Kathy, Bernie eats core without even realizing it. Of course, he has his waffles in the morning, but we buy the ff ones. If you brown bag your lunch, won't Judd eat the same? I guess at the end of it, these guys are adults, and they have to take some responsibility.

I'm with you, Melissa. Even if it is true, that's silly. That kind of loss hardly ever stays off. You have to starve yourself to lose that much, which isn't healthy. Take it from a pro (many years of experience), it's just eating healthy and living healthy. Of course, easier said than done!:o

Katpo 06-02-2006 04:04 PM

I make our lunches and we usually have LOs from the night before, so that might not be so bad. He'd rather have a sandwich though, and needs a lot more food than me. I can get away with pineapple and FF cottage cheese for lunch -- he wouldn't touch it. The worst would be breakfast but I could probably let him have cereal, milk, banana and he would be happy with it. He could also eat Special K bars (2 pts) or even have a SF shake, which would be 4 pts. If that's all he used in a day, he would be okay.

The dinners I make are always Core because there's no other things we eat: it's usually some sort of chicken or fish, a salad, steamed vegetables, corn on the cob, pinto beans, etc. Only when I make hamburgers will he eat the bun, but I buy wheat buns so they aren't bad. He's a mustard and not mayo eater too, so that helps. He also drinks plenty of water too.

Here's tonight's dinner: panfried flouder, pinto beans (cooking them now), sauteed yellow squash and onions, and broiled portobello mushroom slices with teriyaki sauce. I might even make some polenta cakes to see what he says about it.

Good afternoon everyone, I have to get ready for work in a few min but I just stopped in to read posts so I don't get behind. Craig left for his mom's house this morning. He took my car since it is new so I have to drive his old truck to work....yuck! Oh well, I don't have to go very far and I would rather him be safe on the highway and in the mountains. It is pouring down rain here right now. My dogs do not like having to go outside in the rain. They were most anxious to get back inside. I hope you all have a great weekend, I may not post again until Monday afternoon.

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 04:26 PM

I know that my boss did do a major change in the way she eats, because she used to eat everything fried, etc. but it seems like you would be able to see a 30 pound change?

Paula, have a good weekend at work. And be careful in the rain! I have to admit I sure do miss NC. :)

Kathy, your dinner sounds so good. I'm not sure what we'll be having, but I did buy some hamburger today. I think I'll call DH and see what he wants. Like that ever works! ;)

aghiowa 06-02-2006 04:29 PM

How big is your boss, Melissa? If she's quite large, maybe you couldn't see 30 pounds? Or maybe she weighed fully clothed and with a full stomach before, and not this time? Who knows. I say, clap for her in public, and wonder in private.

I've wasted my entire afternoon on the computer. Ha ha ha!

Angela

Froufy 06-02-2006 04:38 PM

30 lbs is an awful lot in that amount of time - I too would presume it was noticeable unless she was very large to begin with? In any case good for her for at least trying and making some changes!

AFTERNOON HAIR REPORT (yes I know you have all been waiting with bated breath :D): so I went out for a walk at lunch - specifically to go to this newstand which has international papers and magazines so I could get the Toronto Star (supposedly w/ds' picture in it). I knew it would warm up today - but it was downright HOT AND STICKY - I was roasting the moment I stepped outside. So how does my hair look you might ask? Like CRAP!

It's all curly and frizzy and flat looking - now I am not sure if it is entirely the fault of the new product? But really now I think in the past (with other products) I probably had some curls due to humidity - but not as noticeable or as bad as today! I can't stand it and will not have time to do anything with my hair when I get home - as I have like 15 mins to change and be ready to go! (ya right!). I don't even want to use this product again - but I guess I will? (maybe on sunday when I have no where special to go!).

Picked up some hummus and couscous salad on way back to the office - and did I forget to mention that the NEWSPAPER STORE had a sign on their door when I got there - STORE CLOSED AS OF JUNE 1ST!!! Can you believe this? (ya so my hair got all yucky for nothing!). Ds did call from downtown (got himself a $250 suit!) and I told him to try and find the paper there!

Time to head out and fight some traffic. I am looking forward to dinner out - guess at this point it doesn't matter if we sit out on the patio or not? (can my hair get any worse?) ha ha ha

MAGGIELINA 06-02-2006 04:54 PM

Hello and greetings from sunny (and very warm) Acapulco!!! Sometimes it takes me a while to read the messages and post replies, but I hope this will help with the cats in the vegetable garden: I plant garlic, garlic chives and even "decorative" (at least that's the name they use in Mexico) garlic plants around the vegetable garden and it has helped a lot, specially with rabbits, squirrels and gophers... I'm not sure about the ctas though, as I have 8 little and very mischievious dogs, and they might have something to do with keeping the cats away....:p

I'll have to go to the supermarket real soon: both my sister and my father are doing some other diet and I have to buy core food.... I was very well behaved in the way to Acapulco, by the way: no junk food on the way, just some fruit salad:carrot:

My father is calling me, so I'll post later...

Maggie

sauniemay 06-02-2006 05:00 PM

Frouf, what would we do withouth your humour? Do you ever try to work with your curls? There are so many products for that, and then you don't have to worry about the humidity? Hey, with global warming, that might be the answer!:) :) :D

Vickie 06-02-2006 08:05 PM

Angela, I cannot believe that you didn't have a donut but CONGRATULATIONS! I, too, might have felt entitled since it was my birthday.

Kath, did you get started on the quilt? What a great idea for matching pieces. It's good of you to help Judd. It's hard to hang on to those precious losses.

Saundra, you avocado salad sounds just delish. I wish it didn't sound like a lot of work just for me. Jim won't eat avocado or shrimp unless it's fried. The furniture won't even be inspected until June 15th. If they can't make it work properly, then we'll get to select a new style sofa and loveseat.

Melissa, we have Farmer's Markets all around here just about any day of the week. My town's is on Friday and the neighboring town is Saturday. Maybe we should go tomorrow. I'm sure it's too late for your dinner but I make a fabulous (if I don't say so myself) meat sauce with a pound of ground sirloin that just requires an onion and about 4 or 5 cans of different kinds of tomatoes. It's really yummy over ww rotini, makes multiple meals, and freezes. Or you could make the polenta pie. That freezes too and could be lunches for both of you.

Frouf, I hope you were able to make some quick repairs to your hair and that you are already enjoying a lovely dinner as we speak. We look forward to your review in the morning.

Maggie, congratulations for doing so well while in sunny Acapulco! What kind of dogs do you have? I have a Scottish Terrier dog and a Scottish Fold cat.

We've finished dinner and I'm very satisfied and closer to full. I'm still trying to master that part of the Core program. It's especially had for me when it's a Core food that I like alot. Tonight it was the corn cakes. They were deelish!

I'm off to watch the Chicago White Sox play Kathy's Texas Rangers. I'll be back in the morning.

Paula, we'll see you when you get back from your shifts!

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 10:47 PM

BIG NEWS: DH has decided to do core with me!!! :cp: I promised him that he wouldn't have to count points, so he won't be counting his extra 35 wpas, but I'll sort of keep track of what we should eat out, etc so he doesn't have to think about it. But once he gets the hang of it he will do great. When we did south beach he was better than me about keeping up with the "rules."
Just wanted to share!!
Oh, and we're going to the church gym tomorrow to work out. Ya-hoo!! :D

Katpo 06-02-2006 10:52 PM

Rangers and Sox are tied in the 7th -- I just stopped in to see if anyone was here. Miami just won their Eastern Conference game so they're going to the finals. Now tomorrow night is going to be more of a nail biter! If Dallas can win it, we'll play Miami and that scares the pants off me. I don't think we have anybody to match up with Shaq. I guess we'll see though ...

Our dinner was really good. Judd didn't get home until around 9:00 and I just decided around 8:45 that I was giving up on him. I started cooking the fish and squash and he walked in just in time, so at least it was nice and fresh (and hot) for him. The fish was great but next time I don't think I'll put any cornmeal on it; I'll just sear it in the olive oil. Flounder is such a mild fish and I think I could eat it every day. Yummmm. The pinto beans were also good and fortunately there's lots of leftovers so we can have them for the next day or so. I'll make the corn cakes when I reheat them. I decided not to make them tonight.

I guess I'll get back to the game and see you all in the morning. We'll hopefully get lots of errands done that have been put off. I think when we go to Pottery Barn I'll see if I can find Kate a surprise for her apartment. Poor thing has been a little depressed lately so maybe that'll cheer her up. She feels better physically but still dislikes her job. I think she'll be alright though.

Katpo 06-02-2006 10:55 PM

Melissa, good for him! I'm sure he'll do just fine! I told Judd today that I was "putting him on it" and he said ha! When I said he would have to have oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, he said no, he'd continue to have his SF shakes. Well, excuuuuse me! I'll have to see if I can make it work for him but probably it won't. He still wants his shakes and PB sandwich at lunch, and that would be more than the 35 WPAs. He would probably do okay at Flex but would expect me to keep up with his points and I ain't gonna do it!

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 10:56 PM

Kathy, I will have to try flounder. DH thinks salmon is the only fish he likes, because it's not fishy.

I'm looking through all of my core recipes and feeling overwhelmed! It's like I'm starting all over again!! It's exciting though.

OK, I'm a meal-freezing virgin. Do I completely cook the meals and then freeze them? Or mix all the ingredients, freeze, then cook them? Or does it depend on the recipe? Sorry for the silly questions.

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 10:59 PM

Yeah. I am assuming that DH won't follow the "rules" exactly, but at least when we're eating together he will know what we're trying to accomplish and I'll be able to have a little more control over our eating situation. I expect him to "cheat" but I know it will still help him out a lot, especially if we make a commitment to exercising together.

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:01 PM

Hey Kathy (wonder shopper) do you have any suggestions where I can look on-line for a cute goal dress? I haven't found anything I like (reasonably priced that is!) yet.

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:03 PM

It really does depend on the recipe. Things like meatloaf and meatballs should be cooked first. Also casseroles with cheese should be cooked first for better quality later, IMO. Actually, I can't think of anything you'd assemble and cook later.

If you have room in your freezer, you should start saving vegetables. I used to do this when I cooked for everyone. I had a big ziploc freezer bag and would put every little bit of leftover vegetables in it, even if it was 14 kernels of corn or 3 green beans. I just kept adding and adding, and when it was full I made soup.

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:05 PM

A goal dress ... hmmmm. I usually buy dresses at Steinmart (do you have those there?) but they don't sell online, I don't think. I really like Chadwicks too, and they have very cute dresses. Yes, I think Chadwicks is my answer.

This is my favorite. I used to have 4-5 of these in all different patterns and colors:

http://www.chadwicks.com/product.asp...roducttypeid=1

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:05 PM

That's a great tip. I have heard that before but forgot about it. Thanks.

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:06 PM

I went to chadwick's and didn't really find what I was looking for. :^:

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:07 PM

Well, shoot. Okay, I'll keep thinking.

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:11 PM

I like that dress too but I'm looking for something a little different. I'm trying to find a pic of something similar to show you. You didn't happen to see "What Not to Wear" tonight did you? (the worst dressed family one) I loved her dress, it's exactly what I've got in mind, but can't find one like it anywhere! Of course I'm sure I couldn't afford the one she had on.

Oh and I so want to see this "Lake House" movie!

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:14 PM

Hey Chicks! We are still watching the game and it's still tied.

Melissa, I always loved JC Penney and they have a huge sale going on right now. What about them?

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:14 PM

What's the dress for? The reunion?

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:19 PM

OK, here's something like I'm thinking about, but this one's a little pricey, plus I'm not sure about that pattern. Like you are this interested!

http://www.dillards.com/images/product/wed044_fi.jpg

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:20 PM

Hey Vickie! Yes I buy most of my stuff at JCPenney, but most of their dresses are sleeveless, which I'm very paranoid about. And yes, I'm thinking that if we go to the reunion I will need a nice dress to wear. I don't really wear dresses anymore!

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:21 PM

Check out this one. http://tinyurl.com/mbfge

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:22 PM

They have alot of the shape dress you posted online. I'm trying to see if I have a good online coupon to use.

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:25 PM

Oh I really like that Vickie. I'm not sure how I feel about the "rosette", but I really like the shape and style. Thanks! I overlooked that one.

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:25 PM

I just got an online JC Penney code card today. It's for 40% off any regular item. The code is SUPER and you enter it during checkout as a promotion code. For example, it took the dress down from $59.99 to $35.99.

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:26 PM

The coupon is only good until June 12th.

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:27 PM

I like the rosette. I think it draws attention away from your bust and hips. I guess it depends where your weight is. I think this dress would give a girl a waist if she doesn't have one. Like me! I'm just a lump.

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:27 PM

Oooh, I like that one!! Melissa, I've probably seen every episode of What Not To Wear (of course, to look at me sometimes you'd never know it!) but I didn't see it tonight. I'd love someone to swoop me off the street and give me $5000 to spend on clothes.

There's a lady at work who's going to start doing Core and so today she was asking me all sorts of questions. She has a lot of dietary restrictions anyway because she had a kidney transplant a few years ago and is on lots of anti-rejection medications. We think she'll be able to do this though. I was telling her what sorts of things I ate and when I got to the part about making the polenta cakes, I had this wonderful idea! Probably so wonderful that everyone has already thought of it! How would it be to make them in the bottom of a muffin pan so that you're making little circles, then spread with FF refried beans and top with FF cheese and broil them a little? It would sorta be like nachos and you could even put diced tomatoes and lettuce on top, or salsa, or FF sour cream, or more cheese. I got a little giddy just thinking about it!

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:28 PM

I like the rosette personally ... agree that it gives something to focus on. I think I'll go look at dresses too.

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:28 PM

You are not a lump! Thanks for sharing your coupon code! You're so sweet. I don't think I have the guts or the $ to buy it by the 12th though. But that is such a great deal, it's tempting!! Maybe if I actually bought a dress I would be more motivated...:?:

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:30 PM

OH Kathy that sounds awesome!!! Now I just have to perfect the polenta. I made it once and it turned out so-so.
I do really like that dress. I hate not to try things on though! (Look at me coming up with excuses :) )

The more I look at it the more I like it. And I like those sexy wedges too!

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:30 PM

You could probably remove the rosette and put a pin there instead.

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:32 PM

Melissa, did you see this one? It's sorta like the shape you posted but a different pattern.

CLICK

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:33 PM

You can return it to the store if you don't like it. You just lose your shipping cost. If you like it, but need a different size, then you reorder and tell them you need a different size and they don't charge you shipping the second time they send it out with the correct size. Does that make sense? It would be hard to find a nice dress for $36 but why don't you wait and shop around some more. You can always order on the 12th. That's almost 2 weeks away.

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:34 PM

I liked that one too, Kathy. I was afraid she wouldn't like the sleeve. I think it's ultra feminine.

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:36 PM

Rangers win! We are pitching so badly the last week or so. Bummer.
