Hi you guys! <3 I'm so despondent today. Today was weigh in and I am three (3!!!) pounds HEAVIER. I'm totally gutted! I have no idea how that works...! I am guessing you are right Treasa that it is to do with the swimming as you say... but how discouraging?! I feel like never exercising again! I am still eating at a 1000 calorie defecit every day. All I've done differently is exercise. I'm scared its going to go up more!! I'm doing all the maths inside my head and it doesn't add up at all. So frustrating!
Skullarix 2lbs is brilliant, well done! Keep it up
Scotsgal Wonderful news about little one, I hope she is setling in well and glad the move went smoothly!
I hope you are doing all well and sparkly, hugs to you all!
Oh, MsTibbles! Hugs for you! Swimming ALWAYS makes me heavier initially too. I think it has to do with using lots of muscles you don't use any other time. While they're repairing, they retain some water. And if you're eating right, it IS just water. Remember that and don't be discouraged. You'll probably have a BIG WHOOSH! of weight loss. For me, it comes right around my period. YMMV.
I cheated a couple of bites last night for dinner. I already ate my Lean & Green meal for lunch so when I re-heated spaghetti for my 6 year old, I took a couple of bites. So sad. I got home late from picking up my tiles out of town so I did not exercise. I'm hoping to squeeze a workout later today. No excuses! Tiles & dry wall are bought, the hubby is on his own at this point. LOL. Having a company lunch again today so I will be eating my Lean & Green for lunch again. My scale has not changed in the past few days.
Hello all! I feel kind of silly posting on a weight loss support buddy forum now that I am going to get bigger instead of smaller! I hope you guys don't mind if I still stick around. I quite enjoy our group and love hearing about the progress you all have made!
I had a heck of a time gaining weight over the past two weeks because my mind was still in diet mode. I couldn't even eat my maintenance points on WW. Finally started to gain a little these past two days. Up to 238.8lbs as of Monday. Tuesday I had some water weight going on at 240lbs. Having a heck of a time eating too. Was terribly nauseous during my 5th week.. At week 7 now and the nausea is hiding behind food aversions. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with me.. it's all the nausea symptoms without the actual nausea attached. This sent me into a panic in the beginning. My newly reduced pant size is already too tight. This makes me cringe a bit! Not going to lie!
MsTibbles I am sorry about your weight gain! I agree with Treasa, I did water aerobics for a while and gained weight as well in the beginning.
Hi everyone, this is my first post. Have been reading these posts for a couple days and you gals are definitely inspiring. I'm starting my first ever real attempt to lose weight, after being obese most of my life. Mid thirties now and I'm looking to feel and look better.
I have given up sodas for 2 weeks, and I used to drink them all day. That's at least 400-500 empty calories each day that I have given up. For the last week, I have been tracking all meals and exercising for the first time in years. I am walking each day, 8,000-11,000 steps, which is huge for me. I am also doing water aerobics every other day. I'm in Florida, and it's extremely hot, so pool workouts are a lifesaver. I have read about some of you gaining weight with pool exercises, which is slightly concerning, but at this point I really just need to build up some muscle, and the pool workouts seem to be helping.
I do not own a scale. I have always been phobic about them, haha. I am estimating my weight at around 230-240, but I will buy a scale soon. After two weeks of no sodas and one week of decent eating and exercise, my pants are too loose, and almost fall down. So that's a good sign!
My initial goals are just to feel better and have more energy, and be able to move more. I would eventually like to weigh around 140. I am prepared for a long road of work, but looking forward to being healthy.
Thanks for sharing all your stories, and I'm looking forward to chatting with you all.
Thanks for the support! I gave myself a smack on the nose for being so grumpy. I'm 99.9999% sure it's water. It can't possibly be fat, I would be defying the laws of physics Hopefully it will drop back down over this week and i'll have a pleasant surprise on tuesday.
alta9677 Welcome, and of course you can Looking forward to seeing your posts!
LesGetFit Hugs, and welcome! It's good to have you! Yes, a few people have explained to me that swimming uses muscles you wouldn't have used before, and as they repair, they inflame and retain water. That's all it is - not fat. So don't worry! It's a bit frustrating to see on the scale though (I think you have the right idea, avoiding them! ). I'm hoping i'll be back to normal by next tuesday.
I think your initial goals are very sensible and it looks like you're seeing results already which is fantastic. I think a lot of people are of the opinion that non-scale victories are better and more encouraging. (There is a forum for it too I think!) I also have a very long road to go, but I promise it gets easier.
One thing I remembered when I started 6 weeks ago was - "research has found that it takes only 21 days of doing something for it to become a habit". It's true, it's so much easier now, I just get on with it.
I feel for you though, being in Florida at the moment! I'm in England and I find it too hot here! I'm glad you're joining us, keep us updated! And well done for your progress so far! Always look to see how far you've come, not how far you have to go. Look forward to seeing your posts!
MrsClayton bless yer heart! Of course we want you to stick around *hugs* It's not just about weight loss, its about being healthy! Plus we think you are awesome. Nausea symptoms without the nausea sounds like a pain in the bottom!! Hoping things will ease up for you in the coming weeks.
ladyvwj Thank you, I'm 99.9999% sure it is. Will keep fingers crossed that your scale starts to move again soon- and don't sweat the spaghetti bites! I'm sure you will have burned them off.
Treasa Thank you so much, you always keep me sane I'm feeling better today and kicking butt once more I hope you are doing well and sparkly, hugs to you
mstibbles don't let this week bring you down! Today is a fresh start those weeks do suck though
mrsclayton you better stick around! Hope you are feeling better
letsgetfit welcome and great job on starting to get on track
After my Monday night total FAIL lol ive been being good. Tried not to use all my points yesterday and doing the same today and hoping itll kind of even out? We shall see! I feel good though. I want to get to the point where I actually see a decent change in myself and don't feel like im "super overweight" You know what I mean?
Thanks for the welcome Mrs. Tibbles and Amberkkski!
I'm glad I found this forum, I think it will definitely be easier to start this journey with support from others.
Even though a scale may cause me some concern, I think I am going to purchase one anyway. I think the numbers may motivate me a bit more, but I'm not sure. I guess if it hinders my progress in any way, I could stop using it, haha.
Thanks again for sharing your stories and the warm welcomes!
Welcome Letsgetfit! I admit I like having a scale. I'm a numbers gal and I find seeing daily fluctuations on the scale (water, I suppose) oddly comforting. But we're all wired differently - do what works for you! Giving up soda is HUGE!!!!! I gave up Diet Coke (and all nutrasweet) and it is hands down the most difficult and most important thing I've done in my weight loss journey.
MrsClayton! Glad things are going well. I remember how exciting it was with my first baby when my clothes didn't fit anymore. Little one's getting bigger!
MsTibbles - You're doing awesome! Depending on how much you swim, it may take a couple of weeks to see the scale move. Don't get discouraged! If you're eating right, the weight will come off and it'll probably happen in a giant WHOOSH!
Amber - I bet it will even out. I know what you mean about feeling a big change. It's funny because I feel that big change, and I definitely have more energy, BUT when I catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror or my size 12 jeans are still tight (I was squeezing myself into a 16 when I first started), I feel like the great feeling must be a mistake. Doesn't my body know how much better I feel! I feel like a size 10 - why doesn't my body agree???
We moved our daughter into her dorm yesterday. We hauled stuff up 4 flights of steps and I was huffing and puffing and sweaty. I got in my 10k steps and an excellent workout to boot. But then my husband and I stopped off at Outback on our way home. We drowned our sorrows and mourned our daughter flying the coop! I treated it like any other weekend night - I had two big glasses of wine, a few cheese fries, and some Bloomin' Onion in addition to my steak, veggies, and salad. Anyway, the scale was unexpectedly kind to me this morning. I've got a busy day ahead so I hope I can get in my steps.
Thanks Treasa! I have wanted to give up soda for years, but it is really hard. A couple weeks ago I had just had enough, and suddenly it seemed doable. I still miss them a little, haha. I did buy a scale last night, just a cheap Sunbeam scale. Not sure how accurate it is. Last night it said I was 224, and this morning it says 220, haha. But either way, the number is lower than I thought. Feel like I have lost at least 5 lbs already in the last couple of weeks, as I have definitely lost at least an inch, maybe two, from my waist. I actually will have to go buy jeans one size down by the end of the week! Just one pair, because I do not plan to be in that size for long!
Sorry about your daughter, I'm sure it was hard seeing her go, but she will do amazing things at college. Go her!!!!
TREASA AHH!!!! I know youre sad shes gone, but how excited is your daughter?! Funny you mentioned the pants I was just saying to my brother yesterday im mad I still fit in the same size pants (I do now put them in the dryer every week when if I did once before they wouldn't fit anymore and some of them are pretty loose now even with that) But I want them to be falling off of me dangit!!! lol
letsgetfit Just a bit of advice especially if youre just starting to weigh yourself. I know I can get pretty obsessive and get depressed over it so I really really try to pick 1 day and 1 time (Sunday as soon as I wake up and pee haha) to weight myself this way I don't watch it flip flop throughout the week
LesGetFit - Welcome! Good job on giving up soda. I grew up on caffeine. My two older boys were too. I drank both Coffee and Soda. My boys are split, one prefers the other. As much as I love it. I can give it up and have for over a month now, going on two. I can't seem to give up salt or sugar. Mostly can't give up salt. I have a big goal like you too so I'm looking at a year's projection. Congrats on your loose clothes! I'm just barely noticing mines loose but not falling off yet. As for the scale, mines varies by a couple lbs too so I keep getting on and off until I get 3 matching numbers. Also, I tend to lose 1-3 lbs overnight when I'm doing things right, like drinking lots of water! As Amberkkski mentioned, I picked a time and only pay attention to the every other morning weigh-ins right when I wake up.
Treasa - I have the opposite problem. My stepson left and came back. Now he's in the army. My oldest son, won't leave. LOL. And stairs? They are the hardest workouts for me. They make me the most sore. Side note: mmmmm fries! They are my weakness!
Sadly, I did not work out last night. We got busy putting up the drywall for my new walk in closet. My friends stopped by to drop off dinner. I did well by only eating the lean meat and I popped out some lettuce to make them wraps. However, they also brought over some wine. I had 2 glasses of red wine. I know it's not horribly bad but it pushes one of my mini-goals back out again. I don't know how I will break out of this habit. I think it's the one slowing me down too.
Good morning you all! I was hoping to pop in...work is so boring lately that I am following my doctor's advice of "this diet has to be your first priority" and of course that means skimming the internet....right? MsTibbles love your avatar...I was a competitive swimmer for almost 20 years!
Amberkkski - I am using the LoseIt app to track my progress, and it recommends weighing everyday and getting used to the fluctuations. But I think once a week may make me a little less crazy, so I'll probably heed your advice here. And I totally understand the jeans in the dryer thing, because mine have always been sooooo tight when they go through the dryer. It's nice now to be able to put them on right after and still have them sag off.
Ladyvwj - I haven't given up coffee, and don't know that I ever will. I still have 1-2 iced coffees per day, homemade though, with half the calories of my normal coffeehouse iced coffee. I love salt and sugar, haha, but I am trying to go easy on both right now. Oh and it's good to know that everyone may weigh a little less in the mornings, maybe my scale isn't too off. It seems to be accurately weighing small hand weights that I have lying around.
I'm not too concerned overall with the actual numbers right now, as long as I start to feel and look a little better, I'll be extremely happy. I'm sure down the line, I'll be obsessed over all the numbers, haha.
