Just back from swimming. :) It was jam packed for the first half hour but the water was quite cool so people started leaving and it got better. I as the only person swimming for the last 10 minutes. I'm trying to swim a mile but I am a VERY slow swimmer and the more I try and speed up the slower I seem to go.
I love tuna and pasta salad. I make mine with home made lime mayonnaise and a touch of chopped garlic, coriander and chilli - yum. I know what I'm going to have for dinner tomorrow night! DH came home with a GREAT 'keep cool in the hot weather tip' - sounds weird but house can be cooler at night if you open the loft hatch - we tried it out and it worked! |
That's all well and good if you live in a house with a loft ;) Try living in a stupidly well-insulated apartment block with double glazing and noisy :censored: Ambulances screeching past the window at all hours of the night... Ah dontcha just love London! And we're not even in the centre! I want to live in the coun-tree with the hedgehogs and shooting stars
|
Ah yes! Been there, done that! I have very miserable memories of a very hot summer in a rented top floor flat in West Hampstead - I got a bad attack of chickenpox so I couldn't leave the flat and just when I was okay my daughter (who was only 2 at the time) came down with it as well. We had a solid month in that flat and only one of the windows would open - the rest were painted or nailed shut. I lost 2 stone in 4 weeks! The rest of the house was full of students whose sole aim in life was to PARTY 24/7!
Sorry, Frus, but the loft hatch trick works if you've got one! |
Sounds like a nightmare! If only we could afford a nice house in the country AND the season ticket to commute into London!
|
yup frus... were in N1.. well almost...
just no air moving at all.... and no loft.. being ground floor flat... grrr... i want a house... !... we might have to move soon... so will just have to wait! wont be in london tho!... we were mghtmove 2 we could get a 3 bed detached for the same price as this 2bed flat... !... but my london weighting would cover me for travel.. (and i would still have a bit extra) so would be benifit... |
Oh, more developments on the old KB front! I told Lee that I was still p'd off last night. I am, it's still lame. And he kinda squirmed. Then he proposed I organised something!!! What a cheek! Only a minute before he'd said, "Oh you're going to be so busy with the wedding and your half marathon, you probably won't be able to train as much as you want." So he does KNOW that I'm busy!
And pregnant girl, who was going to come and stay with us for the weekend with her blokie e-mailed me today and asked where we were staying. I told her I didn't know and she should yell at Lee! She is just as mad as I was! :lol3: I think Lee is going to get a good ear-bashing this afternoon! I've been instructed to go kick his ***! :boxing: |
2 frus - it is to hot to yell - just kick butt!
On the home front I am 13 floors up with windows that don't open much and living in hospital accommodation we get ambulances screeching past all the time. Mindyou - them I can cope with - we are also near a main road and get screechy people going past at all hours. Plus the lifts go up and down all night and you hear the front door shut hard as well. Oh and the blasted planes! However, I would find the country too quiet. I would wonder what the noise was (owls, Hedgehogs snuffling etc). Mindy you when I go to my Aunt's in Croydon I hear the Foxes. |
Planes! We used to hear the planes in Hounslow. Never bothered us too much though.
DF has a cold. he's just rung me up to see if I can "come home early" ie miss kickboxing. I told him not really. I think he's pissed off. I'm torn. Bugritt! |
Why should you come home early cos someone else has a cold???! Or does he usually give you a lift??
|
Nope, he wants me to go home and look after him! Personally I'd tell him to toughen up, but he sounded so sad when I put the phone down.
He's really insecure and he doesn't like me being "out all the time" and he did come home early (ie not work late) when I was off work with a cold, but then stayed out late Weds and Thurs  He will conveniently "forget" that he didn't come home then! |
Hello!!! I'm back!!! And I'm prolonging the holiday vibe by sitting in the garden in a bikini drinking red wine and making the most of wireless internet. I feel surprisingly awake considering my flight home was at 1am, I landed at Manchester at 5 and then got the train to Leeds, went straight into work then lugged my case home on the bus at the end of the day.
Not sure how awake I'll feel at 5.30 tomorrow though when I attempt a 5 mile run.... I ran twice while I was away in the end which I was quite pleased with. They weren't long runs, and I didn't go out often, but I did something other than swimming, and it's quite hard to run there with the heat and the wind (really strong winds in my mum's town - it's a big centre for windsurfing) and the locals doing the Spanish version of the passegiata. I had to develop a fantastic sidestep to get round some of the old biddies out for their evening constitutional! But the big news of the holiday is... I went for another round of sales shopping and I bought some trousers. I wore them to travel back in last night and they are... SIZE 10!!! I haven't been on the scales since I got back, and I don't intend to for a few days, but even though I expect to be up a little I suspect that it won't be too bad as I was relatively good, for a holiday at least. That might change after this bottle of wine though, it's very drinkable and it's very pleasant sitting here getting a bit more sun. |
Size 10!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goodness me.
Oh and welcome back! |

Hope you're all surviving the HOT weather over there, my Mum said she's keeping her curtains closed and her fans on and she feels cooler that way, I'll have to tell her about the loft door though, thanks for that tip Sarah. It's HOT here too, and humid as we're in monsoon season, we actually had a smattering of rain drops tonight, it was lovely for the ten minutes it lasted, then it just felt horrible and more humid, I've cooled down now with a late night swim in the pool....let me see if I can put a pic in for you all to look at and it may help you cool down.... |
:( OK, can't figure out how to add pics anymore.....Veggie, help please :) Remind me how to do it, or anyone else who knows....I only asked Veggie first cos I know she knows ;)
|
That's the advantage of going for a run in Spain - I went out for my 5 miles this morning and it felt cool!!! I'm glad I've got that out of the way and I'm back into routine, only 2 months til Berlin now!
Must remember to throw my dad's chocolate digestives out of the house on my way to work. He bought a pack, ate three and then left them here. Last night they caught my eye and I ate too many :o so they're going in the bin to stop that happening again. I can go for months or years without buying them and without missing them, but once they're in the house I'm addicted. |
Argh chocolate digestives are the  food! Welcome back, well done on your 10s skinny minny ;)
Well I missed kickboxing to "look after" DF and guess what - he worked late. I'm so MAD  again! MEN! UGH! I was getting a bit heatstrokey though. Never mind. Missed my early morning run, not coping too well with this heat. Have quite a big headache brewing, drank about 11L water yesterday, went to sleep at half 9, woke at 4am, then when the alarm went off at 10 to 6 I wasn't feeling too bright at all. :headache: It's the heat. I just can't cope :hot: I need to lie in a darkened room. |
 to everyone 'Down South' - its hot here but the radio is saying that you will be getting it even hotter.
 My friend went to pick up her kids from school and as she stood chatting to the other mums she didn't realise that the pavement was so hot that it had slightly melted the underside of her flipflops. When she took a step forward, her flipflops didn't and she toppled over. Actually, flipflops are blummin dangerous - I fell going up the stairs in mine the other day - they seem to almost grip the carpet. I've given up with cooking - its TOO hot. Even BBQ-ing was a misery last night, so tonight we're going out for dinner - just me and 'im. I've booked a table at a (cheap) pub which is by a river where we can sit under a canopy and, best of all, they specialise in cooking fish spectacularly well. Yum! |
Choc Digestives - yuck! Now... give me a plain digestive with a nice piece of Gorgonzola and I'm your girl!
Size 10!!!! Brilliant! Helen, what size were you when you started your new way of life? Frus - being hot is miserable. |
I don't feel particularly hot and sweaty, but it's gone to my head! I don't like stupid headaches! :tantrum: I don't feel too hot sitting here, but my head is pounding! I even took an antihistamine since I thought I might have hayfever, since I have a permanently runny nose and I'm very very thirsty, but it doesn't seem to have helped :dunno:
|
Sounds like 'flu! Have you got a temperature?
|
You think I'd notice in this heat?
No but I have had a cold recently (last Tuesday was off work with it) I'm thinking the sniffles are from me getting over that, but TBH I am always snuffly and blowing my nose and sniffy :dunno: I think it's biking, temperature changes and exercise that brings it out the worst. And I am drinking a helluva lot recently, but I've noticed that when I exercise I sweat more too... Probably the heat! |
Just take it easy - don't work out too hard in this heat. How about going swimming rather than going to the gym?
|
It's great - the gym is the coolest place! I'm quite glad I missed kickboxing - we don't get drink breaks much on Tuesdays. Something I am breaking away from in my classes, however none of the kids move enough to warrant them drinking at the moment!
There's no pool nearby and I couldn't do the getting dry thing in time to get back after lunch! I really love to swim and got fairly decent at a half mile but I hate getting changed afterwards! I  my air conditioned gym! :D |
i think im just going to go n sit in teh gym.. lie on a mat or something hehe..
|
My gym isn't air conditioned - well... its got one blower which isn't very efficient and you only get the benefit if you use one particular treadmill - on the rest of the equipment you just swelter.
I'm going swimming again today. Yesterday they opened all the outside doors and, after the crowd thinned out, it was lovely. I might just go from 12.30 to 1.30. |
I'm so bright... I just had a hot chocolate!
It's a white chocolate options one and it's been sitting on my desk for a few days so I thought, "I'm not too hot, I'll give it a go!" :hot: I'm sweating like a horse now and I haven't moved out of my chair! |
I went to my air conditioned gym this morning and worked my butt off with a combo of cardio and lifting. I had a caramel frappacino on the way into work! It was lovely!
I'm really struggling for summer clothes, am in jeans today! With a white lace top. Shhhhh don't tell anyone but the top is underwear  I got five singlets in Oz and they're too pretty to hide under clothes! I keep trolling Ebay but there ain't much out there at present, everyone too hot and busy to sit at their puters and sell clothes! |
2 Frus - you are a nut!!
|
lol @ frus....
crazy dasiy ! |
Karma!!
That's what it is! Karma, plain and simple! There was me laughing at 2 Frus for having a HOT chocolate. What do I do? I Swallow half a tube of lip gloss! It has got so runny in this heat. I had a 'durgle' of it hanging from my lip and concentrating on stopping it, some slipped off my lips and into my mouth! It does not taste very nice. Ugh! Wonder how many syns in that???! |
Ewwwwwwwwww @ lippy and choccie!
Just back from swimming - better than yesterday - everyone must have thought that there'd be loads of people there, so nobody bothered going. There was only me and about half a dozen others. Cor - one of the men who sits waiting for people to drown has got the most AMAZING pair of suntanned, muscular legs - in fact most of him is pretty gorgeous - from the neck down! The downside of being nice and cool and clean was having to ride my bicycle home :( The farmers round and about are harvesting and there are clouds of these little black thunderbugs all of which like pale or light colours. By the time I got home my pale pink tank top was smothered - yuck. Ky, you're right - it IS to hot to list stuff on eBay. I'm just doing auto re-lists, nothing new. Its too hot to set up the cameras and do all that kind of racing round. Just had phone call from DH - our lovely dinner for two is now going to be a not so nice dinner for six! I've decided to raid my stock for something to wear tonight - I've had my eye on a lovely chocolate colour Monsoon silk top which I couldn't justify keeping - but seeing as it has now been for sale twice and hasn't sold, I'm giving it a new home in my wardrobe. ;) |
I went to the gym at lunch just to cool off! I'm so glad I went - I did chest and abs and tried a pull-up or two!!! I can bend my arms anyway, which is progress from just hanging like a limp noodle! |

Thanks for the info Veg, I knew you'd be there for me. Stay cool all.... |
I'll have a gin and slim line tonic please as I sit by the pool!
|
That better not be your pool :p I'm dying of the heat! I can't take it! I want rain and a pool.
|
just a quick question... do all the new skinnies find the summer better..... for losing the weight not so hot etc...
or if you dont like it is it coz you just dont like it hot.. no matter how skinny you got? my skin is fair... i think i will hate it anyway.... i burn like a crisp in the usn.. it doesnt take long either.. thats with factor 50! lol .... i balme my dad... my baby bro (hes 6!) is proper ginger.. !... |
It is my pool, ten steps out of the back door and I can jump right in...Ky, I have the gin and tonic ready luv, come on over.
Lou, I don't know about being slimmer or lighter making it cooler, but I was about thirty pounds heavier when we first lived here, and I was dying with the temps, but now I love the temps and feel freezing when it goes down to the sixties in the winter...but they say you aclimbatize here, so don't know if it's weight related or not, sorry. I've just taken my hubby to the airport, he was home for five days and it was wonderful. Now I have three weeks and we'll be having the fun of getting packed up again and starting heading to Cape Cod :) Have a good one all...keep cool. |
I'm a lot more comfortable in the heat this year - I've been wandering round all day wondering what all the fuss is about! Partly though it's because I've just come back from spending the days sunbathing in Spain, and also because I'm wearing far less than I ever dared before...
I've had a lovely evening sitting drinking wine and eating olives in the park, and walked about 3 miles instead of getting the bus all the way home. I love summer! Sarah - I started at about size 22. I'm not a proper 10 yet, more of a "gets into a 10 in shops that have a generous cut in loose fitting clothes" sort of 10, but I remember the days when my dream was to be that sort of 14, so I'll take it with pleasure!!! |
