  • My wonderful neighbor just brought over fresh blackberries. I have a cobbler in the oven. I think I will take it to my moms and leave there. My aunt died last night so food is always welcome. I know I will have many challenges in the next few days.
  • THANKS, HEATHER ~ now I have an answer to both questions. Indeed, I learn something new here quite often. Just the other day, BILLBLUEYES was explaining a new acronym to me/us all (step-wife).

KERRI ~ I have the same issue at certain times of day; 11 AM and 5 PM, so I have a small snack & coffee/tea in the am; and we have moved our dinner up a bit earlier for the latter. I read somewhere on the net that these two times and the evening are the hardest for many people. There seems to be a lot of people from Texas and the lower states here; I am finding the high 80's and low-mid 90's hard here (were not used to that), so I don't envy you those temps in the 100's at all.

LIZ ~ eeks, I would have been concerned about the skitters & Malaria down there too. I went to Mexico in my mid-teens, and never saw one mosquito. I always thought the extreme heat killed most of them (100-110 F most days while we were there). I think becuz I was young and slimmer then that the temps didn't bother me as much, but I did get a nice tan and some blisters on my shoulders though -- ouch!

dgramie ~ nice neighbour bringing the blackberries over. I bought some blueberries for a good price today. Sorry to hear about your Aunt passing; will be thinking (and praying) of you over the next few days ...

My SIL was saying today that the peony bushes smell like roses; and you know, she's right -- they do. I had told DH the same thing; and as soon as you step out of the house, you can smell them everywhere. I am really happy the last owner planted them here; what a blessing for us.

It was cooler here today (thank goodness), so we went up town to pick up a few things. I picked up a couple more 2-year blueberry bushes on clearance sale; we will be transplanted them next week. I picked up a bunch of books (romance & mystery/cop novels) at a second-hand place we have here. They were on sale today too; and I also picked DH up some movies and comedy shows (Jackie Gleason/Honeymooners; The Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, etc).

The has come out again so maybe we won't get those thunderstorms until during the night after all. Thats OK, we'll be sleeping then. I was more hungry last evening but still managed to stay under my limit; and today, has gone really well. I just had a banana and a homemade mocha; that will tide me over for awhile too.

Have a great OP Thursday everyone ...
  • I had a great day yesterday considering the news on my aunt.I made the cobbler and will take it to mom.
I got a short haircut on tuesday and love it, just wash, gel and go. No more fighting my natural waves with a straight iron.
Looking forward to seeing family this weekend but hate that I am so heavy. Oh well too late to change it before the weekend. I sure wish there was a magic pill.
I am planning a healthy day of eating today which will include a few cherry tomatoes from my garden. YUMMY!!
  • It has been really hot here, but looks like that's breaking, thankfully. No rain yet. At least there aren't as many bugs. I think I've only seen a couple of skeeters! So I'm watering a lot!!

One of my favorite breakfasts is frozen blueberries, plain non-fat Greek yogurt, and a sprinkle of thin-sliced almonds and a squeeze of honey! My dogs each get a few blueberries and a little yogurt of their own. They love it!!
  • dgramie - very sorry about your aunt, but I'm glad that you were able to have a good day in spite of such news. I hope your mom's doing okay and good days continue to counter-balance the bad news.

I also got my hair cut yesterday! I get more or less the same cut, but have decided that I'll treat myself to a good consultation and maybe professional coloring when I reach as-yet-unspecified weight loss goal. I am sort of envious of natural waves, though I suppose that's the way it ALWAYS is with women and hair.

Rosebud - it was not super-hot when we were in the Amazon on that trip - in the 70s and 80s - but it was so humid that any movement had you drenched with sweat. we stayed in a really lovely eco-friendly resort-place right in the jungle. No air conditioning and limited electricity, but luxurious in its way. I have a picture of view from our cabana that I will post some time.

It was a difficult trip to pack for, though because we were also high in the Andes, where the temperature varied from just above freezing at night to lovely during the day, and back again. The sun is really strong at that altitude (Cusco, Peru is at 12,000 feet, and Puno is at 12,500 feet), so even though it was cold at night (and we were dreading Puno because the forecast was for really cold temperatures), it was nicely warm when out hiking in the sun.

Heather - I am watering alot here, too. We have had rain just once or twice in the past three weeks. I heard a forecast that we will remain dry in July and August as well. Sometimes I get neglectful with watering in those months but hopefully not this year.

I had a good day yesterday. We will see about today: I am going out to dinner for my Dad's birthday. It's a nice restaurant, but it is a seafood restaurant and I eat neither seafood nor meat, generally. So finding something satisfying that isn't deep fried (I generally end up eating appetizers for dinner at places like that?) will be a challenge.

I am checking the website and will check their nutrition info before I go, though. I probably wouldn't have thought of that without this thread and this post!
  • I just wanted to pop in and say....

38 more lbs and I'm OUTTA here.

Lost my first 10lbs. Been long couple weeks but I did it.. Cant wait to get on with it and lose the next and next and so on.
  • imnot_ woohooo!!! keep going!!!

syne- my aunt was actually my dads sister.Dad is in a resthome and unable to attend. Its sad, mom said its like losing her own sister because they have been sil for 50yr.

Eating was good yesterday, enjoyed the cherry tomatoes out of my garden on a nice salad. I had to break down and water because we didnt get the promised rainfall.

I will have another crazy weekend and Im so ready for a calm weekend at home.I will get my granddaughters on sunday so that my son and his wife can take our oldest grandson to Indy to a specialist to see whats going on with the little guy.
  • The rain broke up before it got to us. We got just enough to wet the leaves, but that's it! Almost worse than nothing!!
  • We were blessed with some during the night; that's two days in a row; and the flowers are sure loving it and my green beans too. We have had lovely temps the last two days and that is supposed to stay ... yeah!

So DH and I spent the day, trimming the grass edges (I did most of that) plus we finished pruning the Honeysuckle Tree and the Pine Tree right next to it. Now you can see a straight path all the way down the south side of the house where the Peony plants, the Lilac Tree, and Rhubarb Patch are.

It looks nice from the street and side angles -- much neater. It took us a bit longer than I thought, but once we got going, my adrenaline kicked in and I hated to stop until we were finished. Think I am going to be a tad bit sore tomorrow, so guess who will be taking Saturday off for a rest day -- moi! DH finished off the grass on that side too, but he gets to finish the trimming in the backyard side tomorrow (not too much left to do anyways).

Well, I 'm proud of myself for doing what I can; beside the hand trimming, I even sawed some branches off myself. That's lots of energy burned off after almost 2 hours out there, but it is very worth it in more ways than one; and we really enjoyed this beautiful weather.

Imnotperfect ~ congrats on losing those 10 lbs forever; that's quite a nice big chunk there. Isn't that wonderful to see such good numbers; and so encouraging too.

DeGramie ~ sending up ^prayers^ for your family at this time; plus also for your grandson that the doctors will find what is wrong and the best treatments for him too ...

Hope you all have a wonderful OP weekend coming up ...
  • My grandson was born with a vasicular malformation on his leg and bottom and lower back. He also has a sacral dimple. He didnt meet his physical milestones like he should have. He was in therapy and did great. Now he is not able to run and climb like a normal 2yr old. He runs his way but its not the right way. Now they are thinking maybe one leg is shorter plus he has extremely weak core muscles. This is going to be a long process and we are still in the early stages of it. The little guy never lets anything slow him down and he is such a joy! His smile just lights up a room!!

Dad was admitted to the hospital yesterday with pneumonia. They asked about putting him on a vent. Mom said NO!! Just talked with mom and he seems to be doing better this morning. He always seems to respond well to antibotics.
  • DeGramie ~ thanks for sharing about your DGS -- I hope things work out well for him. Glad to hear your DAD is feeling better already; will send up more ^prayers^ for him and your DGS & his doctors too!

It was a bit here today; but not too bad indoors. I took it easy and just did laundry & daily stuff (wanted to rest my back). I made a one-pot dinner of chicken pieces & riblets in homemade bbq sauce with lots of veggies; it was yummy. I was able to rest and read while it cooked. During that time, we had a mini-thunderstorm that cooled things right down for us. Nice day today all round ...

Have a wonderful OP weekend ladies ...
  • Hello everyone! I used to be a member here on 3FC and had lost 50 lbs only to have regained it soon after. I'm back at (nearly) my highest weight, and am trying a low-carb lifestyle change with moderate exercise. Right now, just walking hurts my body so I'll take it slow. I wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself. So thanks for being there--I remember how much I enjoyed this website and all the wonderful women and men here!
  • bad eating day already!! trying to regain composer and not use it as an excuse to blow the rest of the day.
  • ASHARKSREVENGE ~ HELLO BACK: that's an interesting moniker too; there must be a story behind that. Care to share? Yes, I hear you on the pain issues; I can identify with that. I walk a like a "snail" myself, but I figure if I do a bit at a time, my body will get stronger. Focus on the eating for now and just go for some movement each day -- doesn't really matter what it is: could be walking, dancing, light housechores, arm or chair aerobics, toning exercises (sitting or on your bed), and hand-weights.

I started out doing things in short intervals and increments: 5-10 minutes at a time and 10 reps, etc. I can do more now than back then. I have added my gardening, but I always take rest breaks as I go along and that helps a lot. I don't get as sore afterwards as I did before, so that is progress for sure.

DeGramie ~ that's right, just make a correction at the next snack or meal and very often you can salvage the day and week. This is one of my most favorite strategies; and it is used a lot, trust me.

We awoke to some more this AM, but it is cooler with some right now. DH is out riding his bike. I am going to bake him some more banana-oatmeal muffins this afternoon, and we are having leftovers from last night for dinner today. My rhubarb is in again, so I think I will cook up some today for dessert, maybe with apples & cinnamon; sounds good.

Have a nice day everyone ...
  • Had a fun weekend with friends. One day off plan, but one day on!
