I have been doing the Belly Fat Cure since January 1st. My teenage son started on Monday. We LOVE IT!!! We are not missing a thing! The program is awesome. It is not expensive or rather, you can make it as expensive as you want just like WWs or South Beach. I only bought Zevia soda, Truvia Sweetener and Ezekiel bread ...other than that, just whatever is in my pantry.

I am down 7 pounds and my son is down almost 4 pounds. We had pulled pork, french fries and coleslaw for dinner last night. Tonight he had the same thing and I had fish, mashed potatoes and spinach. We do GILAD every night for 20 to 30 minutes and we have no sugar cravings and if we do, we just grab some unsweetened chocolate almond milk, add a packet of Truvia and we are good! *lol*

We both have so much energy..it is not even funny!! I LOVE IT!!

I would love to have a forum on this diet. I e-mailed this website to ask how you go about starting a forum and this is what they said :

No, I'm sorry but we are not planning a forum for that particular plan. We used to have a Jorge Cruise forum but it fizzled out and was closed. To establish a forum, the plan must have a large following and stand the test of time, through dedicated threads somewhere on the forum.

I know in the past he had a book on the 3 hour diet. This one is supposed to be easier to follow. First magazine has a great article on it. You basically count carbs and sugar. No more than 15 grams of sugar and 6 servings of carbs. You can go up to 120 grams of carbs by my calculations.

I am starting this one too. Mother and Son please keep me posted on how you are doing and I will do the same. I have been on Metabolic Research Center but I am going to adjust it to do the belly fat cure.

Anyone want to start a new thread with this diet? I am very excited by all I have read. The book is sold out in my city so I ordered it from amazon.com and should be getting it today.

This is about what I have been doing as a low carb diet. I think it's basically "Atkins" plus adding any kind of no-sugar substitute for other things you might want to eat. As far as the results. I started doing something like this in mid December. I don't really go for stepping on the scale a lot. I have visually seen changes in my fatty areas. I have to be fair though, I started working somewhere where I am bending and lifting a lot, so I am getting more exersise too.

I do best with a low carb lifestyle. I am jumping on board the belly fat cure because I think I have been eating too much (hidden) sugar and it is undermining my efforts to keep the fat from accumulating around my middle. Being almost 54 has changed the game for me. Used to be easier to keep it off even 10 years ago. Even regular exercise doesn't get rid of the fat stomach like low carb eating does. I agree that its easy enough. I got the new book and really like the recipes. You don't need exactly what he recommends, just read labels and look at sugar and carbs. You want the lowest sugar possible and higher fiber, too. I was out of control over the holidays and paid for it in weight gain. I'm back to my low carb lifestyle.

I am so glad to find some people doing this diet! I just got the book today but I have been doing the diet for 3 days based on info I got from First magazine. I am not sure of my weight loss from this diet as I started the Metabolic Research Center diet 12/27 - 1/7 and then switched to the Belly Fat Cure on 1/8. Between the two I have lost 9.5 pounds! The Belly Fat Cure is much easier and you have more choices.
I just turned 56 and agree the older you are the harder it is too lose. I know you only have to count carbs and sugar grams. I am also tracking calories as that is the way I have always lost in the past. Love that I can still have my favorite foods.

I just started this and lost 6 lbs in 1 week. I was floored to read what contained sugars and how much. Crazy stats. This eating plan is very easy to follow, I love that wine is OK and chocolate and recipes are delicious and fast. The book is well designed too. I like Jorge Cruise's books and his philosophy. I need to lose about 40 lbs and I think with exercise in the mix and this change in eating habits, it will happen. I also feel less tired .:carrot:

I was online doing a search on Jorge Cruise's Belly Fat Cure and came upon your post. I joined so that I could reply. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my book, which I ordered from Amazon. I wanted to let you know that I would love to be involved in a thread about this plan. I just joined 3 Fat Chicks today, so I am totally new to this type of communication. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that I'm interested. I expect my book to arrive today.

You don't need the book to do this diet. I had been looking for it and while trying to find the book found all the info needed to do this diet. Spoke with someone else who had previously purchased the book and she confirmed that my finding were dead on with what is needed to do the diet. Guess I saved myself some money lol.

I started this on Monday and so far I love it, I feel great I have so much more energy, a little insomnia but that could be due to something entirely different. I just feel so much different and that is just in a couple of days.

I am so happy to hear from you two! The plan has been publicized so much that I am surprised I haven't found more people posting about it. The book is 1/2 recipes and products that he recommends. The only thing I read in the book that I didn't see in any of the magazine articles is that he also wants you to have 25-30 grams of fiber, mostly from whole grains. So, you keep track of carbs, sugar and fiber. I am also keeping track of calories as old habits die hard. Keeping a food diary is really helping me.

I have been doing the diet for 6 days based on info I got from First magazine. I am not sure of my weight loss from this diet as I started the Metabolic Research Center (MRC) diet 12/27 - 1/7 and then switched to the Belly Fat Cure on 1/8. Between the two I have lost 9.5 pounds as of 1/11! I am only weighing in twice a week so I will be weighing in again tomorrow. The Belly Fat Cure is much easier than MRC and you have more choices.

What I like about the food is that it is all my favorites foods with a healthy twist. Pizza, hamburgers, cheese, tacos, sandwiches. The twist is that you are eating whole grain high fiber bread and tortillas. One of the breads he suggests is Orowheat 100% whole wheat light bread. It is 40 calories a slice, 9 carbs, 1.5 sugars. smallest piece of bread I ever did see, and has 7 grams of fiber in 2 slices. I am having a bread product at every meal. Smart wheat tortillas have only 50 calories, 10 carbs, 0 sugar and 7 fiber grams. The tortillas are a little like cardboard but when you load them up with cheese they make a satisfying meal.

Let's keep in touch!

Hi eeryone! i am starting today and I am so glad to find some support. I tried this plan without the book and was eating too much junk-chips/cheetos etc. I know you can have them as treats but I was eating them and sf cookies everyday. I have about 20 lbs. I would like to lose and I also exercise 3-4 times a week. I will be 45 and the last year has really been hard to lose the weight. I copied the tracker from the book and stapled them together to track easily. Well good luck everyone-maybe we can post some of our favvorite meals or finds!

See the thing I think is going to slow me down is the fact that I am a very picky eater. I don't each very much of anything so when I do find a food that is "free" according to this diet I kinda stick with it. I have been taking Metamucil to help get the same reaction that Jorge is wanting everyone to get by upping their fiber intake.

In his book he suggests his Belly Fat Cure Drink for adding an instant 10 grams of fiber at one time to help boost the flushing of body fat from your body.

Here is the recipe:

1 20-oz bottle of pureVia-sweetened Sobe Lifewater - OR Regular Water
2 1/2 T of psylllium husks
3 probiatic capsules

Mix the psyllium husks with the water. Take the probiotics with the shake and drink the remainer immediately

I started this on Monday and feel a lot more energy. I used to be a sprite fanatic and completely cut that out and am now only drinking water, anywhere between 5-7 bottles of 16.9oz bottles of water a day, that is a major accomplishment for me lol. I have been logging everything that I eat unless it is a free food then I don't log that I keep a side note of that. At my doctors office I weighed in at 168lbs and I just got on the scale this morning and it says 157 but I don't know how much of that is actual weight loss since when I got weighed at the doctors office I had my shoes and coat still on. I will remove those next time I get weighed so I can get an accurate weight this time. I hope I lost a little bit so that it keeps giving me motivation. I really need to get this weight off, I need to have a lumbar fusion and am too scared to go under the knife with extra fat packed on so ideally I would like to be 125lbs before I will schedule the surgery.

You can get psyllium husks in most drug stores these days; mine has them in the same place you can get Metamucil and other fiber products.

BTW, I found Jorge's The 3-hour Diet is quiet simple to follow; and my plan follows a similar pattern but at my own timing as I don't eat BF until 9 am. It has the same basics principles of eating but is just more organized (but I haven't read the new book yet). I like the visionary aspects of the food on the plate too; very helpful.

I think you could benefit from reading about both plans; I found my info right on the net too ...

There were two thread going on this and I don't know how they got combined but I am very glad they did. Looks like the whole thread to me.

swansonvitamins.com has psylllium husks. They have great prices. It comes capsules, powder, and whole. I ordered the whole ones, haven't got them yet.

cl726or, congrats on getting all the water down! I am still working on that. Sorry you have to go through surgery on your spine. Looks like that got you motivated to lose which is such a good thing.

I am currently trying the belly fat cure. I tried the 3 hr. diet before and lost weight initially, but plateaued quickly because my portions size began to increase. This new diet is so much easier to do. The weight is coming off again and I don't feel hungry. I was supprised to find out how much sugar I was eating every day. One yogurt was over 30 grams of sugar. I was a little confused with his menus. There are 4 servings but is the sugar/carb amount for each serving or the whole meal. thanks

I'd love to join this thread. I did BFC for three days early last month and lost 3 pounds during that time. I've been waiting to get my finances together enough to really get most of the food I needed to begin again. Monday, I will start with my 8 year old son. He has about 45 pounds to lose. I have 100+.

Has anyone been able to find Zevia sodas at a really good price?

I started last week. lost 3lbs. Never hungry. Just really need to be careful about sugar intake and remember to actually eat; 3 meals, 2 snacks. I find that an app on my IPhone called Lose It! helps to keep track the the carb and sugar grams. Also, alot of the speciality foods are available or easily substituted.

Hi Everyone, I started this on Thursday and the sugar thing hasn't been that bad for me. I just miss my cocktails but found that Belvedere Vodka is sugar free so that helps when we went out this weekend.

Also I love that it's so simple. I've got the carb servings memorized already and can't wait to weigh in on Thursday to see the results. I'll be happier with inches lost than weight at this point. I just want to have a waist again :)

Hi Everyone! I am Motherandson and I could not remember which email account I used and I think I closed it out; so I am SistaDiva 2001 now.\

Anway, I started BFC on January 1. It is now January 20th, I am down 16.5 pounds. My teenage son is halfway doing it and he is down 10 pounds which is still very good considering he has been drinking soda..Only 1 a day which is a HUGE benefit considering before BFC, he was drinking a Liter a day...His money from working and that is one of the things he chose to spend it on.

Anyway, I LIVE the BFC lifestyle. I don't give it a second thought in terms of how I eat. This weekend we were part of a celebration and there was coconut cake, my absolute favorite. I budgeted for two bites of a slice of cake to max my 15 grams of sugar. I took one bite and it tasted horrible! It was cloyingly sweet and just not my thing. I prefer water to anything now. I have Zevia soda, but I only drink those every other or two days. I really think the Stevia has killed my appetite for sweets. When I was using Splenda, I craved sweets all the time..Splenda sweets, but sweets none the less.

I love Stevia.

You really don't have to buy all of the things that he lists in the book. It is just not necessarry. Those sugar free cookies, chocolates and all sorts of things are things I would not buy regular for the most part. Your taste will change the longer you stick with the program. I don't feel like I am missing out on anything..I have energy to work out and my skin, which has always been nice is RADIANT. I am working out a minimum of 15 minutes a day, but usually more like 30 minutes a day with GILAD, Melt it Off with Mitch, Ellen Barrett or Shapely Girl.

Any diet that allows me to eat potatoes everyday is one I can stick with!!

Cheers!

I bought the book tonight as an early birthday present to me. :D I do have a question- there are some breakfasts that look EXTREMELY filling- the pancakes with the eggs and bacon on the side as well as the breakfast sandwich with the two sausages, two eggs and cheese. Are these big meals for real? I know they would fill me up until dinner time LOL. I sure wouldn't need much for lunch that's for sure!

I am starting tomorrow. I bought a lot of the stuff from what I read on his website so I have plenty of foods to use for the week. I can't get over all the great food choices there are on this diet. Hard to believe it's low in sugar and carbs!

Hi all! I've come out of lurking to post my thoughts on the Belly Fat Cure. I've lost about 4 pounds since I started this plan on Thursday (2 days ago). I'd been doing low-carb since the first week of December and had lost about 14 pounds in total, but had stalled out for the last 3 weeks. I kept gaining and losing the same 3 - 4 pounds, even though I ate only 20g of carbs (max) daily.

Then I read on another message board how someone had lost 30 pounds in 2 months with the BFC, so I decided to buy the book at Costco and give it a shot...and I'm glad I did! If this keeps up, I can see myself sticking with this plan for life...which I couldn't do on Atkins/20g carbs. It's still hard to fathom that I can eat bread and potatoes and still lose, but I can't complain!

You should wait for the book. You DO count SUGAR and CARBS. You can have no more than 15 GRAMS of Sugar a DAy or 120 GRAMS of CARBS (6 servings roughly).

I have been on the diet since January 1 and today is January 23rd and I am down 21 pounds. I eat potatoes everyday at one of my meals. Any diet than can let me have potatoes is the diet for me! What I have found by eating this way that there is SUGAR and HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP in SOOOOO many products. NO wonder people are gaining weight. I was never a "SWEETS" person. But, SUGAR was HIDDEN in so many foods that I now "GET
why I wasn't losing weight and having weight issues. I love hot sauce and at the store, I was SHOCKED at how so many Hot Sauces have sugar.

My weighloss have been great, but I do exercise between 10 and 45 minutes a day. ALL LOW IMPACT and CORE BUILDING. I average about 30 minutes a day. I LOVE GILAD! I LOVE MELT IT OFF with MITCH. I LOVE SHAPLEY GIRL walking series which TRUMPS Leslie Sansone. It is more fun and the leader is such a cool New Jersey Housewife type...LOVE HER!! I don't believe in HIGH IMPACT exercise. I believe in consistency, low impact and strength building. Walking is the best exercise you can do. Good luck!

Hi there - I just picked up the book the other day and my hubby and I are going to start this next month - I read on another post that you don't count sugar or carb grams if they are under 5 - is this correct?? I thought you counted all sugars??

You have to count every gram of sugar- there is no "free sugars" in this diet. You cannot go over the 15 grams of sugar per day and the 120 carbs per day.

I add up all of my carbs from the meals. I know they say that under 5 grams is free but I don't do it that way. I add up the total amount of carbs I eat for the entire meal, then figure out if I've had the equivalent to one, two, or three carb servings in that meal. You don't have to do it this way but I do because I have a lot of weight to lose and want to watch every carb for the time being and don't want to go over a total of (for me- this is a personal goal) 40-80 carbs per day.

Jorge lets you have up to 120 grams a day but for now I'm going to stay at a lower level (40-80 carbs per day) until some of this weight comes off. That's still a lot of carbs and I don't feel deprived one bit!

Like SistaDiva2001 I too am exercising because I want to get in good shape for the spring so I can walk/jog on the awesome track at my kids high school when the good weather starts. I have a recumbent bike (love that bike with the seat that is wide and has back support!) so I've been using it on the lowest level while watching my Bruins games for two periods. One of these days I will make it to all three periods but they had afternoon games recently and I had to start dinner during the third period or my family would revolt.

I am also using my stretchy bands for my arms as well as my hand weights. I have them on a table next to my bike along with my water and pick them up several times during the game and do some light exercises. My arms were killing me yesterday- I didn't realize I had worked them out so much, probably because I was occupied cursing the Bruins for losing and didn't notice I was pumping my arms away. :carrot: I still worked them out yesterday while watching them game and riding the bike at the same time. Funny but my arms don't hurt me today. :?:

I will start up Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds CD's very soon as well. I want to do at least 30 minutes to an hour of exercise a day for good health. I'll be doing several different things over this winter just to keep it from getting boring but for now it's Leslie, bike, and stretchy bands/hand weights.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good to see another Cruiser on board! Have a great day!

I am so like you. I count my carbs and I don't do the "free carbs" thing at all. I probably average about 80 or so carbs a day. Not by design, after I learned what I serving "is", I just eat until I am comfortable. In other words, if 80 carbs works for me and satiety, then that is what I eat. ON the weekends, I naturally go up to the 120 mark because I am working out more and it is good for energy.

I think working out is great for reasons other than losing weight. If anyone is looking for a good at home walking video and Leslie Sansone just moves to "slow" for you or is uninteresting, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the DEBRA MAZDA Shapely Girl series. Her walking is so much fun the music is kind of disco-ish and she is such the New Jersey Housewife...LOVE HER!!! Her style of walking kind of reminds me of the early aerobic tapes..Kind of retro cool! Don't let the "size" of the girls on the box fool you! This is a much more involved workout than Leslie.

Also, someone was kind enough to "Congratulate me" on my weightloss. Thanks! It is an adventure!!

HI everybody. So I completely feel off the wagon and let me tell you those inches come flying back. I measured this morning and 2inches in my waist and 2 in my hips and 2 in my chest came back. No slacking off for me. I didn't think it was that big a deal to cheat for a couple days. Now I see I am sadly mistaken.

All it took was for one cocktail at the bar to spiral me out of control, the sugar cravings came back with a vengence.

Yesterday I did well and today I plan on doing even better. I love the idea some of you are using and counting actual carbs instead of servings. I think that is much easier and will be more beneficial since I have so much to lose.

Also I was thinking would anyone be interested in submitting the S/C ratio for foods we all use often that way it would be a quick reference chart.
I think I am going to start an Excel spreadsheet and add my frequently eaten foods to it so it will be a little easier until I have it all committed to memory. Does that even make sense?

Have a great day ladies!!

Do you think it was the Alcohol and not the sugar so much? One weekend, I did drink orange juice because I was craving it and it didn't "spiral" for me. In fact, I found it too sweet. I love mixed drinks, and I know most of them use a "simple syrup" + juice. I am PMSing right now and yesterday I wanted something "sweet" so bad, so, considering I don't eat any more than 5 grams of sugar a day, I added a TBLSP of regular Vanilla ice cream to my unsweetened chocolate almond milk and half a Truvia. It was good and it knocked the sweet craving right out. I called 2 Whole Foods in my area to find out IF they could order the CLEMMY'S ICE CREAM. Both said they would get back to me tomorrow after they review the products. I can order it, but I refuse to pay $35 for shipping. If Whole Foods gets it or Trader Joes, that would be fahbulous!!

The Bacardi Limon has sugar in it so I think it was that. But I am back on track. Yesterday was great sugar and carb wise.
I bought some sugar free Murray's mint fudge cookies and put them in the freezer, they taste just like thin mints. I also got some SF Jello pudding and jello so that should hold any sweet cravings I have at bay.

I thought I would post a quick update. I have been on BFC for two days. I am finding this diet really easy. So easy that I wonder if I am doing something wrong. lol I have decided not to weigh myself until Friday so I will post results then. I have been amazed how much sugar is in foods that I wouldn't have even thought of as having sugar. But I am not having any problems avoiding it. The only difficulty I am having is caffeine deprivation. Until yesterday, I drank about a 2 liter of diet mountain dew everyday. And I bought the Truvia (expensive!) to have in my coffee but there are 3gs of carbs in every little packet and I decided I didn't want to drink 9-12 carbs per cup so I just quit drinking coffee too.
I did have a question. I didn't buy the book and am just going by everything I have read online to follow the diet. I bought metamucil to up my fiber intake instead of making that other shake thing. Is anyone else doing it this way. Any opinions?
Congratulations on all the weight loss. And good luck to those just starting!

Hi StephanieA!

I am down 22 pounds since January 1 and yes, it is really that easy! *lol* It really is not a diet, but rethinking how a person looks at eating. I would STRONGLY, STRONGLY STRONGLY suggest you get the book. There is such a wealth of information in there and the recipe section is "OFF THE HOOK"!! It is about $10.00 on Amazon and you can even get used copies. But, if you can squeeze it into your budget, please by the book. So much more is explained, there are recipes, there is a S/C value section where you can look up foods and there are personal stories. I just went out with the family tonight for dinner and I bought my Truvia, had an unsweetened Ice Tea, some grilled buffalo wings, a serving of home fries and salad. It was do DELICIOUS. Also, I ordered two cookbooks about low carb baking that use Xylitol some of the other sweeteners Jorge recommends. The lifestyle is that easy. Also, I would suggest you got the the jorge cruise website and there should still be some downloads up as well. I have problems with caffeine, so I don't really consume it; but the withdrawal will pass. I do my month weigh-in on Feb 1 and I will post pics on my Sparkpage.

I *just* learned about The Belly Fat Cure from my intern yesterday. She brought the book in today and it really looks manageable. I am a carb lover and hate eggs but it seems even I will be able to eat a pretty "normal" diet. I have dedicated myself to the South Beach Diet several times over the last few years (lost nearly 40 pounds the first time I did it) but lately it just seems too strict. I would love any tips you guys have for me! I am planning to get started on Monday, Feb 8th.

OMG.....So I said I wasn't going to weigh myself until Friday. I really just wanted to make sure I wasn't at least gaining weight. Anddd I have lost 5lbs in 3 days! I am so excited! This diet is going to work for me. And I am so encouraged that I have promised myself I will start exercising next week.

Hi. I just recieved this book and really looking forward to trying it out... is anyone interested in starting a thread where we can put our daily menus and get ideas from others who are on the BFC? I hope it works for me! I'm nervous... And, Im from Canada so alot of these products he lists in the book aren't available in Canada, especially PEI!!

Try www.thelowcarbgrocery.com for a Canadian source of low carb products (they have PB2!); it's in Ontario, but they deliver. Not everything in the book is available in Canada, but you might be able to order from a US site.

Hi JennyG - I'd be interested in a menu thread - good idea... I"ll be starting BFC Feb 8th - but am just looking for products in the meantime - I am also in Canada and am having a hard time trying to find many items.... I have found the almond breeze though and it's good!... I'll let you know if I find any other items... the low carb grocer seems to have a few things - they are in toronto and deliver via canada post - so you could check them out too...

This sounds like to lifestyle/diet for me!! I started my healthy living on Jan 4th 2010 and as of today, I have only lost 1lb. I workout with my trainer 3-5 times a week and do 30-60min of cardio 3-4 times a week. I have been trying to count calories, but it doesn't seem to be working. I can feel my muscles getting stronger, but my clothes fit the same and the fat isn't going anywhere :?:

After reading this thread, I went through my computer files and came across a pdf file titled "The Belly Fat Cure Special Report" by Jorge Cruise. It is 50 pages long, is this the book or just an article that I have?

You guys are doing a great job losing weight, I hope to join you next week when I start the Belly Fat Cure!! Wish me Luck.

does anybody know how many sugar grams you are supposed to count for a roma tomato? I looked it up and I saw there are 6 grams of sugar in a freakin tomato. Is that right? I love tomatos and would eat them with my spinach salads but i can't if they have that much sugar. I don't actually have the book so I don't know if you are supposed to count the sugar in veggies and tomatos. I mean, should I not have tomatoes? I've lost 10 pounds in just under 3 weeks on this plan. Thanks!

Skyootr! Great! another Canadian! love it! I use alot of ezikial products already, and also PC blue menu bagels and english muffins are good as well, low sugar and carb count is normal. You can find lots of stuff at Sobey's or Superstores in the organic and refrigerated section if you can afford it :O. For the almond breeze, have you found unsweetened chocolate almond breeze? I'm thinking on requesting it at my local grocery store.
I don't usually do "fad" diets but I've been stuck since Christmas and gained 5 lbs, still in onderland but its not the same (plus, I quit smoking - day 27!!!!!)
I think a menu idea is excellent - hopefully some ppl will follow along. I am beginning this diet tomorrow, my dad and I, I will keep you all posted!

Hi JennyG - Thanks for the tips - I like the Blue Menu stuff too at Superstore - but I actually haven't checked the sugar/carb counts on them yet! I will next time I'm there. I found the ezikial products at Whole Foods out here and I haven't tried them yet - but am used to using a different sprouted grain bread - so I'll see what I like better... I had trouble finding the unsweetened chocolate almond breeze as well - the stores all had the vanilla and original but no chocolate - I did finally find it at Whole Foods also - not sure if you have one in PEI.

I'm thinking of making the ice cream this weekend - my hubby is an ice cream addict and the kids like it to - so I'll let you know how it goes!

Good luck tomorrow and be sure to check in and let us know how it's going! I'll be right behind you the following week!

Oh ya and good job on quiting smoking!! That's great! Congratulations!

I also have only been able to find the X... (sweetener - I forget the name) at a health food store - the chain grocers don't seem to carry it yet.

I was nervous too. I will get my book tomorrow. I haven't bought anything unusual except the truvia sweetner. I have just been eating no sugar and keeping my carbs between 40 and 80 grams a day. Plus I upped my fiber intake. I weighed myself tonight and I am down another 3lbs. That is 8 since Monday. I am so excited and encouraged. I am all for a thread for daily posting, although I have been doing that here ;) Good Luck to you!!

Wow! 8 since Monday - thats fantastic! I have been following the lead of a nutritionist since, well...forever ago! I have lost 90 lbs but I am stuck and as I said quit smoking for new years which has gained me 5 lbs, so my dad and I are going to try this plan for 2 weeks to jump start us. I sat down and wrote us both out a menu for the week and I am going to finally make some recipes out of my hungry girl cookbook, which I am looking forward too. I think this new way of eating is the challenge I need to get past my plateau! Here's to hoping it works for myself and my dad as it has been working for you fellow BFC'ers! I am still shocked with the stats of carrots and peppers ( I love bell peppers!!!) But, am I wrong if I prefer a slice of ezekial bread compared to a 1/2 cup of carrots?!?! lol.

Well - I guess I will start the BFC tomorrow!! I have been on a super restrictive calorie reduced low carb diet for the last 3 weeks and have lost 13 lbs and I was going to do it for another week so I could fit back into my work clothes (heading back to work as my maternity leave is ending)!! But I can't do it anymore - it's so restrictive and I'm starving!! ha ha

Anyways rather than wait I'll start this tomorrow - it will be interesting to see what my body does - if I gain a bit at first or if I just keep losing!!... Anyways my menu plan for tomorrow is as follows:

B - 2 poached eggs, 2 pieces of toast with butter (0/2)
L - low carb wrap with pork tenderloin, lettuce and cucumber (2/1)
D - some sort of salad with turkey....
Snacks - almonds or maybe one of the whey shakes...

just a rough idea - we'll see how it goes!

JennyG
01-29-2010, 07:28 AM
Good Luck!! My day is planned out simple enough as well;

B - 2 eggs, 2 slices ezekial toast with butter 0/2
S - 1/2 C strawberries 4/1
L - 3 oz chicken breast, 1 oz Feta Cheese, salad with dressing and sugar free jello if I am still hungry 2/0
S - mushrooms and hummus 0/1
D - not sure yet, but thinking a spinach and egg white omellete!

Happy Friday everyone! It's a storm day here on PEI, lots and lots of a snow after 2 beautiful days of no snow and a high of 7 celsius!

skyootr
01-29-2010, 08:45 PM
So... this is what I ended up with for the day...
B- 2 poached eggs, with 2 toast and butter 2/2
L- 2 baked chicken strips (7/1) and salad 1/0
Snack - handfull of almonds 0/0
D - 2 cracker crumb chicken thighs and 1/2 c green beans 1/1
snack - maybe a protein shake...

So I noticed that I have to make an effort to make sure my sugars mostly come from fruit/veggies - as it's really easy to have crackers or toast etc....
today it was the chicken strips that amped up my sugars.... so tomorrows another day!

Hope everyone had a great day!

I made the shrimp scampi which is listed as a 3/2. I put the recipe in my program in my iphone - Lose it!. I put in all the ingredients and it only came up with the carbs as 18 so how is this 2 carbs

Also, anyone else having problems with the book falling apart. The plastic wire rings just does not keept the pages together. I have had to put the pages back together twice now.

Day 6 - I have lost 7 lbs and and I am not hungry or feel deprived. Hopefully this will last.

I'm not sure, but I know that if u broke that up, about 1oz of the pasta would be a carb and between the carrots, broccolie, and summer squash together they would count as a carb... so I'm thinking that is why it would be 2. but, do u know what? If, I were you, because of the calculation I got, I would do it one more time to make sure its right and count it as one carb. hey why not!

I don't seem to be having any problems with the rings in my book.

Day 3 - not sure, will check on Monday morning!

I'm getting a little frustrated. The scale isn't moving. It's been since the 14th and granted I had some bad days but since last Sunday I haven't cheated at all. I've lost some inches but I would have expected the scale to be moving. The only thing I haven't done this week is work out.
Maybe should write down everything I am eating and see if I am eating too little.

Yesterday and the day before I had less than 80 total carbs and only 1 or 2 sugars. Maybe that's the problem.

UGH!!!

JennyG

Yes, as we all know, eating too much is bad for us and eating too little is even worse, putting our body into starvation mode and storing every little bit as body fat. You should really aim to get your 15 sugars and 6 carb servings, according to his book. I know some days its hard, but even if you could aim for that 3 out of 7 days or something as a little goal, keeping a food diary would be a great idea for you. You should be losing on this diet. Don't get frustrated tho, just keep pushing along!!! Believe me!!

Ok - hubby is finally on board... he put it off all weekend... he is not a dieter and thinks he won't be able to eat anything - he is a sugaraholic!! I keep telling him no - you can eat... but I think he has his doubts! He has never dieted and really he only needs to drop 10 lbs... but I think cutting back on sugar will be good for him anyways!!

So we have officially started today.

How is everyone else doing?

I have been on the Belly Fat Cure for exactly 1 month. I am down 24 pounds!! My grocery bill has shrunk by $50 a week and I could not be happier with the program. I am an over 35 wife, mother, work outside the home woman and here are my observations:

1) The diet is cheap. I went out and bought Ezekiel bread in the beginning and it is still sitting in my fridge. It is delicious, but I have found that I like making sandwiches with the low-carb tortillas during the week. I have found store brand hot dog and hamburger buns that are the store brand, 2 for $4 and have 19 grams of carbs and 0 Sugar. I have found pasta found in Stop and Shop that is on sale has 0 sugar and carbs in the same range as the recommended pasta in BFC. This diet can be as cheap or as expensive as you make it. No different than any other program like Weight Watchers or South Beach. You can buy their products or make your own. Make your own lemonade with Truvia and lemons. Make your own "spritzers" with carbonated water and a dash of unsweetened juice and Truvia. Buy used cookbooks on Amazon..I got one called, Desserts and Xylitol or something like that. Learn how to make you own and save money.

2) The diet is simple. My 15 year old son is on it and he does the diet about 80% of the time as he is a teenager and that is how teenagers are. The weekends he hangs out with friends and he does not go "crazy" but allows himself a few things within reason.

3)Exercise. Although Jorge does not recommend it. FOR ME, it just feels better to be moving. I do no less than 10 minutes and no more than 45 minutes 5 days a week. I went from being a "semi couch potato" on January 1st to a now energetic intermediate exerciser because (1) I finally have energy to work out! On other diets, I was starving, cranky and lethargic. ON BFC, I had so much energy and no aching bones, that I FINALLY could exercise with some regularity. Do you know how "freeing" that is?? I was doing a Jari Love video the other night and there is this section where a nutritionist talks about "nutrition" when working out and Low and Behold, she said something that went right back to what Jorge said. She said where Atkins diets failed, "CONTROLLED CARB" diets are addressing the needs of people who work out. I am sure that this nutritionist is no way affiliated with Jorge, but I was like YES! Exactly!! Again, you don't have to workout per the diet, but I feel so much better and with average of 30 minutes a day of exercise, that is nothing!

People stop me and ask what I am doing. When I explain it to them; they don't get it because we have been programmed to "diet" a certain way. I am done explaining. I give them the name of the book and let them look at my results. End of story...It is all that I would hoped it would be! Good luck to all!!

I am truly amazed at how this diet is working for me. I'm almost two weeks in on this diet and have more energy now that I ever have had with past diets and I am feeling really great!

I also noticed today that just about all of the bloat from my stomach is gone- it's weird because I haven't watched my sodium or counted calories just stayed within the 15 grams of sugar and 6 servings of carbs- yet my stomach is looking and feeling lighter! Clothes are getting loser around my stomach area as well. Such a nice feeling and even a better one that you can still have your favorite foods on this diet and not pay the price of gaining weight! :carrot:

The last three days I've been exercising because I have lots of energy right now! Instead of dreading working out I actually look forward to it now. Maybe all that sugar zapped my energy in the past even when I was dieting?

Give this diet a try. Even when the scale doesn't move the inches literally melt off. Well worth buying the book in my opinion!

Oh and one thing that has tremendously helped me on this diet- I don't eat any carbs for breakfast at all. I just stick to eggs and bacon; omelets; chicken; tuna; etc without the carbs as that seems to help with my appetite control.

I have one veggie carb with my lunch- usually a low carb veggie like celery or mushrooms- although I have had broccoli with my lunch but that seems to trigger the hungries for me in the afternoon. I save almost all of my carbs for night time- dinner and snacks to which some nights I really don't need a snack as I am very full from dinner. ;)

Too funny- just read this after I made my post. I said the exact same thing- the energy is just amazing! I have NEVER had this much energy before- on a diet or not!! I can't believe how much I can do for exercise yet I am not exhausted the next day and any soreness I have is very minor and doesn't last long.

As far as the money goes on this diet- I haven't had any difference in how much I buy to eat. If anything I am eating less and am saving a few bucks a week. I've found a lot of substitutes like you did in the store- he recommends things to us but we don't have to necessarily buy that product or else you'll fail! LOL So long as you watch your sugars and carbs nothing is really off limits on this diet folks.

Hello all. I have been following the BFC diet for about a month. I was surprised that there weren't any forums about this diet. Not sure if its because it is too new but I was happy to find this one to discuss with other people that are following the same regimen. Prior to following this I ate a relatively good diet however I always had a sweet tooth and ate the kids junk food, cookies and tons of sugared juices. I never did weight myself when I first started because my scale was broken but I am estimating I lost about 15lbs. My clothes does seem to fit better and the same with shirts around my neck. I am at about 198lbs now and my goal is 180lbs. I did buy some of the recommended products such as the eziekel bread, truvia and almond milk. unlike some i eat my carbs in the morning then start to dwindle it down during the day. I also drink a soy protein shake for breakfast I used to get urges to snack because I used to do it everyday but that has subsided. I think the one thing I did have a problem with was getting my fiber intake to normal. I started taking benefiber to help supplement it. I also found some dry roasted edamame at costco and picked it up to replace the almonds I would normally eat. It has tons of fiber (about 8g per serving) and protein. I do have a question about the sugar intake. I dont take the 15grams of sugar daily and only about 3-4 servings of carbs. Do people try to reach those recommended limits or is staying under ok. I find it hard to get the 15grams of sugar if I am trying to cut it off. Thanks to everyone

Hi Numero1latino

Sounds like you are doing great on BFC! That's excellent!
I like your tip about the dry roasted edemame - did you find it at Costco in the states or Canada?? just wondering as I'd like to have a look around for it.

I don't think you need to eat all your sugars every day - or your carbs - although I guess if your energy started to dwindle you'd need to make sure to eat your carbs... I think having 5 some days is fine... I think Jorge says to eat your carbs though... that rings a bell....- also if you aren't eating all your sugar and lacking fibre maybe you could add in some high fibre veggies - broccoli- and use your sugar points that way!....

Just a thought!

My hubby and I just started on Monday - he is down two lbs and I am down 1 I think! so that's good - plus I just feel better! not bloated or run down....

Anyways hope everyone is having a good day and good luck to all!

Thanks sky. I got the Edamame at the costco in the states. I live in Northern VA. I tried to find it in the Trader Joes however apparently they no longer carry it. I still cant post links but the one I got is called Seapoint Farms Dry Roaster Edamame Lightly Salted. I just googled it and they have a website.

Good idea on increasing the veggie intakes. I actually like broccoli so that shouldnt be a problem. Thanks for the tip
Glad you are feeling well and good luck to you as well

Hi everyone"

Numero1 - according to the book, you do not have to have 15g of sugar

I have a question about the book: In the recipes it shows "other sides" -
are these included in the s/c value or do you count extra if you also have those? Hoping someone can answer that.

I have my weigh in tonight, and am planning on starting this programme tomorrow & see how it goes for 1 week.
Hope I can do as good as all of you

SistaDiva - that's great - you've done so well - keep up the good work!!

Had a good day yesterday but I ate too much I think - stayed within my sugar/carb count and was 11/6 for the day - but did too much snacking at night... so going to reduce that today!!

Have a great day everyone!

I am so happy so many of your are at least giving this a try. I know it is counter-intuitive to not count calories or not eat a lot of high sugar fruits. But, once you get the hang of it; it is all "grits and gravy"! I am on my cycle this week, so I am still keeping my diet and exercise schedule up and I won't weigh until after "Aunt Flo" has left.

One thing I have noticed since I am now over a month into this is that your appetite really shrinks. I don't snack in general because I am just not hungry. I don't buy anything that I haven't always bought except for the Truvia, Zevia, various Tortilla wraps, Unsweetened Blue Diamond Almond milk and low sugar Ketchup. Yes, I buy the Heinz which does have the sucralose, but it is at the very end of the ingredients list and I use it sparingly. Many foods can become "BELLY GOOD" by paying attention to portion size, carb and sugar count. Don't feel like you have to spend a million bucks to do this diet. Don't get overwhelmed by all of the products he has in his book. Many of us have an ice cream maker..Make your own ice cream!!

Online, I have found some places that have desserts sweetned with Maltitol and I am "splurging" with getting a Juniors Sugar Free Cheesecake for dessert on Valentines day. QVC sales the regular and a sugar free sampler. Also, there is another site I will post that has all kinds of sweets that use Maltitol as a sweetener. I bought some cookies and a coffecake from there and I will put them in the freezer. I don't crave sweets, but when I want some, I will have them around.

I am now only allowing myself sweets because I wanted to get the "taste" of wanting sweets under control by abstaining in the beginning. I know in the past, I started off with sugar free sweets and immediately incorporated them into my diet. I chose not to do that this time because I wanted to re-educate my palette if you will. Now, my Zevia soda is extremely sweet to me and I like them, but I put tons of ice in them to not make them so sweet. When I first tasted them, I thought they were not sweet enough, but your tastes may change. I now like EXTREMELY SPICY food....I always liked spice, but now I want it hotter! I can taste "salt" much more than I ever had and I prefer low sodium.

Working out! Again, the energy is through the roof. Please, take 10 minutes to do some sort of dedicated physical activity. You will feel better and you will be surprised at how it enhances and elevates losing pounds and inches. I literally was a semi-couch potato who gained 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas..I was busting out of my 1Xs and I had no stamina. To go from that to doing intermediate (and a little advanced) workouts from Jari Love's Ripped Series, the FIRM and now, the Brazillian Butt Lift from Beach Body ..well, it still amazes me. The body can adapt and recover and become strong when we put our mind, body and soul into it.

My reason for losing weight for the first time came from a "spiritual" place for me. I am Christian and I love everybody! Seriously, to each his own..but during my daily devotionals the week before January 1; it was all about "change, getting out of my comfort zone and challenging self" then when my son said he wanted to lose weight...I knew it was time for me make changes for me and him.

Whatever your reasons for losing weight and changing, make sure you are doing it for YOU! I was just talking with a cousin the other day and I asked about a friend of hers who lost weight on WWs last year. SHe lost about 70 pounds because she wanted to get a boyfriend and have a GREAT social life. Steph, my cousin, told me that her friend gained ALL the weight back and then some and she only stayed skinny for about a month before she started gaining it back. Her friend said, "I thought the weightloss would bring me more dates and cute guys." When it did not happen or fast enough..She said, "Forget this!" and is back to her old routines. I dont know if she is happier, but I know when I lose weight. It is all about me feeling better, doing my personal best and challenging myself and being a good role model as a wife and mom. I want to give my best and show how you can balance your life. Does my husband think I am hot? He always has, but he says now I am "glowing" and I have more energy.

So, ladies, just hang in there and challenge yourself to be your own best!

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on me. As of this morning I have lost 15lbs. This is my 9th day on the BFC. I agree with Sista. I am not buying a bunch of specialty products. Just applying the diet to foods I would normally eat. I will continue to eat this way until it stops working! lol I still haven't started exercising but I am hoping to add that soon. I too feel a lot less hungry, especially when I get my fiber in. This is the most encouraged I have been with a diet, ever! Good luck to everyone else as well :)

Skyroot:

I try and "pay it forward"..I hope it gives everyone a little something to think about. I was watching Inside Edition and last week and they had that child, Heidi Montag on there with all those plastic surgeries and I felt bad for her. I really, really did. She is 23 years old and getting all of that done? I mean really how much "better" does she think her life will be? What is her definition of "better"? You know? Then, I was home with a sick child yesterday and I caught Oprah and RUBY the weightloss woman was on there. She is so pretty and she has lost so much weight. She had on jeans for the first time yesterday. She talked about that "space of time" where she cannot remember her childhood and how it contributed to her overeating and how her mother played a big role in that due to her own emotional and mental health issues. I will not spoil it, but excess weight I think for many women is not because people are "greedy" or lazy.

What a fantastic job you are doing!! CONGRATS with a CAPITAL C!! I am so happy for you!! Do your thing Ms. Lady!!

This WOE can be done very economically. Again, my food bill has reduced by $50 a week.

There are so many options. Just find the nutritional information online for the foods he recommends and find healthy alternatives.

Now, I am a huge fan of the Zevia soda and the low carb tortillas and the Almond milk. I get those regularly along with the Truvia, but everything else is just regular stuff from the store. We cannot get Clemmy's ice cream here although they have it in NYC and it is no telling when we will get it. SO, I just go without until I decide I want to make my own. I found a recipe on line for low carb "Custard" using Splenda, but I am going to make it using Maltitol. I love frozen custard!! I am excited about that.

Hi everyone:

Can anyone answer my question I posted yesterday?

If "other sides" shown in the recipes in the book are part of the s/c value. Am hoping the people you have been following this can help with this.

Thank you

Thank you

I think that the sides are included. I checked the Crispy Chicken Panini on page 181. With the sides I got a carb total of 34.5 which would be 2 servings like the s/c value says. Just watch the portion size of the sides, the recipe amount is for four servings.

That awesome. Not to bring any negative energy to the thread but I did notice, for me atleast, that I lost much more duing the first week or so, then the weight loss started to slow down. It still averaging about 2lbs a week give or take..not that I want some sort of unhealthy rapid weightloss but I did make that observation. Please let me know how it works for you as well as if anyone else has made this same observation.

Hope you are ready for the snow storm. I am already planning on taking off work :)

Hey everyone!! I haven't weighed myself, and Tom's here, or as some might say "Aunt Flo" so I won't weigh myself until it is gone. Today was hard, I don't even eat alot of sweet stuff, but starting my time of the month...I caved!! I probly went over my sugars by about 5 so I'd say my day today was 20/6. Which is not THAT bad, I guess! Anyways, I'm making a deal with myself and my scale that I won't step on it until Monday morning - think its do-able?!!?!? On the other hand, My dad started with me and tomorrow will be day 7 and he is down 5 lbs, which is good I think!

I'm getting stuck on ideas for snacks and stuff, because I used to always have a fruit for my snack, but goodness that isn't happening on the BFC, any other ideas? I've been eating almonds or a cheese string or sugar free jello (even if it is "belly bad", it keeps me sane!!) Is anyone interested in posting their daily menus so we can give each other some ideas??

Funny that you mention snacks. I eat pretty much just eat almonds and string cheese too. I just found some dry roasted edamame at costco so I guess that's an option however in the book they suggest items such as certain kinds of chips, sugar free cookies and corn snacks. That particular page is available on google books if you want to see it. I was also thinking popcorn would be a good snack. I check air popped and it had 6g of carbs for a 8g serving and no sugar. Just a thought

Thanks for the congrats Sista :)

Numero - I kind of figured my loss would slow down so I am mentally preparing myself not to get down about that. 2lbs a week is still awesome! I would be happy with that! I think as long as I see something each week, it will keep me motivated. Congrats on your success. As for the snow, I am SO over it and hope we don't get much. I know I am in denial but this is the worst winter we have had in many years and I hate it! lol

Snacks - I have been eating some mixed nuts, cheese, pork rinds, baked crackers. I eat the sugar free jello pudding with the live active in it. I tend to save a serving or two of my carbs for snacks b/c I like to snack.

One of the hardest things for me has been breakfast. I don't have time to eat a proper breakfast but I have started buying the Atkins shakes and drinking one on the way to work in the morning.

You did SUPER! Two pounds a week a very good and that is what most doctors advise. Also, you may not have as much weight to lose as someone heavier. IN the book, he gives you averages of how much weight a person can lose per week depending on how heavy they are. It is a chart towards the beginning.

My weightloss is accelerated because I do work out and I work out at an Intermediate to Advanced level. Mainly Intermediate. I am doing the Jari Love Ripped Series, the FIRM Transfirmer and now the Beachbody Brazilian Butt Lift. I do about 60 minutes on the weekends per session and 30 minutes daily. I did not start out doing this. In fact, I started out doing Ellen Barett's Barefoot Cardio and Debra Mazda's "Shapely Girl" walking DVD. For me (and everyone knows their own body), exercising was something I knew I would do no matter what diet I chose. With the BFC, I actually have the energy and the satiety to workout. Plus, I had 80 pounds to lose, now, 56, but for me and me only, this is the route I chose to take.

Believe me when I say, I started out doing 10 minutes and adding more as I went along every few days. Now, I am lifting 5 and 8 pounds with Jari Love's Extremely Ripped and Ripped 1000 which is a combination of weights and aerobics/step and interval training. The BFC has "freed" me from being hungry and given me energy. I don't try and impress anyone else but me. I am challenging myself to my own personal best. If you feel like you can exercise, then go for it!:smug: I started at 10 minutes and got "lighter" and more confident and I now know how not only losing the weight is making me healthier, but "moving" is getting me healthier.

You are already doing something so positive for you! You have gotten rid of the sugar and your body is loving you for it. I may not lose a pound this week, but that is "OK"..I am living life and eating well. Even yesterday, I went to Whole Foods and found the Joseph's Cookies on sale for $3.00 and I ordered a Sugar Free cheesecake from Juniors that I will eat over the next few weeks. QVC ships them and the price is not bad. They use the Maltitol and I am like "YEAH". There is also another company called, FIGIS I think out of Alabama that has sweets that use Maltitol as well.

I generally don't snack. I am just not hungry and when I eat a meal. I am full very quickly. When I do snack, I like to take some "Cold" Blue Diamond Unsweetened Choclate Almond Milk, 2 packs of Truvia and a Splash or two of Creme to make a really, rich tasting glass of chocolate milk. It is SOOO good and it is my "sweet indulgence".

My daily menu:

Breakfast:

Scrambled eggs made with refried spicy beans *usually a tablspoon) with green chiles

Low sodium bacon or gluten free salmon cakes

Lunch:

Wrap with deli meat, cheese, guacamole, EXTRA HOT Habenero salsa, spinach leaves.
Sometimes "Burger and Fries". I use the "Light" store brand sugar free wheat rolls, burger with the works and some portioned out fries that are either 1 or two servings of carbs.

Zevia Soda

Dinner:

Ranges from:

Buffalo Chili and Guacamole
Grilled meat, starch (usually potatoes!), mixed greens
Roasted chicken, beef, buffalo or pork
Spaghetti with meat sauce (use low carb tomato sauce)
Meatloaf (use low carb tomato sauce)
Smothered pork chops (Use the gravies he recommends and since I am cooking for a family of 4, I can enhance the gravy with 1 tablsp of regular flour and stock by making a roux..10 servings per batch. Not many carbs per serving)
Gluten Free fish cakes
Zevia Soda

I just like to keep it simple. When we go out to eat, I stick with grilled meats and seafood. If we eat a breakfast, I go for the omelettes and a side of hashbrowns, I bring my Truvia with me and have iced tea.

Wow that is some serious work outs. I do some in the evenings if the kids let me. Mostly do about 30mins of jump rump. I have all the P90x videos and a few months ago I actually completed it so I think I am going to do that again. Thanks for the info on the weight loss averages. that makes sense. My goal is 180 so i might shed it slower than some. Being snowed in this weekend I baked some boneless ribs and am going to spend on all my sugar points on BBQ sauce. LOL :D

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend

Hi all,

I'm on my second week of BFC. I lost 4lbs the first week and I was thrilled. I have a couple of questions for those with more experience.

I know the book warns against using some of the alternative sweeteners but will using the sweeteners actually inhibit weight loss?

Does anyone have a recommendation for an energy boost drink in the morning? I'm trying to kick the coffee habit. I'm going to try one of the Lipton Tea's in the book but I'm not sure if that will give the boost I need.

Thanks!

Hi Numero1Latina:

Ummm..Shortribs! Sounds sooo good! It is cold up here in New England!! Brrr! I am happy to offer what has worked for me. Working out is a part of my life now and I have chosen to make working out a part of my lifestyle. I was a dancer back in high school and that was 20+ years ago. I was eating so poorly, I just never had the energy to workout and now that has changed. Tell me about little ones!:cool: My 6.5 year old just clicked the "COOL face"...But, we have a deal, she can come downstairs in the basement when I am working out, but I can't talk to her. I tell her it is "Mommy's time". When she is restless, I only choose 1/2 hour workouts in that case and Jari has some workouts broken up into 1/2 sets or I will do Mitch Gaylord's Perfect 10 which can be done in 10 minutes or I will do "Bum-Bum Rapido" from the Brazillain Butt workout. Or, I will workout while she is eating and my teenage son can keep an eye on her. When she goes to sleep, I usually can do a 45 minute workout at the end of the night.

Jumping rope! That is very cool! I have not done that in years! I will leave that to you "young folks". I love watching boxers do that fast jump roping..That is INSANE!

P90-X...that is HARD! You can do that??? Well, pat yourself on the back. Will you try INSANITY???

Thinking of ribs...I love my pork ribs!!! One of my best girls gave me this Cuban style pork recipe that she said would be perfect for "country style" cut ribs....Hmmmm. I don't think they will last long in my house! Especially on Superbowl Sunday!

Someone asked a question about the "banned sweeteners" from the diet. I don't use them 98% of the time. I did buy the Heinz ketchup and the last ingredient is sucralose. I don't eat ketchup much, but I use it and I have had no problem. I wanted to order the one he reccommended, but many of the products that he recommended from Carb Smart are not available right now. So, I said, Heinz ketchup here I come because I don't want ot just order one item and pay all that shipping..

Also, as far as energy drinks..I don't drink coffee so, I am not sure of a good replacement.

Hey Sistadiva!! I took the INSANITY challenge, and let me tell you, it was freaking insane!!!!

Minihaha --For energy drinks, hmm...ever try greens+ ? www.genuinehealth.com There products are by far the best AND all natural! They have greens+ energy, smoothies that u mix with water and all kinds of things that should be able to help those looking for an energy drink or a boost. Good luck giving up coffee, I did it for 3 weeks just to see if I could do it, and I could no problem, however I just like the taste of coffee so I drink it - knowing that I am not addicted!

Minihaha --- I use Stevia most of the time, however here on PEI (Canada, in general) we can't get any of his approved sweeteners other than stevia products, so I have used splenda a few times, I also drink alot of crystal light which is aspartame and I've lost 6 pounds in one week, so I am not too concerned. Plus I figure if thats how I am going to get my water into me, than fine!

Hope all you BFC'ers are having a great weekend!!

SistaDiva its actually Numero1latino, I am a guy :D, I hope that is cool with everyone. I noticed that it mostly women in the forums. Ribs came out awesome. They were country ribs and I marinated them overnight in some Mojo. I actually backed out from using BBQ sauce even though I wanted it.

The snow kicked my butt these last few days from all the shoveling. My back is killing me. It was a great workout though and I was sweating like crazy. Steam was actually coming out of my sleeves when I took my gloves off.

Well you asked for it so I am going to do it....INSANITY that is. I was bored with the P90x and I have a friend that has a ton of these work out videos and he has the INSANITY so I am going to start asap. Not sure if this week or next because my back is killing me. I havent really been that hungry today, not sure if its the cold or what but thankfully I have had a decent amount of energy. Enjoy the superbowl everyone

Hi All

I am so hopeful after reading your posts. I was also thrilled to see the Canadians here ... It will be a huge help to be able to share where we can get some products locally. While I agree that you don't have to purchase all the items he mentions, it can be really helpful when you're dying for something different.

I've ordered my BFC book today and will start as soon as I receive it. Until then, I'm going to start cutting down on my sugar intake and making healthier choices. I'd love to have the extra energy all of you are talking about.

Thanks again ... and keep up the good work ladies :grouphug:

Welcome Time2Bme!
Where in Canada are you from? Its nice to have other Canadian's here! I'll tell ya, if I could, I'd do my grocery shopping in the states and live here lol, but unfortunetly that isn't going to happen! However I have found some great substitutes at the local grocery store, but its not as easy as just whipping up his recipes in the book without the right ingrediants!

So far, I am loving the BFC, its simple and easy and tasty, except I really miss canteloupe and oranges!!! It's just not worth the S/C value!

Here's to a another great week everyone!! I'm weighing in tomorrow - hope its good! except, I had alot of sodium today, I feel its more than usual so we'll see!!

Hi everyone,

I am starting BFC tomorrow after doing 6 months on WW and having decent success. However, I really need to find a way to better manage my intake of sugar and refined carbs and this plans looks the most user-friendly of the low-carb plans out right now. Also, I wanted a meal plan that gave me energy to do my running and FIRM workouts and the miniscule amount I was eating on WW was leaving me hungry and lethargic.

I saw a Youtube Clip where Jorge was showing how you can eat out on BFC at major chain restaurants. For example, he said at McDonald's you can have the angus burger in a lettuce wrap instead of the bun and still be able to have a small serving of fries. Any diet that allows me to have my beloved fries is worth giving a try :p

llama are you working out while on this diet? I only ask because when I was doing the P90x i wasn't losing weight on the scale but I did notice that I was losing fat. I think the added muscle made it seem that I wasn't losing weight. I guess the main objective of any of these programs is fat loss and not weight loss. That is how I see it. I wish there was an easy way to track fat loss. I have some of those calipers to measure fat but its never consistent

Greetings Ms. Nubiennelady!

That was what impressed me so much with this way of eating. I have lots of energy and I like to workout. No other diet has afforded me energy. I have done WWs in the past and I was always and I mean..ALWAYS hungry and lethargic. Now, I work out about 30 to 45 minutes daily doing Jari Love Ripped Series, the Firm, Brazilian Butt Lift and Melt it off with Mitch. I rotate them around....

Jari is my absolute favorite because she is no nonsense and very encouraging. I was "afraid" of the Ripped series, but the more energy I had the less taxing it has been on me. Plus, Jari is so encouraging with her workouts..tough but encouraging that there is never any dread factor. You will see results quickly by doing her three times a week. She is like a step up from the FIRM with simpler moves and many, many more reps, but she always offers a modification for beginners and advanced workouts.

Good luck and continued success!

I have been doing this diet for 5 weeks and have only lost 5 pounds. I am watching my carbs and sugars and limiting them to what the book says. It looks like it is working for lots of people on here. Has anybody had an experience like mine where they aren't losing much?

Greetings llama:

I have a few questions. How much are you trying to lose? Are you getting ALL of your water in? Have you kept a journal for what you have been eating for the past several weeks? Are you "active"? Are you spreading your carbs throughout the day or are you eating one large high carb meal a day?

I am constantly "mixing" my BFC diet up with how I eat my carbs. I am finding that "tricking" my body seems to keep things going well. Jorge has a really, really good plan, but everyone's body is different. On the weekends, I tend to eat more carbs for breakfast (sometimes half for the day) and in the evenings I have very little to make up my 120 for the day. Jorge mentions on page 324 to eat all of your carbs before 3 pm. If you are eating them all after 3 pm, that could be stalling your weightloss/slowing it down.

Also, make sure your carb servings are what they are supposed to be. I know I get "excited" around french fries and yes, I eat them several times a week. I always read and "re-read' what the package says..If 15 fries are considered a serving and that is 20 carbs..I make sure I stick with 15 fries. If I have 30, I know I have eaten two servings and I just stop myself. Personally, when I make a sandwich, I have a good amount of meat on there because protein keeps me/you full. There are so many low carb/high fiber tortilla wraps. I found one yesterday that is 13 grams of protein, 0 sugar and 11 carbs. It was at my local Shaws (like a Krogers or Stop and Shop) and I could not be happier!! With all that protein and fiber along with my smoked turkey, I can guarantee I will not be hungry for several hours. I shoot for foods that have a high fiber and protein content...Just read labels and try to get the most nutritional bang for your buck.

Also, I believe exercise is a good thing. It is not just about finding a good eating plan, but you want to have a good "health plan" and exercise is just good for you. Do you have to kill yourself and workout 60 minutes a day? Of course not! But, our bodies were meant to move. During the week, I average about 30 minutes a day mixing it up with toning, lifting and aerobics. Good tapes to start with are Leslie Sanson walking tapes.

Keep us posted!

Thanks SistaDiva2001 and Numero1latino!

I am trying to lose about 30 pounds. I have not been exercising but I will start. Jorge says you don't have to exercise for the diet to work but it sounds like a lot of people posting here do. I do spread my carbs throughout the day. The book says you should lose 4 - 9 pounds a week so my 5 pounds in 5 weeks is really slow! I really appreciate the tips and support!

You are welcome.

Could you post a typical day's menu for yourself?

Hi everyone - thanks for all the good information!

I am still on my 1st week for this eating plan. Started last Thur & so far,
have pretty much stayed on track. My w/i day is Wed so hopefully will drop a few pounds. Since I was already following another plan, I don't expect a drastic drop at the scales. I think people who have huge losses were ones that we not already on some kind of plan.

Anyway,good luck.

I've been doing the Belly Fat Cure since 1/4 and I've lost 9 lbs., which is 2nd most I've lost in 5.5 years. I fell off the wagon at a Superbowl Party and gained 2.5 lbs. overnight - my stomach immediately felt bloated and disgusting. I've been trying to get back with the program but it's soooo hard all of a sudden. It was fine when I ddin't have non BFC food in my house and now that I do, I'm losing willpower quickly!

I track my food on Sparkpeople.com and that counts the carbs for me, unfortunately, it doesn't track sugar, which is a problem - does anyone know if the Lose It iPhone app tracks sugar?

Dont worry jki. We are all people and I wouldn't even consider it falling off the wagon and sometimes we just want to enjoy ourselves. I have done it with beer, gosh I love beer, and just keep moving forward afterward. Just try to stay focused and move on. I just downloaded a new app, I think it was called IFitness or something but it is for tracking calories. I really just wanted something to track my weight daily even though my wife says I shouldn't be checking everyday (I guess I shouldn't)

I did the Fit Test for the Insanity work out today and it killed me. I can only imagine what the real work outs are going to be like but at least it will motivate me to be a bit more active

Hey Numero1latino - the actual Insanity workouts are...INSANE!!! Enjoy, they're fun and unlike P90X, u don't need all them gimmiks, just the TV and your body! Enjoy!
Today is day 11, and I am down 6 lbs, so thats good. It's just the boost I needed, I couldn't get back on track after Christmas/New Years at all...I also quit smoking and I'm pretty sure that was what my 5 lb gain was from, but now its gone again! yay!! Anyhoo, I am loving the BFC, my energy level is high and I like little carbs, except I really do miss alot of the fruits I was used to eating and I even find myself picky with certain vegetables because I'd rather a slice of ezekial than 14 carrot sticks...is that so wrong?! lol. I also exercise vigorusly for 60 minutes 6 days a week so I don't know if that will do anything to effect my results or not?!

Thanks for the welcome SistaDiva.

Today was Day One and considering I made the decision to start late last night, I did alright. I ended the day with a S/C value of 10/8. I didn't have much BFC-friendly foods in the house but I got to the grocery store tonight. I should be able to get those carb servings down to 6 or less.

No exercise today as I'm still dealing with neck spasms so no exercise until this pain subsides.

Went to trader joes today to get some bread and more stevia and I found some dark chocolate that has no added sugar. It does contain some malititol however according to the book this should be ok. One serving has a SC of 0/1. I got the almond one and it tasted good to me and finally can have a sweet snack without feeling bad. The book does say it can cause bloating but I am sure that is if you eat it in excess. I also picked up some almond butter to change things up a bit as well as some whole grain waffles. The waffles have more sugar than I would want but 5g for 2 waffles seems to be ok considering I am eating virtually no sugar.

I also rocked out the INSANITY again today and it sure does kick your butt. I am going to keep with it. If I get under 190 by the end of the month I think I will throw a party or something..:D

So, guys I started yesterday - so far, so good. I can't believe how easy this diet seems to be so far. I am very satisfied by the food:
B - 1 slice Ezekial bread, 2 oz ham, 1 slice swiss, spicy mustard
S - string cheese, lemon ginger tea
L - pita pizza on 1/2 pita with pizza sauce, italian sausage, turkey pepperoni and part skim mozzarella
S - 5 saltines, small amount pate with mushrooms, unsweetened ginger tea
D - 2 chicken tacos on corn tortillas with 2% cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes, 5 oz wine
I did go out and splurge on Nature's Hollow BBQ sauce, Heinz ketchup (couldn't find the other), Ezekial bread/buns/tortillas, Annie's Naturals ****ake & Sesame vinaigrette, Trader Joe's marinara sauce, almond butter with flaxseeds, and the 85% organic dark chocolate. I think that in general, I can do this w/o spending too much extra money - though I ordered 3 flavors Nature's Hollow preserves, xylitol, and "tastes like honey" today online for $30.
I will weigh myself at the end of the week and let you guys know how I am doing. I have rallied some friends to join me too! I look forward to our chats...

Yes, the Iphone app can be set to count sugars as well as carbs. The food list could be bigger but you can add any foods to the list.

Hi guys, I'm a newbie to this site and this plan.
It's day 5 for me and I'm down 1.4 pounds so far.
I thought I would've lost more (just going by other forums and stuff), but the plan seems way too easy to lose so much, so fast. I feel like I'm not even dieting, so I'm happy with a loss of anything.

Is anyone drinking that psyllium husk and probiotic drink recipe in the book? Does it help? I feel like I'm not eliminating as often as I should be.

Thanks y'all.

If you feel like you are not eliminating enough, make sure you are drinking lots of water..I average about 140 ounces a day minimally.

Make sure you are using HIGH FIBER bread products..I mainly use low carb tortillas and the fiber count on the brand I am using is 13 grams per tortilla. I started out with Ezekiel bread products, but I just prefer the tortillas for sandwiches and Stop and Shop has "ligth" whole wheat hot dog buns/hamburger that are 18 carbs, 10 fiber ( I think) and they are good and cheaper. I get them 2 for $4.00. Also, I use spinach on my sandwiches instead of lettuce.

I have only used the Physllium once or twice.

Chia seeds are also very good. I just started using them again last night. I bought them before the holidays but just got off track using them daily. Best thing about them is they don't have any taste. You can mix them in most foods- it doesn't change the taste. I just drink mine with water.

Hi All!!
Sounds like everyone is doing great and staying on track for the most part! As I said to my hubby if you "fall off the wagon" now and again it's still got to be better than eating all that sugar etc. every day like you were before!

Anyways I've just been maintaining - was on a super calorie reduced low carb diet before I started BFC... in the last week we have had a birthday party for my son (he turned 1) and I have just started back to work this week as well as starting a new work out program!! So lots of "new" things... my goal is to be more strict with my eating this weekend and going foward!! so hopefully some more pounds will drop!!

Great to hear how everyone is progressing - keep up the good work!

Is everone having snacks in between the meals? I don't always do that. Also I was thinking I spread my carbs throughout the day and mostly I do but sometimes I don't eat breakfast and double up at lunch. Do you think any of this is slowing the weight loss?

Numero1latino
02-10-2010, 10:37 PM
Oddly enough I snack more when I am at work than when I am at home. But the snacks usually consist of a serving of almonds or some string cheese. I also typically have my carbs in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. Not sure if skipping breakfast is a good idea. Your body needs some energy to start the morning. I would be so hungry if I skipped breakfast it would most likely drive me to snack on something unhealthy. I would suggest to try your best to have something in the morning. Even if its some whole grain bread and some pre-boiled eggs

I just started the BFC yesterday and I am THRILLED with it so far. I'm not hungry and I don't feel deprived. That's HUGE for me.

I need to work on incorporating veggies into my plan and reducing cheese consumption a little. I need to get to the grocery store first so I can do that. LOL

B: 1 low carb tortilla w/1 egg, 1 egg white, 3 slices turkey bacon and about 1/8c of cheddar. Coffee with heavy cream and Truvia. 0/1

S1: Few pieces of shaved parmesan, 6 Cheez Its 0/0

L: Low carb tortilla, turkey, mayo, cheese 0/1

S2: Cheese stick, 27 Cheez Its. 0/1

D: Chicken, avocado 0/0

Dessert: 85% dark chocolate 11/2 (Yes, I had too much. LOL) :D

Wow 2inches from your waist that sounds great I wouldnt worry too much with what the scales say. Did you weigh yourself in the morning? I have noticed a 2-3lb fluctuation throughout the day sometimes so I just weigh myself in the morning. That seems to be the most accurate. Just my thoughts

Mother/son,
Pork and french fries,
fish and mash potatoes
This is eating contrary to any diet I have ever read about. It screams unhealthy....french fries...I don't think french fries should be on any of our eating schedules except for special occassions. Deep fried starch = fat and is cancer causing!
It seems like the common theme to target belly fat is 1) increase your metabolism with protein and vegetables, 2) exercise 3) decrease stress...because stress increases a hormone that promotes belly fat.

seems like the belly fat diet is telling people to eat what they want to here, not what is necessarily healthy. My goal is to get fit and healthy!

Hi

Numero1Latino - yes, I weight my in the a.m. before having anything to eat or drink & did diet for 1 complete week & that was my results. I did have some alcohol 2 times during that time so maybe the extra sugar was responsible for not dropping more. Anyway, at least I am heading in the right direction. Thanks for your reply

ALICE J:

Evidently you have not read the book or the diet. Please go to Jorge Cruise.com to read what the diet is about. I would never be so "full" of myself to comment on something before I read what it is about.

Yes, I eat pork chops, ground buffalo, chicken, duck, salmon, shellfish and a host of things.

Yes, I eat potatoes everyday..I actually love them. IF you had studied the program you would know what the diet was about. Also, french fries can be cooked a number of ways..and being the great cook that I am..I do yummy things with them ..Again, as I eat organic in my home..my potatoes are very nutritious and good.

In fact, one of the meals that Jorge talks about is going to McDonalds and having a quarter pounder with cheese (no bun), a small fry and a coffee with cream and Truvia..As I only eat organic meat, this has no appeal for me. But, for those who love McDonalds...ENJOY!

You are not my doctor or my hot, sexy hubby..So, there is no need for you to be concerned. Actually, my doctor, a HARVARD researcher and physician thinks the diet is great because he studies insulin resistance and the pitfalls of sugar, high fructose corn syrup and refined carbs...Oh, yeah, and Dr. Mehmet Oz did write one of the supporting forward sections to the book "The Belly Fat Cure".

I have not had refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup in almost 6 weeks. I am down 25 pounds and I look FIERCE. Instead of counting points or calories and loading up on fat free garbage that is souped up with carbs and sugar. I am eating in a way that has made my body a fat burning machine just as Jorge said it would. I am doing intermediate and advanced cross training exercises daily.... Something I could not do before when I was being "indoctrinated" with that idea that "FAT FREE" foods and counting points were the way to go...Puh-lease!!

Don't hate..Celebrate....and put something good on your plate that will help you lose weight!

Be blessed!

You are doing well. There are so many factors as to why people lose weight differently. Exercise has been a part of my plan since Day 1. Also, I am a Mesomorph/Hourglass and we tend to be soft and able to lose and gain weight and muscle quickly. By incorporating this diet with a lifestyle change of exercise and exercising for my body; I am doing the best for my particular body type.

Although Jorge says "NO exercise", I know me and I believe in working out and exercising. I am averaging 5 pounds a week loss with Cross Training, Aerobics, Resistance and Weightlifting.

I would just journal next week to pay attention to what you are eating and the week after that to compare and then "tweak" based upon which week you had the more successful loss and move forward.

I haven't lost anything since my first week, which was 6 lbs, and thats where I am still at...not sure whats going on, I like this diet, however I miss fruits and I used to eat a lot of vegetables now I find I'm only eating salads instead of cooked ones, which is fine but it does seem strange. Although I understand his process, I miss yogurt and simple things, ya know!? I'm hoping for a big loss next week, so we'll see! Good luck to me I guess! I'm splurging on Valentine's day though because my boyfriend made reservations at a fancy schmancy restaurant that is serving a 4 course meal...how can I say no? I can't and I really don't want too...its our first V-day together so I'd really like to enjoy it, someone tell me thats okay to do?

Have a great Valentine's Day with your boyfriend. I am sorry your weightloss has stalled. I tried WWs and Southbeach and neither worked for me, but this one works very well. Have you tried Soutbeach? It is another controlled carb program and it allows more fruits and milk/yogurt. It may be just the ticket for you. Not every diet works the same for everyone. I had NO success of WWs and I was always hungry. Southbeach just did work for me either, but I know one lady on another site I am on lost 65 pounds in 6 months with SOuth Beach and cross training/weight training and she looks FABULOUS!! I forgot her site, but I wil email it to you later. Like you, she likes a lot of fruit, veggies and dairy. Now she just basically eats clean and exercises an hour a day..

Remember the best diet is a healthy one you can stick with..There is not "right or wrong" just what is right for you!:smug:

I actually have the SB book here collecting dust ;) perhaps I'll have a look in it and see what its all about, I'm also going to see my nutritionist tomorrow so I'll mention that to her! When you get a hold of that ladies website, be sure to let me know! Don't get me wrong, I totally like the BFC, but I think for me its only good for 7 days - then I need to move on, it was just the boost I needed and I wanted to help my dad learn what it waslike to be me and dieting lol so that helped even more, he did good - lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks! (for a man who loves his sweets and desert). I eat pretty clean anyways, other than sugar free jello (aspartame). But I eat alot of ezekial products, fresh produce, and most of dressings and what not don't have any sugar in it. Although I won't be following the BFC to exact plan, I do plan on sticking with almond milk and keeping a close eye on my sugar intake! I'll have real milk in my coffee on my weigh in days for a treat!!

Girl, don't apologize! You have to do the best for you and when you reach your goal it will be "all good".

I am sending you the site in a Private Message.

BFC makes you think about so many things and I am like you, I LOVE Almond milk. Milk was making me fat..I will be honest. I noticed I was drinking 2% milk and that is when I started getting fat. I am done with cow milk...But, some women can lose weight with it. I read something about women over 35 and milk consumption can either make you gain or lose..It made me gain! :dizzy:

I am happy for you finding your own way and that is what it is all about!

My weight in yesterday had me losing only one more pound for a total of 12 pounds loss. However I weighed myself this morning and lost another 2 pounds. :carrot:

I know what happened that I didn't lose more. On Saturday my son was rushed to the hospital (he is fine- bad ski accident that could have resulted in a lot worse problems!) plus I have a sinus infection and both ears are infected so I wasn't feeling too great over the weekend. For two days I didn't stay under the 120 carb rule. I was too upset on Saturday and had a sub that day because I was too drained to cook something low carb and on Sunday it was Superbowl Sunday so I did have an ice cream sundae and a little bit more carbs than my usual daily amount. I think that's why I only lost the one pound for the week. Still- I can't complain as the scale is still heading down instead of up!

I hope everyone else is doing well!

Let's not forget the SODIUM that a lot of the fat free foods contain! The other day I was picking up more regular mayonaise and salad dressings. Out of curiosity I was reading the different labels from the fat free, light, and regular versions of each mayonaise and salad dressings. I was blown away by all the sodium in the fat free and light kinds. Not to mention some other chemicals that weren't added to the regular kinds that were in the fat free versions. Same with low fat and fat free cheeses- I couldn't get over the difference in sodium amounts of some of these items! No wonder the first week or so you lose a lot of weight in water. Just sticking to regular versions of these condiments cuts out a lot of sodium and keeps you much much fuller for longer! Oh and low fat margarine spreads? I suppose those are real healthy for you- NOT!!!!!!

One funny thing though- I am going to make a low carb cheesecake and I was checking out the carbs in the different brands of cream cheeses. To my shock- the 1/3 less fat Philadelphia cream cheese had less carbs in it than the full fat version! So guess which cream cheese I'm using in my cheesecake. Read labels folks!

Also- don't forget- some spices DO HAVE CARBS AND SUGAR!!!!!!! One tablespoon of onion powder has 5.6 grams of carbs and 2.4 grams of sugar! One tablespoon of garlic powder has 6.1 grams of carbs and 2 grams of sugar! I do use these frequently in the foods I enjoy on this diet but make sure that I include them in my carb/sugar count.

I also eat lots of beans. Tonight I am having ham and red kidney beans in a tomato sauce for dinner. Green beans, wax beans, white and red kidney beans are excellent low carb choices. I know that the white and red kidney beans are higher in carbs but they have no sugar and have a good amount of fiber in them to which Jorge encourages that we eat at least 25 grams of fiber a day. Mushrooms, lettuce, spinach and cucumbers are also low on the carbs and sugar counts. I try to get in a good amount of fiber everyday.

Now one trick that I usually follow everyday- I don't eat any carbs (or very very low carb veggies some days) for breakfast. I have chicken, ham, or egg salad or something like it for breakfast and eat until I am satisfied. For some reason I can not eat carbs first thing in the morning or I end up hungry before lunch time. I am ok the rest of the day with my other meals but for some reason I need as low carb as possible in the morning or no carbs at all to help keep the craving for food at bay the rest of the day.

That said- I've enjoyed many awesome foods with my lunch and dinner meals and am never hungry or starved. Now here is something even funnier- the other day I picked up First Magazine (I love that magazine!!!!). That's where I found out about this diet. Anyhow they had another diet in there this week stating what I've been doing for the most part- if I eat a higher carb sugar item I eat it with lots of protein and low carb veggies. Not sure why I started doing that but I figured I'd fill up on the protein and low carb veggies while eating my heavier carb items in the meal and lo and behold- this works! I even had two tablespoons of corn the other night with my sausage and gravy meal. I've had baked potatoes. I've had pizza. I am certainly not deprived of my carbs by any means but balancing them out seems to be the trick to which both Jorge and this article this week seems to preach.

As far as folks saying this diet isn't healthy- that's bunk. If you're a creative cook you will find ways to get your fiber in while enjoying your carbs. You can eat fruits and veggies on this diet as well as grains and such. Where are people getting that this diet is full of bad food it in? Because Jorge shows you WHICH foods you can have should you want them every so often?

I have one or two pieces of sugar free candies a day most days- my favorites are Sugar Free Whitman's coconut chocolate and Whitman's pecan and caramel bites. Last night I didn't because I had my low carb pancakes with Davinci Sugar Free Maple Syrup and bacon and eggs as my last meal of the day (to which I ate just before I went to bed after I had exercised a little bit) and didn't need to have one of those candies. Is this what folks are squawking about- someone having a treat or two here and there? Tell me what diet doesn't allow a treat or two? Even Atkins- once your past the induction stage allows some treats. Oh and I only allow myself those "sweet treats" if I do some exercise on those days. Good incentive to have something enjoyabale and to keep me active I say. If a piece or two of sugar free candy is going to do me in than what a **** of a way to go and where do I sign up?

Not sure if this has helped anyone or not but just wanted to give some tips and advice to those who are interested in seeing how others are doing this. Oh and you can have sugar free yogurt on this diet. I don't eat yogurt really but it is allowed on here so long as you keep within the carb/sugar limit.

Have a great day! Off to do some dishes and then some in home walking with Leslie! :carrot:

:carrot:

BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!:^: Couldn't have said it better myself..You are doing FANTASTIC!!! and you are giving people so much information.

It is funny, now that I am down almost 27 lbs, my "intuitive eating" is kicking in and your's already had. I am finding that I am "naturally" eating my carb meals for breakfast and lunch and at night, I don't want starchy carbs..So, I mainly do protein and usually salad and veggies. I need more energy during the day with work, getting kids from point a to b, doing homework with them ect..During the week, I do my workouts in the evenings and then I double up morning and evening on the weekends because I now have energy and no hunger.

I saw that FIRST article. It was "Robert Feguson's Food Lovers Diet". I did it for a week before Thanksgiving and yes, you will lose weight and it is about portion control, food combining and timed meals. NOw that you are "intuitvely doing it"; I am happy to see how successful you are!:carrot: It was hard eating every three hours for me because of my work..I am in a lot of meetings day in and out, but it would be interesting for people to take the BFC and try eating "every three hours" to just see what happens.

My cousin took the principles of the diet last week and did it by mainly cutting out sugar and taking the bread off of sandwiches. She lost 5 pounds. She said she could not believe it. She is a law student and she frequently grabs "fast food" and last week was no different. But, she said by paying attention to sugar and counting her carbs, when she stepped on the scale today she could not believe she was down five pounds. She said she was never hungry and she has been on and off Jenny Craig for years. She said she was ALWAYS starving on Jenny Craig, but this whole week she felt so good and energized and she is now committed to buying the book and getting as close to a sugar free lifestyle as possible. Like me, she loves juice and was drinking lots of it. So, I am happy for her.

As far as "rate" of weightloss, I am like you. I think unless you have "super" amounts of weight to lose, you can expect to lose between 2 and 5 pounds a week. I am averaging about 5 pounds a week or so and I exercise 30 minutes a day. The inches are phenomenal though!!

Did you see Carnie Wilson in People this week? Bless her heart! She talks about her struggle with weight and how she gained weight and gastic bypass, her husband and now trying to lose it with help from Drs Oz and his partner, Rosen. When I read the article and she talked about all of the kinds of food she likes to eat she mentioned, pasta, bread and she talks about her obsession with food. I have watched her show Unstapled and she seems to carry around so much pain. It is like a bad combination of her psychological issues and her love of carbs/sugar. I really, really like Carnie! I think she is FAB! I loved Wilson Phillips and she just seems like so many of us trying to figure it out. Also, there is a "side piece" in the story about people who gain weight back after Gastric Bypass. I have seen so many people gain it back. It must feel awful to go through the surgery and then gain it back.

Lastly, I went out with my hubby for an early Valentines and I had a small piece of corn bread. It had sugar in it and because I exercise, I thought it was "no big deal"... Let me tell you ladies, I was sick as a dog that night. My muscles were crampy, I was lethargic and I felt like "sh*t". It was the worst workout I had had in awhile. Lesson learned. I have no interest in EVER going back to sugar. There are too many alternatives out here to ever have to use that stuff...

Be blessed all!

I noticed my weight loss has begun to level off some. No thanks to me getting sick and not being able to work out. I hope that I feel better within the next few days. Even with Vday and the extra days off I haven’t really strayed much from the diet however it seems that working out helps me lose that little extra. The chocolate that I picked up from trader Joes helps me curve the sweet tooth however sometimes I forget I even have it. And I used to snack a ton on chocolates and cookies (cookies being my fav).

On a positive note it looks like my family and some friends are starting to notice a difference in my appearance. Let me tell you that it is such a great morale booster. I felt so happy when I got complimented. Made me want to go home and work out some more :D

I hope everyone else is doing well.

I've been MIA for a while but I was just going through the book for recipes and Googled Maltitol for the brownie recipe and the side effects of that are truly scary. Why would I want to put something in my body that's going to cause me to have intense stomach cramps, gas and bloating. I'm wondering if I could use Truvia as a substitue. Any thoughts?

I read that Malititol only caused those effects when taking it in large quantities. 100Grams plus if I am not mistaken. The chocolate that I purchased has about 9g per serving and I havent really had any side effects. I will do some more research however no gas or bloating as of yet.

It's a sugar alcohol and it does give me gas so I don't touch anything with that ingredient. However, it is not the same for everyone and I would not exactly call the side effects scary. Just don't have too much. Actually I would recommend you purchasing something with the ingredient to see how you would react to it first.

I did a google search on Malititol as well and did find some negative postings. Might have to dig deeper to see if its still worth consuming. Not a big deal overall I guess just enjoyed have a sweet snack sometimes. I can givie up if I need to...not after I finished what I purchased though :D

Looks like enough to make me give up the maltitol. Oh well it was fun while it lasted. I will stick with the Stevia and just not even mess with these sugar alcohols.

No wonder why I got hungry after eating two coconut sugar free candies after eating them. Geesh. Looks like Jorge goofed on this one BIG time! I'll be finishing those off soon and not purchasing them again in the near future. Glad you found that article and shared it with us.

Greetings!

I really think the issue is not the Maltitol, but what your trigger foods are. I am not a sweets junkie and actually forgot about the cheesecake in my fridge that I ordered and 3/4 of it went bad. It is sweetened with Maltitol. No matter what the dessert. It is not a trigger food for me. I get a "hankering" for chocolate around that time of the month or if I forget to take my prescription vitamin D supplement; I tend to crave dairy. But, sweets...not my thing.

Potatoes? That can sometimes be a "trigger food" for me. So, it becomes a choice to portion out my potatoes and being satisfied with a correct portion.

It is all relative. If eat soy, I get the diarrhea something awful..I get cramping..I get gas..My allergist has determined that I can have small amounts if fermented like a soy sauce, but tofu? FORGET about it! Fake meats and such? Forget about it. I have a friend who reacts horribly to Splenda and if you want to read a "horror show" about a sweetner, Splenda has plenty. This is posted by an Obg-YN who specializes in all things women health:

http://www.womentowomen.com/healthyweight/splenda.aspx

Another to Equal and one who cannot have sugar.

I have used Maltitol and I get no reaction whatsoever. When I had the cheesecake with Maltitol, I had a small piece with a few of the Joseph's oatmeal cookies (which are tiny by the way) and I waited for this stomach discomfort, pain, bloating gas...It never happened...Nothing! I had Imodium near my bed stand and nothing happened. So, the next time a cut a bigger piece of cheesecake and had 4 of those cookies...Again,nothing happened.

Also, I have one of the most sensitive stomachs you could know as I have endometriosis within the lining of my stomach/gut..So, I was expecting something horrible to happen..Nothing.

I think SOME people may think it is a "free for all" with "Sugar Free" products and overindulge in a "good thing". If sweets are a trigger food (and potatoes can be for me), you have to learn how to manage your hunger, portions and desire for that food.

How do you do this diet?

I see that you're supposed to stay under 6 grams of carbs and 15 grams of sugar each day- but then how did he eat pasta and bread in the same day in the infomercial? And how did someone earlier in this thread eat french fries for dinner?

Greetings:

You can literally eat anything you want but you have to know the carb and sugar content of that food and the portion that it corresponds to determine how much of that food you will eat. Right now I am looking at a can of soup here in my office.

On back where the Nutrition facts are it says, a "Serving Size" is 1 cup. It has 21 grams of carbs and 4 grams of sugar.

There for, if I have ONE CUP of the soup, I will have used 4 grams of sugar for the day and 21 grams of carbs which leaves me with 11 grams of sugar for the rest of the day and 99 grams of carbs.

If I go home and have Ore- Ida Fast Food fries. According to the nutrition information, a serving of Ore-Ida fries is 27 fries. I would count out 27 fries and know that 27 fries has 23 grams of carbs and less than 1 gram of sugar. So, I would subtract 23 grams of carb from the 99 carbs I have left. So, for the rest of the day I still have 76 carbs left...This is how the diet works...

Just to tack on to what SistaDiva said just to be clear its not 6 grams of Carbs its 6 serving where 1 serving = 20 grams of carbs. I cant always get to the 6 servings of carbs but try to hit atleast 3 or 4. I also take fiber supplments to augement that. Also I dont always hit the 15grams of sugar but I have started to eat a small piece of fruit (latey kiwi) so that I do get some sugar and its all natural. I think it averages about 6-8 grams for a serving.

On food trigger topic for me it wasnt food that triggered me to eat sweets or other junk food but more so certain times of the day. Evenings being the worst when I would watch some tv before bed and raid the kitchen for some milk and cookies or other snacks and eat before bedtime. I still get the urge sometimes but just drink a glass of water or eat that chocolate with the maltitol.(i guess not anymore)

My back has still been hurting over the snow :?: and have not been doing any work outs and my weight loss as completely flatlined. depressing :(
atleast it hasnt gone up

It is 6 servings of carbs not grams. A maximum total of 120 carbs per day is allowed. Oh and no more than 15 grams of sugar per day. It is preferable that you eat 5 grams or less per meal to prevent sugar spikes.

This is a very easy diet and very fulfilling however the wording of "lose up to 4-9 pounds a week" may have drawn people in expecting to lose that much every week. I haven't- my first week I lost 9 pounds, second week I lost two pounds, third week one pound and this past week which is my fourth week 3 pounds. I've lost 15 pounds this month. If I went by losing the minimum of 4 pounds a week by now I should have lost 16 pounds. Am I disappointed? Absolutely not! If I lose just one pound a week eating this way everyday I will not squabble! It might take me two years to get it off but that's A-0K with me as I sure as heck didn't get this big in one month now did I? None of us did. And just what is wrong with losing 1-2 pounds a week? That's a healthy weight loss and when you consider that you eat well on this diet and are never starving as compared to calorie counters who are hungry an hour after breakfast (sometimes sooner!) and extreme low carbers don't get to have any bread or sweets while on induction- I'll take this way of eating over the both of them hands down!

I am losing and I am FULL after every meal. I am NEVER deprived of anything. Some days I have a snack between meals and some days I don't. Still- with all that I eat at every meal (and I've eaten buckets full of food LOL) I cannot believe that I have lost 15 pounds eating great food and doing some light exercise.

Would folks rather go back to counting calories and starving themselves? Ok by me but I'll eat my fatty breakfast sandwich and my chocolate candy that I make and feel satisfied until lunch. Same with my other meals. I can't say enough about this diet but it may not be for everyone.

Ok, I got the book. Im a little confused as for the veggie carb counts. Now, I have a package of frozen green beans and looked at the serving which is 2/3 cup and has 5 grams of carbs. Do I count that as one carb serving? The book says that a serving for a carb is 5 to 20. Couldnt I eat more green beans and still be at 1 carb count?

And for old fashioned oatmeal, when cooked it comes out to 1 cup cooked, the package says its 27 grams carbs, so that would be 2 carb counts, correct?

I see that I am going to have a time with the carb allowances. I love my carbs. And perhaps a short struggle with fruit, as I love grapefruit.

I always thought that low starch veggies didnt make a difference. I mean how can ya get fat on broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini?

Thoughts anyone?

This is how I do it: I add up ALL of my carbs for the meal and go by that total. So in other words- if I have say low carb bread crumbs in my meatballs I add that to all the carbs I eat in my tomato sauce, as well as my salad items-lettuce, cucumber, peppers, salad dressing, any sweetener I used in my beverage if I use it, etc. From the total I get from my meal I figure out how many carb servings I've used. Often times my meals don't add up to a carb serving, sometimes they add up to two or three. Depends upon the meal.

I also keep a running total of my carbs for all day long. I add them all up and for the most part I am usually anywhere between 40-80 carbs a day. Some days it is higher or lower. I don't have a set menu and I eat a variety of foods daily.

Thats what I plan on doing. Counting grams throughout the day and see where I am. Tomorrow is going to be a learning experience.

I still dont see why we have to count non starchy veggies. Even WW has those as free.

Because this is all about carbs and sugar, and if they have carbs, you have to count them. Think of them as BFC points. LOL

I've had the same issue letting go of things that have been ingrained in me from years of dieting. "Regular cheese is a NO-NO". (It's not.) "I can't eat BACON. Are you crazy?" (I can.) "Low fat dressing is better for my waistline than regular." (NOPE.)

Gotta let go.

If I go overboard on either sugars or carbs, which one would be the worst of the two? I think I'll be able to keep the carbs in check, Im worried about the sugars. I like fruit.

Hey, I like the idea of BFC points.

Also, we can eat any foods as long as we stay within the 15/6? I really dont want to go out and buy foods that cost too much. I need to use what I have. I wonder why there arent any soups in his book. I like soups.

How simple are you keeping to the plan, what sort of meals are you having.

In his book he says to count the carbs in each meal and not to go over 6 servings.
under 5 grams = 0 servings
5 - 20 grams = 1 serving
21 - 40 grams = 2 servings
41 - 60 grams = 3 servings

He goes on to say if your total breakfast is 10 grams of carbs that counts as 1 serving. So, 120 grams is the max you have but you are supposed to count each meal and snack and not go over 6 servings. Takes a while to get used to that part. This morning I had 2 eggs and a tortilla for breakfast which was 10 grams of carbs so it counted as one serving. Hope this makes sense

I am really thinking of starting the belly fat cure. Low carb has worked for me in the past, but I always had an issue with eating NO carbs on atkins, and it seemed that I wasn't eating healthily on it. (i know all of the atkins fans will jump on me for saying that, but I'm not saying that Atkins isn't healthy, I'm saying the way I ate in order to stay low carb on atkins wasn't healthy.)

This low carb diet seems more managable, because I can eat good carbs like some lower sugar fruits for some carbs, and veggies and such.

I guess my question is this: can anyone who is on this diet give me a few main pointers, and an overview of how your experience is going on it?

For example: what are your food staples? do you also exercise, and if so, what do you do for exercise? how much weight have you lost on average per week, and what things did you do right on the weeks where you lost the most? Any other tid bits would be fantastic, as well.

I am very interested in this diet and would love to know how you guys are getting your veggies in since I am finding so much sugar. For example, 1c green beans has 4g sugar which I think is high. Fruit is probably going to be really difficult to do since it is sky high in sugar. Unfortunately I love fruit. Any suggestions on low sugar fruit and veggies that I can work into this plan?

I too love fruit, especially apples and grapefruit. I have several grapefruits I want to use up before doing this plan. I hate to throw them out. With the cost of food, dont want to waste. Ive waited this long for the belly to go away, guess a couple more days wont hurt.

As for low sugar veggies, spinach is good. As is romaine lettuce.

I also noticed that brussel sprouts had sugar in them and celery. How can that be????

When I start the plan I hope to be more helpful to ones.

I think in terms of low sugar fruit you have to stick with berries. In one of the Jorge Cruise videos he recommends Blackberries. Also raspberries and cranberries should be low in sugar. I picked up some Blackberries but are a bit pricey here during the winter for a small package. I wasnt a huge fruit eater before so I cant say I miss it that much.

I would recommend not starting the diet until you eat up those things you purchased. It does not make sense to waste food in these hard times. In the book, you get the S/C value of foods. Just "budget" those things and you can still have anything. If I want banana in my shake, I cut a thin slice or two and add it to my protein shake. I hardly ever eat sugar these days, but I had a bite of red velvet cake over the weekend for a celebration and I did not want to offend anyone. First, it tasted awful. If it had been a GREAT Red Velvet cake, I would have had a second bite, but trust me, one was enough.

I am in my 7th week on this diet and certain things just do not appeal to me anymore and I think many of you will find this to happen the longer you do it. I keep Truvia in my purse at all times. When there are no diet options like unsweetened ice tea; I just drink water. I am never "tempted" to go outside this way of eating. Also, I have noticed that my "tongue/stomach/mouth can gage when I have had a enough carbs at a meal. Things are becoming much more intuitive with eating.

I am now into building "muscle" and I expect my weightloss will slow down to about 2 pounds a week which is fine because my goal is overall health, strength, flexibility and toning up the body. Losing 27 pounds has been basically a painless journey in 6.5 weeks. The first two weeks were the hardest because I was exercising and changing my eating at the same time.

If I may ask, how heavy are you guys here that a loss shows so much? I have around 20-25 pounds that Id like to get rid of.

I suppose each person is different in how fast it comes off.

I suppose each person is different in how fast it comes off.

In the book, George has a chart detailing how much a person can lose per week depending on how much weight they want to lose.

I HAD 75 pounds to lose. Now it is 47.5, so I expect my weightloss to be around 3 pounds a week.

But I am also weight training and cross training iel; building muscle. So, that will affect my weightloss in the short term.

Oh! I am totally thrilled with what I have loss so far, although I think the weight loss is mostly from doing the elliptical 3-4 times a week... I mean I have cut way down on sugar...but now that I am using the formula from Jorge...I am hoping the fat melts even a little quicker... ;)

Hi Jenny G, sorry I didn't respond earlier. I live in Ontario. I probably have more at my disposal than you do living in PEI, but I think it will still be challenging.

Did any of you sign up for the BFC diet for Women over 40? According to his video it will work for women under 40 as well, but it is specifically made to help us with those dreaded hormones that are going crazy at this age. He also did a phone interview with Dr. Christine Northrup. She said that the BFC diet is what has allowed her to maintain her diet. She highly recommends it. I love her - that alone was enough for me to sign on. I'm a little nervous about not being allowed to eat a lot of fruit. I love fruit !

The diet is starting on Monday March 1st and runs for 6 weeks. You can buy two plans. One only contains the daily menu's and the other has the complete online support (at a cost of course). Unfortunately, because I only have 19 posts, I can't attach the link to the diet, but it is on the Jorge Cruise site.

The shopping lists for the menus are being sent out on Friday 26Feb10 to allow you to get ready for the Monday start. Unfortunately we're going to be away all weekend, so I'm not going to be able to do any shopping ahead of time. It may mean a late start to the diet, but it is better than not starting at all.

According to the video, the menus won't contain any speciality foods. It is supposed to be made up of items you can buy from any grocery store.

I have been so scared of starting yet another diet (and fail) that I put off starting. When I saw the over 40 one, I figured that it was now or never and signed up.

All of you guys are such an inspiration ... I hope I can be as successful. :)

Hi girls - I'm in Canada too - BC to be exact!

don't know if you have Astro products out your way - but Astro makes a Balkan yogurt that is only 3 sugars per 1/2 cup!! so that is a low one if your interested!

time2bme - did you make it into Jorge's program? I had wanted to sign up for the menu's but wouldn't you know it my computer crashed thursday night and by the time I was able to log in again on Monday it was all full! I'd love to take a peak at some of your menus when you get them - if you don't mind sharing!?

I'll keep posting any good products that I find out west.....

Hello everyone. I bought both the 3hr diet and the Belly Fat Cure. He has contradicted himself by saying low carb diets dont work, but in the Belly Fat Cure, it is a low carb diet (I think it is a modified Atkins). I also notice in the 3hr Diet he said splenda was ok to use, now in the Belly Fat Cure, he says no. I still believe in true weight loss in counting calories. I have been more aware of labels and try to eat high fiber/protein foods and watch my sugar intake. It is an ok plan, but I feel in another 2-3years he will come out with another book rebutting what he wrote in these two book. I have lost 14lbs since 1/1/10, but first counting my calories (around 1800) a day, six meals (3 meals and 3 snacks). So as far as this diet the Belly Fat Cure, I am not impressed, but it does seem to work for other...Good Luck to you all.

Hi!

He addresses that in the book as well as on his website. He says he likes to keep current and read upon health and nutrition. He cites numerous studies about how he came up with this approach.

Weight Watchers has changed its approach several times and I always find it amusing when someone says, "WWs works! I have been on it several times! *lol* Atkins has different versions. South Beach has been revised. There are several different ways to do Gastric Bypass..Change is inevitable with any diet over time.

Not every diet is for everybody. Counting points or calories never worked for me. It was not calories that was the problem for me or my son. SUGAR is not a food group in my book and by restriction, I have found what works.

No one diet is going to fit everyone's needs. It is best to figure out what works for you and celebrate those who try a different approach. If counting calories works for you..continued success!!

Hi VQ:

Have you gotten the book yet? He gives you a way to handle constipation. There is a specific regimen in the book. Neither my son, nor myself have experienced constipation. In fact, we go several times a day. Are you eating fiber rich bread products? Are you drinking 8+ glasses of water a day..Are you exercising?

I go two or three times a day without the regimen he prescribed. If you are getting enough fiber and drinking enough water, you should not have any problems.

I haven't gotten it yet, Sista! I have a BN gift card, I just gotta get over there and do it. I was gonna buy it on my kindle, it's available for 10$, but the book looks so nice with the binding and color pages- I gotta buy it for real!

I'm so excited to weigh in on friday! I've already lost 1 pound since last friday, and I didn't really start the diet until monday...in fact I probably gained a pound over the weekend before starting, so that would make it 2 pounds I've lost...I'm excited to see where I'm at on friday! I haven't even really been tempted to cheat. I got some low sugar candy but I've been pretty in control even with that. I hope it stays this easy! In fact, once I get some ideas from the book, it might get easier!

The only thing I worry about is my trip to florida. Not only will it be easy to want to cheat, but it will be hard to know what's good and bad for me to eat because I'm sure none of the restaurants in disney will have nutrition...I'm just gonna go with my instincts and eat NO carbs as snacks.

Yes, there are menus in the book, along with recipes.

I dont follow the menus. I just eat what I have on hand and count the SC's.

Boy, but I tell ya today, Im am hungry. I did ok yesterday, was content with my meals.

I used egg beaters this morning instead of real eggs, I think that may have been the problem, not too many calories in those. I also had some sauted zuchini, potatoes, and one slice of toast. I could have eaten more, but didnt.

The soup I made was lentil soup. In reading over in the book 1/2 c lentils is 2/1. So, instead of me having one c. of soup, I had to settle for 1/2 c. Needless to say, still hungry, had a salad, not full yet, then made a couple eggs with half a whole grain bun. Few walnuts.

I just cant get over that sugar is in just about everything. I have no clue what I will eat tonight.

Even apple cider vinegar has suagr. :(

Don't be afraid when you go to Florida. I just had lunch and had mac and cheese, meatballs and chicken fingers. It was a quarter cup of the mac and cheese and 2 meatballs and 2 chicken fingers which were cooked with a "soy" flour coating ( I keep benadryl with me at all times since I have a sensitivity to soy). In any case, it was 28 grams of carbs. No big deal.

When you eat out down in Florida, just remove 1/2 or a quarter of any "fast carb" you would find in a sandwich, toast whatever. If I am eating out, I generally will NOT have the bun, bread or wrap and just the potatoes with a sandwich. If it looks like a HUGE portion, I cut it in half or I leave a quarter of it on my plate. Keep Truvia with you at all times in your purse. If your only option at restuarant is a "diet soda". Have it, but drink 2 glasses of water for every one glass of diet soda. Again, not being a "sweets" person. I would only suggest that you have no more than two bites of something sweet and/or share a small dessert with someone. These are "food management skills". So, maybe in Florida you are "not perfect" but you are learning tricks to maintain whatever weightloss you have. You are learning how to live in the REAL WORLD..Once you get back home, just go back to being strict about the diet.

I am basically like Cookinmary. I eat whatever is in my fridge/pantry and just count S/C value. I don't count calories in any shape form or fashion. This diet is all about S/C values and satiety.

I work at an educational institution and I have a teenager and a kid. Mornings I am usually making them breakfast and my hubby. I cook bacon 2 or 3 times a week. So, I will usually have bacon and eggs and sometimes an 8th cup of refriend beans, and HOT salsa to go with the eggs and a slice of Carb Style /Pepperidge Farms bread.

Sometimes it is a protein shake with Almond milk. The Jay Robb protein powders are great.

Lunch lately has been friend chicken wings (no breading), fries and celery and sugar free blue cheese dressing. I also have ham or turkey or tuna sandwiches with a pickle and Zevia soda

Dinner tonight is Burgers and fries. Last night it was roast chicken, salad, and brown rice. The night before that it was buffalo chili and baked potatoes.

Funny you bring this up I was thinking about this the other Day. Is BFC really a low carb diet? Jorge recommends 120grams of carbs each day. I believe the average minimum is about 180. On the other hand Atkins starts you off at 20grams of carbs and increases it from 5 to 10 grams as you start to lose weight. Only reason I think about this was because this diet was in the reduced carb diet section. Either way I think this diet or perhaps any other I would have followed would have helped me eat much better. What drew me to this one was the decrease in sugar intake and I had a bit of a sweet tooth so I decided to follow. Lost close to 20lbs already but these darn last 10 are just not falling off as quickly as I wanted to. Perhaps since I started working out...maybe I am packing on muscle. :D

Well, Ive been eating cheese. I had some yesterday and I dont know if it was the cheese or the fat Im not use to, I was in the bathroom a couple times and even today, I had to go rather quickly.

Does anyone else find they have trouble with cheese?

By no means am I constipated. LOL

BTW I finally got full. Been exercising, maybe thats why I was more hungry today.

I too have wondered how this works, when people who stay on only 20 grams of carbs a day. I have no idea how they do it. And they lose weight then, if they increase they gain. Also read that eating cheese stalls alot of people. And we can eat cheese on this. :carrot: Just had to throw that guy in there.

I'm glad you saw the message about the over 40 diet being opened up again. I was just about to post that it had been. I sort of wish I had waited. It says they had different payment plans available now ... I wish that would have been an option when I paid.

Oh well, I am glad to be signed up ... and a little nervous. I spoke to hubby about the menus that would be available. He is very keen to do it with me. That will make it easier. I wish we weren't going away this wekeend though. I'm not going to be able to get my shopping done ahead of time for the Monday start. We won't be back until late Sunday night and I'll be coming home to an empty fridge. :( Oh well ... I'll do what I can - anything will be better than what I have been doing!!

Also, I sorta answered my own question about sugar free candies and atkins bars...they all contain either maltitol or sucralose which are no nos according to Jorge...BUT, I might just see if I still lose weight with having a little piece of sugar free chocolate now and then. I found Clemmy's at a grocery called Kings.

The Atkins shake looks like 1g sugar. I thought it had an artificial sweetner but looks like just 1g sugar so I think it's ok if you want to use it on this plan. This was for the chocolate shake.

The chocolate Atkins shakes are pretty good. They satisfy any chocolate urge I might have and I think of them as a milkshake. There is fiber in them, I think at least 2 or 3 g. (don't have one in front of me right now). I find them filling and sometimes split it up and have half in the afternoon and half at night.

I think Sams club, Costco, those type of places have them sometimes.

Speaking of fiber and chocolate, I know Ghirardelli chocolate (dark) has about 5g fiber in a serving, although if I eat it, I cut back the serving to one square.

Cool..there's an AWESOME chocolate bar, the Lindt dark chocolate with sea salt bar. They list a serving size as 4 squares, but they are huge squares- 4 squares is like half of the bar- so i just eat one and it's only 6 sugar grams. It is my favorite chocolate bar ever, even before I was on BFC. Don't know about fiber though. It's not an 85% I think it's like a 70 or something. Still, one good sized square for 6 grams isn't so bad.

Congrats on the success! doesn't it feel so great? I hope to be following in your footsteps very soon. Did some of my shopping (going to a specialty store this weekend to hopefully find the things I couldn't at my local grocer) already and started off the day well. Although I was runnign a bit late this morning and I think that with the stuff I threw together, I will actually be well below the 15/6 today. Gonna try not to make it a habit to short myself like that, but I'd rather be under than over.

I was thinking the same thing as far as starting up a blog. Please let me know if you do and where to find it.

Best of luck for continued success! Can't wait to talk more :)

Anyone that is doing this - which plan are you doing. I can't decide - I like the dinners for ultimate and classic but would like an occasionally glass of wine. Wish we could mix and match. Use plan for ultimate for a few days and then mix in an indulgent to get my glass of wine and chocolate.

So I came home for the weekend- I've realized it's going to be hard to stay on track on the weekends! We'll see what happens.

Friday, I did alright, except I know I went over in my sugars, not sure how much.
Today, same thing. I'm under my carbs for the day, but over in sugar, as I had a couple samples of some baked goods my stepmom made.

I wonder what the effect will be. If I did well all week, and slipped up a little on sugars this weekend. I hope to have a clean day tomorrow.

I bought some almond milk today, but I couldn't find the unsweetened. Anyone else have that problem? I just bought the original, which has the least sugar and carbs- 7 grams sugar, 8 carbs. I am hoping I can find some sugar free chocolate syrup to add to it, or to just use it in my cereal and find the unsweetened version of the chocolate. Any suggestions?

I did the same thing - I found almond breeze and didn't notice that is was sweetened not unsweetened. Look on online and find stores in your area that carry it. I ended up giving the milk away and bought some unsweetened. The vanilla one I bought had 16 grams of sugar.

Live and learn - read labels. I am not a big milk drinker anyway - just occasional cereal and I don't drink coffee but it made me mad as this was day one on the new way of eating.

Baby steps - still lost the first week.

I stayed on the plan as far as I can tell - I'm following the book.

Still no real appetite, which is a bit of a problem when it comes to getting enough calories. I did eat bacon today though, which is full of calories, LOL so I should be set for the week.

I haven't weighed myself but I think I look like some weight came off my "belly" and my face.

Hi everyone! Been reading this thread for a bit. My book is on the way and I can't wait to start it. I've been on Jorge's site and watched a few videos. Like most of you said, it's amazing how much sugar is in food today. I have always been a carb & sugar junkie. I've been consistently exercising for about 8 years and I lost a little weight at first. But then I fell into the trap of eating more and more highly processed foods, not watching my carbs and overloading on sugar. I maintained my weight for about 5 years through exercise but I feel like it was a waste of energy and time. I'm glad I kept it off but, boy I could have used the BFC years ago.

Since the beginning of the year, I've been doing better. Cut back on the processed foods drastically and have been eating more fruits and veggies. However, this was due to my severe acid reflux, with which I continue to have problems. A few days ago I started to really cut my carbs (down to around 32g a day) but I can't keep that up.

Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations for someone suffering from acid reflux? I take medication but having problems right now So I need to stay away from tomatoes, chocolate and other problem foods. I can't tolerate broccoli and cauliflower right now as it gives me too much gas and reflux. No cruciferous veggies at all, really. Any thoughts or should I just wait for the book?

Your carbs are too low - the plan calls for up to 6 servings (of 20 carbs - so up to 120 carbs -).In my mind this is why this plan can be a lifetime change and not a diet. Not sure if this will help your hearburn. I have been taking an over the counter drug for this and am ready to try and go without. I don't have the heartburn or reflux that I was was having even with the drugs before the change in eating plans.

Maybe list what you are eating and see if others have ideas.

Thanks for the reply. I am upping my carb intake because I was too low...not what I wanted. I figured there had to be a middle ground and BFC is it. While I'm waiting for my book I'm going to stay at a max 15g sugar, 120g carb. I can really live with that. It's a little too early to post anything because I'm in the middle of switching eating plans.

Am I understanding you correctly? Did you have heartburn before changing your eating plan and now you have less (or any) heartburn? I'm just hoping that this works for me.
Thanks.

I never get heartburn but I noticed I did have quite a few episodes since going low carb. I would recommend not eating any trigger foods at night, always try to get up and move around after a meal, and increase your carbs. I'm pretty certain there is a lc connection in my case. I'd try to get in some food of more substance, like a whole grain bread or whole grain pasta more often. I think of it as a buffer. Hope this helps.

I've read the whole thread and I am waiting for the book to come in the mail but I have a few questions.

Do any of you count calories? I started doing my own low carb thing 4 days ago before switching to BFC. I've been struggling to get enough calories. I'm not hungry because of all the protein. But I worry about not getting enough calories. I've been counting calories for years (just not the right ones), so this concerns me.

My meals the past few days have gone something like this:

B 2 eggs with cheese and meat
S nuts or cheese
L Meat with veggies
S nuts or cheese
D Meat or seafood with veggies

I hadn't been eating any fruit or bread and I struggled to reach 1200 calories (again because I've been doing it for years)

Does the book mention anything about high fat? Do you worry about how much fat you're eating? I love nuts, seeds, cheese but am trying to control how much of them I eat because of the fat. I can't seem to get the calories in without going over the 15g sugar. I really wish more fruit was allowed. I am restricted with food because of my reflux problems right now so this is a little difficult.

Can you eat frozen meals like Lean Cuisine or Smart Ones on this?

The primary reason I started this way of eating is because I have severe reflux. I am looking for some way of keeping it under control without relying on meds, which I've taken for about 10 years. I would like to lose 20 lbs also. I was a carb junkie for a long, long time and I too didn't realize how much sugar is in food. I am really looking forward to ridding myself of the sugar cravings for good. Actually, I think it has started already.:D

No - do not count calories and do not eat the diet frozen meals - look at the cargs and sugars only. Usually the diet meals replace fat with sugar.

Jorge lists several different Lean Cuisine meals in the "Quick and Easy" one week menu on pages 32 and 33 in the BFC. Just make sure that the S/c value is 5/2 or less.

Greetings!

I have been on the BFC for 8 weeks and I am down 28.9 pounds. I am on my cycle this week, so this is really at the 7.5 week mark. In any case, looking at your diet, you are basically doing something along the lines of Atkins/Atkins Induction phase. This is NOT what BFC is about on any level. BFC is a "controlled carb" and low sugar program. Potatoes, rice, bread, tortillas wraps, pasta, ice cream are not verbotten! He encourages you to eat well and balanced. He encourages you to stay away from certain artificial sweeteners and use natural sweeteners like Truvia Stevia. He give you options if you are a "meat lover, fish lover, sweet lover" or if you are a woman over 40.

It is so important to get the book. The book gives you recipes and options. It is truly a way of life and I don't think about food in the way I used to. I just love the results. I don't mainline protein either. I eat a moderate amount of protein..I eat approved sweets here and there and they are GOOD!!

The only way I differ from Jorge is that I exercise 7 to 8 times a week at about 30 to 45 minutes max. I interval train and cross train as I believe exercise is a lifestyle as well. To be sedentary is lazy and not using your body to reach it's personal best. For me, it is not just about being "skinny". It is about having a healthy, strong and flexible body.

Good luck!

Just thought I would post a short update on my status. Some good some bad. This weekend we had a family gathering and a relative that has not seen me in a few months was literally amazed at how much weight I had lost and how I looked. I felt really good with the compliments that came with it. I briefed him in short (because I was with the kids) with what I have been doing. I did start to think later "Wow was really that big..LOL" I guess so.

On the other front I broke the diet I would say for the first time since being on it. The wife and I went out to dinner and I was going to select my typically healthy meal when she said "honey you should get whatever you want, I think you deserve it". I thought to myself she was right. I ordered a rack of ribs (my favorite) but of course it was covered in BBQ sauce. Who knows how much sugar was on it but I sure did enjoy it. I had a side of broccoli with it instead of the fries (not a huge fry fan anyway). I haven’t felt that full in a while. I wouldn’t say I felt bad physically but definitely full and worse of all a little bit guilty...but I am over it now.

I also wanted to add to what sistadiva said that working out if definitely something you want to start doing at some point. It keeps the heart and other body parts healthy. I have been sticking with the INSANITY (thanks Sistadiva) and have been enjoying it a great deal. It doesn’t feel as long as other work outs that I have done.

Hope everyone else is doing well. I am 7lbs away from my target weight. Clothes are fitting nicely and I am feeling great.

Cindy - I'm also having trouble picking a menu - like you I'd like to have the option to have chocolate/wine maybe one or two nights - but not every night!! In the end for this week I decided to do the "ultimate" menu.

What did you girls decide on?

Sounds like everyone is staying pretty positive so far and doing well! Congrats verybody...becareful of sabatogers though...FOOD and PEOPLE!

I have enjoyed this past week. This is the first week I truly used the 15/6 model. I lost 2 pounds. Was hoping for more, but I believe my strength training AND eating processed meals, even though they fell in with the 15/6 guidelines prohibited the 4-9 pound promise. ( I was on my P. too... So with all of that 2 pounds is really good I believe... ;D)

Even though I have been working in lots of fiber and drinking lots of water, I am having a problem passing...any suggestions?

Have a great week everyone!

Hey Numero Uno!!

Life happens and it is not the end of the world! You had some ribs with regular BBQ sauce and a side of broc. Before BFC, you may have gone with loaded mashed potatoes, 6 rolls and a dessert with ice cream. But, you got what you wanted. Had it and you moved on.

Have you ever been able to do that with a way of eating?

Something tells me that you have developed some great "real life" skills with how you eat. :carrot:

That is GREAT!!! So, you are on program and doing your thing.

Yes, working out is a lifestyle for me. I have NEVER been able to have a good diet and working out at the same time. It was either one or the other. With BFC, I have a lot of energy and working out is truly a habit.

I don't know if you caught Richard Simmons on QVC this weekend, but I have to give that man a standing ovation. He has helped SOOOO many severely obese people lose weight. As crazy and over the top as he is; he is so committed to get people moving. IF some 400 pound person can get up and do 15 minutes of sweating to the oldies, all of us on here should do something good for our bodies and begin a workout plan that you can do for the rest of your life.

Good health is a blessing..taking care of the body you got should just compel us all to be more fit. No matter if you had a good week, bad week or slipped up..Whatever, getting out and moving is something that should be second nature like breathing.

You like INSANITY? It looks GREAT! I just bought 3 Patrick Goudeau videos. He is TOUGH but funny, entertaining and I have worked muscles that I have not worked in 20 years!!

A lot of people are having great success with P90 X...

I am unsure whether I should count sugar if it's .5. Today I had something that was 1.5 total in sugar and I guess I should count it as 2 sugars? Is that right? If an item is only half a gram should I NOT count that? I'm sure this is easier than I am making it out to be but I got myself confused and don't want to make a mistake.

I count it as exactly as it is. If it is 1.5 grams then it is 1.5 grams.

I was off plan last week due to family emergency. I was out of state and the people I stayed with are EXTREMELY picky eaters and carb lovers to boot. I did keep them kind of low but without all of my stuff handy and using someone else's kitchen I felt kind of guilty just cooking for me and not them. I did gain a couple of pounds back but lost 3 of the four in two days- since I started this back up again.

Some of it I think was too much salt as well. I eat low sodium on this plan and they had all salty stuff at the house. I also didn't get to exercise between visiting my aunt several times over the course of the week and visiting with family and friends when I wasn't busy with my aunt. Just glad to be back on plan- I really missed the way that I was eating and plan to continue doing so from now and on because I didn't feel so well after having too many carbs several days in a row.

Next time I go down there I will just cook for myself and if they don't like it they can order out. They don't cook themselves when I'm not there so I don't know why I felt obliged to take care of them meal wise as it caused me more stress knowing I wasn't eating the way I should be. Lesson learned and never again!

I am counting just as you said 1.5 is 1.5 and I'm not counting anything that is .5 or less sugar. I had to go back and take a second look at the book. Off to find Clemmy's ice cream. My breyers has 5 grams sugar and that is too much.

I've been slowly losing weight [by hook or by crook], but nothing has happened much with the roll of fat around my middle. I started at a weight of 152 lbs a long while ago and thought I'd look great at 128lbs. My face looks much older  but the roll is still there with a vengeance!

Of course, I'm 52 years old and know that's an issue. That's why I tried the "Flat Belly Diet" --the Prevention book, when it came out a while back. It really didn't help and I wasn't very good at it, but it didn't really emphasize carbs and sugar like this thread seems to do.

So I ordered the book and have been doing the 10 Weeks to a Hollywood Body workout for the last week or so.

I've got to go look up a few carb counts for the food I'm eating until the book comes.

Best of luck to all!

Hi all!

I am joining this thread because I started the BFC about a week ago and have only lost a moderate amount of weight. Disappointed, yes, but love the program and it just seems to make sense. I also have recruited the kids and hubby to do this along with me - none of which are overweight but who can't benefit from less sugar in their diet. Have many questions and would love a buddy if anyone is interested. I am soooo excited! Good luck to all!

I have been on the diet for a bit but still cant lose the love handles. I think its going to take some extreme working out including cardio and weight lifting to suck the rest of the fat up but so far I am happy where am I at. I found some pics before I started the diet and put it up against one that was taken afterwards and its a huge difference. I was shocked to see it when I put it side by side. Dont they have some body wraps that are supposed to burn fat from your midsection. Dont have high confidence that it would work but it would be something I would consider trying

Does everyone else's weight tend to fluctuate so much on this diet? I am hoping that it is just because it's night time and I ate pretty late... boy will I be mad if I just lose the same 2.5 pounds again this week!

I have been doing BFC since 1/4/10 and my weight fluctuates like CRAZY, well it only fluctuates in one direction: UP. Like easily 3 pounds overnight.... I keep losing and gaining the same 2-3 lbs., though I am down 12 on a good day.

At first, my belly because REALLY flat but the flab looks like it is coming back a bit. I am going to try the psyllium (sp?) husks as I'm not as regular as Jorge says you should be.

Greetings!

My weight has never fluctuated on this diet, and this is the second time I have been on my monthly cycle since I started the program. I think a large part of why is because I exercise. During the week it is about 30 minutes on average. Again, this is where Jorge and I differ. I think you need to exercise no matter what program you are on.

Last night, I had Kobe beef hot dogs and mashed potatoes for dinner.

A pulled pork sandwich with fries for lunch

Greens

and a protein shake for breakfast. I had a few Joseph's Sugar Free chocolate chip cookies for dessert.

I also did Patrick Goudeau's, "Play Ball" Here is a link:
http://www.collagevideo.com/workout-video/patrick-goudeaus-play-ball-5584

Jorge has sent out emails to people talking about exercise and I think he is going to revise his stance on that. Even in the book, he talks about exercise towards the end of the book.

Your weight flunctuates throughout the day. Its normal. Always weigh yourself in the morning and just once for the day. I got in the bad habit of doing it multiple times a day just to see it go up and down. Really should be doing it once a week or something but I get anxious to check.

Check out this info I found on Google Answers. Explains why your weight changes around throughout the day.

Just from watching the online videos, I'm not sure if there's any emphasis on calorie count at all. Seems like I could waaay overdo on my intake with some of the meals I saw. I wonder if that's a possible sabotage to the diet?

Also, no way am I not going to exercise--I feel too rotten without it.

Book still hasn't arrived yet, but I'm starting to read more labels and am amazed at the sugar content of ordinary things I didn't realize contain sugar!

You'd think I'd be hip to this since my husband is a diabetic...

I weigh myself at the exact same time each morning, wearing the exact same articles of clothing.

I was so psyched to find Joseph's Sugar Free Cookies at my local chain grocery store (Lucky Supermarket)! They only had the oatmeal flavor and it was almost $7 for the little bag but I figured I'd give them a try. I was so disappointed! Maybe the other flavors are better? The oatmeal ones were so dry and hard and crunchy. The flavor was terrible, so bland, no sweetness or yumminess. Wah. And 15g of carbs for 4 teeny tiny cookies. I mean TEENY TINY!!!

I like the Murray's brand ones, but they're made with splenda which is a no no...except I've been still using it and losing weight...I don't have any beef with splenda so unless it starts to be a problem I'm going to continue to use it.

I had bacon yesterday....the scale went up a few pounds. I'm guessing water retention. :(

Is anyone using all bran on this diet? I know it's on the belly bad side but I really need to eat this for the fiber. I haven't even checked the carb count but it seems to me I saw it pictured as a "bad" food. I think I'm struggling with cereals that won't use up a ton of sugar and carbs when the milk is added. I also use calorie countdown milk to lower the counts.

I like the Murray ones as well. I use Splenda all the time and I am not so willing to give it up...yet! Gotta have my Diet Dr. Pepper ya know?! :)

I have bought some Stevia and i use that in my coffee, tea, etc but I also still use some prodcts that are artificially sweetned with Splenda.

I just wanted to say Clemmy's ice cream is absolutely delicious if you want a treat and it's high fiber as well.

Unfortunately my store is no longer going to carry it but if you can get it definitely try it.

Same here, Todd'sWife! I haven't experienced any problems with it and it seems to me there are decent arguments for both sides of the debate...
