I had a great work-out this AM. Shredded the legs and then did 45 minutes on the elliptical. I was loading up the leg press and this older gentlemen gym newbie came over and asked if I was about to use the machine. I told him yes so he kindly offered to take the 45 pound plates off. I told him that wasn't necessary because I had just put them ON there. He gave me the weirdest look and walked away, but kept looking over where I was throughout the rest of my workout to see what I was doing. I'm sure he thinks I'm bananas.
I had a quickie FBWO today, for the rest I think I picked up the bug that the kids had last week, so lots of R&R for me, I'm just leaving th household chores where they are.
Yeah, Fru!! Clear that you had your llama juice before the exams!
Picking out my new workouts today. I have crossed the THIRTY POUND THRESHOLD
so, this is the point in my "plan" of where I shake-it-up-babee-now, twist and shout, and pick out new exercises too.
Struggling to find anything new for bi's and tri's. It's really the same old stuff just in a different position isn't it - preacher, concentration...?? Guess I will have to get into pushups finally as well because besides chest pushups and flys, hmm...... What would an incline pushup or fly do for me over a flat on my back one? Have never read what the difference is or which is harder. Been doing them flat.
Looking forward to starting some good morning and dumbbell lifts off the floor, as well as a wide grip pulldown -- back to my old weight machine for that. I've gone thru 5 training books and 3 websites for ideas but am running dry. I think I've got 2 new for each body part tho, so off I go.
If you are having trouble finding some exercise options for the equipment available to you, there are other methods of changing things up to "confuse" the muscles besides changing the exercise.
Because you are doing BFL, changing set/rep schemes is not really an option, but you can change other things such as order of exercises. For instance, if you were doing standing bicep curls as your first exercise that you did for your 12-10-8-6 sets and then followed that immediately with hammer curls, you might just want to do hammers as the first exercise and standing curls for the second.
Or you might want to change your position. Instead of standing tricep extensions doing them seated, or seated on a stability ball, or standing on a bosu, balance pad, or wobble board.
Or changing your stance or grip will affect the exact way in which you hit the muscle.
Also, you don't necessarily have to change everything. If you are making especially fast gains in a particularly exercise. I would think twice before swapping it out for the sake of change.
Anyhow, just some food for thought. You are doing great so you obviously have a good handle on what works for you. Keep it up!
Thanks Depalma. Never realized the "small stuff" changes of just reversing order or grips could cause muscle confusion. Great to know! I just finished my ubwo - man, what a newbie I still am. I go in all confident thinking, hey, I can do big on this, I've been doing it for awhile. Then reality hits and I realize how much a difference a new angle or position can make on a muscle - it doesn't necessarily just pick up from where you left off. That's kinda cool though too. So, 2 hours later, and I already know I will have trouble rolling out of bed in the morning. My back is already talking too me. Not hurting, but let's just say I'm feelin' some new muscles back there! Oy, but it's all good!
Thank you all! I need to get those shoes and hat now then
I also got a new M'bike on Saturday We's best friendses already
Oooh and also I made a weekend of reasonably clean eating! Saturday was perfect - Subway for lunch and chicken stir-fry (home made) for dinner and Sunday we ate out twice but I didn't use it as an excuse to stuff my face... progress indeed - AND the most amazing thing about this.... My parents were here I usually regress to my 14 year old bingeing habits when they're around, but no. I kept my head YAY!
Must get head into gear for this week - I have good food with me today, must organise my workout at lunch and then get back into the groove
Ohman Fru, when my parents come to town, it's a complete munchfest on all manner of wicked food items. Your control this weekend is just as amazing as the new belt cause it shows extreme MIND CONTROL!!!
HRBabe, don't it feel good to be tender from a work-out? It's like your body telling you that you did it right.
This AM I did 42 minutes on the bike, while watching the last half of Romancing the Stone. No weights today for this chickie. I didn't bring one BITE of food to work today. DD is down for the count so I'm heading out at lunch to check on her. I'll swing by the house and grab essentials then. I should be okay because I had my Puffins (carbs), egg whites (protein), Soy milk and 1 oz turkey ham (fat) so my body has fuel for now.
Where's everybody else!!!???? Lydia, Art, Mel, Meg, SuB, Rabbit, and the rest of the crew! Where y'all hiding?
OK, so getting out of bed today was not bad at all. In fact, any tenderness I might have would sure feel better than the achy sore feet that used to great me every morning 30+ pounds ago!!
30 minutes hi-cardio on the treadmill today, and tomorrow I'll get to try my NEW lbwo! Can't wait!
I ended up not exercising yesterday. DH and I finished the last of our thank you notes from our wedding (2 months ago! can you say procrastination?). Also did some chores. I cooked some split pea soup and made an interesting steel cut oats dish. I posted it in Whole Foods Lifestyle but it is an oat risotto and it is oh so good. I am thinking of buying the book it came from "The Splendid Grain" which has awesome reviews on amazon for it.
This is also week 4 of me being at the same weight. I really do need to try harder but I am wearing a pair of size 18 pants today The weekend before last, I went to Lord & Taylor and bought them. I've also been reading an interesting book "The Millionaire Next Door" which is interesting but one thing they mention is (the majority of) millionaires don't shop at Lord & Taylor. I think they should, that store has the best sales. My pants cost $16 and they are so nice. The book seems to say that we should hoard money instead of spending it. I completely don't understand the fundamentals of hoarding money. I like having a nice money cushion but I also want to have fun. I think overall the book says a lot more about consumerism in America (and possibly other places) than anything else.
Good morning gals - sometimes I forget that I don't post here very often and thus am lurking - I read your posts every day, but since I'm posting on a couple of other threads, I tend not to do it here.
Things are going well with me - I'm following a big combination of programs these days - doing BFL/BFFM-type eating, but coupled with YOU: on a Diet restrictions, and then my workouts are a combo of Jillian Michael's and BFFM - circuit training to keep my heart rate up while lifting. This is week 3 of it all, and I'm feeling pretty good. The scale hasn't budged much, but clothes are fitting a bit looser.
Nelie - I'll have to look up the recipe you mention - sounds good!
Frus - congrats on the belt!
Tiki - you've had me in stiches lately!
Hello to everyone else - hope you're having a good Monday!
I have a question for those of you who are trainers. I will talk to my doctor about this, but wanted to hear your take on it. After my LBWO workouts I have temporary stiffness in the hips the rest of the day. If I sit for any length of time, as you do at work, then when I go to get up, I have a hard time straightening all the way up immediately. Eventually I get there, and then all is fine, but it's annoying.
I have the same problem when I ride in the car for 45 minute + - temporarily
very stiff when I finally can stand up.
Any thoughts? I am, in general, pretty flexible - I stretch daily after my workouts, including hip flexors, quads, hamstrings and calves.
Cindy
I read that book too Nelie. I think there are alot of millionaires who shop at walmart and target and hunt down the clearance racks. But these are mostly the people who grew up with nothing and are self-made. They got good educations, good jobs, and still live like the paychecks could stop any day (which is also how oprah said her dad told her to live, in a funny story she told). They are the quiet and invisible millionaires, but not the uber-rich hedge fund traders on wall street. I think it's a minority, not a majority, but the only way average people like you & I will ever become millionaires I think. Anyway, interesting read about the value of compounding money and the value of saving early vs late.
