I can’t believe that I found this forum! I have had a goal of getting under 200 for the past two years. I am almost there, but plateauing. I decided this morning that I needed some support and went searching online…and here you all are!
Some info on me. I’m 29 (as of five days ago!) and am currently 5’7” and 208. My highest weight was 351 in January of 2001. I have been overweight my whole life. I can’t remember not wearing “plus size” clothing. Compulsive overeating ruled my life. I never knew what it was like to eat one donut—but I had lots of experience with empty donut *boxes* hidden under my bed. Actually granola bars were my binge food of choice, but that’s another story!
Finally after years of overeating (and smoking a pack a day), it got to a point where I thought I was going to die. Pain in my left arm forced me to go to the emergency room. It turned out to only be pulled muscle from sleeping wrong on my arm, but it was enough of a wake-up call for me.
The first 50 pounds I lost on a standard, low-calorie, write down everything you eat, exercise program. Unfortunately, the sneaky eating never stopped. Even though I was losing weight, I was really struggling with not being able to control my binging. Guilt and disappointment led me to slip back into old habits. I quit smoking and the combination of events had my weight creeping back up.
One day I read the Carbohydrate’s Addict book and I thought why not? It didn’t sound that hard and gave you permission to eat whatever you want at night (this was the 1st edition, before they revised) Anyways, it worked! Not eating carbs during the day (and keeping the carbs I did eat in a hour time frame at night) helped me stop my binging and lose another 70 pounds. Then I plateaued. For a year.
Ack.
So in January of this year, I went back to writing down everything I eat and trying to keep my calorie intake in check. I still don’t eat a lot carbs during the day to control the binges (I eat some—like a high fiber flax cereal in the morning) and I make sure I eat veggies at every meal. And of course exercise. I’ve found that, for me, exercise is key.
Anyways, as I mentioned up above, under 200 is my goal. Seriously, I think the last time I weighed under 200 was in 8th grade! And I’m so close, but I’ve been this close for over two months! I happy that I’m maintaining/not gaining, but I need a kick in the butt!
Whew, I think that was the first time I’ve ever written that all out! Thanks for reading if you’ve made it this far!
I’m going to go back and read some posts and get to know everyone. Thanks for being here!
