Vickie 06-02-2006 11:38 PM

Kathy, what you described is much like the polenta pie recipe that I make from our board. I just make mine in a pie pan and then cut it into pie like wedges for meals. I've frozen it and vacuumed sealed it and used it for lunches. It's time to make another one. You could use my recipe to get yourself started. It's made with cornmeal.

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:39 PM

 I was hitting "reload" on my computer and didn't realize that you all were chatting away on page 6 while I was on page 5. I'm such a doof.

Anyway, Kathy I like that one except I'm not too fond of the buttons down the front. Other than that I like it a lot.

Vickie, you have a really good point and I didn't know that about the shipping either. Thanks. I order a lot of pants from JCP because they don't carry many "talls" in store and I love their pants so I just order them online instead. I appreciate you sharing your coupon code. I might just use it, because that is a GREAT deal. Thanks so much you all!!!

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:39 PM

Rangers have been doing well lately -- but that's nothing new. They usually start out okay and then fall apart in the last half of the season. I guess it remains to be seen, as they say.

Judd just hollered at me that Son-In-Law was on. He knows I like that movie. Guess I'll watch it for a little while.

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:40 PM

Yes, so I guess these would be like little mini mexican pies, huh? For some reason it's sounding good right now.

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:42 PM

Yum...I'm going to get the stuff on Sunday to make them. I've got a taste for them. Plus, I've been really stumped for lunches lately and that would help alot.

p.a. 06-02-2006 11:45 PM

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:46 PM

I am definitely going to try that too! Is that your tamale pie you are talking about Vickie?

THANK YOU GALS for all of your help tonight! DH even said that he likes that dress. Thanks!! I'm going to bed. Tomorrow is a brand new core day! Good night!

septembersgoal 06-02-2006 11:47 PM

Thanks Patti!! That helps a lot.

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:48 PM

Is it this one?

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...9&postcount=40

I'm going to use refried beans and no meat though. Now the more I think about it, I don't think that's it.

Katpo 06-02-2006 11:57 PM

Nevermind! I found it!

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/show...&postcount=140

For anyone who's reading this and doesn't want to go searching.

Vickie 06-02-2006 11:59 PM

It's the second one you found, the Tamale Pie.

Vickie 06-03-2006 12:00 AM

Melissa, I cook all my stuff before I freeze it. Then it just has to be rewarmed. If it's spaghetti sauce, I usually make fresh pasta to go with it since I decided that I'm not crazy about how pasta freezes.

Vickie 06-03-2006 07:57 AM

Good Morning Chicks! Do I win a prize for last post last night and first post this morning?

I'm up kinda early today but it was just by accident. I have a big day ahead of me since today is the graduation party. I'm not sure what I'm wearing yet but it's not a worry since it's very casual. It's at my GF's house in her yard. She said jeans/shorts and sandals. I'm sure I can find something cute to wear. Maybe while I'm looking for today's outfit, I better find one for the shower for tomorrow.

I hope you all have a great Core day. I'm scared about my eating for today and tomorrow since I will have NO control except to go hungry and not put the stuff in my mouth. Normally, I bring food with me to friends house's but today I can't do that. I think I'll make sure that I eat a big lunch today and tomorrow before I go to the parties.

septembersgoal 06-03-2006 08:54 AM

Vickie, good luck with your party-eating today! I hope that you can find a balance between not starving and not overeating non-core foods. That can be difficult!
Thanks for the info about freezing stuff. I'm still learning. :)

sauniemay 06-03-2006 09:07 AM

Holy Crow,

I feel like I just went dress shopping and cooking school in the last five minutes. That was fun.:) You girls were really busy last night! Melissa, I like that dress, and Vickie, the pie sounds great. Btw, I always freeze first, except for pasta.

The meeting was okay. However, they measured me and put me to 5'6". I sure don't know where the inch went. I had a bone density a few years ago, and I was 5'7". Oh well, I weighed in at 138.5(evening weight), so I'm still fine, I just don't like the idea of shrinking!

It's going to rain today and tomorrow, so I better not plan for outdoor cooking. I think I'll make chicken today and we're going out tomorrow.

Better go have something to eat, bbl,

Vickie 06-03-2006 09:13 AM

It WAS fun, Saundra! Melissa kept thinking we wouldn't be interested and Kathy and I were having a ball with it.

So, are you saying that you freeze the uncooked ingredients? It NEVER occurred to me. Maybe I should try this. Do you think it works better? Inquiring minds want to know!

sauniemay 06-03-2006 09:16 AM

Sorry, I didn't mean that. OOPS, I cook first then freeze. Glad you caught that Vickie.:D

septembersgoal 06-03-2006 09:19 AM

Well Vickie I'm glad that you all had fun! I didn't want to bore you. I could have kept shopping but I was too tired. :)

F6r s60e reas6n 0y 2eys are a33 0essed 4*!!! th5n2 need t6 sh4t d6wn the c60*4ter....

Vickie 06-03-2006 09:26 AM

Did you just fall asleep on your keyboard?

Mattandgabbysmom 06-03-2006 09:44 AM

Lol, I was just thinking the same thing Vickie.

Melissa the dresses are very pretty.

Katpo 06-03-2006 11:16 AM

What the heck? Does someone need to go check on Melissa? Maybe she's been kidnapped and was trying to communicate in code!

I slept a little late today so I have to hurry up with my breakfast or the eating schedule will be thrown off for the day. I was 145 today; getting a little tired of this up and down thing! I sent myself an big ol' mean email with the title of "GROW UP" and within the body of the email is says DO NOT DELETE THIS! I'm having to get tough. I think my daily coke (caffeine) is dehydrating, and I'm not taking in enough water the rest of the day -- have only been getting maybe 2 bottles instead of the 4-5 I shoot for -- so it's no wonder I'm a bit stalled. I have to w/i Wednesday without fail since I've missed the last two weeks due to not being ready the first week and not being there this past week.

Vickie, have a great day at the party(ies)! I hope you find suitable food there or can eat and fill up before you go. Your situation is a little trickier than mine since you have w/i on Monday and I at least get to wait a few days.

Saundra, you're doing so well. I hope you aren't shrinking but since you're slimmer now than you were when you measured 5'7", it's still very proportionate. Enjoy your rain. All the rain that was forecast for us last week didn't appear. Not a drop! And so now they say that was our only chance for a very long time and the heat is going to start creeping back up.

Time to get crackin'! I hope everybody has a great day.

Katpo 06-03-2006 11:18 AM

Aha! I think it says For some reason my keys are obsessed (or maybe possessed). Think I need to shut down the computer...

Or something like that.

Mattandgabbysmom 06-03-2006 11:26 AM

That was good Kathy, maybe you could crack the Davinci Code :D

Froufy 06-03-2006 11:39 AM

Virtual dress shopping with the girls - what will we think of next? ha ha ha Can't wait to see the final pick Melissa!

And I agree - please slow down when I'm not here - jeez gone for less than 24 hours and I had two pages of fashions and recipes to read thru! :D

Saundra - you shrinking violet - it's a ploy - I think all ww scales and height measures are the work of the devil! ha ha ha I like to round up! (so my 5 2 1/2 becomes 5'3)

Had lots of fun last night despite the kinky hair - found some blowstyling mist under bathroom vanity (where all forlorn and rejected products end up) so I used it to wet my hair a bit and got the dryer out - ya so it looked good for about 10 seconds or so? Oh well.

Went to dinner at the restaurant inside the national arts centre - only one teeny tiny problem - neither of us thought to make a RESERVATION - oopsy.
And of course everyone is there around 6 or 6:15 pm for the 8 pm show. So my gf says of course 'you do all the talking". A frouf can be very innocent and convincing when required.

Table for 2 I say and smile sweetly - do you have a reservation? they ask! Of course I say (okay a little white lie?). Under what name? I'm not sure I reply? My husband made it a few days ago? When was that they ask? Monday or Tuesday I think? (looking very puzzled). A bit of whispering now between the two at the reservations desk!

Would you like to sit on the patio or inside! (my gf at this point is trying not to burst out laughing). Inside please - and off we are led to a lovely inside table for 2! yes we are very pleased with ourselves!

Dinner was excellent - first came the whole grain rolls - we both had the "chicago' dinner special - choice of salad or soup (we had the salad - w/some sort of apple cide vinaigrette - delish) then the beef tenderloin w/mashed pototoes and veggies - I also had a glass of red wine. Food was very good - gf wanted to share a dessert - the grand marnier chocolate dome (need I say more?). The show was very very good - lots of strong singers and funny too!

Went to bed too late - but worse was dh who woke me up with his hair drying at 7:30 am!!! Not good for a saturday morning (he was getting ready to go to the diefenbunker). I did doze on and off a bit but now catching up on laundry and have not been to the kitchen yet which I'm sure is a disaster area.

Just me and ds on our own most of the day so we may try and see some of the "open doors' places, but honestly the left side of my neck is still hurting when I turn it (slept funny?) and have a slight headache. Will take a couple of advil and see if this helps? It is also a rainly gloomy day out there so I really don't feel like going out? We'll see!

Frouf

Mattandgabbysmom 06-03-2006 11:46 AM

Froufy glad you had a good time with gf, dinner sounds delicious. I have seen a few Broadway shows my favorite so far is Phantom Of The Opera.

sauniemay 06-03-2006 12:00 PM

Niki, I saw Phantom and Les Mis 3 times. I love going to the theatre. When I was a kid, my gf and I used to usher at the theatres in Detroit. We saw Ethel Merman in Gypsy and Sir Laurence Olivier in Becket.

Frouf, glad you had a good time. We've done the same thing at restaurants, aren't we nasty?:D

I just spoke to dil in Kitchener and they are having yet another open house. Oh, I wish they would just sell the place, I'm crossing my fingers. Kids here are bringing Natan over and they are going to Montreal for the day. I told them to have dinner out, so they'll pick him up around 8:00. I took out chicken, but Bernie just called and requested burgers, so I'll do both and freeze the leftovers.

Okay, better get dressed for my boy.

Mattandgabbysmom 06-03-2006 12:21 PM

Saundra, I usually go with my mom but since I moved a hour away from her it is real hard to go since having children. I have seen Miss Saigon, Grease,Phantom of the Opera,The sound Of Music, Lea Miserables, Cats,Beauty & the beast and there is a couple more but my mind went blank :o

Vickie 06-03-2006 12:43 PM

Frouf, you sound SO much better! I'm glad you went last night. I think little white lies like that are just fine. The dinner sounds wonderful. I'm really hungry right now and I'm waiting for Jim to come home with our lunch.

Niki, you are the luckiest being able to see plays on Broadway. Chicago is not to shabby though. I've seen Les Mis, Showboat, Phantom of the Opera, Grease, Damn Yankees with Jerry Lewis who was fabulous, and most recently Wicked. I loved Damn Yankees but Wicked is by far my favorite. Jim gave me tickets for my birthday to go back and see it again. I'm looking forward to September 2nd.

Saundra, my fingers are crossed for a successful open house for your DS/DIL. I watch Sell This House. Is it a tough market? Are the RE Agents telling them what people are saying. Seems like something is going on. Maybe change a pink bedroom to beige or something easy like that? Anyway, two mortgages would not be fun so I'll hope for the best. Have fun with Natan!

Kathy, you are so tough on yourself. But, I'm sure that's why you are so successful on maintenance. I'm creeping back up and I need to stop. I never considered sending myself and email though!

Ok, Jim is home with lunch. I'm going to eat and then get on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I've decided to do 30 minutes instead of 40 but at a faster speed. On to the Fourth of July goal!

RoseB 06-03-2006 12:45 PM

Hi all: Another day and is it raining and we have got a leak in the roof. It can not be fixed until the Fall, as they are all so busy.

Melisa the girls have sure been trying to help you find your perfect dress. Let us know what you decide on. You have many different stores in the U.S. then we do. I used to love to shop in the U.S. as the sizes are smaller then in Canada. lol

Have you Canadian girls heard of "The Briar's" in Sutton. dh is taking me there in Aug. for a couple of days. It is a lodge, I have never been there. Our friends are going and it sounded interesting. The package also includes live theatre and meals. It sound like it should be fun.

The news here has not been good. They have picked up terrorist in our GTA area. It has been on the news all morning. They had planned to destroy different buildings across southern Ontario.

Froufie, did you get the paper. I did and I can not figure out what I was to look for.

Hope Sandra is having a good time, she is such a fun person. I have known each other as cyber friends for quite a while.

As I said before excuse me if I don't address you all, I find it hard to keep up. I do read and get some good smiles out of some of your posts.
Blue skies,
Rose

Mattandgabbysmom 06-03-2006 01:00 PM

Rose isn't it terrible we have to live with the fear of terrorism. My mom was evacuated from the subways two weeks ago because of a bomb threat thank goodness nothing happened. It makes me frightened to think about the world my children are growing up in.

Mattandgabbysmom 06-03-2006 01:03 PM

Vickie did you see Last Comic standing, they had auditions in NY & Chicago.
OOH I would love to see Wicked, who is in that?

sauniemay 06-03-2006 01:04 PM

Rose, I caught the news last night, but haven't heard or watched anything today. What is our world coming to?:(

We went to the Briars a few years ago. It was lovely, and we also saw a play. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.

Vickie, I asked the kids the same thing about the feedback that they are getting on their place. It's in an area which has mostly retired couples, so it's a limited market and not a big city like Toronto. They just need the right fit, because it's really lovely and decorated to the nines. Another thing is there are three floors, which doesn't work for all "older" folks.

Kids called and are taking Natan with them, but requested my assistance tomorrow. Of course, I said "yes".

p.a. 06-03-2006 01:27 PM

Hey gang,
Ive been out in the yard all morning..I came in to cool off and have a bite to eat..whew I was hot. Going to head to the hardware store this afternoon to buy some new paint for my front door. I want to surprise dh with it all painted by the time he comes home tomorrow night. (and its easier with only oneof us picking the color...ahahaha )
Fouf,,,haha your too funny!!!!!!!!! My face would have been so red you would have known in a minute I was lying.
Rose..terrorists?? hmm guess Il have to watch thenews more closely.
Saundra i have two floors and theres times I wish it was all on one level...heres hoping it goes soon.
Vickie have fun today.....find the veggie tray! theres always a veggie tray

I watched Crash my kitchen last night and there was a little boy who wouldnt eat veggies..so they reinvented new recipes to get him to eat. One of the recipes was a quesadilla made with very thin sliced potatoes instead of tortillas...potatoes are core! They used a very tiny amount of olive oil, thinly sliced potatoes in a circular pattern on the bottom. Then added some low fat cheese (could use ff) , added red peppers and turkey slices. Another topping of sliced potatoes. Heated them up on a stove top..flipped over and heated the other side. Finished them in the oven to melt the cheese. As a side topping they blitzed roasted red peppers in a blender... and sour cream with chopped mint in another dish. It was the kids favourite dish! Im trying it soon...
have a great weekend everyne

sauniemay 06-03-2006 01:31 PM

Patti, you're lucky to be able to be in the garden today. It's miserable and very wet here.:)

Vickie 06-03-2006 04:15 PM

It's bright and sunny and 76 degrees here, Saundra. A great day for a party in the yard.

Patti, that sounds like a good recipe. Would you perfect it for us?! I have a 3 step ranch house. I bought it for my old age. A small bedroom, the living room, dining room, family room, kitchen, laundry room and 3/4 bath are all on the first floor. Three bedrooms and 2 full baths are up 3 stairs. I LOVE my floor plan.

Niki, I didn't see Last Comic Standing. I'll look to see who was in Wicked tomorrow and let you know.

Rose, I heard about the terroists! I hope all our Canadian friends remain safe.

I'm off to the party now. I'll be back in the morning.

septembersgoal 06-03-2006 05:49 PM

 I haven't caught up but yes Kathy, you were right!! Great interpretation! My keys just got all crazy all of a sudden and I had to shut down the computer. Then we left and I forgot to come back and interpret for you all! Sorry about that!

I hope that you are all having wonderful Saturdays. We were very productive this morning; went to the Farmer's Market and then to the grocery store, then came home, ate a big lunch and got lazy. We are going to a concert tonight ( http://www.davidwilcox.com/index.php?page=home ), so I need to get ready!

sauniemay 06-03-2006 05:50 PM

Okay, so it's raining and very cool here and the forecast is predicting the same for the upcoming week. I'm not liking this, we have plans!

I marinated chicken thighs in Farm Boy's lemon garlic dressing and they are in the oven with the potatoes. Good smells happening.

Katpo 06-03-2006 06:31 PM

We're back from errands and had a great time! Before we left I went to the store where they're having a big sale on drinks, and stocked up on Gatorade for Judd (10/$10), and a lot of Vitamin Water and Fuze for myself. They were also on the 10/$10 sale. I also got some FF cottage cheese and canned fruit so I can start having it for a snack. My regular store doesn't have any FF cottage cheese except for their brand (Walmart) and I don't like it as well as I do the name brands.

So then we went to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants where I had about the equivalent of maybe 1/2 of a child's plate and a small margarita. I only had a few chips and salsa so that was good. Then went to Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma. We decided on the glasses at C&B so went back to get them, plus some clear glass cereal bowls that will go with anything. We're probably changing out the everyday dishes from the cafe white to yellow Fiestaware but haven't completely decided. Meanwhile if we get clear glass extra pieces, they'll go with everything.

And then on to Nordstroms, where he exchanged three LS SmartCare shirts for three SS ones and got some socks. Exciting, huh? Then home! I just washed the glasses and bowls and put them in the cabinet, then boxed up our not-so-old-and-still-very-very-good other glasses, both tall and short, into the C&B box so that I can either give them to Kate or save them for Erin.

Now I'm going back to the store to get turkey and wheat buns so I can cook dinner later. I have ground turkey in the freezer but am in no mood to thaw it, plus we need buns and green onions for the burgers anyway. I'll heat up the LO pinto beans and make some corn cakes for myself and leave off the bun.

It sounds like everybody is having a good day! Enjoy your evenings and wish my Dallas Mavericks good luck tonight!

Katpo 06-03-2006 06:31 PM

Oh and Saundra, you are welcome to come box up some of my 90-100 degree sunny weather. I'd welcome rain any day over this.

Mattandgabbysmom 06-03-2006 07:13 PM

This is a really cool website, it is a live cam that is filming a Eagles nest with baby Eagles, I believe it is in British Columbia. It takes a few seconds to load.
