Talking "Every-Day" 21-Day Challenge -- Do it till you're satisfied!!

Okay, everyone, as is the tradition, I start a new thread when I personally start a new challenge.

Below is a short explanation of how this challenge works so all you newcomers can take a look and decide if you're game or not! I hope you are! Hop aboard and enjoy the ride. We've got a great bunch of supportive people, so I hope you'll give us a try. A lot of people try for a while and then disappear.. I hope some of you will keep trying. There is NO shame in starting over. Remember, it's not over till you give up. And our motto around here is:

NEVER GIVE UP!!...Just start OVER!!

EXPLANATION AND RULES:

It works like this: you decide you'll do something for 21 days straight, every single day, so keep it doable. Then you count ....one through 21.....and if you flub it, you MUST go back to zero and start over again. Everyone will be on different days. You can start anytime. At the beginning of the challenge you declare what level it is -- Level 1, 2, or 3. Level 1 means you feel it's a relatively easy challenge for you and means you only give yourself ONE pause day (see explanation of pause days below). Level 2 would give you two pause days and so on...
And taking NO pause days is what I'm going to call "aceing a challenge," as in "I'm aiming on aceing this one!" Yowzah!!

With a pause day you pause in your counting and continue the next day with the number you left off with. Pause days are NOT substitutes for days, i.e. Day 12 -- Day 13 -- Pause Day -- Day 14..... I suggest taking a pause day late in the game (better to go back to Day 1 early on) if you need a break or screw up when you're well into the challenge, meaning, when you're on Day 15 or something like that.

In any case, the trick is to keep going. The momentum builds and it's great incentive to stick to your guns, cause if you don't.........back to START you go. And the really great thing about this challenge is that you are forming new habits that will wipe out the old! AND, you get to do it with a great bunch of really supportive people to whom you are accountable!

THREAD GUIDELINES:

In the interest of maintaining structure, a sense of solidarity and facilitating support I ask anyone who wishes to join this thread to please strive to follow the following guidelines while participating in this challenge and in posting.

1. Although this is a fabulous support group, the focus is to be on your CHALLENGE/S and/or other people's challenge/s AND weight loss, whether your challenge is about it or not. Please keep the challenge a priority, although we welcome chattiness! This means tell us what day you're on when you post and it's a good idea to make regular mention of just what your challenge is. This an action-based thread. Our members are ON a challenge, RESTARTING a challenge, or just in between and looking to start up again REAL SOON. We also welcome posts from admirers, encouragers, and old friends!

2. Please refrain from posting food logs or recipes, except where you are really looking for help and advice on your eating. If journaling is your challenge, please keep the journaling off the thread and in a notebook or blog and just tell us if you've done what you set out to do. We have ALL types of dieters here, low-carb, high-carb, low-fat, high-fat, vegetarians, meat-lovers...please use simple mentions if you have something you want to share and then links and/or private messages to do so.

3. Please do NOT go into glowing accounts of any slipups, food indulgences or binges, what we here call "food porn." Simple mentions are fine, but use of smilies etc. as substitutes where possible is encouraged.

4. Please keep this a secular thread. Of course, passing references to your beliefs, a bit of introduction about your beliefs, brief faith-related words of encouragement are fine.

5. Please show support, support, support! This is key. You can waffle on about yourself but please, at least occasionally, come up and look around at others and what they are doing and MENTION it with words of encouragement and/or praise or sympathy. We understand "busy," poor computer connections, and bouts of self-pity and life problems where the focus turns to "me" and dealing with those problems, but these should be temporary, not a habit! ('cept in the computer case.)

In conclusion, let me say, the above are just that, GUIDELINES. Please realize that these guidelines have been added in an attempt to keep this a supportive and beneficial thread, at the LEAST, to those who need it MOST, those for whom weight loss is the hardest and, more often than not, the most crucial as well as for those who still, perhaps despite great success, know all too well that the road they walk will always be a slippery one.

The guidelines are also meant to cultivate an atmosphere of consideration and concern for ALL, not individually, but AS A GROUP.

Well, all's said. Please join us!!

SO, I am still going to buy a real one someday soon. I was saving it for a reward for one of the many dang challenges I am in, once I hit a goal actually!

Day 4 here for me and the best weigh-in day yet--188.8. I worked my tail off for three days, here's hoping the week-end is good to me also.

Hi Apple, we missed you! Just one reminder--I just read this AGAIN--the cure for low energy and fatigue is exercise (unless there is something actually medically wrong with you). Supposedly, your mitochondria get lazy without you pushing it, and we need to do exercise to have it work better and carry oxygen better, blah, blah, blah. I forget exactly what the article all said, but I got the jist of it--we need to EXERCISE to have increased energy and vitality!! GO TEAM!

Oh wait, we aren't on teams here, are we? See how confused I get b/c I am posting and reading all over the board?
Heh there, all. Hope you found the new thread here.
I duplicated mod's last post since no one had yet responded. Hope to see you all real soon now!

Hi everyone! Can I join in?

I have been WW since July 08 and have lost a bit over 40 lbs so far - I still have a lot to go, but this seems like a fun, supportive, accountable way to incorporate some of the goals that I want!

I'm going to start with one goal

Exercise DAILY with 1 pass day

This should be a good one for me - I have gotten into the abit of exercising about 4 times a week, but I REALLY slack off on the weekend. I realized that I gain slightly over the weekend and I think it's because of not exercising - so here we go! It sure can't hurt me!

Day 1Hi Everyone!

My challenge is to exercise daily with one pass day. I want to turbo charge my weight loss for a while. I have stalled and temptations seem more and more alluring when I am not seeing any progress. So! I will have to find some ways to make this work. Here is my plan:

I can eat my lunch during third period and walk at lunch
I can get my tired body walking after work
I can go get that exercise bike, like I have been talking about, and get on it before work
I can get out my dancin' shoes and use my dance cardio DVDs
I can dust off my weights and do some weight bearing exercise
I can research some effective ab exercises
I can do a lot more hiking, which I love
Dare I say, I can try a little running while I walk?

I will log the minutes I spent exercising and what type of exercise I did, daily.

Texscrapper-We have the same goal and we are starting on the same day. I hope we can support one another as we more through this challenge! Today I plan to go for a hike to the top of a local peak. It is about a four mile hike with about 500 feet gain in elevation.

Smile Hey, a fresh new thread

I think I'll start a new challenge, just because. I didn't get all my steps yesterday but had a good day other than that. That was my last pause but I think I'll just start over.

Giving me three pauses on this one.

Oh! A new thread! YEAH! I'll just blabber on like I was gonna in the other thread!

Well, its day 3 and I’m still doing good. Yesterday was a bit of a challenge, as it was my first day without smoking. I didn’t include that on the 21 day challenge for fear of really goofing up! I haven’t been too moody, yet. I did, however, decide to take a walk (or get on the treadmill) when the urge strikes me. That way I can get my steps too! I’ll just have to see how that goes! I've been drinking lots of water. I bought a little pink jug and have to fill and drink at all twice a day. So far its been perfect. The only trouble is cleaning the dumb thing!

Day 2 – 10/24/08
Weight – 187.0 (That silly, elusive 186.9!)
Steps – 10,011 (I needed 10,000… whew!)

Looks like I'm living on the edge! LOL!

I've been in a maintenance month on the Step Diet. On November 1, I go back up to 12,500 steps. Seems like a ton to me now since I have been slacking and barely getting 10,000!

Redballoon – Nice to meet you! My name is spelled Hiedi, though I don’t get all in a mess if it is misspelled. Thanks for asking!

Modcat44 – This does seem like a wonderful thread. I’m glad I’m here! Other then me being 4 inches shorter than you, it looks like we have very similar goals! Congrats on the 188.8! I have an Omron pedometer and I love it. I’ve had it forever. The clip just broke yesterday, but I still have a tether strap. I actually just ordered a new Omron off Amazon last week! It’s black and has a computer program to track steps. Seems cool to me!

Texscrapper
– Welcome! I’m new too! Good luck with the exercise, I’m sure you can do it! It looks like you might have a pal with Quixotica!

Quixotica – HI!

Have a terrific day all! I signed up to take a fun class today and I have to get going.

Tex and Shari - welcome and good luck! Can;t wait till I can get my sorry butt together and make an exercise challenge, hehe Go, girls, go!

Arabella - whew - good luck on all of those!!

Hiedi - what class you taking? WTG on the smoking! That must be rough! But good for you to combat it with exercise! I keep wondering how I can rechannel some of my emotional stuff into exercise. Does"running away" count asexercise?

Red - where are your challenges honey?!

As for me - well, Ive been pretty good so far. I'm on day 4 of awareness and serenity thoughts. I might nix the serenity thoughts and substitute them for voodoo thoughts... Maybe I'll start a new challenge - planning food again. I do so much better when I plan.. I'll mull over that.

Tomorrow the week starts. I usually count the hours till work on Sunday morning, but I'm feeling lethargic and out of sorts. I have to undergo a nasty female medical test, and that weighs on me <like I didn't have enough things weighing on me without that!!>

Well - here's to a successful week!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! Well, I got up after I first posted this thread and put in my exercise tape, so I am 1/1

Sheri - Glad to have an exercise buddy! Hope that you git your hike in today!

Arabella - Good luck with your goals! I may need to try the "eat only when seated" - that would be a great one for me!

Sassy - WTG on not smoking! You can do it!

Miriam - good luck with your test! Hope you get the results you're wanting.

Oh Goodness. Thanks for all the support everyone! Red, Modcat & Miriam! I think I will be able to pull myself together. You are right, Miriam, about going to the doctor. I have an appointment coming up with my gynecologist and I'm going to ask her to run a blood panel. Last time I went to see her we found out about my thyroid stuff, so we'll see. But I also believe that I can push myself a little harder. And once I get started I think it will get better, easier.
I might have to pick up that book you are reading, Red. If I can find the time to read!
So here are a few challenges to get started.
No Beer, 2 pauses
1 productive hour after the kids go to bed, 2 pauses
Daily Salad, 3 pauses
30 min exercise daily, 2 pauses
Here we go!
New dog came with a name, Jupiter. I can't seem to call her that though. I'll get it eventually. I'd love to get a photo of all 3 together like modcat has, but the old guy might not be too cool with it. I'll try.
Hello to tex & sassy, welcome to our group! And Quix too!

hi girls I think I'm going to jump in and try this challenge. I always have such a hard time motivating myself to do toning/lifting type exercises.

My goal is to do some lunges, squats, pushups/hand weights, and crunches each day. I would like to try to incorporate them into a routine, so I'm going to go easy on myself with 3 pass days.. I'm hopeing I see some results and it'll get me more excited to do them! As of right now, I just get really winded

Good luck everyone! I'm hopeing to finally get past this plateau and finally see a change on the scale.

Default Day 5

Hi everyone! Wow, new thread, new people, new day! tex, quix, bekko, hi sassy, apple, red, miriam, arabella!!

My week is going well, today is Day 5 for me unless I just start over, but, I really earned the last 4 days! My challenges are:

1) Exercise at least 1 hour 5 days/week and more than 1 hour a 6th day. No pauses, because I built in a free day each week.
2) No sweets, either with real sugar or artificial. This has exceptions--my tea (limited to one teaspoon) and 1 piece dark chocolate at night. Only FRUIT or PLAIN YOGURT (with fruit, probably) when I get the cravings. 3 pauses
3) 6 bottles of H2O or approximately 100 oz. every day. 3 pauses

The biggie is the sweets. And just ramping up the exercise thing. I have already been doing some most days, but not always an hour. Just gotta keep pushing.

I was 190 approximately a few days ago, now 189. I'm just posting it here to keep track and see where I am at in approx. 3 weeks.

Good Luck--everyone sounds like they have good plans!

Apple, all the pets "develop" their names as time goes on anyway, dontcha' know? Why else are my three responding to "Bells or LG" "Poopy or Big Fat Pooh Show" and "Schmells or Stinky" ??? The funny thing is, they all know their individual nicknames, even though they have multiple ones! Only the one dog will come when we say his or her nickname. And yes, they know their original name as well. So smart!

Well, Day 3 is coming to a close and I am feelin’ fine! I didn’t get a chance to get on the treadmill throughout the day, so I had to do it all at once. YUK! I much prefer to not feel so pressured!

Day 3 – 10/25/08
Weight – 186 (WOOT! I’m down a pound!)
Steps – 10,519 (Goal was 10,000)

Miriam – I finally decided to take a Reiki class. I have been interested in it for years, but had been in school for my Master’s and really unable to do anything fun. I graduated in May and now it’s all about me! LOL! You cracked me up. I wish running away counted as exercise! Quitting smoking is going OK, though I learned (the hard way) that I should NOT sleep in the patch! Keep thinking serenity-ily … it’ll do ya good! I think that’s an awesome goal.

Bekko – Welcome! Great goals! It sounds like you’ve thought this through. With all that, I’m sure you’ll see results. I wanna hear all about it!

Hello to all! Chat more later!

Day 4 complete

I feel yucky today - think maybe TOM is around the corner.

That - and a sore throat. Ugh.

Welcome bekko!

Apple - happy you're back! We have thyroid stuff in the family too. I keep hoping it'll pass me over, seeing as I was the one who got struck with the gestational diabetes..

Mod and Hiedi - you all are doing awesome on your challenges!
Mod - why start over? Those days mean a LOT!

Smile a new start............

Hi there all! Glad to see so many new faces. Here's wishing our three newcomers, texscrapper, bekko and Quixotica, a big welcome! Best of luck on your challenges!

I'm going to start over with my challenges tomorrow. And I think I'm going to make them more specific this time around. The Big Picture Challenge is too difficult to assess. I'll still keep doing it kind of as an extracurricular though.

I am not doing too good because I am feeling really down about riding and the fact that I have to take a month off from riding my horse because she has pain in her legs. I am missing her SO much.

**************
miriam -- Good going on Day 4! Hope you feel better soon!

sassy -- Congrats on Day 3! And, hurrah for the pound lost!

modcat -- Yeah, don't start over! Why would you do that. Do you have any pauses? Well, I hope you make it through clear anyhow!

Apple -- Glad to hear you are feeling more positive. i hope that there's nothing really wrong with you and that you are just feeling a bit down and lazy, which means you can get over it! Good luck on your new challenges. How about Jupe for short? If you like, you can send me separate photos of your dogs and I can Photoshop them together for you.

Arabella -- OK, you're starting out new too. I feel the same way, new thread and all.... Glad you like the title!

Thumbs up Wow, threads a'poppin!

Day 2. Day 1 was good but included 10 brown rice chips and a little hummus pre-dinner which has me up a pound (206.8). And I thought, you know, if I just had the baby carrots instead -- which would have worked out fine, since I was eating in about a half-hour -- that would have been a lot fewer calories. Still well within my points and all but, thing is, I'm losing very slowly so obviously something needs adjusting. Much as I hate to admit it.

So, my overall challenge now is to address that. Stupid reality!

Red, sorry you've got to stay off your horsey friend for a while. Can you think of something enjoyable you can do as a substitute?

Miriam, take good care of yourself! Some pampering might help you resist that stupid cold (or whatever). Plus TOM? Treat yourself like a princess! Are you Reiki? (I apologize if I knew and forgot.) Me too!

Sassy, I've got an Omron pedometer that you can download data from -- it's great! So nice to see the progress in charts and etc.

Bekko

Modcat, sugar is the But it's so much easier to stay away from after a few days without (or with very little, as you're doing).

Apple, I admire you for trying to be productive after the kids are in bed. At our house, we end up sitting around for an hour and a half or so after dinner and then going to bed. Now I'm out 3-4 nights a week after dinner, though, which is lots better for me.

all!
Let's take this day we've been given and make it work for us.
