I googled up "Beck (CBT)" and I realized I knew what you were talking about, it's just that the abbreviation didn't tell me anything. I have a book by him, I think it's called "Love is Never Enough" (it's about overcoming problems in relationships).
|
Alena, the Beck we are talking about is actually the daughter of Aaron beck, the man who wrote the book you mentioned. The daughter is also a cognitive behaviour therapist and after struggling with her own weight issues she wrote the "Beck diet solution". The book focusses not on individual diets or workouts, but on the mind game and how to turn yourself on to a more healthy lifestyle using CBT to overcome unhealthy behaviour.
There is a beck forum on 3FC if you are interested to read more. rabbit |
Hello ladies!
I'm back on track with my food and exercise. Got in a good pirated from Pat PN workout yesterday. :) Planning the treadmill this afternoon when I get home, before going out to get the chicken wings DH wants for his bowl game . Kaw - My abs have never looked like that, even when I didn't eat much peanut butter. :) Alena - I like Amy Dixon. She is the leader on several videos on exercise tv and in a lot of the Women's Health workouts. She is perky but not annoying. I like her kickboxing video. Silver - wow. More power to you for the 1840's house. I couldn't do it. Rabbit - electric floor heating. Cool. I've seen that but never walked on it. I think I would love it. Lydia - The only jackets I have are several sizes too big, too. I'm glad it isn't just me. I never realize how many decorations I have up until I have to take them back down again... I always say I'll downsize next year, but I never do. :dizzy: Good day everyone! |

Dear :bunny2:,
Thanks for setting me straight. The first Google link took me to Wiki and it only mentioned 'Beck', without mentioning the first name. Now I know. I will check out the forum later from home. Shannon, Yeap, the video has the Women's Health header. The word 'perky' fits Amy like a glove. What can I say ... it was a love at first sight. :-) Alena |
P.S.
Kim, You will have to change the link to your blog. The link you posted is pointing to kaw6 (or kaw16 .. can't remember) which doesn't remember cuz you renamed it. The correct link is http://www.3fatchicks.com/diet-blogs/14by41/. Alena |
Quick check in. It was one of those days, the first day of term, the first day back at the gymn.
Snow. Got to school but car lights very dim. Turned ignition but battery flat as pancake. Took 15 mins or so to find someone to give my car a jump start (I had the leads in the boot/trunk). Got new battery (ouch - unexpected cost). Gymn - brilliant Two new gymn tops - brilliant but witnessed snow rage in car park Heavy snow Supermarket - nearly collided with rapidly reversing idiot. Leant on my horn. Work - I do have to earn a living Phone - school closing Buses off Collect SO & DB & edge home in the worst traffic I have ever seen here Take a run at the bad hill (against advice) and get stuck. Reverse down with care and go the sensible way Home. Saw wood - it's aerobic. Geez. Food was excellent today (???). Schools closed tomorrow probably. Thanks for listening. Mel - I'll answer your 'why?' another day. Good to see you all. Coo-ee, Cheryl! |
Heavy snow? Wales? Cancel all my thoughts of visiting in winter.
A lot of people ask why we heat primarily with wood when we have perfectly good natural gas heat. :) Main reason = cost! Plus DH likes to cut/split wood and we have a lot of dead trees on our property from a beetle infestation and they are a fire danger. I like the actual wood stove - you can stand by it and get warm, you can lay your socks on it and then put them warm onto your feet - mmmmm - and you can cook a stew/chili/etc all day long. My cats sleep under it on a stone hearth which absorbs the heat. I don't like the mess - wood sheds all kinds of little particles and occasionally the stove smokes. We used it over 15 years before DH had cancer and we spent a year in Seattle. The docs advised against it (even though he's never had a lung problem) and we didn't use it the first 7 years we were back. Last year DH announced his intention of using it again. Fine, says I, but I'm not bringing in the wood - which was my job for the whole time we used it before. So last winter and this we've burned wood, and I have only hauled wood into the house when DH was away on vacation. :) |
It's snowing here too, it's very fine snow and quite wet and I think it is freezing. Ack. Gotta check the forecast.
January 5: 60 minutes of Zumba. My lower back feels stiff. |
It's snowing here too. Blech- It would be great if I could go skiing, but I have to go to work instead. On second thought, it's too darned COLD and WINDY to go skiing!
Workout last night was awful. Rather, I was awful. Started in a bad mood which wasn't elevated by the first part of the WOD which was a 500 meter run in 25 degree (f) weather. My knee went BOING and I only did about 200 meters before I limped back in. The high point was my one set of unassisted kipping pullups. I can only do 4 at a time before I have to rest, but I did do 12 total. Used the lightest band for the rest of the sets. And skipped the run. Rower doesn't feel great on the knee, but it's better than running in an uneven parking lot in the dark and cold. Food is on...pants at least fit now. Not loose like a month ago, but they fit :carrot: Silver-Your day sounded brutal. I hope you are all snuggled up near the well-stocked wood stove today. Mel |
Silver: You had quite the day yesterday. My goodness, what was the snow rage all about in what I assume is the parking lot? Or was it you who was raging.
Pat: You've almost convinced me to use my fireplace. Alena: We had this wet misty snow yesterday too. It was so cold that it froze immediately on the windshield of the car. Made it a very difficult drive to school drop offs and the gym. I need to check our forecast as well. I think we may get dumped upon on Thursday. (I was going to sign up for a yoga series beginning Thursday evening. Reconsidering...parking is a nightmare there anyway and with snow and it being 8:00pm  I need a morning series class) Cheryl:  How are you? Snow?...doing okay? Off to do legs today. I was supposed to do them yesterday but just didn't have it in my. My knees have been a little achey this past week. I tweeked them in a yoga pose and this weather (snow) has just made them a little inflammed. So...I sneaked into the empty cardio room and did a half hour of a Jason Crandall yoga podcast. Great fun. It's nice to practice yoga with a full wall mirror if you don't have someone to realign you. Finished that off with half an hour of elliptical steady state cardio. Felt great even though I didn't wear myself out. Different plans today. Back to my regular scheduled programming...legs. Enjoy :coffee: Mel: I just saw your post. Your knees too!? sigh. It's just one of those things. There are days where I play this game...which joint DOESN'T hurt today. Add my name to the list of people who have "No Injuries" as a goal for 2010. |
Is this the decluttering thread? I'm getting rid of the rebounder (mini-trampoline). I got it a few Christmases ago for cardio when I couldn't get out. I think it's much too easy to overdo it and I always end up injured, however cautious I am. I didn't even know I could have a dodgy knee/hip/lower back combo until I got it. And it messed up my Christmas exercise programme from mid-Dec. Enough's enough and it takes up valuable space.
Talking of space, the Three Kings have arrived now (Epiphany) so the Christmas tree and decorations can come down. We are all at home today. School is open but the police are advising no journeys unless strictly necessary. Very icey. Rabbit, are you snowed in? Lydia - snow rage took the form of an enormous man with a tiny girl bellowing at a driver who'd parked in an 'adult & child' space without a child. Bellow, bellow as they slithered through the slush. Unedifying. Mel - is CF good for one's health if one is not a marine? Or, I suppose, a marine at heart? On the Blackberry so this is abbreviated. Keep those muscles warm, everyone. |

No AM workout for me today. Big deadline at work. But, I'll join the masses this afternoon at the only gym that's open on campus these days. Two more weeks until I get "my" gym back. Mel -- on the question of space and equipment, I have to admit that I spend a lot of time cobbling together alternatives for some of the crossfit exercises. But, I have seen someone do muscle-ups on a fixed pullup bar at "my" gym, so I know it can be done. Just not by me, yet! FWIW, the Crossfit kids site has a nice video of a kid going through the progressions to muscle-ups; it follows his progress over two years, and ends with him cranking out a few sets. Scroll down to "muscle-up demo" on this page. be strong, K |
Good morning...
No workout yesterday. Went home with the plans of getting on the treadmill, crashed on the bed for 45 minutes instead. Didn't get up and exercise this morning either, might have two days in a row of no exercise. Ick. Going to try to get out of here in time to do something before picking DSS up from school. I really want to get outside and run, but it has been so cold.. I don't think the running clothes I have are up to the '29 degrees but feels like 17' temps I've been seeing on The Weather Channel... Kim - I piece together a lot of exercises similar to the crossfit ones as well... Hope you make your deadline! :) Cool CF kids video. Birch - You don't take your decorations down until after epiphany? Neat. I am glad that mine were down this weekend, though. I don't blame you for raging at the man in the 'person with child' space. I went off on a man who parked in the 'expectant mother' parking at the grocery store the other day, and I didn't even want the space. Just wanted to make a point. Lydia - sounds like a good workout! I haven't done any yoga in about ten days and I can totally feel it. Pat - my grandfather burns a wood stove pretty much all the time, has for years. He has a smoky haze on the roof and walls now. :) Mel - I haven't been able to work back up to a regular pull up since my surgery a year ago, but I do okay with the kipping most of the time. Can't do 12 though! Alena - we haven't had any snow here yet, but man it has been cold... I think they are calling for snow showers tomorrow, but will be nothing like what you guys are getting! Good day everyone! |
Hmm I've been slacking.
