Nelie: Your DH is too funny. How could you forget a place you commuted to for a year. My DH was proposing that he make the commute. The schools and the amount we can be approved for will be the largest factors.

Alena: Love the dogs! I had my way with a carafe of coffee this morning too. Kind of lost myself in the morning while studying journals. Great way to spend Sunday mornings.

Took the boys sledding at noon. Good times. Seriously. We needed to get some of the wiggles out. Wrapped it up with hot chocolate from a local coffee shop (a cookie lunch for the boys.) In an hour Ill take them to see Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. This evening I'll carve out time for myself with some new yoga podcasts. :goodvibes:

 to all of you now. It's getting near bedtime, and I've had a very busy day. Tomorrow promises to be worse - though work stuff, not me stuff (or in today's case church stuff).

Went swimming on Sat, gym or swimming Monday. :)

4rabbit 01-11-2010 03:31 AM

Hi LWL,

Pat - good work on the swimming!

Lydia - yoga podcast ? sounds interesting..

Either we're lucking out on the extreme weather or I'm adapting. I believe we still seem to be on national weather alarm, but it is actually quite doable outside, granted, there is snow, but I guess its only just below freezing and the roads are clear. Another example of how people scare the H out of me with alarmist forecasts and nothing bad actually happens. When will i ever learn not to react!

Oh well, 1 more week OP in my sceme. Did rowing again yesterday, and flexibility and a bit BW strenght this morning. I need the flexibility most now, been having a headache since saturday and my neck and shoulders are tense. And I' recommitting on the more detachment and more meditation again. I know I feel a lot better when I do practice this regularly, but it is easy to let it slip as other things claim priority.

And i weighed for the fist time since the holidays. gained 2 pounds, but still below the weight I started my "next 10 pounds" journey with. So I consider that a success and I'm now moving on towards the "next 10 pounds" goal.

Have a great day all

:cool::o

I have lifted weights at the gymn this morning and it was good. It is above zero (C) here, the DB is back at school, it is only sleeting and there is just a bit of ice to contend with. Could this be the beginning of a boring routine, my heart's desire?

 everyone.

nelie 01-11-2010 09:49 AM

I put in the P90x Yoga DVD this morning and was shocked to see 1:30 blinking back at me. 90 minutes of yoga?!!? I ended up doing 45 minutes and I am planning to attempt the rest of it tonight. It is definitely hard and I'm definitely missing some flexibility.

Tomato 01-11-2010 10:42 AM

A friend sent me a link to a sallelite picture showing the entire UK encased in snow and ice. Clicky
Although the rest of the Europe is not much better off (as per my mom). I spoke to her yesterday (she lives in the Czech Republic) and she said that they got an unbelievable amount of snow as well, and ice is also an issue.
Got run - too much work.
Later, gators!

P.S. Birchie, you look very stylish! :-)

So any of you guys know anything about abrupt home foundation settlement? The edge of my garage floor is 4 inches below the top of my driveway, now. I'm almost positive that this has happened in the last few weeks, since the heavy rains ended and the hard freeze started. I think it has actually gotten noticeably worse in the last week and a half of seriously freezing temps. Freaking me out a little.

Lydia227 01-11-2010 12:33 PM

Shannon: Sorry, I can't offer words of advice. It would freak me out too. I assume you noticed it while running on the treadmill?

Silver: I agree with Alena. I like your avatar.

Rabbit: I get the podcasts from www.yogadownload.com. I also download them from www.yogajournal.com. Both are pretty great sites.

Nelie: Speaking of yoga..you have the best part of your yoga to look forward to this evening...savasana. (make sure you take one just in case it's not part of the workout.)

So my foot was feeling a little better and I had the need to do some interval training with a jump rope. I'm so freakin' irresponsible. Sittin' here with an ice pack again. K. Well, now I'm grounded. I'll behave myself for the rest of the month because I want to be pain free by spring.

On the lifting aspect I was able to do 2x8 in 1 arm rows using 50lb dbells today. :chin: I think I could go heavier...but this made me happy for today. They make a very satisfying thud when I rerack them. :D (kind of makes up for the foot.)

Just talked to my builder - he thinks that the driveway is floating rather than the house sinking. Says it is happening on the two houses next to me, too. He and the other builder had actually looked at the driveway about half an hour before I called. He is going to come in tonight or in the morning and look around inside to see if there are any signs of sinkage inside. The driveway floating does make a lot more sense - if my house had sunk 3" in two weeks there would be other signs, that is a pretty catastrophic change.

Lydia - I actually noticed it at first while using the weight bench. Then I tripped over the lip while going to check the mail. :dizzy: I thought at first that the squat rack was what was sinking the garage, but DH reminded me that all of my exercise equipment still weighed less than a car and wouldn't be able to make my house sink. And I can't lift nearly enough weight to have enough extra there to sink my house either. :high: on the arm row!

Rabbit - I've been getting the Yoga Download & Yoga Journal podcasts, too. I like them a lot. I actually got them after Lydia mentioned them in another monthly chat. I really like the hip openers.

Pat - hope your busy day is going well!

Nelie - I watched some of one of the P90X yoga videos at my SIL's house and it seemed really hard. And really long.

Birch - neat new avatar! And good job on the weights today!

I ended up taking yesterday off from exercise. Took a three hour nap instead. Would I have been happier with the exercise? Maybe. Planning to get some in today, but that will depend on when the builder comes by. We'll see.

Good day everyone!

I read a blog called Kath Eats Real Food (katheats . com) and she has a number of yoga podcasts she's downloaded. All her entries are tagged, so you should be able to find the yoga ones easily. I'm intrigued to try one myself. I'm going to try one of my gym's yoga classes someday soon. :) I like the studio where my DH goes, but (a) they don't have a class with a time that works for me, and (b) it's further away than the gym, which contributes to (a)!

Today is the first day of LE, second time. It's a "practice for lower body" and while I'd love to just go home and snuggle up to the wood stove after work, as long as the gym is open I'll go. If it's not, I can do much of the workout at home, though those hated lumberjack squats require a 45# bar..... Tomorrow will be tricky, as I have a meeting starting at 6 pm, so I'll try to do it at lunch - at least I don't get quite as sweaty with UBWO

silverbirch 01-12-2010 06:23 AM

Cardio intervals and stretching done. Scales dropping. Life is good.

Thank you for the kind comments about my avatar. I cannot tell a lie, it is not me but is 'Woman in Furs', a portrait of Mery Laurent by Edouard Manet, 1832-1883. I like it as I am wearing a hat like hers most of the time at present and, apparently, I also have those 'looking for trouble' eyes a lot of the time.

Thank you for the link to the satellite picture, Alena. I think that map will turn out to be one of the classics in years to come. It was on the front of the Financial Times last week. Is your mother OK?

Shannon - I love being a property owner, don't you?? ;)

Lydia - please cut that irresponsibility out this minute!

Must get on with work now. The week is turning out major challenge-free so far. :crossed: SO in bed with a fairly horrible bug but that's no prob except for him.

Mel 01-12-2010 07:33 AM

I left work yesterday with a stomach ache and chills but seem OK now. Got up reluctantly and ded reluctant cardio  Despite my feeling like I'd gained 50 pounds overnight, my clothes did fit this morning. Amzing how still sore and old I feel without workouts for 2 days.

Shannon- The floating driveway would have worried me quite a bit too! Yes, I'm sure you would have seen some other catastrophic effects if the garage had sunk 4 inches that quickly. How do they propose to deflate the driveway?

Yike! That NASA photo of Great Britain was amazing. I should try to find one of the US. The upper midwest is under a blanket of snow and ice, the east coast is under a thin coating of snow and COLD, and I have no idea what's out west. My mother says it's snowing, but it's always snowing up in the mountains in Boulder

I missed the most dreaded CrossFit workout yesterday:
"Barbara"

20 Pull-ups

30 Push-ups

40 Sit-ups

50 Squats

5 Rounds for Time! Rest precisely 3mins between rounds.

Last time I did it, I started to faint about 10 minutes AFTER the workout. Maybe I made myself sick yesterday just thinking about it?

Lydia- Congrats on those rows! don't smoosh a finger re-racking the weights like I did!

Can't decide whether to do a sedate gym lift or cross fit today. I guess I'll see how I feel as the day goes on and what tortuous routine gets posted. I really shouldn't look at them beforehand!

Morning, everyone!

Shannon: A floating driveway sounds bad enough, but better than an undermined house foundation!

I've had a really active three days.

Sat: jog 2 miles (mostly downhill), 1 hour intro crossfit class, walk 2 miles (all uphill; how did that happen?). The crossfit workout left me, well, knackered. (See blog post of same name; link in sig below.)

Sun: 1.5 hours of sledding with The Boy. I ran up the hill for about 3/4 of the trips, which in boots and snow made for a good leg workout. I tried dragging my sled up the hill with The Boy, 56 lbs + gear, in it. Once, and once only. I made it, but neither my legs nor my little plastic tobaggan were up for a second trip.

Mon: am gym workout (bodyweight exercises + clean skill training), afternoon downhill ski trip with The Boy's school ski club. I managed about 45 minutes of skiing on my own while The Boy had his lesson, and then skied with him on the bunny slopes for another hour.

It was TB's first time on skis. (Yeah, I know: what Alaskan waits until their kid is 7 before sticking them on skis?) He was a bit frustrated at first, but kept plugging away. By the time we left, he was pressing me to take him today, too. Alas, responsibility kicked in and I decided I really better go to work instead.

Speaking of which ...

be strong,
K

nelie 01-12-2010 10:57 AM

kaw - nice abs!!! (your avatar)

I did P90x legs and back this morning. My legs were definitely burning and I never thought something such as mimiced pullups with bands would bring my heart up so much! Tonight is karate.
