Ohmygosh -- you must have been posting while I was writing.....The garage floor with bleach!! (hey -- does that work? My garage is full of oil from the oil leaks that my other car had. I keep throwing kitty litter on it until spring).
OK - REALLY shutting off the computer.
I know you're not online now, but for when you come back, yes, I guess it works. Her garage floor is painted with cement paint, though. And she has a flat oil pan that she parks over in case her car leaks. But get this...when she visits me here, she always scrubs my driveway with Tide and bleach using a broom. I have a long driveway. An our cars don't leak oil. My neighbors always joke and ask when she's coming back so she can come scrub their driveways this time. It's funny.
O.K. I'm going to jump on the messy house train. My house seems to have a lot of "stuff" and it seems like, at times, that every available surface has something on it. I'm a crafter, sewer and I always seem to have some house reno on the go. We put laminate throughout our main floor (bedrooms included) a couple of years ago and that saves my sanity. at least when I sweep up i know that i've gotten all the hairballs - i have a high energy dog and a long haired cat. bought a roomba last spring and girls - treat yourselves!! i love it!! Either that we'll share echobaby's mom and she can clean up for us.
As for people dropping in - it depends on who it is. i have a couple of girlfriends who i don't mind - as long as we have some clean tea cups or wine glasses - that's all i need. On the whole however, i don't like people dropping i can't just settle down and visit. have to tidy up a bit first. I'm with you echobaby - i used to work in a job with a lot of volunteers - i spent all day looking after people and making them feel valuable (which they were) and then had small kids at home - i just felt like everyone was just hanging on me and i needed some space.
I also had a hard time giving up my pre-IP clothes - just did it yesterday in fact. three big laundry baskets full. there were some nice clothes in there but i'm not EVER going to fit them again. i had a talk with myself and decided that i'm never going to have this 40 lbs to lose again.
torchlaker - do you still have your digital scale? if you do, and you can reset it, set it so that it's 4# below zero (or whatever the difference is with your IP place). then when you weigh yourself, it will be correct. maybe you can't do that with a digital just a spring one...

Do you have a wet roomba or dry? If dry, does it propel itself from hardwood to an area rug? or does it bounce off the rug? Please tell us all about it. 1 room a day? Turn corners?
the roomba is like a little robot. there's a home base where it sits, charges and where it returns to when it's done. the one i have comes with two little tower thingees that you put in doorways and they keep the roomba from going into that room. I paid around $300 on sale. I take turns opening and closing the bedroom doors and i slide my couch and loveseat forward every so often so it can get in those spots. it does the living room, hallway and then goes into the rooms where the doors are open. goes from hardwood to carpet. it sweeps - does not have suction but will "sweep" your carpet. i moved my furniture around a bit so it could get into spots and it doesn't do behind the tv (and other places) where it can't get into. I bought it about a year ago and haven't vacuumed since - i sweep, rarely, in the spots where the roomba can't go - keep in mind, i don't have carpet. picks up pet hair like a hot da**.

Sounds like a thing I MUST have! Not the least of reasons is so I can laugh at my cat's reaction to it. One last question......when it sweeps up, does it make a pile of the dust? Or where does it go?

it has a little tray that you dump - i have to dump it every time because there's lots of pet hair that it picks up. it does along the baseboards and is quite amazing to watch - it's random around the room but by the end, the whole space is done. I usually clean out the tray, turn it on and head off to work - my dog was growling and barking at it when i first got it - we didn't let her cause i didn't want her chasing it when i was gone and chewing it up or something. i put a tower thingee across the doorway to the room where her bed is so she has somewhere to go and hide. the cat just looks at it with disdain - it's a cat's way.

Sooooo, the doc says he thinks last week's bout was food poisoning....but I still have off and on nausea. Woke me up at 3:30 this am. but I powered thru and went to work, etc. Noticed lots of burping today though. So he is going to check my gastric emptying, do a bunch of blood work, etc. Wants me to take my prevacid every day now. Think he forgot he stopped renewing my prescription 3 yrs ago! So for now I am mostly "off" IP. But we'll see. I might go back on and see how I feel. Cabo in 1 month and I so want to be lighter!
Thanks again all for the thoughts. And Wow, the losses, the houses, the mothers who clean at 82! Me personally....I used to keep a very tidy house. Drove away most renters/roommates with my "rules." But I gave up the battle when I moved in with my now husband. He is a slob to say the least. But I AM NOT his mother nor his maid so I refuse to clean up after him. I just learned to look the other way. But I do miss not being able to have company stop by. I would be horrified if they knew how we live. We have separate bathrooms thank goodness!
Is that roomba that little robot-y thing that goes around. I thought you had to remote control it. Does it know how to jump steps? I have 2 steps up into the kitchen, and 2 steps up into the living room!! AND dog hair!! I think I want this.....oh wait...I have car payments now!
I did try to get my digital scale to reset...pulled out the instructions, but it doesn't show any way how to do it. Yeah, I can get my springloaded one down to zero.....I dunno. Won't worry about it until after vacation cuz I will still be checking in at the drs.
If you read the other forum, you will know I had a yucky day. My son was falling apart...so I probably was on the phone with him 4-5 times. I finally decided I didn't have the focus to sew....so I decided to try on some summer clothes, hoping something would fit. Nothing fit! Nothing! I live in northern Michigan, for goodness sakes....swimsuits aren't out yet. I was very discouraged because I really don't have the money for new clothes for my trip, yet no energy to sew. I did cut out a muslin for shorts (longer ones to hide my new dripping thigh fat)...and will try to make those up tomorrow. Turning off the computer did help....there must have been 5-6 times that I almost went on to look for swimsuits, order a canine cover for the car, etc....But most of my day was being with my son on the phone. He keeps apologizing, but I know he doesn't want to talk to anyone else about his problems either. He is very private.
SylviaG -- you have lost twice what I have lost!! I am SO glad you changed your ticker.
Echobaby - wow your mom sounds amazing!!! I have just plain concrete floor...but I am still gonna try the bleach in the spring. I have a long sand driveway.....so bleach won't work there. Man, I hope i can be that active at 82!

She is TRULY amazing. Right now she should be landing in Vegas to spend the weekend with her best friend who's meeting her there. She loves the slots!!
