Good Tuesday Morning All:wave:
Was working a bit on the new quarterly recipe board and posted a few recipes. I think this way is going to work out better in the long run. Do you think we should leave the boards as they are now, with the categorized boards at the top and the quarterly (and old boards) at the bottom, or, should we create a new category for the quarterly boards that would be at the top of all the categorized boards? If the later, what should we title this board. ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!! PLEASE POST ALL RECIPES FROM HERE ON ON THE QUARTERLY BOARDS Have to go to Broward with my DM tomorrow. Parents finally bought a new car. The old one is still running, but I think it's 12 years old now and Mom finally decided she was over-due. So, tomorrow I have to drive her up there to get her new baby. I think she may just save the old one for the kids to drive, though that's not going to be happening any time soon, it may just fall apart from non-use in her driveway. My DD hates driving so he has no interest in driving it unless he has to get somewhere and my DM isn't around. Eating is doing fabulous, but my goals of drinking more water are not. I take the darned bottle with me everywhere but just have no desire to drink a sip from it. Going to try to do better today! MUSIC, glad to see you're back on track, not a big mess up and you probably won't see any effects from it since you did get right back on track. Wish I had the secret of being able to do that! MAE, let us know how it goes today! GOOD LUCK!!! Pictures? I don't remember ever getting any. If you e-mailed them to me and I didn't recognize the e-mail address then I can tell you they got deleted. Can you resend them and put in the subject area SB? Will be more than happy to post them if I can. Love putting a name and face together! I'm so sorry to hear about your friends passing, esp. when there's a small child involved. DAWN, thanks for the heads up about that good recipe. Many times we don't know what recipes are worth trying if people don't mention that they tried them and liked them. JACKK, since being on SB I've spent triple the hours at the library than I have in my entire life. I find if there's a recipe book I see on Ebay or Half that I'll try to see in the library has it first to see if I like it before buying it. THEN when I found out they had videos, well, that had me there even more. They are now getting more DVD'S in. Down here, it's free for 7 days and you can renew them as long as there's not another person requesting that title. Sure can't beat the price! Recipe boards...it is more work, esp. since I still haven't done all I need to do with the boards as is, BUT, I think in the long run, this will be best. I was thinking if I could have a RECIPE BOARD MONITOR it would really be helpful as well. If I could get one person each quarter to copy the recipes that have been posted and put them in the correct category, it would be great. Still deciding... What you said about jumping back on track and being habit, of course it made sense, I just have to figure out how to make it stick with me! I don't see for me that it gets better when I do go off plan, but worse. I have to figure out why, maybe then I can go off plan for a meal and get back on, but right now, I still don't know how. TONI, had the same for dinner down here, minus the cheese. ELI made fattoush, a Lebanese salad. What brand are the buns from the HFS, wondering if they are a national brand. Would love to see a pic of you, and the surroundings - get that camera out and say "CHEESE!!!!" QUILTER, LOL, can't comment much on the Chinese food. We have a PFCHANGS here and I've never been. I don't eat Chinese any more, the closet I will do is Thai food and that's very once in a purple moon! You know I'm a definite believer in journaling! I only do my food, but I do journal thoughts from time-to-time as well. Many people believe it helps to write down your feelings as you might find a pattern to see what triggers your eating and thus be able to deal with those conflicts better when they arise. What got you in to the jewelry? Sounds like you've really gotten the lingo down. The stuff I have is more for solid pieces, like pins and flat earrings, not much that could be hung from necklaces, and the like. Who knows, one day, you may just be making jewelry for the STARS!!!! If I lived closer, I'd definitely be doing it with you!!! ELI says since I lost weight that I'm always cold. If you're cold now, with the weight off, you'll definitely be colder, but hey, there are worse things in life AND you can put layers of clothes on to keep you warm. Here's a post I found on another website: There are several reasons you may feel colder due to dieting and weight loss. If you’ve lost weight, realize that you have less “insulation” (body fat) now. People who are overweight tend to feel the cold less than lean people. (People often notice feeling "too hot" when they gain weight.) Overweight people are often the ones turning on the air conditioning when the lean people are turning on the heater! During Weight Loss, you experience a natural decrease in metabolism due to the reduced amount of calories you’re consuming. It’s like putting less fuel in the furnace – all those calories you used to eat were added fuel that increased body temperature! Your metabolism will increase when you’re on Lifetime Maintenance and consuming more calories. Some people experience the opposite: they feel warmer during certain times of the program because their metabolism actually increases for a period of time because of the foods they’re eating (protein) and the regularity of food intake (three meals, three snacks). People who did not eat full, regular meals prior to the program may have lowered their metabolism with that type of eating. Weight loss and dieting can cause a change in hormone levels. Because a small amount of estrogen is produced in fatty tissue, some individuals may experience hormonal changes when they lose weight. This is normal. The hormonal changes can affect your body temperature. Also, people who have high blood pressure due to being overweight tend to feel warmer than they would with a normal blood pressure. When their blood pressure lowers as a result of their change in eating habits and weight loss they may feel colder. Physical activity increases the metabolism and gets your “internal furnace” burning. You’ll probably find you’re less cold when you increase your daily physical activity level. Give it a try – it will benefit your weight and your mental well-being and your general health whether or not it makes a significant difference in your body temperature! Your body will adapt once your weight stabilizes after achieving your goal and you’ll probably feel less cold then than you do now. You won’t have as much fat, however, so you’ll experience temperature differently than you did previously. Keep in mind that your experience when you’re a healthy, normal weight will be the “normal” one! So for now, "bundle up", "move more" and keep moving toward your lean weight goal! Best wishes for lean and healthy success! Debbie Riley, L.V.N. Lindora Nurse Educator FRUIT, you go girl! Great going on staying OP. Don't worry about day-to-day, take it hour-by-hour and it will add up! It's so good to see your positive attitude and exhilaration in your post this morning, all from being OP and thinking positive! Just imagine how you feel will reflect upon the kids you teach every day!!!!! MONET, cheesecake for breakfast - you are my type of gal!:D MOM, don't worry about licking the digets, you didn't mean to and I think we all do that without thinking many times. I do understand about what you mean about the ST BOARDS being "argumentative", many people say the same thing. I don't go over there much, our board keeps me VERY busy as is, but I think the problem over there is, people go on SB and after a brief time, they think they are "experts" and give out much false information and then battle it out with the people who think they know more. That's just my thinking. Anyway, we are happy you finally joined us!:D Sounds like you are back on track now, so don't look back at what was, just look forward to what's coming. BTW, we have quite a few teachers on the board, so you're in good company. When you get a chance, please post your BIO on the BIO BOARD so we can learn a bit more about you. You can, of course, spill the beans here as well;) JENNIFER, glad to see you back, was wondering where you went off to! Glad to hear you and SUZANNE had a day together for her bday. I didn't know it was yesterday, will have to send her a greeting. How old pray tell, is she (about). What the heck is the GAZALLE, sure does sound like a device to be in the Dungeon! LOL! Good luck with the roller blades. I can't skate on 4 wheeled regular skates, I sure as heck can't stand up on in-line skates. GRACIOUS, woo hoo, 4lbs! Awesome! Are you sure you aren't shaking those pounds off from shivering as well? Geez, that's beyond cold! Well gals, I'm outta here. I have some stuff to get done before getting the kids today. PLEASE REMEMBER TONIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15PM I do plan on being there and will give notice to Michael and Lauren ahead of time. To get to the CHAT ROOM just click the CHAT LINK at the top of the page, or you can use the link below: http://www.3fatchicks.com/chat/ Please be patient for the applet to load and then go to the SUGAR BUSTERS ROOM Do remember, TOMORROW IS WEIGH IN WEDNESDAY!!!! A general guideline to servings:
Fats, Sweets, and Alcohol: These foods need to be eaten in small quantities because they are high in calories. The best fat choices are olive and canola oil and liquid or low-fat tub margarine. Try to avoid stick margarine, butter and lard. A serving of fat is 1 teaspoon. It has 45 calories and 5 grams of fat. Sweets often have fat and carbohydrate. Alcohol can raise or lower blood sugar, depending on what type you drink. Discuss alcohol use with your physician. Milk and Yogurt (2-3 servings a day): a serving has 12 grams of carbohydrate and 8 grams of protein. Low-fat and fat-free choices have about 100 calories and little fat. Healthy choices include skim milk and low-fat yogurt made with artificial sweetener. Meat, Fish, and Cheese (2 -3 servings a day): a serving has 21 grams of protein and no carbohydrate. Lean and very lean choices have the least fat and the fewest calories. Healthy, low-fat choices include baked or broiled fish, white meat of turkey or chicken, lean red meat or pork (look for the words "loin" or "round in the name - e.g. sirloin, tenderloin, round steak, pork tenderloin), reduced-fat or fat-free cheese or cottage cheese. Vegetables (3-5 servings a day): A serving has 5 grams of carbohydrate, about 25 calories, and no fat. Healthy, low-fat choices include fresh or frozen vegetables without sauce, butter, margarine or cheese. May steam in water with a little olive oil and top with a squeeze of fresh lemon and pepper. Fruits (2-4 servings a day): A serving has 15 grams of carbohydrate, about 60 calories, and no fat. Healthy choices include whole fresh fruits or canned fruits with no sugar added. Grains, Beans, and Starchy Vegetables (6 or more servings a day): A serving has 15 grams of carbohydrate, 3 grams of protein, and about 80 calories. Most have no more than 1 gram of fat. Healthy choices include whole-grain breads and high fiber cereals, tortillas, oatmeal, bulgur, brown rice, dried beans, lentils, peas, yams, acorn or butternut squash, pumpkin. |
Good morning to all.....
Well today is the day for the BIG INTERVIEW.....I sure hope I get it. It would sure help me out in a big way. Its hard being a single mom in the first place but when money is a issue there isn't anyway around it. Thanks for all the prayers that went up for me today. They are greatly appreciated. Also thanks for the prayers for my friends daughter. I was sooooooooo nervous last night and this morning I fell off program.....But I WILL START AGAIN TOMORROW...... |
Tuesday Morning!
Morning all! Yes, it is finally warming up here too--we may actually hit the 50s today!!!!! I am soooooo not a winter person.:(
Maemae--good luck on the interview! I'll keep a good thought for you! Deb--I'm partial to the food board being done in categories myself--and have posted recipies recently. I have some old ones that I posted a long time ago that I would be willing to repost if necessary. Good for you getting out to walk/run today! I'm headed to the gym as soon as I finish posting this. Missy--glad you have had a great couple of days! keep it up! Gracious--woooohoooo on shedding the water weight! Jennifer--glad to see you back on the board--always feel so disconnected from the world when the computer is down! Kim--I do seminars, but not on organization. If you could see my office you'd know why! I'm still working on the getting everything organized part--but you are right--that's the toughest part, but very very crucial! BOB--sounds like you are getting back to your sassy self! Got to go now--I hope everyone has a great day! Susan ps--I've not mentioned anything about my weight this week because I don't even get on the scale when TOM is here. I'll venture back in the next day or two! |
Mornin’ y’all. Well, it’s morning as I begin this, but it will probably be afternoon by the time I finish. Eating was back on track yesterday and I’ve already gotten in my two miles today so maybe the scales will start to go down.
QUILTER: Loved the jewelry. It’s beautiful. I’m all for being guilt free on Monday. I’m workin’ on it.:crossed: GRACIOUS: I’m glad it’s you with the snow and not me. This TEXAN likes warm weather. I know what you mean about some of the praise and worship music. It’s not very worshipful for me. I prefer Phillips, Craig and Dean and the like. So you’ve been bitten by the quilting bug, huh? It’s fun, isn’t it? I love it. I’m working on a Texas flag quilt. A friend asked me how I had time to quilt with three kids. I told her that it’s easy. I just neglect my family! MOMOF3REDS: Welcome aboard. What do you teach? I’m an elementary music teacher. It’s great. No state tests for me.:D HI JENNIFER! Get off the couch!:drill: TONI: Like I told Gracious, I like my weather WARM. Hope you can get out of the house soon. I would definitely have cabin fever.:dizzy: DEBBIE: Getting back on track has been easier this time than in the past. I think the walking is helping with my attitude. I wish I would hurry and see some results in the rear end department tho.:dz: MAEMAE: How did the interview go? FILISSE: I know what you mean about that winter weather. It’s in the 50’s here today, but rainy. I’m ready for 70’s and 80’s. Guess I better go. It’s time for kiddos to come to class. |
Well, this is the second time around to try and get a post done today. I keep getting interrupted, at work, imagine that. I had a terrific week-end. Went to dinner Friday night with friends, and had roasted eggplant with crawfish on top. Sounds awful, I know but it was really yummy. Probably pretty close to legal, no breading on the eggplant, although the sauce probably had too much heavy cream.
Saturday, we had dinner with Jordan's girlfriend's family. Looks like we're all going on vacation together. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about this, but I think it will be alright. We're going to rent a cabin in the Ozarks in Northern Arkansas and just do the nature time thing. The place has horses, fishing, hiking, etc. Should be fun and definitely not too expensive. His girlfriend is an only child and a senior also. I think her parents are getting a little antsy about her leaving. I'm really going to have a tough time of it with Jordan going to the Marines, but at least I still have one guy at home. Quilter - I'm with you on P.F. Changs. They're OK, but I think they're overpriced for what they are. I do like the lettuce wraps though. Fillise - I know exactly what you mean about getting on the scale with TOM. I know I'm up, I feel so bloated, so I'm not going to make myself crazy. Missy - Yippee for you!! Do you have our New Orleans get together planned yet? Get busy, girl! I know you don't have anything else to do. Musicteach - What is a music aptitude test? Seth starts middle school next year and of course band is one of the things he wants to do. He wants to do percussion and you have to score an 85 or better on the test but he doesn't even remember taking the test. He was going to talk to the music teacher today, so we'll see what she says. Maemae - This is me crossing my fingers and toes for your interview!!! Debbie - See my note to Fillise. We're not weighing this week. We're revolting against the one-eyed monster. Jack-K - Stay warm girl. How are your Cats doing basketball wise? The Horns moved up to #3 in the polls and promptly lost last night. Oh, well. We play Oklahoma State on Saturday. They're unbeaten in the conference so it should be a great game. Toni - Are you thawing out any up there? By the way, I looked up your area on the internet and it looks beautiful. I'm hoping we can get up to your neck of the woods when we're in Arkansas. From the map, it doesn't look like you're all that far. Better run. I know I missed some of you, I'll try to catch up later. Have a great day, everyone! Trish |
Monet--My DH was just up there in Atlanta for Monday and flew back today. He called and said it was betterly cold up there and that I would have been happy to be here at home.
Which I was, as it is rather nice--in the high 60s low 70s out there. Jennifer, nice to see you back. I was wondering if it was something we said . . . LOL I agree about how wonderful the outdoors is. Linworth--I bet the strawberry glaze is great. It would be super over the cheesecake that is topped with sliced berries arranged in a beautiful pattern. Raspberries would be equally as good. Quilter--Re. the question marks--it probably is how some keys transpose over into the form used on the SB page. I occasionally type a degree symbol, as in 375 degrees F, for a cake recipe, say. But when I hit the option and "k" key, like this, ?, it turns into a question mark on the board. It looks fine on the reply page, but a question mark on the display page. I agree about PFChangs. Not like a regular chinese restaurant, which is a ton cheaper. My DD wants to start walking more seriously and will be coming over at least one day a week to walk with me after she gets off from work. We will probably do 3 miles this evening if it doesn?t get too dark or too cold. I love daylight savings time because I can seem to get so much more done. My DD used to be a power walker, but now she thinks 3 miles is a lot!! I will be very busy the rest of the week. Will try to post but no guarantees. The big conference starts this Sat. and I have lots of stuff to handle. Then, we also have 2 houseguests staying here through Wed. They are the speakers for the conference. Sat. night dinner is Spanish food, that I think is not SB legal.. Should be interesting. BOB, hope you are feeling better now. We were so happy to see the TB Bucs win. |
Hey All:wave:
Thought I'd hop on and get in a quick post. Picked up Michael and have to go back for Lauren at 4:30pm-love when she tells me at the last minute she needs to stay after school! I keep forgetting to mention something...Now that I'm really watching portions, it truly amazed me to see what an actual serving of an apple was! SHOCKING! Would you believe, a serving is approx. only 3.6 ounces. Now, for those of you who have a food scale and an apple handy, go see just how much this really is! It's not much at all!!! MAE, soooo, how'd the interview go? Will be asking Michael, when he gets a change, how to manipulate those pictures you sent so I can get them uploaded on to the website-please be patient with me:^: FILLISE, I think doing it both ways will make everyone happy:D Ummmm, I didn't walk today - now you've made me feel guilty!! WAAAAHHHH!!! ;) MUSIC, hmmm, wish walking had that same effect on me, but unfortunately, it doesn't. TRISH, crawfish AND eggplant - hmmm, interesting:chin: When are you planning this Ozark vacation? Sounds fun! Just make sure you put Miami on your list of future vacations, would you? Girl, I'm with you on not weighing, I'm definitely feeling bloated and besides, I'm not suppose to weigh in til the 22nd of next month - and if anyone thinks I can stay off that scale that long:s: Once again, a reminder TONIGHT IS CHAT AT 9:15PM EST!!! Already told Michael I needed the computer at that time!!!! Until then, my arse will be glued to the couch watching AMERICAN IDOL!!! Toodles Deb |
Hello everyone.....
Well the interview went WONDERFUL (i think)...When I got back the lady that I had interviewed with had already called my supervisor (she wasn't in her office)...So they played phone tag and finally talked. They haven't made me an offer yet but she did ask if I were able to be let go to start on the 10th of Feb..... I am going to keep a positive outlook and hope for the best. They seemed like a wonderful group of people to work with. I'll keep ya'll posted....And thanks for the PRAYERS....Hopefully they were heard... |
I posted this question last Sunday and didn't get an answer so I'll try again.
I have a questions for all you Alabama girls. We were watching the UL-Al game last nite and everyone wondered why the mascott is an elephant. What does that have to do with Crimson Tide?? I told them I would find out. I knew I had some inside sources. Bob you probably know too. Thanks Jackie |
Hello all!
Boy, you miss Monday and you're really screwed trying to keep up with everyone! I've skimmed the previous posts but not very well! Tonight I should be able to post to all you lovely ladies and hopefully join chat also. Work's gone a bit crazy this week. We have our quarterly business meeting on Wednesday night, so everyone's in a tizzy trying to get ready. I've been eating rather well. I'll be eating VERY well once I've had some time to sit down and plan! Must run... See you tonight in chat. --Katrina |
Well the verdict is in.......................
I got the job..............I am sooooooo excited......I start on Feb 10. The hiring authority just called and I about screamed. Thanks for all ya'll prayers.....The Man Upstairs heard you all. |
Boy am I ready to call it a day. It has been busy all day. Looks like the warm temps have melted all the snow so I guess DH will be wanting to walk tonight.
Toni, We mut have been posting at the same time. Man you do live in the country. I guess your little town store is like a convenient or mini mart to us. I would hate to drive that far to the grocery. But I guess it's what you get used to. Deb, Have you tried putting a lemon in your water. I use a big cup full of ice and squeeze a lemon in it and use a straw. Ice and a straw really help too. But the lemon makes all the difference in the world. Thanks for the info on servings. I'm writing them down and checking averything. Just checked out my yogurt I just finished and it has 9 proteins and 15 carbs & 100 cals. Gosh the apples I have been buying are huge. I knew they were going to be 2 servings, but I bet they are more. Maemae, WTG on getting the job. I knew you would. Go celebrate with a legal meal. Fillise, good for you going to the gym. Glad you al are warmer too. Music, good for you being on track and getting your exercise in. The scale will have to move now. If you want help in the rear end dept, I do wall squats (actually I do them on a door), but they really helped my rear. Trish sounds like a great weekend. I don't know how I would feel about vacation with son's girlfriend's parents. I pray for yu sending you son off to the Marines. I would be miserable. Heck my DD is only an hour away at college and I have trouble with that. My CATS are ranked 7th or 8th. On a 9 game winning streak and haven't lost in conference play, yet. We have Florida and Ga coming up. That TX-OK should be a good game. Gator, have fun walking with your DD. It is always fun to have someone to walk with. It sure goes quicker. Good luck on your conference. Mom2Marsh, I have said all along that the secret to this WOE is planning and being prepared. Good job on your eating. Hope to be at chat tonight. Hope the scale is good to everyone tomorrow including me. :s: Jackie 257163/145 10-10-01 |
Quilter,
Just now had a chance to look at the pics of your jewelry. How nice. You are doing a great job. People are going to love get them as gifts. Heck I think you need to start selling them. Jackie |
Jack-K--Let a Gator 'splain it to ya.
The elephant became a symbol for Alabama as early as 1930. The newspaper described the team as powerful "elephants" and the name stuck. Today, "Big Al," as he is commopnly referred to, makes an appearance at every game and is known well for the swing of his trunk. Actually, I think they should dump the elephant. An elephant is not know for its brains, I don't think, and they are afraid of tiny mice. The Crimson Tide sounds much better, in my opinion. In their glory days, they rolled down the field like a crimson tide! |
