Question about the core plan:
Hello, I'm a visitor here....I have a question about the core plan. Right now I'm trying to be very strict, and I'm going by the core plan but also counting out my alloted points. I know there are some restrictions, like fatty meats, or whole wheat grains like pasta are only allowed for one meal a day...what about breads though? WHole wheat breads, are these included with the other whole grain pastas?

Hello all! Feeling a bit better than I was yesterday. What a difference a little shopping does. I was telling a friend that it's bizarre how spending money psyched me up more than any drug could!

Vickie, thank you so much for your words. I will not give up. I have way too much support from y'all to even think about it! I am taking your advice and am going to begin to set up a game plan for next month. Counting the days, looks like TOM is the week before or the week of Thanksgiving, it has had a mind of it's own (21 days or 28 days). I definitely know that I crave sandwiches so I will get the pantry set w/whole wheat bread, 2% cheese slices and I believe that someone mentioned that Boar's Head Buffalo Chicken and another flavor of Chicken were CORE in the deli. A sandwich like that or even a veggie sandwich w/the cheese is better than hitting the Sonic. (BTW, Cateyes almost went to Whataburger instead of Sonic. I know the feeling.)

The last non-CORE meal was Sunday afternoon. I don't weigh-in until Thursday night. So, I have a little time. Guzzling the water and eating CORE. We shall see!

MissMeliss, bread is not core and must be counted in the WPAs. When I want bread, I use Sara Lee Delightful wheat, which is 2 slices for 1 pt.

Tori I bet that lady was just trying to find a way to connect with you. As for your reaction, you sound like you are confident enough in yourself to know that you are much more than a belly. You are a smart, kind woman who is taking control of her own health. I think you are awesome! You know, at 180 I think I look pretty darn fine. Yes I'm fatter than the women in the magazines, but I look good. We don't have to reserve feeling good about ourselves til we are skinny!

Thank you Robin for the kind words!! My twin sister called me tonight and wants us to do something either Friday night or Saturday for our birthday. She said maybe out to eat, or to the movies then go have a few drinks.... So I am definately thinking of using my no weigh in pass this week. It will have been 15 years since we have celebrated a birthday together! I have been wanting us to be able to do something for years now, but well..... it is complicated. I will just say her boyfriend is a little bit on the needy dominating side for lack of better words, and we do not get to see her that much. But anyway, I am SOO excited! My sister by the way has never struggled with weight a day in her life... If we just go out to eat I can try to watch what I eat, and attempt to stay on plan, but if she wants to get some drinks, then I know I will have a weight gain. But it would be so worth it! I will just have to get right back on plan and get it right back off! Dinner with my hubby fell through, but looks like I will be having it with my sister instead. I can't WAIT!

Hey there,

Vicki and novabubble thanks for the warm welcome! And cateyes have fun with your sister......

A little bit more about me.....hummmmm.........I need to loose about 40-50 pounds. The summer was a recovery period for me after back surgery but I am back (haha). I walk about 5 miles a day. I park my car the furthest I can where ever I go. I also have an elliptical machine but the weather is not that bad yet so I enjoy the outdoors as long as I can in southern Ontario!! Sometimes I do a 30 minute walk before work and then after too. I joined a Walk Challenge and keep track of all my steps! I am on my 6th week. And I have increased my steps by 138%......that is a major accomplishment for me and I feel so much better for it! Walking is the easiet exercise to do, so natural, but remember to stretch as you go along to avoid cramps later. I have also increased the speed of my walk and it has gone from a 45 minute walk to a 30 minute walk.....same route......

My menu varies from day to day.......reduces boredom!

B oatmeal or fibre 1 cereal with milk
s some kind of fruit or applesauce
l ff cottage cheese, fruit and munchie veggies
s ww bar or more fruit or a ff yogurt
s could be anything legal depends on who is cooking. tonight it was eggs, yesterday it was veggie soup, the night before it was pork roast with veggies

I am a bread lover so I use 1 point for 2 slices of ww bread every other day. on the odd day I have potatoe.......old school, I try not to have the potatoe and bread on the same day......not sure if it makes a difference or not. I am getting used to drinking milk, but hopefully the yogurt and cottage cheese are enough. I don't always have a ww bar. But almost always have popcorn on hand!! Smart Pop by Orville is yummy......(and no extra points). I love making applesauce but in a pinch I will buy the little single serving size cups of the non-sweetened. I just made my lunch for tomorrow, salad, fresh pineapple, kiwi and yep, a ziploc of popcorn to snack on. I have my drawer at work with legal core food, tuna, applesauce, broth and sugar free gum.....

I crave at that time of the month (TOM--man oh man I am slow.....just figured that one out!!) I work with acronyms all day so you won't find me using many here! Anyway, as I got off track. I crave salt but only for a couple of days then I am ok. On those days I drink 2 extra waters with lemon. And I love chocolate! Don't we all........(the WW bars really help here!!)

WOW.....I really did not plan on being so winded. See you all tomorrow night!

Cheers,
Frannie57

Torrey, lucky for you on the timing of your next TOM. Mine will be right through Thanksgiving! Look out! You sound very back in control. Good going.

Frannie, thanks for the tip on water with lemon after salt abuse. Do you think it really helps? It seems like you are eating great and your exercise is incredible! I love to make homemade chunky applesauce too. I've been eating it since I was a kid. I have been trying to get in more fruit. I eat about 1/2 cup of homemade applesauce in my oatmeal everyday. I cook the oatmeal until it is nearly done, then I throw in the applesauce and finish cooking it. Because I put splenda and cinnamon in the applesauce, I'm left with a wonderful apple, cinnamon oatmeal that is all core and healthy. Yum!

Are the WW bars really great? Is there one that is fabulous? I haven't had any chocolate since 9/9. I'm wondering if I should get those bars or just have a little real chocolate.

Good morning, y'all!!! After my eating over the weekend, weighing in a day early and on top of TOM, I lost 1 lb.!!!! This has given me pause, b/c I felt out of control this weekend AND for the second month, I have not experienced the '5lb. weight gain'. I'm still losing. I found it also interesting that after pulling out my membership book from '97 on the points plan, I have lost the exact same poundage and am at the same weight at the six weeks point. It was interesting to me. I was a little bummed b/c I wanted to be at the 10lb. loss mark this week, but I will take the loss.

I hope everyone is doing well! Thanks again for being here!

Torrey

Hey everyone. It's been awhile since participating on this thread, I've been so busy and it's not going to stop anytime soon! I've been a little under the weather so I haven't given it my all regarding working out. Last Saturday I weighed in and to my surprise since I was at TOM and went a bit off Core on Friday night but I still lost 1.8!!! Can I ever get a full 2????!!! Oh well. It's better than zero or no gain.

Hey - has anyone watched The Biggest Looser on NBC on Tues nights? I can't believe those people worked out for 5+ HARD hours 6 days a week and some lost ZERO or 3lbs or even gained!! EEK!! How devestating would that be?!?

I have pretty much put myself into a daily routine (except on the weekends) I get up at 6am, go to the gym from 6:20-7:30, make breakfast which consists of Egg beaters and Canadian Bacon w/ Skim Milk or an egg on 1/2 a whole wheat Thomas' English Muffin w/ canadian bacon and FF cheese on top. I have my snack every day at 11am which is FF Vanilla Yogurt w/ bananas and 1/3 cup of granola. Lunch I have a salad or cottage cheese w/ tomatoes and FF French dressing. Sometimes I'll do Ham rolls w/ mustard and FF cheese. Dinner all depends if I have time..I normally make a casserole or something on Sunday's and eat it during the week or make a pita pizza and use the 3pts for the pita. I like to make chicken fingers too (W/o breading) and toss in Franks Hot Sauce and dip in FF ranch. I have a huge WW Word Doc w/ a bunch of receipes and I'm trying to make one a week. If there's non-core food on the recipe I try to modify it. My favorite is eggplant casserole!!!

Well - I'm done spewing at the mouth here..hope everyone is doing ok!!!

Going to visit my husband at Andrews Air Force Base this weekend so I'm going to skip weighing in until I come back. Last time I saw him I actually lost 2 lbs!!

C-YA!

If the recipe that I'm making requires me to saute, then I put the oil in the pan. If I don't have to saute, then I put it in the couscous, or rice when I cook it in place of margarine or butter.

Hi Ladies,

I would be interested in the eggplant casserole recipe.

I finally joined WW again yesterday and today is my first day of staying faithfully on the CORE program. I am going to give it my best shot. It's encouraging to read all the posts which prove the CORE program does work. I am anticipating making some potato soup tomorrow. I was just going to saute onions, celery, zuccini and then I would add this to the cooked potatoes. I even though of adding some whole kernal corn to it as well. One of the ladies at the meeting yesterday gave me a very good idea. If you use the aluminum foil that does not stick to food, you can cut a baked potato in half and season it and then bake it on this foil the cut side down. I haven't tried it yet but I do intend to do so. The leader also talked about cooking her meat and potatoes inside of a cleaned out pumpkin. I'm not sure how this is done and I may e-mail her if anyone is interested.

I will be posting on the CORE recipe board a muffin and cookie recipe made from pumpkin.

Keep up your excellent work!

Nita

I got to change my chick tonight! 2.4 down for a total of 12.2 in seven weeks . I couldn't be happier. I'm just going to keep plugging away. Instead of being overwhelmed by the whole 150 pounds, I'm going to keep shooting to change to my next chick....so 5 pounds at a time. Tomorrow starts another week. This week I'm going to concentrate on drinking more water.

Good luck, Nita. I'll be rooting for you. If you like to cook, don't forget the Barbo recipe site. She has some wonderful Core recipes there. I've tried quite a few and liked them.
