Smiling Sal 02-24-2003 08:29 AM

Got up at 6:30 and did 30 minutes of aerobics and have just been for a 1.5 mile walk in the lunchtime sunshine

Am determind to build some muscle to get rid of the fat

cat90 02-26-2003 07:30 PM

yesterday treadmill...today chucking logs

Smiling Sal 03-02-2003 02:55 AM

OK what have I done since Monday - lots

Tues - walk
Wed - swim
Thurs - swim
Fri - walk and areobics
Sat - aerobics
today - a wee rest I think

Have great plans for next week too, have been working my butt off. It will pay off in the long run - won't it ?

cat90 03-02-2003 04:45 PM

Great Job Carol..you deserve a rest ;) what have i done since Tuesday? nowt  so i'm going to treadmill at 2pm when the movie comes on :D

Smiling Sal 03-03-2003 08:23 AM

Didn't have a rest - ended up doing 40 minutes of aerobics in the evening

Today I have just walked nearly 2 miles (my estimate - need to buy a pedometer) in the spring sunshine.

That will be me for today

cat90 03-03-2003 11:34 AM

Got my @rse on my treadmill as promised so i'm a happy camper today :)

Smiling Sal 03-03-2003 01:00 PM

Washed the cars, the spring sunshione was showing all the winter dirt from the roads.

We now have 2 lovely clean blue cars, probably means it will rain tonight and ruin all my hard work, I put a lot of effort into getting them cleanish !!!!

BritinNJ 03-03-2003 04:17 PM

Am going to have a go at Kathy Smiths Pilates for ABS tonight. A friend lent it to me and she says it's a good one, she really enjoyed it. Wish me luck, I have no idea what I'm getting myself into with this.

cat90 03-04-2003 12:25 PM

Chris let us know what the vid is like :^: i walked for 4.25mls yesterday and 'burned' 465 cals if my treadmill tells the truth

BritinNJ 03-04-2003 03:39 PM

Hellooooooo, ok this is what I thought about the vid. It's great if you can do pelvic floor exercises, hold your tummy in so you can make a curve (think about keeping a marble in place above your belly button), lift your bum up all nice and tight and make your ribs feel like knitting needles by poking them out, all at the same time while lifting your legs, head and arms in different motions. What was this pilates? A contortionist? I must say, I found it all very interesting, but unless I lose all the fat to be able to make these curves and such, I can't see me doing it very well. Kathy Smith also keeps telling you to breath, and quite fast which I found quite difficult and was always on an in breath when she was on an out.....I think I'll stick to Tae-bo for a bit longer :)

Smiling Sal 03-04-2003 05:27 PM

Am definately going to avoid pilates, sounds painful.

Got up this morning and did 30 minutes of calanetics, am beginning to get there with the stomach exercises, managed to do 50 roll ups of the first one, she says to do 100 and I managed 30 of the next 2 and 15 of the last one. Am getting better at it but it is hard.

Walked at lunch time with a colleague from another office who is working with me for a few days. But I walked slower than usual although with all the chatting my tongue got a good workout - not sure if that counts

Went for a walk tonight, reckon I must have gone about 2.5 miles and carried a load of shopping back for the last one of them.

All this is supposed to be good for you, but all it is doing is making me sleep.

cat90 03-04-2003 06:29 PM

 sounds more like a childbirth class than an exercise class Chris  totally different to the one i bought these girls go like the clappers  before i've done one 'rep' and tried to follow what they are doing they've finished and started something else :yikes: needless to say i have'nt tried doing it again
I have'nt tried Callenetics again either..i really need to set up another tv..one to watch and one to play video's..then i'll get the best of both worlds :dizzy:

BritinNJ 03-04-2003 10:25 PM

It did put me in the mind of child birth actually, legs akimbo going in different directions whilst in some pain and trying to breath...LOL! Needelss to say, I gave it a miss tonight and watched 24. It was very exciting and I even hada few tears at a soppy bit. Does crying burn calories I wonder?

Smiling Sal 03-05-2003 05:26 PM

Crying must use some cals cause the body needs to do some work to produce them, think you may have to cry an awful lot for it too make any difference.

Got up at 6:30 this morning again and did the back to front work out on my Lorraine Kelly tape - will no doubt ache tomorrow night

Went for a stroll again at lunchtime and a real walk tonight when I got in from work.

Am hoping to go swimming tomorrow night, but the local pool has a ladies only night and you can guarnatee it will be mobbed, not my idea of fun, am going to go surfing in a wee while and see if I can find any details on the pool in the next town.

Arwen 03-06-2003 03:18 PM

This is a pilates exercise that I was shown and found very helpful but its not at all like the video Chris tried (which I won't be buying just yet!). This exercise is really effective:

Lie on your stomach on the floor and grip your forearms then rest your head, face down, on them. Try to lift your tummy button off the floor (imagine you are holding your tummy button away from a spike that is sticking up through the floor) and hold those muscles tight for a count of twenty. Relax then try again. Remember to breathe! I couldn't do ab-crunches until I tried this exercise and it made a difference in a couple of days.:)

Managed 32 lengths swimming on Tuesday and also tried "combat aerobics". Ahem. This was great, it consisted of someone standing behind me holding the middle of a giant elastic band taut. The band had a handle at each end and I held one in each hand and had to punch the air, in different directions. It was great fun with our trainer telling us to imagine it was our husbands! Backs of my arms ached yesterday.

Smiling Sal 03-06-2003 04:39 PM

The combat aerobics sounds fun, could get into that me thinks.

Have been a busy bee again today, up early and did Tae Bo, just put the tape on to see how much of it I could do, did the whole thing, am so impressed with myself :)

Went for a stroll at lunchtime and then a serious walk tonight - the 2.8 mile route, took about 40 minutes.

My muscles are starting to protest about all the hard work of this week, it will be worth it though.

Smiling Sal 03-07-2003 01:19 PM

Got up early again this morning and did 30 minutes of aerobics, am going to give the muscles a rest over the weekend.

Didn't manage to go for a walk at lunchtime as it was raining and the guy I am working with would have dissolved. Just kidding he's very nice really.

Taking the boys, their dad and my favourite nephew swimming to a new pool tonight - am looking forward to it, just waiting on the towels drying in the tumble dryer

cat90 03-08-2003 01:43 PM

No exercise yesterday..i will do some today..i will..i will..i will :D

cat90 03-08-2003 01:49 PM

My God Carol..i've just read how much exercise you are doing :bravo:
Helen..i'll try that exercise :)

Arwen 03-08-2003 03:21 PM

Cathy, its just a tightening of the stomach muscles so shouldn't really hurt whilst you are doing it though you will feel "the burn" after a bit. Also anyone watching won't really see you moving as you won't be lifting your back up at all. I found it really helpful. Enjoy:)

BritinNJ 03-08-2003 05:48 PM

Carol you are exercising fabously luv, well done to you. Cathy, I'm going to join you in Helens pilates exercise lifting the belly button off the floor, it sounds a whole lot easier than what I tried to do earlier this week. I had agonising lower back pain the day after, although I don't know whether to blame Pilates or my kids at work for that, cos work has been a very hectic physical one.

Arwen 03-08-2003 06:32 PM

Did anyone watch the programme earlier tonight about Kylie? John-Claude van Dam (sp?) took credit for her bum by saying he told her about an exercise he was taught as a ballet dancer where you lie on the floor on your back with your feet on the floor and your knees raised and you had to lift your buttocks and squeeze them for a count of three then lower for 1 and repeat. I think I've seen this one before but thought I'd give it a go later, though I think it will take a lot more than that before I end up with a bum like hers!:) Liposuction would be more in order in my case:D

Smiling Sal 03-09-2003 05:30 AM

I would do that exercise everyday for the rest of my life if I thought I could get a bum like Kylies. Don't even think liposuction would work for me - a magic wand might be more the order of the day.

Yes Cathy I have worked this body this week, I have been really focused and pushed myself, I am determined to build some muscles to help burn this fat off - just hope it works. Was chatting to a couple of friends yesterday and said I will probably gain this week with all the muscle I have built, would be just my luck. We are going on holiday in a few weeks and I need some muscles to burn off all the booze I'll be consuming then.

I can see a difference in my shape so it is worth it, I just need to stay focused and keep at it.

I have been doing extra walking this week as I haven't really been doing as much during the day with having Brian working with me. He is too much of a gent to let me do all the lifting and carrying in my job and I haven't been running up all those stairs, cause I've been chatting to him on the way up. Is embrassing to be caught running up the stairs, only do it when there is no one else on them - most of the time. Don't have stairs at home so it is a bit of a novelty.

Went for a lovely walk yesterday afternoon, did a 3 mile circuit, had to measure it in the car, roll on mothers day and my pedometer.

Am hoping to escape for a walk later and will be taking the kids swimming, more of a splash around than a serious swim, but it will get my butt of the couch.

Did lots of housework yesterday, so that would have burnt of a few cals, got the livingroom and the iroining to tackle today. Don't iron much just my work stuff and a few of the boys things, so shouldn't moan.

Come on Cathy I saw you challenge on the other thread that I was out doing you exercise wise, can't have that.

cat90 03-10-2003 12:16 AM

Helen I'll try the bum lifts too  i can't have Carol having buns of steel can i? :s: i was a little liar yesterday i did'nt exercise :o so i walked 4 miles today to make up for it a bit while i watched Shaft i should try and schedule it so i'm watching an action movie everytime because once the fighting starts and the guns come out my little legs go like the clappers..you would think they were after me

Smiling Sal 03-10-2003 03:49 PM

Couldn't get out of bed this morning to do an aerobics tape - had that Monday morning feeling.

Ran up and down the stairs a few times then walked a mile and a half at lunchtime - nice restful day

No excuses tomorrow morning

Buns of steel - I like the sound of that

Smiling Sal 03-11-2003 04:42 PM

Got out of bed and did calanetics, have managed to do all the warm up, about half of the required number of the stomach exercises and have tried the first leg one - I am making progress.

Went for a stroll at lunch time, was planning a proper walk tonight, but Ray was working until 8:30 and it was a bit late to go then

Will defiantely get a proper walk in tomorrow lunchtime

BritinNJ 03-11-2003 09:32 PM

I've been doing the pilates one, I think Helen mentoined on here earlier. I can actually do it, and can feel it. I have tried sucking everything in and up too throughout the day, and I can definitely feel my tum muscles doing something so I take this as a good sign :)

Smiling Sal 03-12-2003 11:08 AM

Did Lorraine Kelly this morning- the first one, the legs kill me but it is getting easier.

Went for a walk at lunchtime, just over a mile, stopped into Index to see if they had any pedometers, but they don't.

Am hoping to get out for a walk this evening, if Ray isn't in until 8:30 I'll just need to go in the dark

cat90 03-12-2003 12:53 PM

No exercise for me yesterday just plenty of donuts :o :ink: i have'nt tried Helen's exercises yet but i will today after reading Chris's post (jogged my memory) funny how the important things in life like exercise slip your mind is'nt it?

Smiling Sal 03-15-2003 04:09 AM

Went for a walk on Thursday and did Tae Bo in the morning. Then on a Friday went for another walk, but no aerobics.

Am going to do some heavy landscaping in the garden, lots of digging and moving stuff !!!

Smiling Sal 03-17-2003 04:33 PM

No offical exercise for me over the weekend, just gardening and a 4.25 mile walk yesterday afternoon, as if that wasn't enough. Am going to step my exercise up a small bit this week, I really want to get swimming, but it doesn't fit in with Raymonds shifts, so I'll just need to contain myself to walking and aerobics.

The walk was a killer by the way, a long time since I walked that far.

As my SIL said yesterday, if there is no pain there will be no gain, if it works for her, all good and well. Me I perfer the no pain and lots of gain method, but preferably not on the scales.

Went for a mile walk at lunchtime, no aerobics today am saving that for tomorrow.

Smiling Sal 03-18-2003 02:36 PM

Got up early this morning and went did my 2.5 mile circuit. Will be able to measure it accurately tomorrow as my pedometer arrived today. I am like a kid with a new toy. Have set it up to see how many steps I take this evening.

But having said that I enjoyed the walk so much this morning when everyone else was in bed that I am going to go again tomorrow. Have the alarm set for 5:55. Was nice and peaceful and foggy and slient.

Means though that I still have my calanetics to do tonight. Will put the tape on once teh boys are in bed - suppose that is the down side of enjoying an early morning walk.

Smiling Sal 03-20-2003 04:11 PM

OK what have I done since Tuesday,

Wednesday morning I couldn't get of bed, so I stayed in until 6:30 and then got up and did 20 minutes of aerobics, went for a 1.5 mile walk at lunchtime

This morning I got out of bed and walked 2.5 miles, then I did my Tae Bo tape when I came in from work and have just walked up to the Co-op and back a mere 1.6 miles.

I am working it hard, the eating hasn't been good bu the exercise has.

Smiling Sal 03-23-2003 10:47 AM

Went for a walk on Friday, walked about 1 mile.

Danced the night away last night, would have burnt of a few pounds.

Smiling Sal 03-23-2003 11:32 AM

Forgot I went for a 2 miles walk in Aberdeen yesterday, up a big hill - killed my shin muscles and I had on stupid new shoes and have lots of lovely blisters :(

Smiling Sal 03-24-2003 08:23 AM

Up at 6 and out about for 2.1 miles, just back from a 1.6 miles walk at lunchtime.

Am going to keep a tally for the whole week of my walking - would like to make 20 miles will have to wait and see if I do it.

cat90 03-26-2003 03:41 PM

Finally forced myself to walk for 2 miles at 7.30pm last night  almost gave it a miss again but managed to 'talk' myself into it :D

Smiling Sal 03-26-2003 05:15 PM

On Tuesday I did a new circuit and walked just over 3 miles.

Then today I went round my longest route, 3.5 miles, I thought it was nearer 4 but who am I to argue with my pedometer. Then I did a short detor as I had to buy some food for lunch taking it up to 4 miles all in.

Am at 11 miles in my week challenge, only 9 miles to go by Sunday evening to meet it.

No aerobics so far, gotta get back to that tomorrow.

Went swimming with the boys, I did swim a couple of widths but was more of splash around.

cat90 03-27-2003 05:07 PM

Walked 4.5 miles today :cp:

Smiling Sal 03-28-2003 08:57 AM

Walked 2 miles yesterday, dug up some of the garden, moved a load of PCs, etc and my legs ached so I stayed in bed this morning.

Just walked 1.5 miles in the sunshine - was gentle and lovely adn didn't want to come back to work :( - weekly total is at over 14 miles
