You need hard rock music for lifting and/or crunches, something with a lot of grunting and drums!

veggie 07-07-2006 11:54 AM

I'm dog sitting 3 dogs  but I'm by the beach so that's ok. ;) My sister is getting a bus back from the lakes at 11, hmm bound to miss it!

Kyk don't forget pics! Of what I don't know but I just like pics. :D

YP1 07-08-2006 01:33 AM

Hi Kylie! We'll probably pass at the airport.

My dad is winding me up. He arrived yesterday and said he wanted to go to his mother's for lunch today. I said I had other plans (a run, washing and packing) which will take me most of the day, and that I didn't think I'd be able to make it.

I get in at midnight and he tells me he's arranged to go for lunch at 12.30. As my run will take me nearly 3 hours, then I need to wash, dry, pack etc that's not good. Plus my grandmother's idea of vegetarianism is of the "so you eat chicken" type, and while she's getting used to the idea I try to make sure we eat out rather than looking like too much of a faddy eater if she's cooked something I don't like. It annoys me anyway when people make plans without asking me, even worse when they've asked me and I've already said no.

I'm not cutting my run short just to go over, I had plans before he decided to come, and I want to stick to them, because it's the last long run I'll do for two weeks.

I've just had some pre-run quick acting energy (OK, chocolate), and I'm planning to head out at about 7. The plan is 16 - 17 miles!

YP1 07-08-2006 06:11 AM

I should have added that the reason I was a bit stroppy was probably because it's TOM... chocolate and a run to clear my head have appeased the TOM monsters though!

Anyway, the run is now done (16.7 miles in 2:43ish), and it was the best long run I've ever done with a mere 90 second walk break, and my overall pace faster than 10 minute miles. I think from a quick look through my programme that betwen rest weeks like next week and the taper for the last three weeks or so that's actually the fourth longest run I have to do, I just need to do 1 18 miler and 2 20 milers now, then the worst will be over. I can't believe how straight forward it's been to get to this point, and I definitely felt like I could have carried on for longer when I finished today.

The washing is in the machine, but we havecome to an arrangement. He will go over for lunch then come back for me when I'm done, and we'll go back there for the rest of the afternoon. So I get to cook myself something healthy (probably a fritatta with lots of veg) and do the rest of my jobs, but I'll still go over there later. It's not that I don't want to see them, but as we only need to be at the airport at about 8 I thought it would be more sensible to go over at about 3 or 4 on the way to the airport rather than for lunch when I have jobs I need to finish. So that's when I'll probably go, and he'll go over earlier.

Right, I suppose I should start the packing!

Sarah Ann 07-08-2006 07:00 AM

Have a nice time, Helen.

Families.... I bet your Dad doesn't know what to make of the different daughter that you've become. I was veggie for a few years and I know that older people don't understand it, especially the golden oldies that went through the War because meat was such a luxury to them that they can't understand anyone turning it down.

The barbeque was lovely last night. There were eight of us for dinner and my friend had decided to experiment by barbequing the really exotic kinds of fish you see on a good fish counter. I've forgotten all the names but I think some of them were red tilapia, red snapper (but that could have been the same thing) there was a yellow fish, tuna, monkfish and swordfish (lovely!!), trout, salmon, sardines (the fresh kind) - we all had a little bit of each. DH even tried the calamari!! She did a massive dish of prawns and bit size vegies with various different dips as a starter. Bless her - she remembered that I'm not eating fatty stuff so for dessert she'd made a virtually fat free baked lemon cheesecake with fresh strawberries which was so delish that I'm making it again myself tomorrow. (If it works I'll put the recipe on the recipe thread.)

So I was being VERY good - single glass of red wine... plenty of water... grilled fish... salad.... yoghurt & mint salad dressing... low fat cheesecake... strawberries.... - then I completely ruined it by pigging out on the biscuits, crackers and cheeses she put on the table at the end. (The combination of gorgonzola and Hovis digestive biscuits is GORGEOUS!)

So, to make up for all the calories, I've walked the dogs until George refused to go any further and I've cleaned all through downstairs and cleaned the windows and washed all the floors - and now I'm about to start an arms and back weights workout followed by abs and stretches - which should last about an hour and a quarter.

Yayyyyyyy the new saddle for my bike just arrived. Its a brand new bike and, like all new bikes, it came with one of those modern very narrow ones which are (IMHO) dreadful - it makes certain bits of me go numb if I ride it on rough terrain or for more than 20 minutes - so I bought a wide gell saddle off eBay (they call it a big bum seat!) It was blummin' expensive but I'm hoping I'll feel a bit more enthusiastic about using the bike now.

lou1978 07-08-2006 07:51 AM

oh i know all about sore bum from cycling..

I have a gel cover that goes over the saddel... the best option as i go spinning.. and cant change the bikes!... :p

BUT i must be getting used to it as i was in a hurry and left the gel thing in my locker... so left it .. did the class.. not as bad as i thought.. yay.. its quite heavy.. so will mot miss lugging it to n from work to gym etc... :carrot: :carrot:

ive been going 3x a week for a few months.. really noticing a diffrence... and my wt loss isnt so go the weeks i miss classes if ive been feelign a bit ropey.... however i wasnt feeling great today but went.. thiking it would help... an it did.. i think my heart rate is a bit low ok quite a bit.. (was 45 the other week! :dizzy: ) form pills im tasking but ive not taken em 4 a while.. so think need to go to drs... grrr

Hello everyone

I've been doing some serious housework, I got very dull. My husband is out
working, one son at his friends other son just mooching around the house.
One of my friends popped around this afternoon we sat in the garden and
caught up on the gossip.

I just had the most wonderful plate of veggie pasta, followed by a Yeo Farm
organic yoghurt they are just gorgeous.

A quiet evening for me tonight laying on my sofa reading.

I feel thinner today even though the scales havent shifted.

Have a lovely Saturday evening everyone

I just cried ... and cried and I've got earache now. Especially at the bit where the doctor and her were either side of that wall.... and when her Mum and Dad got back together.... and when Rose and the hologram doctor met on the beach. (Basically I cried through most of tonights programme - wahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!) DH thinks I'm nuts - its not like it hasn't been all over the media that she was leaving the programmme this week. I'm so glad they didn't kill her off. I really, really hope that Catherine Tate isn't the permanent replacement - I think I'll stop watching it if she is the new companion.

I really didn't think Billie Piper was going to be up to the job when Doctor Who first re-started but I really do think she has played the part very well, especially tonight. I even had a tearful watching Doctor Who Confidential.

Homersmummy 07-08-2006 07:49 PM

I want to start swimming. But, ok... I have FAT legs and well, where i've been fat since my teens I have discoloration where they have rubbed. *sorry folks!* I have looked at these swim dresses, I need something to cover it up.
The thought of going in the swimming baths in a costume terrifies me, because of my size. But, I seriously need to exercise now and I would love to go swimming.
I am thinking of joining the gym too. Mary (Smiler53) has found one that is cheap but excellent. I might go up and see what's what. Again, the thought of going terrifies me.

Any of you lovely ladies got any tips? I REALLY want to do this... the places are cheap. It's just being the size I am, it's putting me off.

Where exactly has the nearly 3 stone gone from?? *looks at self*

Catherine Tate isn't the replacement lol! (Although, being a Catherine Tate fan, I wouldn't have minded!) But, you know the woman who was in last weeks episode, turned into a cyberman troll thing? The one that lured the young men off and made them cybermen thingies? That is the new replacement.:( She's proper wooden. Can't act for toffee! I'm not looking forward to the new series.
Boohissboo. But, glad Rose didn't 'die'! I was led to believe she did, but as we now know she's actually doing dandy in a parallel universe. YAY!:carrot:

Sarah Ann 07-09-2006 01:29 AM

I'll have to go look Rose's replacement up on the net - I can't remember who you mean.

About swimming.... don't worry about your size. I know thats easier said than done but I'm going swimming two or three times a week now and there are some very big chicks there and nobody notices. Try going along on your swimming pool's Ladies Night - good fun!

In fact the ONLY woman that really stands out in my memory is one who makes a bit of a song and dance about her size - she wears a T shirt and a sort of full length skirt / sarong thing over the top of her cozzie. She climbs down in to the water with them on, wriggles out of the them and leaves them on the side and then puts them back on she gets back out. TBH if she hadn't been fully dressed when getting in to the pool then nobody would have given her a second glance but because of the strange outfit EVERYONE was watching her - especially the other big chicks!

Most people who want to be 'invisible' tend to wear a dark or black cozzie and get in to the water about 10 mins after the swimming session starts and leave about 10 mins before the end so you have the changing area to yourself.

I just looked her up and, you're right, her acting is a bit wooden - hopefully she'll relax in to it like Billie did.

micheleherts 07-09-2006 04:34 AM

Good morning everyone

Hommersmummy go for it. We all know how horrible it is to feel that people are looking at you, however as Sarah said it usually isn't the case. I remember the first time I did some exercise I joined the gym. I felt physically sick I really did, but I made myself go in there as I knew how important exercise is. You couldn't bottle how good
I felt afterwards and I never looked back. It will be the same for yourself. So
go out get yourself a cossie don't worry about finding dressy bits on the bottom and enjoy the freedom of being in the water gives you.

I just weighed myself and found I have lost half a pound I am now
ten stone three and a half pounds I am thrilled. Last night at my friends
house I resisted all kind of goodies that she offered.

I'm just off now to have egg on toast.

Have a peaceful Sunday everyone

Michele

Woops - sorry - didn't see the second bit! Gym is pretty much the same as swimming, really. It would help if you could go with a friend for the first couple of times until you feel comfortable. I think its fairly standard at most gyms that you will get to have an induction to show you how all the equipment works and, if the staff are the same as at my gym, they will be only to happy to help in any way they can. After a couple of times of going with DH and/or a friend I found that I prefer to work out on my own - just me and my iPod.

Actually.... I don't tend to find that people look at each other in the gym. I was in there last Wednesday and there were about 10-15 people there and most were concerned about getting their workout done as fast as they could without too much waiting around for equipment - and getting out of there - the remaining couple were the self obsessed sort who HOPE that people are watching them (but mostly they aren't!). It almost seems to be an unwritten rule that people ignore each other as much as possible. They are a much more sociable bunch in the swimming pool, especially on Ladies Night.

Search around though and you can find some real gems. My favourite is the local 'exercise to music' class I go to (the woman in charge doesn't want to tell the class members its aerobics and resistance training in case it scares them off). The women there are brilliant - all shapes, sizes, ages (17 to 75!) and fitness levels - you work at your own level and are gently encouraged to try a little harder each time. I get a very good workout but with lots of giggling and laughing. Key to successful non giggling is NOT to eat baked beans for breakfast.... :)

i got my swim stuff form landsend.co.uk they are shorts and a top...

Sarah Ann 07-09-2006 06:21 AM

Great website!!!!! I can feel a spending spree coming on......

lou1978 07-09-2006 07:01 AM

make sure u check thier sizes.. i think they are US sizes !!! i got myself quite confused lol

BritinNJ 07-09-2006 01:59 PM

Morning girls...well it is over here :)

Sarah Ann, if it is american sizes and you order, remember that lothing sizes here are two sizes doen from UK sizes in clothes, so if you're wearing a UK size 14, you'll fit into a US 12 here and in shoes it's the other way round...I'm a UK 6 in shoes....but wear US 8...

I have been busy the past two weeks, painting Hannah's room back to nice original white...over some ghastly blue colour some pratt painted it while we rented the house out, and I've also been tackling skirting boards, which is a real pain in the bum, so fiddley. My arms have got a work out from it, I can see muscles reforming shapes again, and with my lovely tan, I'm very pleased with them ...wish the rest of me would firm up and reshape...

I have a new DVD for my ball workout, might have a watch and see if I'm ready for it, the first fundamentals is great, I sweat like a pig and ache for two days, so this second one is supposed to be a tad harder...I'll watch and see before trying...don't want to hurt myself....

Nearly pool time....the water temp is 90 degrees now, hubby is coming home next week for his birthday and threatening to turn the airator on to cool it down, I may have to break his arms...

HM... don't worry about what you look like at the gym or swimming, and I actually would tell you not to buy a cossie with a skirt on it, they hinder you when you swim, and if you tread water, the skirt flows up and can be quite annoying... I have a bikini bottom with a little skirt type thingy on it and it drives me mad.

As Sarah Ann said, going to the gym, no one looks at you, most people are there for the same reason as you, to get fit and healthy, and once you start you're exercise routine, you'll likely meet loads of people who will be as thrilled for you with your loss and reshaping as you are...same with the swimming....go for it lovey and let us know how you get on :)

cherrycupcake 07-09-2006 02:22 PM

I am very shy about going anywhere on my own but I was so desperate to join the gym I had to go on my own. I was sick with nerves going in and all the way through the session. I still joined though and it only took me about 3 or 4 sessions to relax and enjoy it. From then on i felt really comfortable and didn't care. I agree that everyone is busy concentrating on what they are doing to notice anyone else. There are all ages, shapes and sizes of men and women at the gym i go to. I've even got talking to a few people. I love it. It's the best thing i ever did for myself, I only wish I didn't work full time, I would go everyday if I had the chance. I can't believe I am saying this. I used to hate exercise and I have been a regular at the gym for over 6 months now!!
Just go for it!

lou1978 07-09-2006 06:37 PM

we did it !!!!!!!!!!! and didnt end up falling of the back of the tredmill, splatting ourselves on the back wall etc..

1st lot of 2mins run 4 min walking x 3 .... + we cycled 2 and from the gym and had a dip in the pool after!... i think im going to sleep well !!

is a speed of 7.9km/hr ok 4 running????? we did near 2k in 20mins..
we couldnt hold a conversation... 6.0 felt like a fast walk...

going to try n get to spinning tomorrow... (day off running)

better get to bed.. work in the am....

nite .. Lou x

micheleherts 07-10-2006 05:31 AM

Good morning everyone

Hope all is well with you all. I have the sortest tongue in the world
it is covered in mouth ulcers. Last week I got hugely stressed hence the ulcers.
Oh well at least it isn't a coldsore, I dont' even like saying that word just in
case it tempts something. I must pop to Boots and get some Cordosyl or
something.

My son has loaded some songs on to his Nano for me to take to the gym bless
him there is a section called Mum's gymlist. I am thrilled with it.

The scales are still showing ten stone 3 and a bit I am going to do my hardest
to get into the nines. Good going for a girl who was once fifteen stone
and five feet tall!!

It's my day off today, I'm sat here in my vest and knickers all gormless.

My Kerry has eaten a big hole in youngest son's PE top. Naughty bold rabbit!

Have a lovely day everyone

Michele

Sarah Ann 07-10-2006 06:45 AM

Michele - that is a BRILLIANT loss! You'll get to the nines soon.

Ouch about the mouth ulcers. My sister gets them as an allergic reaction to pineapple and a couple of other foods. Touch wood, I've only ever had one of them when I was pregnant but I do get cold sores though. I did once ask a doctor what triggers them and the list was staggering - sunshine, stress, TOM, just about anything really! I only get one or two a year but usually at the most inconvenient time. Now that I've said that, I'll probably wake up with one tomorrow!

Enjoy your day off.

I've got my aerobics class this afternoon. :) Its amazing... so far I've taken along three other people with me on three successive weeks - and each one of them has come up with a really complicated excuse for not going the following week. I dunno why, its a great workout and the people are lovely. If they don't want to exercise at this stage of their lives then thats their choice but its like they think that I won't want to be friends with them if they don't come up with a good reason for not going!

Doz this face look bovvered? :)

PhatPhoenix 07-10-2006 06:58 AM

You're all doing so well! I'm not a social animal - usually prefer to exercise alone. But I', enjoying my yoga DVDs so much am thinking of finding a real Noddy beginners' yoga class. Wonder if I'll pluck up the courage? You lot are inspiring me now!

Sarah Ann 07-10-2006 07:36 AM

Go for it! I enjoy exercising alone as well (walking, lifting weights, swimming, abs, stretches, yoga, etc) but I do enjoy my Monday aerobics class. Before I went for the first time I was sure that I would hate it but I'm finding it great to be able to talk to the instructor about any questions I've got about what I'm doing and where I'm going with my exercise / nutrition - but best of all is the other women who are a lovely and very funny bunch.

Sarah Ann 07-10-2006 08:16 AM

You gotta laugh.... (arghhh!)

DH had his windscreen shatter by (he thinks) a loose road chip that came up from an oncoming car (or maybe someone shot at him - who knows!) No problem - its insured and they guarantee a 24 hour service! He phoned the insurance company which is through a major roadside assistance company and they say they will get their specified windscreen fixing sub-contractor type person to phone DH telling him when his 'appointment window' will be.

He arranged for them to ring me and I just had the phone call.... AND THE :censored: 'APPOINTMENT WINDOW' IS BETWEEN 2AM AND 3AM .... thats right AM - yes, the AM thats in the middle of the night - the one that normally happens when I'm asleep!!!

When I expressed a little mild surprise (and possibly some confusion) I was told that they are a 24 hour service - and that the only windows they've got available for the next few days are between 2am to 3am or, alternatively 3am to 4am. I had to agree to 2am to 3am because DH leaves for work at 5am and if I agreed to the later window they couldn't agree to get it fixed in time. Oh goody.

Now... when someone next says they do a 24 hour service I recommend that you double check what their definition of a 24 hour service actually is!

OMG - the neighbours are gonna love us!

kykaree 07-10-2006 09:21 AM

 24 hour service

Don't you be getting up to attend to it, and buy yourself some ear plugs.

I'm :dizzy: today, keep having to be reminded what continent I am in :D

veggie 07-10-2006 10:01 AM

Interesting 24 hour service there... :dz:  :coffee:

Look out the window Kyk if it's raining you're in The North. I love this rain I hope it stays until August at least. :D :p

2frustrated 07-10-2006 11:08 AM

No more Dr Who spoilers :nono: We've only just watched the 2 parter with the devil thing! I'll miss Billie

I'm so full of food. Been on the road all day, have cold, feel ill and all carb-coma-ry. Got to teach small brats kickboxing in a bit. Gah! Can't I just go to bed. Any ideas what I can do with them that involves not moving much?

Pachyderm 07-10-2006 11:10 AM

Welcome back Kykaree. It's a shame that you have missed all the really hot weather, and now it's :censored: awful again in time for your return.

I am back to running again. I went out for the first time yesterday, and I think that I am all better. I'm going to be doing some more exercise on my rest days now as well, so hopefully my fitness will improve in leaps and bounds.

On Saturday I bought myself the most beautiful pair of shoes :D as a reward for reaching my second mini goal early, and then today I have gone up a pound despite my good eating and exercise  . Anyway, I've never really been into shoes before, but they are great because they'll still fit at my goal weight. I spent the rest of the week tearing my house apart, sorting through things to take to jumble sales or try to sell in order to make more space. Finally put my bedroom back together in the early hours last night....and I have just the same amount of floor and cupboard space as before :?: Now I'm very tired and I will definately be having an early night tonight!

Sarah, evil windscreen fitters  I hope you can get a lie in tomorrow!

Pachyderm 07-10-2006 11:15 AM

Frus, I bet you could get through a lot of the lesson by making them up their general fitness by doing circuit training. Then you can just stay in one pace and shout :coach:

Sarah Ann 07-10-2006 11:23 AM

Welcome back Kylie - do you get jet lag with an Australia - UK trip or is that only from a west to east air journey?

Its still very warm here, dry and windy but cloudy. Feels like there might be a storm later.

I'm going to get up to deal with the windscreen people - its not DH's fault that it happened and he's got to go to work tomorrow whereas I, technically, could stay in bed all day if I wanted to - not that I ever do. I do so hope they don't show up at 2.55!

I'm just back from my exercise class - she finished off by doing some pelvic floor exercises and then told us we should get our husbands/partners to do it as well because it protects them from prostate problems. Interesting - I didn't know that. It also has another effect on them which I shan't go in to here - enough to say that with regular practice they may not need any viagra in the future!

Sarah Ann 07-10-2006 11:24 AM

[quote=Pachyderm]Anyway, I've never really been into shoes before, but they are great because they'll still fit at my goal weight. quote]

Don't count on it - I've now gone down a whole shoe size!

Pachyderm 07-10-2006 11:36 AM

Sarah, I was the same shoe size before I put on the weight, so I'm sure they'll still be ok. They are really nice, my skinny and trendy supermodel type sister is very jealous of them. Hehehe!

kykaree 07-10-2006 11:37 AM

Yep jet lag is apparently worse going to UK than going to Australia. I find it's hard to get back into routine, so the sooner you start, the better it is. So I only got back Saturday and am in work already. I am going to the gym in a minute for a quick workout, just to start getting used to it again.

Sarah Ann 07-11-2006 04:07 AM

Well, I was wrong. Mr Windscreen Fixit didn't show up at 2.55am - it was 2.59am - yawn! It took ages to fix, probably because the poor bloke was exhausted - he told me he's got a full time day job as well so he only gets 4 hours sleep each day. As he drove off he clipped the reflective post at the end of the road - scary! I didn't bother going back to bed, just took the dogs for an early walk, did some eBay stuff and now I'm going to have a LONG nap.

Pachyderm 07-11-2006 04:23 AM

Poor you! That is quite worrying about the windscreen fitter, in reality I think that it is just as dangerous to be tired as to be drunk while driving. I certainly concentrate less even if I'm a little tired (like now, the number of typos I made while typing this was quite impressive).

Have a good day everyone.

Sarah Ann 07-11-2006 09:07 AM

OMG - that was a very long nap - I probably won't sleep tonight now.

I missed swimming :( I think I'll do some yoga - not quite the same but just as nice in its own way.

What happened to the weather? When I went back to bed this morning it was cloudy and windy and now its hot and summy with a light breeze!

micheleherts 07-11-2006 01:11 PM

Hello everyone

I could do with a sleep myself, but I am going out with two friends and Ken the dog walking. I went to the gym last night and worked really hard I was a right
sweaty betty.

My mouth is a little less sore today thank god.

Lovely to see you back Kykaree.

Take good care everyone

Michele
