Cool

Hi, all. Still OP. did eat the bagel & cream cheese this morning but compensated for it the rest of the day. Maybe next week I'll just have half a bagel. The weekend will be the big test. May try the scale tomorrow and see if I've lost anything. Have to go home now and do the laundry. Yuk.
Have a good weekend.

Well it sounds as if everyone is doing good. Rosetta you have just about gotten over the hump. I know you can do it. I'm sending goooooood Vibes your way to get you through till morning.

Rosey if it ever got below zero here nothing would survive. Don't know how you do it. I also enjoy crafts but don't have much time these days.

Today my mother-in-law asked me if I was loosing weight. It was a nice feeling. Hope I can continue.

Got to go to work now. Check in tomorrow.

Hi, all. Rosey, I bet you make great snowmen. I don't do crafts. Have taken classes in pottery and off-loom weaving, but I don't have any talent there. The most crafty thing I do is occasionally color mandalas as a form of meditation. I used to write, but don't have the energy these days. If I were locked up all winter I'd probably go nuts or become a tv junkie.
Deb, good going with your MIL. Of course you can continue. I made it through the weekend with only minor slips. Down about 4 lbs, I think. (my weigh-in is complicated). I should know for sure how much I've lost by next week. I feel lighter today (like I should weigh 120 ) My blood sugar was only 135 this morning -- it's usually been 170-180, so I must be doing something right.Have a nice evening.

Yeah Rosetta your on the right track. I'm so glad you have pulled yourself up by the bootstraps. If you can see a marked difference in your readings your doing it right. And feeling better is just an added bonus.
I'm up a little too early today. But have so much to do in my house. Of course all the help DH said was going to come my way has not exactly materialized, and I'm starting to dread walking into my own house.
So today I give up some sleep. Check in later.

Hi, Deb -- I'm still slogging along. Getting a little bored with the diet so I'll have to think up something different for next week. I've been bringing my lunch for the week to work on Monday so I don't have any excuses to "forget" it and end up at the local deli. Tell your dh to get off his derriere and give you some help! In the meantime I hope you get some rest. TTYL

Default DonnaD.... Lipitor and muscle pain..

Hi DonnaD,
I just wanted to pop in (I'm usually a lurker) and ask you if it had ever been suggested that you supplement with CoQ10 while you're taking lipitor.

Lipitor is a statin and it's been commonly associated with muscle pain and weakness. Although some Dr.s say this is hooey... most people I know say once they added the CoQ10 into their diet, their pain eventually went away. Don't let the Dr. tell you it's all in your head either...

I'll pop back out to lurker mode, but if you just google on statins and CoQ10 you will find lots of info.

Good luck to you!

sbbo

Cool Co-enzyme Q

Thanks for the reminder sbbo. Actually Co-Enzyme Q is one of the supplements recommended for diabetics, along with chromium and, I think, Lycopene. Dr.Weil.com has info for diabetics and recommends this. Co-Enzyme Q is good for the heart. I take Lipitor but haven's experienced any problems. Have been thinking about Co-E Q for awhile. It's expensive and you have to be careful taht you're getting what you pay for.

Hi, I do a lot of lurking.
I have been on with Wanted Support on the Buddy list headed up by Bulging2Much.
I lurk on the 100 club most of the time.
I would also like to learn from your group too.
I'm trying to use mostly the GI way of eating.
I gained past my SW and by 3 lbs and lost 2 back off. My BP has been around 130/77 and today it was 116/67. I'm so excited! My sugar is still more that I like.
Do you eat carbs in the evening(potatoes, etc)?
If you do should I cut it off so many hours before bed?

Rosetta I've never heard of Co-E-Q. What is it, and why is it a good thing for diabetics. I'm still so new to this that there are tons of things for me to learn. A 5 min. doc appt. every 6 months is not teaching me what I need to know.
Today in the bathroom I actully noticed I can reach areas that have been hard to reach with more easy. I know I've lost, But not sure how much.
Maybe time to revisit the scale. I just think I'm doing so much better by not obcessing over it.
It's a great idea to have your food at work for lunch. Sounds like you just need to vary the menu a bit. I know you don't like to cook. But I've found that when I fix my meals and vacuum seal the leftovers in single portions it helps me stay on track even when I'm not in the mood to cook.
Well I found out tonight that next week will be my last week on the night shift. I am ready to get back to the world. And DH even misses me a bit. He cooked today, and even cleaned up afterward. I was amazed.

Hi, all. Oldwriter, lurkers are welcome. I lurk at other forums, too, including the 100 club. Here we are all trying to lose weight and deal with our diabetes. None of us has the perfect program, but working with the GI is a good start. WTG on your blood pressure! As for blood sugar, mine has gone down since I've been on a relatively strict diet the past two weeks, although my morning numbers are still high. I've been counting calories rather than carbs and I'm afraid I eat dinner late - 9ish. That may explain the high a.m. numbers. I get home late (deliberately) because otherwise I would eat two lean cuisine dinners instead of one. Also, I can't get to sleep if I'm hungry. It's probably not a good idea to eat a whole bunch of carbs before you go to bed. If you cook, load up on low-GI vegs and minimize the potatoes, etc. I would suggest adding a planned snack later that will satisfy you. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.
Deb - WTG on the reach problem! I'm sure you've lost a good bit of weight, but if you feel better not looking at the scale, there's no reason to. Co-Enzyme Q-10 is a powerful antioxidant, which means it counteracts free radicals (the stuff that causes disease). Most doctors won't mention it because it's a supplement and considered alternative therapy, but I've heard enough good things about it to consider it. I just don't want to start taking it then stop. I really recommend Dr.Weil.com. I suscribe to his newsletter. This month is National Diabetes Awareness month so he's highlighting that. Thanks for the food tips. I should do more cooking, and if I can figure out how to do it once a week, I will. I'm thinking of making a chopped salad to bring to work for the week. For dinner, I've been relying on Lean Cuisine and Healthy Choice. It's easy for me, especially since I have real problems with portion control. I budget in a small glass of red wine to wash it down with so it's not too unpleasant. They now have a line of low carb meals too. That's great that you see the end of the nightshift. Give DH a great big kiss to reinforce his helpful behavior.

Yoohoo where is anyone? My Wednesday post didn't appear on the update. Wonder why? Anyway, I'm still OP, getting used to being a little hungry all the time. Very busy at work today so can't linger. Happy weekend.

Rosetta WTG Just keep hanging in there. After a couple of weeks you won't even feel hungry anymore. Your body is going through an adjustment right now. Just watch out for all the sodium in the pre-packaged dinners. But if they help you stay OP. Just compensate by cutting the salt elsewhere. Boy wouldn't it be a drag to get your blood suger down, just to see your BP go up. Some days you just can't win.
Pat just don't let the stress of the extra hours get to you. Do a little planing ahead on meals if you can.
Old writer Glad you can find us of some help. I also say watch those carbs. It's really working for me right now. Not that I don't eat carbs. But I keep them to a limit of 2 servings per day, and really watch the portion size. I really think the portion size is the key. It's so easy to get a little heavy handed with the carbs because it takes so little to really add up. Here lately I've started trying new things like turnips instead of potatoes. When boiled they really taste almost the same, or so I tell myself. Give it a try, you might be surprized.
Well I hate to get to long winded. So I'm out for now. Everyone have a great weekend.

Default Sorry I've been MIA

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers.
Things are pretty much back to normal. We have a nasty cold going thru the house over the week and a half(started at the wake) But everyone is feeling better. I'm still not feeling quite right but I think it's a combo of the cold, allergies, TOM just finishing and also just finishing my first week of SBD induction. Sometimes the drop in carbs initially makes for headaches and such. I've been feeling a little dizzy but it not low BS, it's still pretty high though I'm down 6.5lbs in 5 days. (that reminds me to change the ticker.)

Rosetta, sorry I didn't post here til today and just saw your post for instructions. But I see Deb explained it well. Sounds like the calorie counting is working for you. I hate concentrating on food so much. Of course we're hungry, we have to think about food all the time. How much, low carb, low fat, what time.....aggghhhh! But keep plugging away. We all have to. My morning readings are still high and my carbs are very low but exercise has been non existant because I haven't been feeling well. Got to get the butt in gear.

Deb, Sounds like your doing well OP. Are you still doing diabetic Atkins? So glad your going to start days again. woo hoo!

Pat, Deb is right. Try not to stress too much. I've been stressing alot with my middle son and some other crap going on. Sometimes I think I can't take anymore and I stop and think of what I have and it gets me back to reality. I'm luckier than I think. But when you need to vent, come here. Everyone is great here and will listen anytime you need. We're here for ya chickadee

SBBO, thanks for the info on the CoQ10. I've heard of it but never looked too far into it. I will ask the doc about it also. Thanks again.

Rosey, Oh Rosey, Snow, storms...I just don't know how you do it. I get so depressed and lazy in the winter and here you are going to curves and so much energy. You are part of my winter inspiration. Thank you.

Well, I'm sorry if I missed anyone. ttyl
