Melra I don't know how much work that pizza dough recipe would be to make without the bread machine...it doesn't look too hard but I have never tried it. Unfortunately I am pretty worthless in the kitchen (thank goodness my husband can cook) but I can handle this recipe w/the bread maker.

kayelle~ lol--I'm a pretty good cook, but I have a short attention span! I do all the cooking around the house so my dh comes in a cleans up after me otherwise I would just leave it like a college kid.
I really wish that there were more whole grain / whole wheat offerings at the store. I switched to wheat pasta last year and no one noticed a difference. Now I'm paying more attention to the ingredients part of the labels--my little girl is learning to read for "partially hydrogenated vegetable oil" and "high fructose corn syrup". Those two are really hard to avoid and easiest (imo) to get addicted to. You know, come to think of it, I have benefitted from the diet industry. Without spending a dime on the stuff, I have still learned a lot about good/bad carbs and preservatives and trans fat and the like! |
I know about the whole wheat pasta experience. I was reading labels the other day and was totally surprised by the ingredients in a couple brands that said whole wheat on the front and the one brand (muellers) said: wheat, brown rice, white rice, cane syrup.???.. I have been buying the Ronzoni brand as it says wheat, wheat bran, wheat fiber and folic acid.. NO SUGAR - they do try to sneak it in under any name don't they?? and rold gold brand pretzels.. flour, sugar etc... Sugar in pretzels??.. Partially hydrogenated veggie oil in a product and it says no trans fat -so I called the tyson company and asked about their chicken nuggets that say no trans fat but still have PHVO.. they told me that in 1 serving there would be no trans fat.. so what happens if you eat 1 serving every day don't you get transfat??? on maybe a weekly basis??I was told no.. so then they sent me coupons, after I told them they were not selling a healthy product..
:sssh: Melra.. Don't let them know you know what you've learned - They'll change all the "rules" again LOL :cheer: to everyone for doing great.. even though we may slip we all seem to pick ourselves up and dust off and keep going! it's so awesome! Thanks for all the support ! |
Hi all- Hope you are doing great!!
Kayelle - Thanks for the recipe for the Wheat crust - I am a pizza freak and will try it soon! As far as making it by hand - it's not hard at all, I do it all of the time - and kneading the dough is a good workout for the arms too! Mel - Boy it's comforting to someone in the health services business has such great "customer service"! I would definately complain about your experience - if no one does Curves will never know! I have heard from a friend who works for a doctor that they have been seeing more ppl. with strains/sprains/aches because of the way they are using the machines there - I have never been there but I guess you have something like 5 min. per machine, so ppl try to get in so many reps and aren't paying attention to their form well enough and are actually hurting themselves - so be sure you are properly trained on how to do the exercises and are not trying to rush through it. OK enough preaching! :nono: Sandi - hope you are feeling better soon! LauraB - hope your sons issues work out for the best for all involved I am having a hard time keeping up with everyone! :dizzy: I haven't been here in a couple of days - I can't reply to everyone - but know that I am cheering everyone on! :cheer: It was TOM for me over the weekend - so I am happy with my .5 loss! The way I figure it I am about 1/6th of the way their! Take Care all and keep up the great work!! |
Thanks for all your support re: my unfortunate incident @ Curves. What made the situation even worse was that she asked what size my mom was and when I told her that she's about 15lbs bigger than I am, she said "Oh, so you'll always be on the bigger-side"! What, how rude is that?! And then when it came down to discussing the price, she wrote it all out, explaining the initiation fee and monthly membership fee. Then after the big spiel, she blurted out "So you wanna join?". I said that I had to discuss it with my husband (since it's a bit of money coming out of our cheq. acct ea. month) and she said "Well, you said already that he's supportive of you". I explained that yeah, he's supportive but we always discuss financial purchases with the other. She kind of rolled her eyes like I wasted her time.
So anyway, after telling DH the whole bit, he went in and asked to speak with the manager (who apparently was away on holidays). So instead, he ranted on to her about how her tactics cost her a sale. She babbled on about how she was just trying to be encouraging... blah blah blah. He turned and walked out... while she continued to go on... and on... and on. I'm done with it. I'm happy, though, that other people have had good experiences and have seen good results. I wish I would have had the same. Today started out good and then... yes, that TOM cravings took RIGHT over. I ended up eating cheese puffs and a chocolate chip cookie. Bleh. I somehow managed to stay below cal. though. Fat grams??? Um, no. But not toooooo much higher than I should be. Tonight we're going for a 6mi walk and tomorrow I'm going to do 8. I hafta kick things into gear if I wanna make my goal. --- StillTrying... Congrats on your 1/2lb loss! That's fantastic! You are definitely on your way! :) Keep up the great work! :) sandisuze... That's hilarious about the phone call into Tyson... go figure! Here's some coupons to keep you from asking any more questions! ;) Man alive. melra... I'm totally with you, I so wish there were more whole grain options available! We used to be a white flour family but have really taken a liking to whole wheat pasta, brown rice, whole grain bread. I wish we would've always eaten this way....! Better late than never, I suppose. Don't worry about the scale, eating healthy and exercising is totally beneficial regardless if the scale moves. You are well on your way! And every day you are getting healthier! :) Ice Princess... Glad that you're enjoying your Curves membership and that you're getting all your daily water in. Keep up the great work! Theresa... Sounds like you have a great winter project ahead of you! That's really something that you're living in the house your husband grew up in... real family history there! :) That's wicked! Congrats on the 1lb loss! Fabulous! SuzyMc... Wow, all that renovating must be burning some killer cals! Good job! KayElle... Thanks for posting the pizza dough recipe, I'll definitely have to try it out. <--- Which gives me an excuse to finally buy a breadmaker! ;) cadwell... I'm definitely going to try to make tzatziki dip! It's so delish! :) Sounds pretty easy to make too... maybe this weekend I'll give it a-go! Hey, how are those interview-pants fitting? LauraB... I'm so sorry to hear about all the stress you've been enduring. You have done an amazing job at staying OP through it all... and certainly deserve a round of applause for your willpower! I really hope everything works out for your son and DIL... marriage is difficult in the best of circumstances. We're here if you need to vent....! The rest of you... a great big  ! :) Keep up the great work, everyone! Well, ladies, I must be off. I hope you all have a wonderful evening! Take care of yourselves! Stay HAPPY and HEALTHY! ~mel |
Today was such an up and down day. I thought my son and DIL had worked things out. We all went over to her parents for dinner. Great time. Everything going good. We leave. 5 minutes later my boy is in the driveway in a rage cause she changed her mind and was going to stay at her mom's. She was having a panic attack. (something new to add to their troubles). So now he's yelling that he wants divorce and she's yelling that he won't help her thru her difficulties-some of which he caused, and I can do nothing but worry that he will flip out and drink and drive.
So today was not a perfect OP day, close but a little, maybe 400 calories over my goal. So I won't lose but I won't gain either. I had an ok experience at Curves a while back. I went for about 6 months. Everyone was over 40 and fat. It was a nice group, but absolutely no energy in the room and it was so repititious that it got boring. It was 10 miles away and I got lazy. Laura |
late night good vibes!
laurab~ I am so sorry you have to deal with so much drama with your son and dil. :( That first year of marriage is tough and all but phew! You are working on a mom or mil of the year award right now! You obviously care a great deal about your son and his new bride and I really hope things can turn around for them soon. Has anyone suggested counseling for them? It must be stressful, but keep focused on what you want for yourself too--don't let all this derail you! :grouphug:
macdeez~ good for you for making up for the cravings with extra walking! I liked your total miles for the month thing--I might try that next month. I have some Labor Day #s that I now know I am totally not going to make, but I'm going to see how close I get so I can push myself for the next one. Also, right on for your man telling it like it is! I am really proud of our little group! It seems like we are all making a true effort and getting off track too much. It's good to see too that everyone is staying active. I know I have been much better about working out lately--esp when I know I'll get on here and see that someone's done 8-10 miles! And I totally wanted a glass of wine tonight, but I did not partake b/c I knew one would mean two and then I would probably want a dessert or snack before bed (which I need to go to right now if I want to get my 6am alarm! :tired: ) and then there goes all the discipline I had during the day. Anyway, just really glad right now that I stumbled into these forums when I did, b/c who knows how much longer I would keep procrastinating and fooling myself that I was doing okay. After all, even if I were okay, okay is not fabulous and don't we all deserve to be fabulous?! :D |
hi everyone :) i'm so glad everyone is keeping with this. y'all are a big encouragement to me, especially with this "no ice cream or cookies" challenge i have trying. i think about how you guys are resisting the urge to splurge and it really helps. i saw the last two of those danged cookies mil brought on the table today, and i thought about the last macaroon, and i just said to dh, "you don't want these, do you?" and i threw them out. yay.
well i am back down to what i was a few days ago when i changed my ticker so i don't have to move it up after all. i really didn't want to because i think of these setbacks as temporary, while a success is permanent. hmm, maybe that no ice cream and cookie diet is working! i haven't lost anything else, but at least i made it to the gym. less than a week to get into the interview pants.. i can do it! i wonder if that will help me get the job. of course with murphy's law, i'll get it now that i have another job all lined up selling insurance. at least i hope so! either one would be good now, as i have no money. laura.. i'm sorry things are still not getting better with your son and dil. drinking and driving in a rage is really scary. hopefully he won't do that, but at least if you see him leave you can call the cops and give them his license plate #. that's what my mom used to do to my dad :s: that probably won't help things with his wife though. oh well, what can you do? why can't kids just stay the age when they do things like this you can send them to their rooms? i bet my mom wishes that sometimes  |
Good morning!
Okay, ladies...I have discovered the secret to super fast weight loss! All we have to do is join a football team! My son started football practice exactly 10 days ago and he has lost nine pounds!! Nine!!! AND he eats like there is no tomorrow! I figure if I start going to practice with him every day I can reach my goal in 3 weeks tops! Of course there may be a few minor side effects. I'm afraid the daily 4 hour heavy duty practices might just land me in the hospital. Oh, well....it was a thought anyway. I have really turned in to a label reader also. My husband and I love wheat pasta and every other high fiber wheat thing that we can find. The nice thing is my kids even like most of the wheat products. Still can't get them sold on things like Boca Burgers, FF cheese, etc. though...my husband usually has to cook our stuff and the kids stuff separately. He finds ways to pare down all our recipes to make them very low fat and then he cooks the regular version for our kids. It is nice that they like the wheat pasta and wheat pizza crust, though. Glad your hubby went and let the curves lady have it, macdeez! If that is her idea of encouragement...wow...I'm speechless. Congrats on the loss StillTrying! Any loss during TOM is an accomplishment! Even just maintaining during TOM is an accomplishment!! Laura I'm really sorry that your son and dil are still having problems. It must be so hard to want to step in and fix things and yet not want to interfere at the same time. I do hope he settled down and didn't drink and drive. Drinking and driving is one of my biggest fears as a parent so I can imagine how worried you must be about him. Hope you all get things straightened out very, very soon. Yep, melra, we all deserve to be fabulous! I've been keeping a list of reasons why I want to keep going to meet my goal and why I never want to gain the weight back again. Some of the reasons are pretty serious...like I don't want my blood pressure to get high again, and some are sillier, like no more painful heat rash/chafing between my thighs when I walk...but it all helps me remember why I'm doing this and why it's all worth it. I've been at my "fabulous" weight before...I've just never been able to stay there so I'm really focusing on that so I can get there and STAY there this time! Have a great day all, be healthy and happy!! |
cadwell...somehow I missed your post....congrats on your loss and not having to move the ticker the wrong way! It was next to impossible for me to give up the ice cream and cookies...but if I did it you can do it. I had ice cream every single day and cookies a lot of days and I've managed to replace it w/ fruit and have ice cream less than once per month now, and I don't remember the last time I ate a cookie and I don't even want one. It takes time but believe me it does get easier and now the cravings are only occasionally instead of constantly! Of course you are much more likely to get that great job if you have another one in the works as well! That's how life always works, isn't it?

Not only do we want to be fabulous, but I think our group is fabulous. It's so good to know that there are encouraging posts waiting to be read, not just re weight loss, but life in general.
I feel more optimistic today. My son and I had a long talk late last night and Ithink he is thinking clearly and they both are willing to get counseling. He is ok with her staying at her mom's until she feels better, even tho he feels abandoned by her. I feel bad for both of them cause I think they could be so good together. Re ice cream and cookies-sugar is a trigger food for me. Once I let it in I can't stop. Then everything gets blown. It's better for me to have none than a little bit. I am planning to have and an ice cream sunday with wet nuts, possibly for my birthday in Sept. I think it's easier for me to stay OP right now cause none of my kids are home and I don't have to think about meals to make everyone happy, and there are no left overs for me to eat. I think it's wonderful to read labels. I think if the food contains some thing with 24 letters that you can't pronounce, and certainly have no clue as to what it is, chances are you shouldn't let it into your body. Laura |
More from me
I've lost 4 pounds and I actually feel better! How is that possible? It's just a tiny bit of the total, yet I feel that my belly, which is where most of my excess weight is, is less big. I still haven't started to work out. Maybe today. Laura |
Congrats Laura! That is awesome! It just doesn't take long to notice a difference...and you will feel better and better with every loss! Good luck with the exercise...it is hard to get started but it will make you feel even better yet. Start slowly and try different things until you really find the things you like and will stick with. It'll be a habit in no time and you'll hate to miss even a day.

Fabulous: a: incredible, astonishing, b:WONDERFUL, MARVELOUS c: a group known as Summer Starters on the Support Group forum of 3fc's . :grouphug:
Laura - I am so glad that things are getting better with your son. I really feel for you. I have been through so much with my oldest daughter, I wonder if it will end. My problem was that she never did the teen rebellion, or even the pre teen rebellion- she didn't do anything until she was in her 2nd semester in college and all heck broke loose. I think if I had gone thru the teen trials I would have been prepared for all of this. 4 POUNDS YAY! :bravo: That is so wonderful! I really like the term "trigger foods"- It has been helpful for me to label foods like that. I can now say to hubby that we can't buy this or that as it is a trigger food for me. and the family is ok with that- If they want cookies we get the kind that I don't like or we buy enough just for them to each have 1. I have decided that the "old fashioned" exercises are fabulous and will work fine for me. By old fashioned I mean laying on side/back and doing leg lifts -bicycles- or squats etc. I experimented on a few things from videos I got from the library and found some of the old basics work for me. I am liking the set of Tony Horton's Power 90 tapes I got from ebay (paid 6.00 including shipping) and I like the richard simmons toning band video.. (as long as it is on mute) so my goal this weekend is to "organize" an exercise program for myself. The bike is good for cardio until it cools down enough to walk ( October- November) But I need to help the muscles along. All this tae bo and pilates confuses me- I never know if I am in a "good form" or not LOL.. Have a good day all and keep up all the great work! :cheer: Sandi |
