I like Kevin Costner--and he's been to Maine. Although not this part of the state. But he'd probably side with the Park People.

Lush, that is exactly what we're afraid of here. The place becomes this destination (rather than a place to live) and every other piece of land is sold to developers and only the wealthy can afford to build. I couldn't live here that way. I'm not good at conforming and being squeezed. A lot of places in Maine no longer have ordinary people living in them because they are squeezed out by money. It's a messed up economy, because the "poorer" towns are getting poorer by the minute.

Something funny and sort of disturbing happened recently on Mt. Desert Island (where Bar Harbor is--very upscale summer place). Some rich guy decided he wanted a full grown apple tree planted in his yard and the only place he could get it was off the island. So he hired someone to deliver this big tree. Doesn't sound like that big a deal, but it turned out to be a nightmare. It was so big around -- somebody said 30' in diameter -- that they had to stop traffic in both directions. And it took them 10 hours to move the thing 10 or 15 miles or so. There is only one road to most places on the island (and only one road to the island), so people were stranded. There were people who couldn't get to their jobs the whole day!! Unbelievable.

That's a lot of work, Luscious Dear. Should I be doing stuff like that? Here's my list:

1) Unpack my suitcase
2) Wipe down the bathroom
3) Sort the mail and take out the recycling
4) Clean out dead things from the refrigerator
5) Take the big garbage bag down from the ceiling in the kitchen, because DH has admitted that it isn't doing anything. Apparently he just likes living in a dump

That oughta take me all day

Dear Miss Luscious and Kiwi of the Woods,
why has no one mentioned that adorable picture next to Cowpernia? She lets me post for her at times because my name is already set up on the puter at work.
Bye,

I repeat that no one mentioned the adorable but old picture of the funny looking child. I am at work. I don't have to pack here. Do you want those tapes of the scary radio shows?

Can I put stuff in your dumpster? Does UPS deliver to your house?

I'm so hungry. I had to fast for 12 hours so I could go get some lab tests done this morning, and I haven't had anything but coffee since I got home. I'm warming up soup right now, but it's not ready yet.

How do I get DH to do something other than play guitar allllll freeeeking day? He washed the car yesterday, and he's going to take the car to get it fixed tomorrow, but that's not going to keep him out of my hair today. I'm going completely freaking nuts!! Oops I think he heard my key-pounding; he put it away!

Ah. silence.

Hey did you notice the funny lookin' kid in the black and whites next to cow p's posts?

Kiwi, men do not notice where they live. If they have a fridge, a tv remote and a bed they are happy.

My DH is trying to make me crazy. He told me last week that we would be closed thursday and friday for the 4th of July holiday. Then last night he asked me where I ever got the idea we were closed on Thursday? Everyone knows that the 4th of July is on friday!!! He has absolutely no recollection of our previous conversation. Which doesn't surprise me because he does not listen to me.

Kiwi, I hope you get to keep your state. We always have celebrities trying to tell us how to run Oregon.

I know just what you mean, Wabbit. Men don't even listen to themselves when they talk, let alone anyone else.

My sweet DD called her grandparents last night when she couldn't get hold of us. Give that girl a phone card and a list of phone numbers, and who knows what she'll do.

Well, I've gotten through more than half my list and I'm tired. Can I have a nap?

One thing I object to at this site is that celebs can't post their opinions on the future of Kiwi's state. I'm certain that some of them would have insightful things to say like how they have indeed been to Maine and that's where they order their little hand woven wreath earrings from and how they treasure them because they were woven by local natives of the area. We might even get one of them to sponsor a school or open a stand near the new park to sell handstitched aprons and quilts.

Yes, you may have a nap. Then get out your needles.

Thanks for the reassurances that I am not carrying some cow-plague, or spreading "Mad Cow" Dis-ease. I am always shocked to recognize that I have great freaking moments of INSECURITY.

(My friends would never know. I hide it SO well.)

Cowpernia, tell us who THE current little darling is. DS? My DS is kind of a hulk (not quite hunk)... and if I ever figure how to post photos, I'll include one. Of course, if it makes this take FOREVER to load, I'll understand why you start a new thread.

Possible title: Udderly Fab. Bovine Beauties. Steer me in the right direction.....

We're leaving tomorrow before the sun's up to fly to St. Louis. Will visit inlaws and celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary... then off on our own for the zoo and fun time. Will be back Tuesday next.

Mz. Lucious and Wabby... I empathize with your consternation about developers vs conservators vs misguided people who cause unintended consequences. I spent some good times in the Pine Barrens... (loved the blueberries more, though) and hope to get to Maine before it is all glizted up like Eureka Springs, or worse, Branson. At least the California Coast threatens to fall into the Pacific frequently enough that people build cautiously.[IMG]C:\photos\John boat.bmp[/IMG]

Join the club, darling! That's why we're all here.

Holding steady at 157 and my new bell-bottom jeans (which I think make me look more silly than cool but balance out the big butt) are LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSE. Yay.

I suppose all of yous except Bagzie will be off tomorrow celebrating and eating way too much at the Annual Dogpatch/Podunk/Dullsville Independence Day Picnic?

Painty, I think your proposed title is fine but I REALLY LIKE the use of "steer" in the next sentence.

Yes, Sugar, ds and I are invited to a bbq. They're having ribs, chicken, couscous, veggies and dip and grasshopper parfaits. What should I take?

Default Congrats

to Sugar on loose pants!

We are going to the "big city" for boat riding on the river, cookout at friends' house with my great salmon steaks, and salad and corn on the cob. Friends inform me that salmon and corn on the cob are the traditional Maine Fourth of July food. And then fireworks.

I think you should offer to bring the
grasshoppers, Peachers.

Painterlady, you can post pictures two ways: the img tags only work as links--and only online links--not links to your hard drive. I haven't been able to get those to embed in the message. The other way is at the bottom of the Reply form (Attach file) -- you upload a jpg file from your hard drive and it will show up at the bottom of your post. There are size limits, both width and height and file size.

Have fun in St. Louis. I absolutely adore zoos. Unfortunately nobody else in my family is very enthusiastic about them. But that stop me from dragging me to the zoo every time I get the chance (which frankly is rare).

Everyone have a lovely Independence Day. Cherish your freedom--there are plenty who would like to take it away.
