:grouphug: Thanks so much for the birthday wishes!:woo: I am getting closer to the big one, 40, so I need to get into high gear and really get serious about my health. I am 38 today so I have two years to get busy! :carrot:

We are heading out to do some shopping and grab some birthday lunch somewhere. Have a great day!:smug:

Hey, everyone! I woke up early this morning with a killer headache. Its better after espresso, and ibuprofen and some food, but not gone. So, here I am dragging with SO much to do! I did get over to Costco and with the help of the asst. warehouse manager, I got in touch with the flower lady and ordered the flowers I needed. I picked up a few items we needed, and two rotisserie chickens for meals today. Unfortunately, Tom is working on the hot water line to the kitchen sink, so the hot water is off, and I can't get in there and work. I need to fix another of the groom's cake, this time with nuts, to see if I can get the recipe to work well. The one I made without nuts looked awful, but tasted incredible! So what do I want? Good looks, or good taste? Decisions, decisions...

Breakfast: chicken salad, rye crackers, wedge of laughing cow light cheese
Lunch: Rotisserie chicken white meat, raw baby carrots, brown rice

I have not decided about dinner but it may be more rotisserie chicken. :)

Off I go!

dripping 02-25-2006 02:46 PM

I've never been to a wedding where there is a groom's cake. I had to go see what it is. Anything that has the word "cake" is something I am sure to want. Could you save a piece for me please?

B was shredded wheat and ff milk. Haven't had that in a long time and really enjoyed it. I am really getting into SB mode.

Ellen 02-25-2006 04:14 PM

DRIP: I think the groom's cake is more of a southern tradition. It usually has marzipan fruit on it, or is decorated for a hobby of the groom. I have done all kinds of crazy ones. I did a pig with a doughnut for a policeman, two pigs dressed as a bride and groom for another wedding where both the bride and groom were policemen, 3-d fish, computers, diving gear, a helicopter, you name it..its fun!

I am procrastinating...what else is new?

Thin---Happy Birthday to YOU!!! :balloons: Hope your day is wonderful.

Drip and Monet--I'm decorating the top of the groom's cake with a cute little gator, all dressed up in top hat and tails, even with a walking stick. How cute is that!! It is chocolate, heavenly moist with deep dark chocolate icing. Only 8" but that is enough.
We've finished almost all the "chores" around here getting the garden ready. We pressure washed the back porch where a ton of people will sit, if they are not out on the patio. We still are not sure if our guitar man will be on the porch or patio. I guess we'll decide after he gets here and we see what the weather is like. So all we need to do is spray a tiny bit of Round-Up and make sure the yard man has everything looking spiffy, and we're ready to go.

We are going to a French party tonight so I've got to go.

dripping 02-25-2006 07:30 PM

The groom cakes sound wonderful. You can express the uniqueness of the person/couple with the way you add the decorations. I wonder why the tradition never made it to the north.

Now I have to figure out what a french party is :?:

Two weddings happening and you're both still able to come and visit with us? That's amazing. I'd be a nervous wreck.

Do you come to Sarasota? That's where I live. I would love to get together
if and when you come!

BOB
I don't get down there often enough! I usually stay in a great little place on Lido key that is right on the beach and has kitchens.

Then I make sure to visit the Ringling and say hello to all the Rubens and see that funky little Elizabethan theater. And (oh, yes) to drool at the David.

My company has a hospital down there. If I get the chance to visit again anytime soon, I'll give ya plenty of advance notice!!! :D

And I agree that groom's cake must be a Southern thing. All the ones I've ever tasted were chocolate and full of fruit and nuts and frosted with chocolate. Guess it varies, though...those that you mentioned sounded cute!

Hi all,

Its been nasty here today. Rained almost all day and it rained all nite. I had a ton of work to do today beings I've been gone all day for 4 days.:rain:

I just wanted to say hi to everyone and hope you have a great weekend!!!!

Welcome waterbaby:welcome3:

Menu for the day was:

Breakfast-2 eggs scrambled with ham, onion, and a cup of coffee

snack-apple

Lunch-Chef salad with lots of lettece, tomatoe, Ham, cheese, one slice of egg, salad toppings and 2 TBS ranch dressing and trisquits

snack-apple

Supper-chicken sausage stir fry with zuccini, sausage, onion, green beans, carrots.

1 1/2 gallons of water

Monet-Where would you get a Chocolate fountain and is it very expensive....I am catering my sisters wedding in April and thought that would be better than a plain fruit platter. If I can't get it would it be ok to use a fondue pot and put it in the middle of a large tray of strawberries?

:dust: :balloons: :grouphug:

I also lost another lb bringing my total lose to 23 lbs.....:carrot:

GatorGal 02-25-2006 10:14 PM

Sonya--You can rent chocolate fountains. At least in Orlando you can.

A groom's cake came about when the bride wanted to give her new husband a gift of a cake, since the wedding cake was all about the bride, being decorated the way she wanted. Normally the groom's cake is chocolate or a dark cake, in contrast to the wedding cake.

A French party is a pot-luck supper with a bunch of people that speak french and who eat supper together and then watch a French movie together. Tonight we watched Manon des Sources (Manon of the springs) which is the sequel to Jean de Florette. They both were dramas, and tragedies. Yves Montand was the star in both. Great movies. The most french thing we had to eat tonight was cheese fondue with french bread for dipping. Mmmmmm. My DH doesn't speak French, so some english was spoken. Also, the movie had english subtitles.

Well, I'm tired so I'm gonna hit the hay.

I spent several hours tonight going through pictures. We want to put up pictures of Justin and Laura from when they were little, on up to when they met in seperate frames, then put one of the two of them together in the middle in a frame by itself. I already purchased the frames. In addition, we want to put pictures of the two of them dressed as clowns in frames with a little teddy bear we found dressed as a clown. Its so cute! Justin had a bad experience as a clown...he tripped over his clown shoes and all his candy from trick or treating fell down into the sewer! His mother is determined though! :) I found a ton of cute pictures of Laura when she was little. She will probably be mad at me. At least I have no nudes of her! :lol3:

THUNDER: You can rent a chocolate fountain, but they are ridiculously expensive. Do you have a Linens and Things near you? I saw one there that is much bigger than mine and $49. I almost bought it. The one I got at Wal Mart was $29, but only holds about a pound and a half of chocolate. The one at LnT held 5 pounds. I am just going to have strawberries around it, so I am hoping the smaller size will be ok. I will let you know...but if you want one and don't mind it being small, get it at Wal Mart. You can use regular chocolate in them, with the addition of some oil to help keep it viscous. To rent one would cost way more than buying one!

WATER: I loved Ringling. The Rubens were exquisite! I can't wait to go back and see it all again. I am determined to meet BOB.....

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 02-26-2006 01:55 PM

AFTERNOON EVERY BUDDY!!!

First thing on the agenda is something that I forgot!!! THIN....http://bestsmileys.com/birthday2/1.gif

So sorry I didn't get it done on time, and I hope you had a really good one!

CLAIRE....Which Hospital System do you work for? I'm at Sarasota Memorial, but I know it's not that one because we're a public hospital. PLEASE DO contact me...we can do dinner, and or something fun!

DRIPPPING....DANG GIRL...you're going to be a busy BUDDY...have fun at both
celebrations!

THUNDER...You've got a task ahead of you and I don't envy you at all...ask away for suggestions!

THE GROOMS CAKE....definately a Southern thing, and I've seen all shapes and sizes...they are set aside from the Brides cake..usually on a separate table. Remember STEEL MAGNOLIAS????

I'm still doing laundry...determined to get it all done...so I'll be gone for now...

Monet -- I do so love art, and the Ringling is just gorgeous. I'd like to meet BOB too -- and you -- and golly, everyone here!

BOB -- I work for HCA and the hospital we own is Doctors Hospital of Sarasota. Memorial is a great facility, too.

Thin - belated birthday wishes! I was 53 last Halloween and look 10 years younger. My friends tell me I look great; my enemies tell me I'm well-preserved, LOL!:gift:

I'll be back later. Seems like every time I get on here to leave a message, DH wanders in and reads behind my back. AARGH!

More later!!

dripping 02-26-2006 04:41 PM

BOB, I didn't make myself clear I guess...I'm not going to two weddings, I was commenting on Monet & Gator...both of them making groom's cakes and doing things to get ready for weddings. Sorry about that. :dizzy:

I spent time in the kitchen today preparing food for the week. I hate to cook so I usually make something that I can eat all week. It doesn't bother me to eat the same thing as long as it saves me from spending much time cooking when I come home from work. It was a little harder to do today because I have a leak under my sink and I had to be very careful using water. I sure hope the man who does my repairs gets better soon.

I was very proud of myself...I took a brisk ten minute walk today which for me is equivalent to running a marathon. It's still too cold to be out walking, but at least it was an attempt to get moving. I have an exercise DVD but the DVD player conked out on me this weekend. I bought a new one today but couldn't get it hooked up right.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Hey everyone! Its been an eventful day. We cut the two cakes I made last night, and one did well, and one did not. So I may have to do another trial run to see if it was the pan and what I can do to make it work better. Sheesh...its expensive to mess up! The cake costs close to $10 to fix one batch, so you can see why making more than three trials of it is not exciting me. My family, on the other hand, is delighted. Even the ones that could be considered 'mess ups' are delicious! My son, who does not eat sweets has eaten half a cake this afternoon! He is the one encouraging me to make TWO more trials...yeah, uh huh... The cake is dark, chocolatey and fudgy. Totally yummy!

We need to leave for church in 30 minutes. Tom is fixing us some cappachino. I sure need it! I just drank a diet coke with splenda, and it hardly phased me.

WATER: Yay! Another art lover! I teach art at a small, private elementary school. I just went back to teaching this year, and I am loving it. I remember that museum very well. I grew up in the Chicago area and spent many a vacation day in the Art Institute. I thought Ringling was very impressive for what was essentially a private collection.

DRIP: :cheer: Good for you in getting that walk in!

I need to go drink my coffee!

KayeC 02-26-2006 08:27 PM

Well I've worked since Thursday so thats why I've been missing.
Not looking forward to MMM as I'm on my period and this weekends eating hasn't been great. :(

Hi dripping, I cook brown rice in the microwave and have good luck with it. 1 cup brown rice, 2.5 cups water.Cover and cook on high for 5 minutes. Reduce temp to defrost and cook for 45 minutes. This can be done ahead and just reheat your rice.

Welcome waterbaby!!!!!

Happy belated birthday Thin!

Monet, I love cream cheese mints probably better than cake. I had beautiful mauve cream cheese mint roses at my wedding with sparkly sugar on top.

Tomorrow I'm going to a travel agent to get to work planning our anniversary trip. The last one I tried I just couldn't communicate with. Kind of makes me understand why so many people are booking thru the internet.

Had rotisserie chicken, salad and sweet potatoe for dinner.
