Brown Sugar

Nicolee: I think that sugar twin has a brown sugar replacement but I am not positive about that... check at one of your larger grocery stores for it.

Hope that helps.

Talitha: I'm with you... toss the scales :D

Morning All....Sounds like some of you had a night like mine. I did not sleep well at all...was about 3 am before I finally went to sleep. Of course, that is probably since I had the day off yesterday and spent a lot of it napping.

Nicolee-Sugar Twin and Sweet N Low both have a brown sugar replacement.

BTW-What is Agave?

Well, I could not find any WW bagels that did not have added sugar. Do they exist? And, I forgot to buy Triscuits at the store last night so I guess I will only be getting 1-2 starches today after all. Have a great day everyone.

NICOLEE: If you are going to use Royal Icing for the decorations, then, no, there is nothing else you can use for the powdered sugar. Royal icing dries hard, and I know of no substitutes for it when you want that kind of icing. An alternative to the chocolate chips is to get a 70% chocolate bar and coarsely chop it to use instead of chips. You can also melt it, and pipe it for the decorations instead of royal icing. Its not real easy to do, but would be MUCH more legal than royal.

TALITHA: I think we will not be able to meet at the market until mid March. Your next time to go is March 3, right? That is the Friday before the wedding and I will be entertaining out of town guests, setting up the reception, and making the cakes! :yikes: Give Selah a big hug and kiss from Auntie Monet, and tell her in March I will bring MY little girl to meet her...but warn her MY little girl is pretty big! LOL

MANDI: Agave is a honey like sweetner derived from the agave plant. (yep, think tequila) It is like 90% fructose, so it has a low glycemic index and is therefore legal in moderate amounts. You can find it online (Sweet Cactus Farms) or at health food stores.

Good morning.

After six weeks of mostly eating OP I had total melt down yesterday. Two pieces of garlic toast and a piece of cheese cake. What's so bad is I bought some sugar free jello so I could have a treat while they ate cheese cake but chose to indulge. Cheese cake is my very favorite and we rarely eat it. Oh well, back on track...right? :)

Welcome to all the new ladies over the last two weeks. I hope you find this plan will work for you.

Monet....thanks for starting the board and keeping us motivated. You are an awesome moderator.

Talitha...hang in there. It's okay to have a lazy week every now and then. Your body is just resting up for when the new one arrives.

Toni...are you still snowed in? Hope you are warm and cozy while stuck inside.

Princess....Scales are the enemy.. :) Okay, not really. It just feels that way sometimes. ((hugzz))

Solly...howdy lady! Your energy is amazing. Good job going to the gym. Hopefully today I can drag myself outside. It was just TOO cold over the weekend.

Munch...I wish I thought white bread tasted bland. It's been almost five years and when I cheat I still enjoy each and every bite. :) Sounds like you had a really nice evening.

Time to get moving. We are getting a really late start today since we were up until almost 3.

Love and hugs,
Crystle

Oh don't worry! This would be for the folks at work. They were waiting for me at the door this morning -- I made the mistake of mentioning that was what I was doing last night. They were pretty funny ... one guy had a table set with plates and jam.

After work I'm going to Whole Foods to see if I can find (a) the agave and (b) the brand of WhWh flour that was mentioned. I'll just have to figure out the amount I need. I suppose it will activate the yeast like regular sugar does? Hmmm ... I need to give this more thought.

Katpo 02-21-2006 12:52 PM

Ah ... I just looked again and saw the post from yesterday on the instructions. That's exactly how I'm going to make it tonight. In fact, I think I'll go to Whole Foods right now.

Katpo 02-21-2006 01:40 PM

Alrighty, my book is at home and I'm at work and I have a question. I tried to search but came up, of course, with every support thread and am ... ahem ... feeling too lazy to look thru every post! What about Stevia? If I can't find the agave, could I use the Stevia instead?

Talitha 02-21-2006 01:56 PM

Kids are down for a nap. Instead of falling in bed myself, I'm goign to relax with a cup of tea and spend 20 minutes on the computer. Then I'll start tackling the laundry pile that's bigger than the bathroom....sigh....

I'm positing a recipie.Wasn't that one of the challenges?

Quick Creamed Asparagus Soup

1 can asparagus
chicken broth
1tb cream cheese
1 vegetable bullion cube

Drain the liquid from the can of asparagus. With the asparagus still in the can, fill it back to the top with chicken broth. Dump in a blender with the bullion cube and cream cheese. Blend for 60 seconds. Microwave for 3 minutes (till warm). Serve!!!

I thought my mom was CRAZY when she told me this was how she made this soup a month ago. I just made it for lunch and it was great!! I posted it the way I did it. She just throws the can of asparagus in the blender, liquid and all and adds a cube of chicken bullion. I only had vegetable bullion and using the liquid was grossing me out for some reason. I added the cream cheese to make it creamy. It was great!! maybe a bit too salty.

My menu so far today:

B- 1/2 WW Bagel w/ cream cheese, 1 small grapefruit, 1 cup of Pregnancy tea (nothing added)

S- 8 mini spelt pretzels

L- Asparagus soup, 4 triscuits, another cup of Pregnancy tea (this time with a little rice milk)

I've got to cut back on the starches. It's just so much easier right now. I'm going to make my turnips and pork for dinner that Bob suggested awhile back. Wish me luck!!

Mandi--Welcome. Your niece is so precious!!! What a doll! Re. the popcorn, the only reason it is not "legal" is that it is pretty much 100% starch. Of course it has som fiber, but that corn is pure starch. If there were such as thing as "whole grain" popcorn, it might be legal. But on occasion, especially if there are days when you don't have but perhaps one other starch, a serving of popcorn would be find. Just watch to see that it doesn't trigger cravings. If so, omit it in the future.

Nicolee--Here's my vote:
Just make the cookie so it tastes good to your husband. After all, it is HIS birthday. Then, have a VERY SMALL piece yourself, and limit it to that.
Here's another recipe that is very easy, in fact easier than yours, and about the best tasting cookie that I know of.
1 box Jiffy yellow cake mix. Jiffy is the small, one layer portion box.
1 egg
1/4 cup salad oil
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix all together with medium speed of mixer until well combined. Add 6 oz. chocolate chips. I also add 6 oz. broken pecan pieces. It is THICK with chocolate and nuts. It is fabulous. Everyone adores these cookies. Bake at 350° for 10-12 min. I use of of those air-baking sheets and the cookie is perfect after about 12 minutes. Watch them carefully during baking so that they are done perfectly and not overbrowned.
To make one large cookie, just dump all the dough onto cookie sheet and form into one large circle. It will make a cookie about the size of a very large dinner plate. I use a pizza cutter to cut wedges. Good luck and have fun, no matter what you decide to do.

Good morning ladies.....

Spent all day yesterday with my best friend doing the thrift store shopping that we do every President's Day. This has become a ritual for us and is a very nice time. We hit a few thrift stores and then hit the Arboritum for their chopped salad. This is one of the best salads I have ever eaten.....fancy lettuce mix, crab, bacon bits, bleu cheese crumbles, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados, olives all with a dijon mustard vinegarette. Yummy!! Then we shop some more!! It is a full day of fun, and we don't get to see each other too often. I didn't find too many goodies though, I bought some more birthday cards for Vicky, and found some wine glasses that I bought. That was it for me. I decided that I was not hauling home someone elses junk when I am so short on space. Only things that I really need! I was hoping to get here before I left, but got in my exercise and was running late. Fell asleep on the couch last night, so didn't get here then either......

Not much going on today....it is starting to warm up, so might get ambitious and walk up the hill with Buddy. He misses his walks when the weather is bad.

Here is yesterday and todays menu....

B-- Venison hot link, 1/2 grapefruit, Lite 85 yogurt.
snack-- apple
L-- Chopped Salad
snack-- orange
D-- Vension hot link, WW roll, fresh veggies and ff dip..........wasn't too hungry and dh had already eaten by the time I got home. Pria carb select bar.

B-- 2.5 slices turkey bacon, 1/2 grapefruit, Lite 85 yogurt
snack-- apple
L-- Tuna salad (actually trout that we canned) on a ww wrap, fresh veggies with FF dip.
snack-- orange
D-- Grilled rib steak, salad with lite BC, stir fried veggies.

Here is the link to a cute little IQ test......I am stumped on a few of them,

http://intelligence-test.net/part1

I can't seem to to get numbers 12, 24, 28, 29, 30, 31, and 33. Let me know if anyone figures these out, please.

mandi78 02-21-2006 03:12 PM

Wow! This thread is really busy. That's awesome cause it will help me to stay on plan if I am constantly reading new replies and everyone is talking about weight lost, recipes that are legal, etc.

GatorGal- Thanks....we think she is pretty special. She's gotten to where she does this little fake cough if everyone is not paying attention to her and watching her. It's so funny.

Talitha-What brand of WW bagels do you get? I looked Wal-Mart yesterday and all the WW ones they had also had added sugar.

Talitha 02-21-2006 03:18 PM

Mandi- Yep this board can be really great! Unfortunately my bagels are from the local Farmer's Market. They do have sugar, but I don't bother with that since I'm pregnant. At this point I'm jsut working on not eating dounuts and strudel for breakfast. I just want sugar and fat all day long!!! SO different than my otehr 2 pregnancies where I onlygained about 15 lbs each.

Katpo 02-21-2006 03:31 PM

Colleen, I have 12 and 29. Got 23 out of 33 ... but now my brain hurts! I don't want to tell you unless you really, really want me to.

That's what I'm going to do, but I wanted a tweaked version just to see how they tasted later on. I'll have to try that Jiffy cake recipe.
