And, in case you haven't gotten one of these yet,

Yep, you found the men's thread, where guys occasionally touch base but hang out in all the different corners of the site.

Thanks for the pointer to your blog - neat history losing that 100 pounds on your own.

Are you currently using a gym?

Actually yes, but I have no set routine which is KILLING me. I'm looking for some basic routines to get the ball rolling again (don't get me wrong, I know a lot of exercises from my history, I just like a structured plan). So if any of you have a link that could hint me on the right path that would be great.

I'm looking for bulking up mostly. I swim every other day (laps) I'm just needing multiple plans so I can rotate them every other 3-4 weeks.

I'm also 240 but my height is 6 feet. I haven't lost any weight yet but haven't gained either..I have been trying to stick to a diet but wheen off of it sometimes.....For me its more of a mental thing than a physical thing even though I have a fractured knee at this point in time.

I got my workout routine from here ... http://www.muscleandstrength.com/workouts/main.html

I do the advanced split routine and it works for me so far!

That website is great, thanks so much for recommending it

I played for a pro paintball team for a few months and REALLY hurt my quads... I tore them I think, It's been over four months and they still hurt when I do squats/leg press/ leg exercises... So I'm having to stop working my legs until I figure out whats wrong with me. I hope my upper body doesn't get huge and my legs stay the same now lol. I don't want to look weird.

Oh man the weather is AWESOME here in Virginia right now! PERFECT for bike riding! If I was in better shape or even younger I think I would like to do like a long distance bike ride. I am really used to my bike now. When I got it 5 months ago I could hardly ride 20 minutes without getting sore. I can now ride 3 hours and hit it hard and hardly break a sweat it is so awesome to be able to do that.

Of course this is just roadwork (I have a hybrid bike too). ONE day I am going to do some mountain biking!

Another thing is I am now taking vitamins regularly. The Health and Nutrician store I go to has I swaer at least 200 different kinds of vitamins. I was just going to take like One-A-Day but it seems the store clerk recoiled in horror when I said I was going to take them. He said they are mass produced pill for the generic masses. He said that men should take vitamins specifically for men. I tried to read what the difference is but I swear there are SO MANY things in both and looks like everything but the kitchen sink is in those pills! LOL!

What kind of vitamins do you all take?

I take a daily multi-vitamin; CVS something for men (merely means no iron). Mass produced. Pennies per pill. As recommended by Nutrition Action (Center for Science in the Public Interest).

My doctor suggests that a daily vitamin "can't hurt," but isn't particularly enthusiastic. There is no study that shows that manufactured vitamins seriously contribute to health. So, if I believe that, why do I take them? I guess because I believe like my doctor, can't hurt.

But I haven't bought in to the sales pitch of the vitamin stores. YMMV.

Hey I know what you mean! LOL! I only go to this one Vitamin Store because it is right around the corner from me!

I swear you could go into this place and tell them you have ANY disease or ANY ailment and the sales person will tell you you don't need conventional meds you can get it all naturally!

Hey guys. Please allow me to quickly reintroduce myself. I've been lurking here for ages with the odd weak attempt at trying to lose weight...

I've tried, and failed, over and over to lose weight. I've slowly come to understand that it's a lifestyle change, not a quick fix.

I'm 41 yrs old, 343 lbs, 6'1, and a football player frame. Always been somewhat heavyset, but the past 15 yrs have been where I've really piled the weight on.

I'm doing a 5-6 small meals daily plan of lower fat, higher protein, moderate carbs.

Exercise I have to be careful with - I have a bad kidney that produces kidney stones at least yearly. Got one now in fact. So riding the bike isn't bad, but things where I'm bending or stretch alot and quickly cause lots of blood in my urine, and pain. Gonna hit the weights fairly hard - I think that should be fine.

History: Dad had his first heart bypass at 51, then another in his early 60s. One of his sisters keeled over dead at 40 from a coronary, and his other brothers and sisters all had heart problems. Oh, and my sister is having heart issues at the moment. Yeah, time for me to do it right this time. Mom died of a stroke. Time for me to set an example for my two teenaged kids.

Love the idea of having a mens support thread to hang out in. Looking forward to it - this time it's gonna happen. I have all the confidence in the world!
