Pachyderm 07-05-2006 09:02 AM

Have you been at the Red Bull Frus?!

Sarah Ann 07-05-2006 09:08 AM

I don't think the Police took his complaint too seriously - they told me about it with big smiles on their faces. They did ask what footwear I had on (girlie pink slip on trainers) and I'm a plump, middle-aged and middle class woman - the sort that, in their mind, isn't going to be able to inflict much damage. They aren't to know that I work out and press 100k with my legs - and run up and down hills each day :)

Anyway, Mrs C has popped round to apologise for all the fuss - bought me a lovely bunch of flowers - and said she's always wanted to do to her DH what I did to him last night. She's asking the Police to press charges against him and, as there's a history of similar incidents, it looks like they'll actually do something about it this time.

I've never heard of that New York Ballet workout video - is it good? What sort of workout?? I'm just back from doing a legs w/o at the gym followed by an hour swim. I might not combine them together in the future - I kept getting cramp in my legs while I was swimming.

veggie 07-05-2006 09:42 AM

Sarah! You hooligan!

Poor Frus talking to herself on the June thread... :D

2frustrated 07-05-2006 01:03 PM

I had a nice time at the gym :D

The New York City Ballet is a nice ballet workout with stretches and some leg work and some cardio. It's quite good. I did it about 3 times a week a couple of years ago and really saw improvement in my bum! :o I don't think it would be very challenging for you Sarah, it's not an intense workout, but it's nice for stretching and lengthening your muscles, because a lot of things are done with a pointed toe.

I've got to go, this laptop is heating up my legs too much! Must carry on tidying the pigsty... Then NYCB when I can get revved up for it :D

Sarah Ann 07-05-2006 02:08 PM

I like stretches - I do a yoga stretching routine for 30 minutes every other day. I shall keep an eye out for it on eBay

Things are very quiet here today - I've had a few of the other neighbours knock to tell me they were about to do what I did but I did it first. Hmmmmmmmm! Mr C has been escorted to collect some of his possessions and one of his many cars and Mrs C has imported her chav Mum to act as child minder (Burberry check shorts and boob tube??)

BritinNJ 07-05-2006 03:38 PM

Whoa Sarah Ann, your neighbourhood is exciting! Good for you for a kick in the dangly bits...no less that Mr. C. deserved.

Last summer we had a conflab with our neighbs, 12.30 midnight we're sitting out back talking, my Mum and her man were over here and we hear all this yelling out front...I went upstairs into my son's room to find him awake and looking out his side window... the neighbour was staggering up and down his pathway yelling obsenities at the top of his lungs...we watched for a while and he kept banging on his front door, so we thought maybe he'd locked himself out...Hannah was awake by then too, so I woke Dave and asked him to go out and see what all the fuss was about.

He went out and asked the neighb, also Dave, what was up and neighb boy, got all bolshie and kept telling or trying to tell my Dave not to cross his threshold, it was quite funny as he was so piddled he couldn't say thershold, so said line instead after a couple of stumbles with the word. Dave told him he needed to quiet down and go indoors and he was still yelling obsenties at the door, his bloody great rottie was barking and howling from indoors and then he started to swing for Dave who dodged which wasn't hard as neighb was so drunk...I called the police then and we came back into our driveway.

The cops made me laugh as they parked by the side of my house and crept around to the front of our house with their guns drawn and torches, neighb boy was rolling and crawling through his front bushes by this time, swearing and thrashing about, and the cops asked us where he was...they wanted to surprise him with using torches, but as they passed my driveway, my sensor light came on and they were flooded in light!

He didn't notice anyway, he was too sh**faced to have a clue, they pulled him out the bushes and asked what he was doing and they called the fire dept and the paramedics, so we had five emergency vehicle out front....and they're not quiet in the middle of the night... neighb boy then started throwing up all over the cops and paramedics, and finally his girlfriend opened the front door... and asked what was happening? She told the cops that she thought he was upstairs asleep....turns out, he'd had a few pops at her and chased her out front, but she was quicker than him and got back inside and locked him out.

I don't know why she didn't call the police herself, she was really scared and had horrible bruises the next day, she had to police take him indoors and he passed out and she had a friend come and take her to her house, bus she came back the next day and asked my Dave to come with her into the house to collect some stuff as she was staying away from him....Dave went with her and neighb boy didn't have a clue what had happened, doesn't remember a thing...she didn't press charges against him, although she could have and he'd have woken up in jail the next day...she came back to him about two weeks later, and they say hi, if we see them out front, but they're a little too weird for my liking and I think he's still mad at us cos I called the police...but I'd do it again, so kudo's to you Sarah...and I also think the wife should have given you a lot more than flowers to thank you, but at least you got an appology....that's something at least...keep us posted. :)

By the way, it rained this morning, first time in about five months, was lovely to see little rain drops hitting the pool....humid as anything though, monsoon season is upon us :)

Have a good one all....

YP1 07-05-2006 03:51 PM

Wow, you all get far more excitement than I do! I think on balance I'll stay here though...

Busy day today, I ran 8 miles before work, have loads of stuff to finish off before I go on holiday, and had to interview someone to be my new assistant. I'm not sure about her, but on the basis we haven't had any more promising CVs through we may well ask her back for a second interview. Then I worked late and only got back at about 8.

For the first time in ages I've been having really bad fast food cravings. I think it was through working late and the fact that the bus stop is by a huge row of takeaways, but if I hadn't had food waiting for me in the fridge I think I'd have weakened. As it was I had some nut loaf and a vegetable stir fry planned, so I braved it out til I got home. Success!

Now I've just got loads of jobs to do, I'm out tomorrow night and Dad arrives on Friday morning, plus I've got to wash and pack for my holidays. I suppose I'd better get on with it rather than spending the rest of the evening on the internet...

And I might be getting my new iPod tomorrow :carrot:

2frustrated 07-06-2006 04:07 AM

Ick - I fell face-first into what little snack food we have lying around the house. DF came back so very late, I was bored and hungry so of course I ate lots, and then felt ill and pissed off with myself.

Never mind. I weighed myself this morning to concentrate the mind! Not a pretty sight. *sigh* Going to fake it again today! At least I will be occupying myself by kickboxing tonight, that should stop me raiding the cupboards!

lou1978 07-06-2006 04:37 AM

2frustrated 07-06-2006 10:03 AM

Oh but it's nice to be in demand ;)

micheleherts 07-06-2006 10:25 AM

Hello everyone

No weight loss and not too much exercise this week either. Ate like a complete pig at the beginning of the week but now my period is here it has settled again, and I am in a great mood, rare my family would probably say!

I havent done much apart from watch footie, footie and more
footie. Oh and I watched that programme again how to look good nakey.
I think I am obsessed.

This heat has been so draining we have one of those giant paddling pools
in the garden so I have been floating around in that in a rubber ring with my
youngest son. He helps me in and calls me nanna!!! Oh what a larf my boy is.

Speaking of boys mine shall be home from school shortly so I had best shift
myself.

Have a lovely evening everyone

Michele

lou1978 07-06-2006 10:46 AM

yup true frus.....

i didn't even try too hard lol... but she said i interviewed well.... :dizzy:

oh well trying to get hold of the sister about hte other post as i need to know wahts going on so i can say yes or no to the MRI job..

oh my head...

i have to do n sort out drug lables (fun fun fun in PICU towers!)... some fool ordered ones we never use.. grr.... they are quite expensive too...
they will miss me when i go.. (they know im going... ) well i would like to think lol..

Sarah Ann 07-06-2006 10:52 AM

I've had a lovely day - we went over to Kilnsea to walk the dogs on the beach - I wonder how many other people do a 3 hour round trip just to walk their dogs! We've also got another dog 'on loan' for a couple of days while her owners go to some flower show or other - I thought my dogs were active but she's like the duracell bunny, she just keeps on going. She's great - a black lab just like mine - so she fits in well.

I kinda slipped up when it came to lunch though - there is a gorgeous little baker in Patrington which made these very cheap and delicious bacon and cheese pastry turnover thingies... its my free day so I thought I'd treat myself to one... but a second one slid down very quickly as well. (Tricky things those turnovers!) We've been invited out to dinner tonight so I'm trying to plan my strategy for a meal in a restaurant we haven't been to before. Probably prawn salad without the dressing again. :(

Sarah Ann 07-06-2006 10:55 AM

You probably interviewed well because you weren't desperate about getting the job so you came across as relaxed and in control.

I hope you get the job you want :crossed:

2frustrated 07-06-2006 10:57 AM

Sarah - how about grilled salmon? Or take a wild and fancy free day. It might do you some good :D

Sarah Ann 07-06-2006 11:18 AM

Hmmmm - not salmon, we eat a lot of salmon at home - but maybe another kind of fish. We were a bit disappointed, the last time they came over here for dinner and they were raving on about the new Indian restaurant in their village so when they asked us out for dinner we thought we'd be going there - and we were delighted because we love nicely cooked spicy food - but then they phone to arrange to meet at a hotel-pub-restaurant place which is mid-way between our homes. :(

veggie 07-06-2006 11:25 AM

Lou I like your pic. :)

I've just watched that Fiona Bruce programme about wls for teenagers  that American doc telling the 15 (I think) year old his only chnace now was wls! I know frus mentioned it the other day but I just got bored of BB and watched it. ;)

Pachyderm 07-06-2006 11:28 AM

Sarah, shame about the restaurant, maybe next time though.

I hope you get some good news about the other job Lou, but as Frus said, it's nice to be in demand.

I'm probably going out to dinner tonight as well. I am going late-night shopping with my mum and sister and my mum thinks that it would be a lovely treat to go out for dinner. Unfortunately I know we'll be heading for a quick dinner in a greasy italian place or something similar, rather than the nice stir-fry I had planned at home. Never mind. I will just have to try and restrain myself from having a whole pizza to myself!

Have a good evening everyone

2frustrated 07-06-2006 11:34 AM

Veggie - I'm just glad that the kid on the program decided to actually give calories in vs calories out a go! Like WLS is an EASY option. :tantrum: I don't think so!

Sarah Ann 07-06-2006 11:37 AM

People seem to be being offer WLS more and more nowadays. I just wish they'd show more programs about what happens when it all goes wrong.

2frustrated 07-06-2006 11:57 AM

I saw an advert for WLS in the Daily Mail! The "before" pictures weren't even that bad for chrissakes! They said they'd lost 7stone... Hello! Diet + Exercise = weight loss, even 7 stones of it, we are living proof that you can do it without being chopped to pieces. :tantrum:

PhatPhoenix 07-06-2006 12:06 PM

I keep seeing people who have had it on forums posting and saying it isn't easy you still have to watch what you eat and exercise - so it does seem to me to be pointless. Why not, er... watch what you eat and exercise?

Also, after even a few days of eating well, your stomach shrinks and you stop craving bad things after about 3 days if you avoid them... what's wrong with doing that? I saw a show about a woman whose surgery went wrong and she's now going to die if she can't have some other surgery... but it's the US and because the WLS made her ill, she had to stop work - no insurance, no surgery. They will literally let her die. All her hair and teeth fell out, as well. If people saw that before taking what they think is an easy option, they might think again. If it's not, in itself, 100% a magic bullet - you're going to have to knuckle down anyway. So why bother?

Here there are other implications - why should the NHS pay for it?

veggie 07-06-2006 12:43 PM

I keep saying I'll have wls if I'm not thin (ish) before I'm 40. I doubt I would though I hate hospitals! :p Can you have home wls? ;)

lou1978 07-06-2006 01:29 PM

thanks veggie... i took it meself hahah...

I'm always in demand in this place lol... everyone thinks i know whats going on.. but i miss ALL the gossip grr..

pp - i had huge issues with chocholate...(i contacted an eating disorder grop.. i think its nothing that bad.. as i dont binge now..) I could eat 2 BIG bags (the cinema kinda size) of malteasers, BIG buttons or similar in one go.. etc...(i was off sick @ the time n quite depressed so that didnt help) even we went to my gf parents house i went to the shop b4 she was up to get "supplies for b'fast" so she wouldnt know haha.. BUT.... since doing SW I did avoid for a few weeks..(getting to the point! lol)

and now im finding the reward on the scales much better than the pleasure of eating rubbish.... BUT i sometimes allow myself a 3 pack of jaffa cakes.. BUT once they are gone thats it... and I've counted them in my allowance.

YP1 07-07-2006 01:29 AM

I'll be glad when today's over! I've been so busy at work this week I feel like I'm just running around the whole time, plus trying to sort stuff out for my holiday. This morning I'm a bit more sane, but still up early on my rest day so that I can use my normal gym time to get into work early and get some work done in the hope I can leave at 5 tonight.

And then I'm FREEEEEE!

For 10 days at least.

Meanwhile my dad is meant to be arriving at some point, so I'm trying not to wander too far round the house in just my underwear. I'm not sure that's the sight he'll fancy being greeted with when he arrives (he picked up a hire car at the airport). Chances are I might not see him until tomorrow lunchtime though - if I leave the house before he gets here, then I'm out late tonight, and out for a long run tomorrow morning possibly before he gets up. Then I have to wash and pack - I'm glad my flights only at 10 at night!

2frustrated 07-07-2006 03:52 AM

That sounds like a busy busy day Helen - where are you off to? Spain again?

Did some good kickboxing last night, decided to take it easy sparring and still ended up sweating like a horse! I went to wipe my face on my shoulder and it just squelched! I don't usually sweat on my ARMS!

DF rolled home at midnight waking me up by trying to do the washing up that I'd asked him to do last night  My friend is coming to stay and we're running out of bowls! I'd already waited up for him past my usual bedtime so I was exhausted and snappy at midnight! :tantrum: Needless to say I didn't get out for my early morning run  I'll just take it as a "taper" day for my 5K on Sunday!!!

Pachyderm 07-07-2006 05:28 AM

Morning everyone. Thank God it's Friday :carrot:

I was very bad last night. I went out for dinner with my mum and sister and we went to a burger bar called Tootsies, and all my willpower left me and I had a burger and chips :nono: . What is funny though is that I really didn't enjoy it, the chips were so greasy. All this healthy eating has put me right off them :dizzy: . When I came home I went straight on the (very dusty) rowing machine to try and use up some of those calories :D . Never done that before, it would normally just push me over into binging on crisps :o . I think I'm finally learning

Have a good day everyone, and have a great holiday Helen

Sarah Ann 07-07-2006 05:37 AM

Frus - you ought to try my Monday aerobics class - I squelch all over - especially last Monday in that heat, I have never felt so hot in my life.

I wish I could keep Daisy (the lovely little black lab ***** I'm dog-sitting) she is so girlie and cute. She can move like the wind and she really kept my boys on their toes this morning during the walk. She got very concerned about my habit of scrambling up the steep hills and insisted on going up them backwards about six inches in front of my face looking very concerned - normally my boys just scramble up them then sit at the top looking down on me in a very superior way.

The pub/restaurant last night was not great. I think everything was bought in pre-cooked and frozen and then microwaved, except the steaks. I had a steak and ale casserole with the cobbler topping removed, a lump of something called 'mixed root mash' which tasted okay but was still almost frozen in the middle and seasonal veg.... which turned out to be (tinned)baby carrots and brussels sprouts! So when was the last time brussels sprouts were in season in early July? We all decided that next time we will visit their local Indian restaurant - or eat at home!

And we're off out again tonight! BBQ this time (if the rain holds off!) I'm looking forward to this - the people are great friends of ours and they both love cooking. I've never been there without trying something new and delicious - Sooz has already phoned to check we are both okay with eating fish... yum!

2frustrated 07-07-2006 05:40 AM

I hope you complained about your frozen mash. Sounds like a nightmare! I'll try your aerobics if you do my advanced kickboxing ;)

WTG on your rowing Pachyderm :bravo:

Sarah Ann 07-07-2006 06:30 AM

Oh yes! I'm good at complaining - we didn't pay for my meal - but it takes the happy edge off of the nice evening and, even more embarrassing, it was the other couple paying for it.

I've just found out theres a place in the next village opening up which will be teaching tai quan do (not sure of the spelling). DH told me then rolled his eyes, tutted and said he expected I would want to be trying that out next. Do you know if tai quan wotsit is anything like kickboxing cos the logo painted on the door shows someone kicking????

2frustrated 07-07-2006 06:32 AM

 Tae Kwon Do - Oooooh it's good, flows quite nicely. I think you learn more defensive techniques. You do kick and things and use your elbows quite a bit. Try it :hyper:

Edit: I just googled it, you get to BREAK BOARDS! :woo: :hyper: I'm going to learn it after black belt KB :hyper:

kykaree 07-07-2006 08:07 AM

I'm coming home!!!! I'm in Singapore again, tired, broke, and ready to go to sleep somewhere!!!! Still got 4 hours here and then 16 hours on a plane. Joy. But I have had the best time ever!!!!! My 24 hour train trip was fabulous, and a fitting reward for having lost half my weight that I wanted to lose. Gotta get to work on the slight gain I have taken......too much good food!!!!!

I have missed you all. Am most impressed you have racked up 5 July pages without me and my rabbitings!!!

It's really hot and humid here, even in the aiport. I have decided they keep it like this to grow orchids.

Hello to any new peeps that I have missed

Kylie

2frustrated 07-07-2006 08:18 AM

YAY You're coming HOME! :woo:

:D

Glad you had a lovely time :D

Calories on holiday don't count ;)

Sarah Ann 07-07-2006 08:34 AM

Hi Kylie - - I'm looking forward to reading all about your Aussie adventures! Like Frus says, calories on holiday don't count and you'll get back on the diet/exercise treadmill feeling a lot better for the break.

You've missed all the hot weather here.

Pachyderm 07-07-2006 08:59 AM

Hey Kylie, glad you had a fantastic holiday:wave:

Sarah, shame about last night, but your plans for tonight sound good. I have the truely exciting task of going to Tescos which should be fun! After last night I have decided to get the rowing machine out of retirement, and move it to somewhere more pleasant - perhaps in front of the TV. Last night I was just staring at the cat litter tray - not so pleasant :barf:

I am getting my :censored: sister's cold, I can feel it lurking, but I am not going to give in :jig: . I'm drinking lots of water and have taken some vitamin C...any other suggestions?

Sarah Ann 07-07-2006 10:17 AM

Only that if you feel you're getting a temp then take a couple of paracetamol - and get an early night.

Why don't you order your Tesco shopping on-line - I use Sainsburys now - saves money (no impulse buying) and cos you only order what you need you don't get tempted by all the naughty goodies.

Good idea about moving the rowing machine - I find that since I put the stationary bike next to a TV and a little CD player I now feel a bit more enthusiastic about using it.

I've done myself a couple of cardio music CDs - each 20 mins long which is the length of one of my HIIT cardio sessions and each contains a compilation of music with a fast beat. I can't peddle that :censored: bike unless I'm listening to something fast. I'm now working on doing a couple of abs and stretches CDs. The chill out stretches music is easy but I'm stuck on the music for abs / crunches.

I'm looking forward to tonight's dinner - I love barbequed fish!
