151.8 today, just barely. My least favorite kind of weight bouncing is when it's going down, down, down and then shoots back up, then slowly starts to go down again and stalls sometimes, like it's actual fat that's been gained (even though it can't be with the calorie deficit). Maybe I'll start weekly meetings with my scale to discuss its performance.
kfunk: Here hoping we both get back down and go to new lows soon!
151.4 today. Come on, scale, keep going down! I'd like to at least get to 150.x before it starts bouncing around again.
I'm going to be trying platelet (and red blood cells when appropriate) donation by apheresis machine soon. I know how the process works, but I've never done it myself before. I'm excited to start doing it because people need platelets very badly, and there are very few donors. It takes longer than whole blood donation, but my community is having a severe low right now, so it's worth it to me to find more time. That's what I'd want someone else to do for me.
Platelets are a major part of blood clotting, and when someone doesn't have enough, they have bleeding problems that can put their health and lives in danger. Platelets are used for patients undergoing cancer treatment, to help people with blood clotting disorders, and people who have undergone surgery. The first group especially needs platelets in my area.
If anyone is interested, I'd encourage you to talk to your local blood donation facility. Apparently they recently lost about a third of their national platelet donors because of new regulations, so they're trying to recruit new ones.
Well, that was my update and PSA for the day. Hope everyone's weekend and Mother's Day were great!

I hope that it keeps moving down for you Maggie!!!
It is really kind of you to be donating your platelets to people in need. I would love to donate blood, plasma, platelets, etc. but I am not allowed because I had a blood cancer in the past. Hopefully more people like you who are able to will step forward to help out!
Same weight today. I really don't like these loooong stalls of mine. Historically, this one could go until the end of the month no problem. Blech.
Sometimes I get an 'itch' to run. I used to run when I was younger and LOVED it (once I got past hating it). But with the development of my joint issues it's not recommended for me, especially at my current weight (I'd need to lose another 30 lbs to even start to think about it, my doctor said). I just can't get as vigorous a workout as I could when I ran, not with my current access to exercise equipment (which is none). Maybe I'll start saving for a used elliptical machine or something...
kfunk: I hope things are good with your health now. I can't imagine having any kind of cancer (though I likely will because my family history is...not good). But while I'm lucky with my health, however long that lasts (everyone's health changes at some point), I'm trying to do what I can.
Those weekends where things are busy and there's a ton of food can be so challenging! I'm always astonished at just how quickly the body can gain weight (even if most of it is water weight). But you know how to come back down, and since the weight is probably mostly water, hopefully it'll be relatively speedy!
197.4 lbs today. The scale hasn't moved much. I had food late last night so of course my numbers are not going to reflect the progress over the past week.

Maggie- I admire your persistence throughout your stalls, it’s not easy to stay patient!! When I was looking for a used treadmill there were tons of ellipticals on Craigslist, hopefully you can find one that suits you! Thank you, I was 24 when I got it, so it’s been a good 9 years without a relapse (knocks on wood). My family history isn’t great either, so that makes me worry about my future. I really worry about my husband though because heart disease runs rampant on his dad’s side. It’s so smart to be proactive beforehand to give yourself the best odds possible!
Kay- I’m sorry to hear that you are still not feeling well You are still kicking butt and no doubt are becoming fitter; I am excited to hear about your check up!
Letsgetaway- I have the same thing happen when I eat later than normal. How often are you weighing yourself?
167.8 - I have a diet bet that ends on Thursday and need to get back down to 161.7 to win it… that is not going to happen
Kay: Those weeks where things should be moving and don't (or worse, when there's a gain) are really not fun. They're just so frustrating! But you're right that if you're at a deficit it's not going to be fat. I hope your body cooperates and you're out of the obese category by your appointment date!
letsgetaway: Seems like a lot of us are having slow scale drops. Hopefully things kick into gear for all of us soon.
kfunk: I also have heart disease that runs pretty strong on one side of my family history. Another reason I want to reach and stay at a healthy weight. I'm glad to hear that it's been years without a relapse for you. Does your husband take steps to minimize his risk of heart disease? Sorry about your diet bet. Is it like one of those online ones or one with someone you know?

Maggie- I am glad we both are taking the steps necessary to reduce our risks! My husband is working on losing some extra weight right now. He didn't have as much as I did to lose, but its hard losing any amount! I think he has lost about 15 lbs. and has about 20 to go. He has a very stressful job and does not eat healthy, nor does he get enough sleep. Aside from his full time job he is a student and also works a side job on the weekends, I worry about his health very much. He does not smoke, and drinks very little so has those things going for him. This is an online bet and it was $30 for the enrollment to lose 4% in 4 weeks. This will be the first one that I have lost, but I have another one ending in 2 weeks.
I've got a ten day trip coming up. I'll have very limited control over what and when I eat, so I'll have to lean more heavily on the portion control part of my diet than the whole foods part of it. I don't strictly eat only whole foods, but I tend toward them because they fill me up better. I'll also have to watch for boredom snacking because a lot of it is driving...
kfunk: While we can't change our genetics, we can influence some of the environment that influences them. It sounds like your husband is taking all the steps he can right now for his health, and that's important. It seems like you two are partners who can support one another in that, and that's great!
I've thought about doing those online bets. I'd either love them because deadlines can motivate me sometimes, or I'd always fail because I don't have as much control over my weight as I do, say, a work project.
