Hi Cajun,

It is all so related. I would take 1 sleeping pill & wake up in a couple of hours. Then, I would get up and have sweets. Then, of course, I could not get back to sleep without more sleeping pills.

I absolutely agree a better diet will help and we can do this!

Hola, Goldens!

GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS today! The sky is deep blue and cloudless... 33 degrees, and everything is melting!

I've thought the posts the last couple of days very interesting. It seems we all have our own specific areas of concern, yet we're all in the same boat! CK and I made a pact to tell each other our daily weights, and this is a big help in watching what is stuffed down the gullet. I don't like admitting when I've slipped! I, as is usual, had some significant "loss" the first few days, but that's over now.... and reality is settling in. I don't like it, either! As she says, a couple of pounds a week of real loss is just fine! I wanted the 1# per day to be real!

Lynn and Cajun - if I eat too many carbs, my sleep patterns are way messed up... nasty dreams, broken rest, not good sleep at all. Since I'm back on SparkPeople for each meal, my carb load is less, and I'm sleeping so much better.

We all know what to do and how to do it. It's just a matter of DOING it! I'm finding our recent posts very helpful and motivating! Thanks!

Sparkle - if you subscribe to the thread (middle right hand corner, under "thread tools"), you can find us by going to your User CP (at the VERY top left) and your subscribed threads will be listed. You can also search "January Golden Girls" and should be able to find us.

Later, lovelies!

Hi Donna,

Over the years it seems to me that we all get much more introspective after the winter holidays.

Good Afternoon-- it is COLD!!

Sparkle--glad that you found us and it will get easier to find what you are looking for the longer you are around. Like Donna said, if you go to the top of the page you can save these threads for easier finding.

Mary-- glad your DH is home and hope he continues to feel better.

Rosey-- your temps in Alaska have been warmer than we have!! Brrr!!

Robin-- you staying warm down there?? I'm ready for spring!!!

I went ahead and signed up at the beginning of the year to do 1000 miles in 2014-- You can check it out here http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/chic...es-2014-a.html Kind of fun keeping track. I try it almost every year so I hope this year is my year to finish! You can get your miles in anyway you want.. walk, run, bike, swim, treadmill, wii, DVD's just as long as you move! Anyway, thought that I would share it with you. Quite a few have signed up.

Just wanted to pop in for a minute. Donna, remember every pound gone is a good! And it does help to be accountable to each other!!

Heating up some left over beef stew--- just to cold to do anything..

Everyone have a good night

Very few made it into work today, too much ice on the roads. I wouldn't have made it in if it wasn't for my son taking and picking me up. I am just about the biggest scaredy cat when it comes to snow/ice covered roads. I drive a little Nissan Cube (named Nellie Belle) and although it's fun as heck to drive and great on gas it stinks on bad roads! (Although that could be because of her driver!) We did have court so that was a plus.

Cajunlady - I just might need a rolling pin threat to keep me in line!

Bobolink - wow that's alot of yummy looking 100 calorie snacks. Thanks! That's also a good idea of putting breakfast and snacks in baggies. It would be great to see everyone's tips on what works for them.

Sparkle - we can be the "Newbies" together. Welcome!

Karen - there is no warmth here and yes I'm with you about Spring. I might have to have a heart to heart with that groundhog next month. Good for you for joining the 1000 miles in 2014!

Well ladies, it's only 7:15 here and I'm already pooped. I'll probably fall asleep here in my recliner for an hour then off to bed so I can do it all again tomorrow. Have a great one!!

Hi everyone. a quiet day here. didn't accomplish much I tried to refind that article on the 5 foods. it was on facebook, but couldn't find it the thing I got from it is to eat natural unprocessed foods,i think we all know how to diet, its just applying it right ladies. Bobbie the diet pizza I make with small tortillas(flour or locarb) spray a cookie sheet with pam, cover the tortilla with sauce and favorite toppings bake at 425 till all bubbly. I either make the tradional red sauce one with turkey peporoni,gr pepper, onions and black olives m. cheese or I make a chix ranch one using diet ranch dressing for sauce and chopped up chix breast gr peppers, onions and olives ,and then cheese,if I have it I but bacon on the ranch one too. not sure how diet it is but better than reg crust in fact I like these better. steves got a dr apt in anchorage tomorrow, his friends are taking him so he can have guy day and that means I get some ME time I spent part of the day sorting thru my clothes that are to big for me. a family in our area had a fire and lost everything. they have 6 kids. our church has been helping them and the kids and dad have lots of stuff donated but the mom is a plus size and desperate for clothes so I found quite a bit for her. glad I kept some stuff. even found a new winter jacket for her.it feels right to pay it forward. hoping your day was quiet too, sometimes we need that rosey

breakfast
coffee
instant oatmeal

lunch
chix ranch pizza
small mandarin orange
iced tea

snack
coffee mocha

dinner
baked pork chop
1/2 c brocalli cheese rice
1/2 c applesauce

There was a huge fight at my house this morning at 3:00 am. I got up to go to the bathroom and when I got back in bed I heard my name being called from the kitchen. It kept getting louder and louder until I finally got up, went to the kitchen and told all the sweets to knock it off, it wasnt going to work no matter how loudly they yelled. Whew, one battle won.

Good morning girls!
I'll post my menu from yesterday and run.

Rosey...I just made tacos yesterday, have some left over flour tortillas Bruce used, think I'll plan some mini pizza's for tomorrows supper. I have used flat outs for a crust before, those are only 90 calories. The flour tortilla's are 100 calories and a tad smaller (8") Thanks for the idea!

Robin...happy you won your battle. It would be good for everyone to share their tips.

Welcome back Lynn...sorry you fell off the wagon. Posting here helps!

Gotta run, Bruce wants to go the the Y today...it was closed yesterday like all the businesses in town.

Progress so far -

Yesterday ate veggie burger, lettuce & tomato. Also ate clementine & a few grapes. No sleeping pills - slept about 5 hours. Finally fell asleep at about 2:30 slept until 4:30 then fell back asleep at 5 & slept until 8.

Today eating butternut squash & leek soup. Ate a clementine & will have a few grapes.

Question - I got Melatonin from the grocery store to help me fall asleep. Has anyone taken this? Any problems?

Lynn

Good morning all! We planned to go to the gym this am but overslept and dh didn't want to go late. I refuse to set an alarm and it doesn't matter to me what time I go, keep telling him it's not like we have an appt, we can go anytime. However I think the doctors may call today and it is sometimes hard to hear at the gym. I am branching out from my soft diet a bit in anticipation of the surgeon being correct...but I am chewing very carefully and just a little at a time. So far no change.

My weight is very slowly dropping again. I agree with those that said we all know HOW to lose weight, it is just doing it and sticking to it that is the problem!

Anyone tried making their own shampoo? I've been thinking of trying it. Some of the recipes called for Castille Soap which I don't care for but there are many others that don't. Even found a Cognac and Honey shampoo!
I'll probably end up buying some but it's fun to consider making my own.

Robin - Those fights go on in my house too from time to time. Mine are usually before I go to bed though. Once I'm in bed unless I can't sleep and get up, I'm ok. But if I get up or more usually in the evenings the fights begin.

Rosey- Your pizza is now in my cookbook called Rosey's Pizza. LOVE finding old clothing that is now too big for me! Wish it happened more often. These days it's more like I'm looking forward to getting back INTO some clothes I have.

Jess/cajun - Never noticed what I've eaten before bed. I've been sleeping pretty good recently but a lot of times I have trouble sleeping. Sometimes it's pain but not always. I think I eat about the same every evening but I'll try to be more careful just in case. I need to cut back anyway in the evenings esp.

Sparkle - Welcome!! You make me think of Sparkle Plenty! Yes, I'm that old!

Karen31 - Sorry for your cold and others back east. Can't believe Chicago! So glad we don't live in areas that get that cold. Ours got down in the 20s for a little while and people are still complaining about that. But mostly it's 39-45 I think.

Bobbi - Thanks for your list of snacks.

Gayle -Where are you?

Hi to everyone I've missed.

Lynn...Bruce and I both use melatonin, have for a couple years. It works, no side affects. It doesn't mess with our meds, I cleared it with our doctor. We have meds to take at bedtime, we just include it with them.. I also have a liquid form in a eyedropper that works for the middle of the night when I can't sleep. Puts me right back to sleep and works faster than the pill.

Mary...on Dr. Oz there was a hair specialist that recommended a brand that was the best for grey hair. It's great if your hair is starting to yellow like mine was for a time. Its not available around here but found it on the internet. It was a little spendy but it's a big bottle . (33.8 fl. oz) I purchased it, dated the bottle to see how long it would last. I purchased it January 10, 2012 and only used 1/2 bottle so far. (Only I use it, I buy cheap shampoo for Bruce because he'd wash his hair with lard soap if I let him.)It's called Aveda blue malva. Nothing wrong with making your own either, soap is soap in the long run. If you go to their official site, free shipping and it's $31.00. I just checked.

Hi, I'm a 54 year old married mom of "lotsakids" living in rural (and at the moment very cold) W. Michigan. I've been off and on the chicks website (more off than on) since 2010. In June I was dx'd with diabetes, gout, high blood pressure and decided I'd better take my health more seriously. So I started eating a low carb/ wheat free/ and higher fat diet. This the first January I didn't start out behind! I started in June at 272 and this morning weighed in at 199.
I do Leslie Sansone workouts some days and walk on the treadmill on others. My goal is to walk 6 days a week. I take Sunday off to rest.

My kids (11 of them) range in age from 34 years old to 13 and 4 of them are still being homeschooled by me.

Nice to meet you!

Lynn- I cannot use Melatonin. It gives me severe head aches. I have to be very careful because there are other products that contain it and they also do it.

Bobbi - I'll check out the shampoo...I don't notice much yellowing in my hair but it does look kinda drab. sometimes more than others. I'd like something that will brighten it. I've used shampoos for gray hair that were in salons. Ok shampoo but can't tell much dfference. I was just thinking if I can make from inexpensive ingredients it would be something I don't have to buy and more $$$ to travel or save. I used a L'oreal shampoo sample recently that was really good though so I might just get it, or the one you mentioned.

ETA, what about shampooing with eggs...would they make my hair yellow? Even if I follow with a conditioner? Or would that be TOO much moisturizing (as eggs are fat)? I have LOTS of conditioner.

ETA: I did order the gray hair shampoo and conditioner...wow expensive. I did get free shipping at least. Don't need the conditioner as I said but with the shampoo being specifically for gray hair, thought perhaps I should.
