ticker and that will take you to ticker.com, I think. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong; it's been a while since I played with that. I just made my own signature.
As for exercise: walking is the cheapest & easiest for most people if you have no injuries or challenges. I like to do toning exercises upon waking, walking, gardening, dancing, arm & chair aerobics, and my hand-weights EOD (every other day). You may want to bike or row if you have the inclination. What do you like to do? I would start there ...
Good morning our American cousins. I know we don't tend to have such extremes of climate in the UK but we have yet to have any sign of Summer here in South Wales!
It has rained and rained and rained. Lots of places have flooded but as we live up at the top of a big hill we are OK.
My exercise of choice is walking and I have gotten wet pretty much daily for what feels like months! My golden Retriever has such thick fur that she doesn't dry out between walks and does NOT smell good!
I hope you manage to keep cool, being so overweight I don't cope well with heat. I think I should have been a polar bear!!
Well I think I qualify for this thread about 3 times because I've been over and under 300 pounds 3 times.
Right now I'm in the mid 300's but can't update my signature to reflect that.
I haven't set an overall goal weight yet but I have some mini goals that I would like to accomplish first such as 325, 299 275 etc... and per haps getting down to certain pant sizes.
MOUNTAIN WALKER ~ my family on my Dad's mother's side are from Wales; we think they were of Italian/Hungarian descent. Sounds like our Vancouver in Wales right now. It's been hot here but it should cool down this week, we hope.
Back, BIGMIKE ~ glad you came back despite your setbacks. We have a REGAINERS RELOSING thread in the support groups forum for people who are repeat offenders, so2speak (yo-yoers like me) ...
Good luck to you both; hope we can give you some support along the way!
I keep seeing posts mentioning onederland - I have absolutely no idea what it means and searching and reading through the threads where it is being discussed is still not giving me a clue!
Oooo, mountain walker, I'm the other side of the country to you (Lincolnshire) and my pooch has also spent much of the (so called ) summer smelling of wet doggy! You've had it bad in Wales, haven't you? I can't remember a summer as wet as this one - yet we still have a hosepipe ban here! lol!
