:crossed: all is well with the weather and the DB on Monday as I'd like to get back to a fairly boring routine for a month or so. SO is working flat out (good=money) which affects the division of labour a bit. He is making the food all weekend and I am working. Stop press: front door is frozen up again. That's -7C for you. I could use my superior strength :o to bust it open, cartoon-style, but I feel the broken wood would be counterproductive. Hope you're all well, especially those of you with feet playing up. |
Good morning! :coffee:

If Lydia was to wipe the floor with you I imagine that she would do so holding you up in lieu of a barbell when doing floor wipers. Lydia, I, too, believe that I got my plantar fasciitis not from exercise but from shoes. From those gorgeous, to die for, high-heel boots I bought after Christmas last year. Those that was so I proud of because for the first time in my life my Slavic calves fit into North American winter boots. These days, I only look at them drooling. I do wear them when I go out for dinner (basically it means I am sitting in them or when we went to BF's family for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. I put them on before I get in the car and then I take them off when we walk in and I change into my arch-supporting Birkenstock-style sandals. :smug: Kim, Sorry, I forgot say thanks for the explanation. I appreciate it. I was rushing with my post trying to type it before leaving work, I had no time the entire day at work yesterday. I will leaving for the gym shortly - 45 minutes of Zumba and then there is a new class (also 45 minutes) called ZUmba toning. I am anxious to see what that's about. Will report later. UK ladies - I am thinking of you! I hope better weather is on its way. Shannon, I thought about yesterday when I read on CNN that Atlanta glazed over. We always laugh when we read that e.g. North Carolina was in a state of emergency because they got an inch of snow (here, we think that an inch is a mere dusting - I am sure Lydia will agree) but I do realize how bad it is when people live somewhere where snow or ice happen only once in a blue moon and they don't know how to drive in such conditions. Really cold here but a clear sunny day at least - the dogs are basking in the sun that's shining into the living room through the floor to ceiling window. Beetle Bug chewed up the window frame - AGAIN- yesterday. Stay warm! Alena |
Good morning all! 4.5 miles on the treadmill yesterday in my 42 degree garage. Funny that two weeks ago I thought running in low 40s outside was too cold. I'm hoping to get outside tomorrow, it is supposed to be sunny and 29. We'll see. There could still be ice that I won't drive on.
Alena - I remember when you got those boots last year... sadness that they hurt your feet like that. And yes, people down here have absolutely no idea how to drive in even a little bit of ice. Just lose it. There was a 32 car accident on one of the interstates yesterday morning about 7am. Ice on the on ramp - one hit it and slipped, then the rest just kept piling on. Most were people on the way to work at the airport. Nelie - good luck on the workout with Lydia! :dizzy: Lydia - we aren't ever prepared for icy weather here, even though it happens once or twice a year. And the mountains do make a big difference. Even my subdivision has a pretty steep hill at the top and we are about 40 minutes from where the mountains really start. I worked in Jasper for awhile, it is called 'Georgia's First Mountain City'. It was a total disaster with ice, half of my employees couldn't get to work. A number of them lived in log cabins on the mountains. Pat - I've been to Seattle. They have had some trouble with the weather this season, too, I think. Oddly, when I was there it didn't rain the entire time! :) Rabbit - I wouldn't blame you for working from home. I know you have had some pretty terrible traffic experiences due to the weather. Stay warm and safe. Silver - wow, door frozen again. I would say don't break it down. :) Getting back to a boring routine would be nice. Glad DH is working. Good day everyone! |
No Shannon - the constant rain thing in Seattle really isn't so - I think the locals promote to keep more people from coming! I love Seattle. I'd live there again in a heartbeat. Of course, both times I lived right in the city and had excellent public transportation, plus it's very walkable and has lots of parks.
COld here this morning 8F (but at least it's 8 above!) but no snow in the forecast. In fact it's supposed to be :sunny: when daylight comes ~10 am, and temps into the teens. DH has gone to Anchorage for the day,so I have an opportunity to do a project that takes several uninterrupted hours. My internet speed is now upgraded to 1mbps - YAY! I can now watch a YouTUbe video without it stopping every 10 sec. Haven't seen my added cable stations show up - if they don't by Monday I'll call customer support - I probably need to reboot my whole system. Hmmm, maybe I'll try that anyway. It just a nuisance resetting the cable boxes. Oh yeah, this is an exercise thread..... TOday is cardio, and I'm going swimming at 5:30 this evening. Tomorrow I may try to get to the gym between events. It's a church related day. Regular service at 10:30 and then an ordination ceremony for our pastor (we have her as an intern; she did a second career program) at 3, complete with the bishop, and the pastor's father (also a pastor) and a catered reception. I'm involved only as a communion helper. |
Silver: Hope your door remained intact. Your "squeaky clean eating" line is making me feel guilty. Today is my cheat meal...I just finished it. I'm buying into the 90% thing.
Alena: No. There is no way I could use Pat as a barbell. Mel was there! She taught me how to do the floor wipers. When I finished I asked how bad it was and she politely said it got better toward the end...yeah, I'm still working on them. I remember those boots too! That's just awful. WHY does THIS happen?! Shoes like these should come with warning signs. I would never have worn then if it meant six months of nursing a sore arch and heel. It is getting better though. Went for a little sprint this morning. Shouldn't have. But it felt good to stretch out a little. Never the less, I'm sitting here with an ice pack right now. Shannon: Stay warm during those runs and caution on the ice. I don't run outdoors when there is ice. Just not worth the injury to me when there are gyms with perfectly good tracks just waiting to be used. Oh right, you need to be able to get TO them. :^: Sorry. Stay in your garage for now. Pretend it's a CrossFit gym or something. WHICH REMINDS ME! There is a new CrossFit opening up in Reston, Va in February. Maybe...just perhaps..that's the one I'll join this summer. Thinkin' about it..I'm just having a hard time letting go of my own workouts and having to arrive by a certain time to partake in a group workout. But the experience with the lifts...worth joining for a few months at least. Had great workout this morning. It was efficient and effective. I had the boys with me so I needed to get out under an hour. Yesterday I cycled for an hour on my roadbike. Great fun. I forgot how sore my bottom becomes from the saddle. I wore the shorts...but still a little tender. In fact its been so long that while I was sitting here last night and they began to ache I tried to recall what I could have possibly done... Slumber party at my house tonight featuring Nacho Libre and pizza...."Did you tell him they were the Lord's chips?" or "I've had diarrhea since Easters" Love that movie.:D Have a great weekend! |
Lydia, I think you will LOVE cross fit. I started initially thinking I would go once or twice a week just to break up my lifting rut, and now I'm there 5-6 days a week and hardly ever do "my" workouts anymore.
I've been thinking a lot about your previous post about how uncomfortable you felt with the unspoken attitude of competitiveness. One of the reasons that I love cross fit is the camaraderie.... There is an outright competitive aspect, but most people are truly competing against themselves and with each other. Every person there delights in others' successes and it drives each of us to try a bit harder. Maybe I'm lucky and found a fantastic group, but I really think in general those are the type of people who are drawn to it. And there are STRONG women there of all ages. We are not freaks there. :strong: I wore my new Chuck Taylors for the first time today during the power clean clinic, and then the WOD, which was dead lifts and hand stand push ups (still a goal skill for me). The are NOT for anything involving running or jumping, but I sure was more stable doing the Oly lifts. I can't wait to try overhead squats or jerks in them. I was hoping to go skiing tomorrow, but it's just too cold and I really need a REAL rest day. I may try and take a day off next week. The weather is supposed to get a little warmer and less windy towards Wednesday and Thursday. Alena- I have those boots too- except I have skinny calves and have a hard time finding ones that don't make me look like Olive Oyl. I have an ankle pair that I bought this year and a tall pair I bought last year. LOVE them. Can't walk or drive in them! DH thinks I'm crazy when I wear them. You are right, the trick is to wear them to dinner and hope you don't kill yourself getting to the table and back. Lydia (again)- do you have a stand for your road bike? I would like to get one and have no idea what to look for. Any pointers? Have a good evening :) Mel |
Hello all,
I had a nice long reply to people but every time I try to post the cookie times out!! So I'll keep it short. Maybe I should cut and paste using Word or something? Plantar fasciitis is awful. Stretched hamstrings and ice are helpful. Take it easy and hope you feel better! Went walking around the mall, then elliptical HIIT. Yay! Happy yoga day Sunday! Hope you all have a great weekend! |
Lydia,
Not to discourage you but.. I'm not sure how the drive would be between Reston and Fairfax, those are 2 pretty busy cities and Reston has a doublewhammy of having a lot of businesses but also lots of people who live around and beyond Reston. If you could do it between 10am and 3pm, it would probably be ok but I don't know how other times would be. Of course it depends where you'd live/what roads you'd take and where in Reston the gym would be. I did my P90x plyometrics workout today and I have to say I was a bit scared to do it! It was awesome though. About half an hour in, my legs felt like jello, I have no idea how I was able to finish the last 25 minutes standing but I did! |
Nelie: I have heard some really good things about the P90x workout. Gets points from me since it appears to incorporate yoga as well as strength. Glad you are enjoying them!
Reston and Fairfax. Thanks for your insight to the traffic between the two. Obviously DH or I would be making that commute during peak hours. There is a CrossFit Fairfax as well so I'm good either way. I found a place in Oakton I'd love to buy...we'll see. It needs to leave enough to budget for things like CrossFit and my yoga teacher training...Short, muscular, yogini, barking out vinyasas...can't you just see it. Mel: The sense of community among the CrossFit members is a lure for me. This is something that may make this relocation easier for me. So another point for CrossFit. They're going to break me though...I just know it...:p But you know, if I want to be better then I need to surround myself by those who set the bar a little higher. K. Time for me to check in on the slumber party... Oh, Mel: Almost forgot. My trainer is from CycleOps. I think this is the one I have or one similar to it. It was given to me by my neighbor. She hated riding in her basement. I was more than grateful to take it off her hands. If I were purchasing one my consideration would be noise level. Some are so loud it sounds like a jet taking off. Mine's not too bad. At least the kids don't complain but I suppose that's not a great testimony. http://www.saris.com/p-313-wind.aspx  to Denvertechchick. |
Hi all,
Wow, busy thread this weekend! Shannon- I stayed indoors yesterday for the whole day - snow outside & wind & freezing. I got cabinfever! Today is much better : not so much wind. i might take a walk later in the day, just to get some fresh air. OTOH i also want to lift & work on my bedroom closet...decisions, decisions. Pat: exercise thread. Yep. I did rowing yesterday, and planning either a walk or lifting today, and that would bring me to another week OP!. Food has been bad tough, but I'm slowly dragging myself back on track. Did I mention I bought a very cute bra in the size I wore some time ago? I'm using it as my target: I want to fit in that band size again! AND I want to get back into the smaller jeans. so I'm recommitting for the umteeth time: back on track with the exercise, and then clean up the food. I've done it before, it worked, I'll have to do it again. Silver - how is the door doing? You do have a back door you could use presumably? Weather report says the severe freezing is going to pass us by next week, and I'll be very much relieved if it does! Meg, Lydia, Denver, Alena & everyone else  Rabbit |
 rabbit - it's above freezing here now so the front door is OK, thank you. And, yes, there's a back door. The NE wind is keen but no snow forecast. Still a lot of slush and ice. I've had a few slips and slides in the car but no actual skids. Good to be recommitted.
Home w/o completed: 30 mins trad cardio, 10 mins sawing cardio, 25 mins yoga/stretching. Aerobic ironing this afternoon. I want to be on top of my game (thanks midwife). Lydia - squeaky clean eating is my aspiration but I think I'm edging nearer. to everyone else. Denver - welcome! (Have I already said that?) ETA it's started snowing again. |

Nelie,
I have to say you are a nutcase. (I am saying it lovingly, though). Hats off on finishing the P90X plyo. I hate plyo, I hate plyo, I hate plyo. It's a necessary evil IMHO. I don't know what I find worse - the P90X plyo or the P90X yoga. Normally, I enjoy yoga but I find Tony's way too long and awfully boring I must say. I always slinked out after 45 minutes (i.e. on the few occasions when I did it). No Zumba toning yesterday - instructor getting certified. So we had a regular Zumba with a supply instructor instead. It was a good one. I think I should work on my abs today and I need to kick myself in the butt, figure out what exercises I am going to do and head to the gym. I am still in my pj's finishing a gallon of coffee. Denver - yes, type the email in word or in outlook and copy&paste. We don't want any cookies eating your posts! Here are some pics - the girls are curled up into warm pretzels practicing synchronized sleeping. The second one is "come and kiss my tummy" pose. :D |

Couldn't get them into the same post for some reason, here's the second one.

Lydia - I'm looking forward to the Yoga DVD but also dreading it, for some reason I don't think it'll be nice and gentle yoga :)
Also, I told DH about your Reston gym/possibility of living in Fairfax and his advice was "if she wants to go to a gym in Reston, she should live in Reston and make her husband commute". Then he said "I'm trying to think where Reston is, where is that?" And I had to tell him it was where he worked for at least a year! He used to commute from Burke to Reston. It also happens to be the location of our first date... He makes me laugh. Tomato - I may be insane! Who knows? I am looking forward to P90x more than anything and I'm hoping it'll be my gateway to running again! Also, You make me want a greyhound (those are greyhounds right?). Such cuties! |
Hello all!
Alena - I love greyhounds. And whippets. So cute. I'm thinking we will be acquiring a dog sometime in the next 24 months, and those are both on the possibility list. Would like to have our back yard fenced first... Lydia - so far I've stayed in this weekend. It is currently 29, feels like 20 according to TWC, still patchy ice. I'm thinking it is treadmill time again. I slipped on the ice going to my mailbox, I'm not sure trying to run on it would be my wisest decision. Of course, I could also curl up in the bed with a book and make today a rest day... Good day everyone! Stay warm! |
