  • Satine - Good call on the cheese...it's a rather large croissant and the chicken salad is just from a local spot called Cafe Stypsi...it's homemade and BOY is it good...MMMMMM...but good point, I'll look it up and see. She did bring me baked lays for lunch too which was thoughtful. I just would hate to turn it down as I do love it and as I don't wish to offend her. Should I just punch chicken salad into fitday and see what it comes up with? Just a general estimate should be ok, right?

    how is everyone!? long time no talk

    I sorta quit worrying about what I am doing daily, and it seemed to have worked. Instead of thinking about it 24/7, I just made it automatic. Plus I have been way busy

    anyhow, I need to scan my before picture, but I wanted to show you all my "after" pic..it's about 3 weeks ago, weighing in at 123~! Almost there!

  • Missy: Like Carri, out goes the cheese. Dump it in the trash or nasty it up some way so you won't be tempted. Now here is the rub, croissants have a LOT of butter in them so they can be high in cal and fat and with the mayo in the chicken salad, what about eating half the sandwich with the chips and maybe some fruit or something. UUUHHHH, this is not good news. I went to Atlanta Bread Company and they have chicken salad and croissant and here goes:

    Chicken salad 4 oz 310 cal 119 fat cal
    Croissant 300 cal and 135 fat cal

    What about tossing the croissant and just eating the chicken salad on the lettuce and tomato?

    Nellie: Hi girl, it is good to see you! We always do a proper welcome here so be prepared for the onslought! As for the points, if you go to the very first post of this thread, you will see an introduction by me and it shows what you get points for. I give smileys each day depending on how many points you earned for the day before, for example, I got in exercise, my water and stayed on my program for yesterday so I got 4 points (1 for exercise, 1 for water and 2 for program). Participating in anything is up to you and not mandatory, but it seems to help us stay on the straight and narrow. We also have a topic for each day which will be in color at the top of my first post for that day. Like today is Wednesday's woes so you get to complain about anything today! We have two challenges currently, one is almost finished and that is 10 lbs lost by August 31st and was started back in July, the other is everyone works hard this week Mon-Friday and tries to get 4 points each day this week. So far we are 100% 4 pointers for our week.

    I have been married for 31 years, will be 50 in another month, have 2 grown children, Jack who is 30 and single (BUT NOT FOR LONG! WOOHOO ) and Kelly who is 26, married and has one little boy, Thomas who is 3. He is the light of my life. I started my program on Jan 6 of this year and have lost around 90 lbs soon to be much much more! I live in Memphis, Tn and am gainfully unemployed at the moment!

    Well, girls, I need to get downstairs and get some work done. I finished upstairs and am thinking about getting the downstairs done today too.

    I am 2/3 to 4 pts for today as I already have in my water and exercise and I am on target for my program!

    Welcome Nellie, I am Pam, I live in Athens, Alabama. (my alias on the forum is pjkdreamer...my email address is [email protected].....I am 43 as the address implies. I have been with my partner Jane for 8 years, we have chosen to live our lives together, and the relationship with her is the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me. I currently work as a Switchboard Operator at an Answering Service, my schedule is crazy, working all kinds of split shifts....meet myself coming and going, have a great group of co-workers!! just wish my hours were more stable! I am a Social Worker by trade, graduated from college in 1985, and from high school waaaaaaaay back in 1978! Have lived in South all my life and couldn't imagine living anywherelse!!! I am the definitive Southern belle at heart, as the ladies here can attest!!! Don't get me started talking about the south or Southern writers, right girls??? I love love love to read, and write (working on a novel, one day I will get it published!!), I enjoy walking, and exercising!!! (now), and have a new found love of taking care of myself! I also enjoy cross stitch, and spending time with family. (my mom, sister and 2 neices, they are my life!) that's me....I started this journey on June 5th, highest weight was 356, and I am now at 331.4, and still going. Feeling strong!!!

    Okay...I did it!! 4 points for yesterday Its early today, so no news to report re: being OP and I have Pilates tonight so I am sure to get in my exercise for the day. We are doing great girls...keep up the good work!!
    Missy...I am sure the sandwich dilemma is over by now but hope you found a way to stay OP for the day. Sounds like everyone came up with some good alternatives. Its difficult not to hurt people's feelings but taking care of yourself with food has to come first right now

    Julie...I am with you on this one. The more I dig in about being on a diet/restrictions (can you say OBSESS) the more I tend to start bingeing. I have had a long history of compulsive eating and it has been a challenge to undo that big knot, one thread at a time. Sounds like you have hit on something that makes sense and works for YOU and that is the key.
    Okay, time to get busy. They really do want me to work here

    I'm Julie. I'm a 35 year old, stay-at-home-mother of 3. I live in the middle of Maine, sorta near the coast....but spent a good portion of my life down south, so I guess these suthun' ladies don't mind me too much In my spare time, I'm a seamstress and belly dance teacher.

    Hey gals, I actually got an endorphin high on the treadmill this morning!!!!! I couldn't believe it, I've never had that awesome rush come over me unless I'm dancing. Reallllly strannnnge.

    Oh, and a word of advice. NEVER EVER try to bring a huge treadmill down a spiral staircase by yourself!! I just about killed myself this morning trying to get that thing out of my bedroom! I'm ok, the kids are ok, the walls....welll.....I'm hoping dh doesn't look too closely at the dents!

    Tonya: Join us when you can. I am a worry wart so all I could think of was that something happened to you and we would never know about it! Kiss and hug the kids from all of us!

    I have the whole house cleaned now and am shortly going to put the clean sheets on the bed then go down and fold the laundry and put the next load in the dryer. I do laundry everyday, but come cleaning day I always have an extra load.

  • You know what I have found to be frustrating? The fact that everyone seems to have this "revelation" about their eating habits and they just fall into place. For me, I have those moments, but then 1-2 weeks later I'm back off the wagon. I'm thinking to myself, when is this gonna happen. I guess what I'm asking is, how do you get to that point?

    I want to say to Tonya, congrats on your success! Tell me your secret!

    Well the lunch dilema was over. Fitday had a medium croissant weighing in at 300 cal and the cup of chicken salad weighing in at a whopping 423 calories (thanks for looking it up Faye, but I'm going with the highest calories, just in case.)

    BUT here's what I did:
    Took off the cheese (OK I had a microscopic sliver that stuck to a tomato)
    Took off the tops of the croissant
    Then just ate the tomato off (so it wouldn't land on my lap) and had the rest of the sandwich open-faced. That worked quite well. All she said to me was "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know you didn't want cheese." So I just told her it was totally ok and I appreciated her getting it, just that I'm watching my calories and that I wanted to enjoy it, but cut it down a bit.

    Now I'm having some sour tangerine altoids as my dessert. LOL

    Calories are a bit high. 758 in so far for the day...leaving me with 500 for the rest of the day. It is rough, but I'll make it! I had a tall glass of pink lemonade by crystal light last nite and it was pretty good as a "treat". So, I'm sure I can do it. We'll just have to buckle down!

    Congrats on the 100%...Faye, you need to put your foot down more often. We all shudder when you tell us what to do! :P

    Nellie - I am the resident soap opera! I'm 25, from Eastern PA and I'm currently dealing with 2 boyfriends...one of which is a jerk (but has his moments) and the other who is a sweetheart (but has his moments). The problem is dumping the jerk, as we work together. But I'm slowly working on that angle. It will just take me a while! Welcome to our little group! MWAH!

It means you have gone over a hurdle for at least one day and the fact that you know your cals are skimpy and are prepared for that is even better.

    I know, I just scare the out of you all don't I?

    Ok, since I am the drill sargeant here. Here is our cadence:

    Nellie - I am a 29 year old female, married, no kids...have lived in Indiana all my life, where I live now...have a Westie dog named Les ( he and my husband are my kids ), have only been overweight since I got married about 9 years ago, my highest weight has been 246 and that was around January of this year...
    I am currently at 222 and very proud of myself but still need to lose 4 pounds in less than two weeks to meet Faye's initial challenge...I love to read, especially celebrity biographies, I am hooked...love music, and my TV ( love, love Big Brother )...work at an insurance company and am very close to my family....that about wraps me up in a nut shell ( and I am a nut, believe me )
    Hope to get to know you better....we'll help you if you stick around!

    Missy - so what did end up happening with the sandwich?

    Julie - I too almost killed myself moving a treadmill about a month ago, NEVER AGAIN.....

    Faye - Have a good day cleaning....you inspire me to be the "cleaner house" me....ha

  • Carri - I took off the cheese (except for a like microscopic piece that stuck to my tomato) and then I took off the croissant tops and just at it like an open faced sandwich...then a serving of the baked lays. It worked pretty well and I am quite pleasantly full. I had a few tangerine sour altoids as dessert (30 cal for 8) LOL...so, that worked OK.

    So now the problem is that I have about 500 cal for dinner, which isn't terrible, but it's certainly not ideal. I tend to save up my calories for big dinners since my mom makes me dinner.

  • Wow something nice really happened to me this afternoon. Dh came home and came upstairs and said that Carl and his wife (the guy dh works with) had given me something and it was downstairs. I went downstairs and here was one of those glider machines. I have been thinking of purchasing a Tony Little Gazelle after we come back from Chicago so that I don't have to walk on the sidewalks around here during the winter. They wouldn't even take money for it. He told Jack the only stipulation was that if we didn't like it, WE had to get rid of it no giving it back! It's only been used twice because his wife decided not to commit to exercise and he is too tall for it. I am hoping I can encourage dh to use it everyday but we shall see. I SAVED $400! Woohoo wonder if dh will let me spend it.....NOT A CHANCE!

    Jack has made the reservation for HarryCarays for my birthday. I looked at the menu and whooeee the prices! That is the place I want to go for my birthday though. I guess we are going to have champagne (which I am not fond of) to celebrate my birthday and the kid's engagement and birthday cake besides. Jack is supposed to call this lady at the restaurant to tell her what kind of cake to order for me. You know I am a huge Cubs fan and his restaurant has lots of Cubs memorbilia and stuff from when he was the WGN announcer for the Cubs games until he passed away a few years ago. They have a great menu and I am even going to be able to find something that won't be too bad, though for my birthday I am not going to worry about it. After all, I HAVE to have a hot dog at the game earlier in the day and those are terribly fattening! Just one more month to go. I am really getting excited about it.
