Hi ladies!

Popping in to ask a quick question. Have any of you experienced a problem with yeast infections since starting a low carb woe?

LEELEE57 03-06-2016 06:29 PM

Hey Melissa - I've never had many yeast infections in my life (knock on wood). Hope someone can give you an answer. It would seem to me that the less carbs and sugar you are eating, candida would be dying off! I'm not a medical professional so I could be all wrong. Just seems like common sense to me. Are you taking a probiotic?

LEELEE57 03-06-2016 06:30 PM

Thanks Rennie for the welcome.

Hi LeeLee. I too have not had a problem ever with yeast infections unless I was on antibiotics. No, I'm not on a probiotic. Should I look into that?

Wannabehealthy 03-07-2016 07:36 AM

ZCA, a balance beam scale is what everyone refers to as a doctor's scale, with the little weight that you move back and forth across the beam to balance it. I wanted that because my belly was so big that when I stood on a scale I couldn't see past my belly to look down to see what I weigh. LOL One time I wanted to do a Diet Bet and you need a digital scale for that. DH bought one at Goodwill for a couple dollars but I never got around to putting batteries in it. They don't work well on carpet and my bathroom is too small to keep the scale in there all the time.

Rennie, I can't sneak anything over on my husband. He always comes in the kitchen to see what I'm doing. One time I ran out of ricotta cheese while making lasagna and I added some cottage cheese, which he won't eat. He ate it and never knew the difference. Then one time he got constipated from pain meds but wouldn't take some Miralax so I put it in Jello and he ate that. I know what you mean about "do unto others", but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do. It's different with the pork and beans...you just don't buy that kind. I buy it once in a while when it's on sale, but just pick out the little piece of pork. I would just eat around it, but he makes me pick it out.

I forgot to answer you about the pasta in chili. I just add some cooked elbow macaroni. If you leave it in for a while it soaks up the flavor of the chili, but it just makes it a heartier meal. I take my portion out before I add the macaroni, but I've been known to eat some with it in there.

Melissa, I don't have problems with yeast infections, but I will echo Lee Lee and say to avoid sugar and try taking a probiotic, or eat yogurt. I used to use yogurt when I had to be on an antibiotic.

Hi LeeLee! Welcome to our thread. Since you have been lurking, you know that we have all types of eating plans here, different degrees of low carb, and then there's me, who can't stay low carb for a full day. LOL I laugh about it, but it's not funny. :(

Prairie Queen
, did you wrap the bacon around the pineapple spears and broil it?

ZCA72 03-07-2016 07:49 AM

wanna, I didn't know you had that kind of scale. I always found those to be intimidating on moving those weights around to get your weight LOL
I take the easy way out, step and get weight answer, too bad it is never the answer I am really wanting :)

--------good monday to all
kinda got a sore throat thing happening, hope I don't go downhill. moving slow. gonna take some meds and just ease thru the day. bit of work and chores but am not pushing.

just gonna eat 2 ribeyes today whenever. simple.

sunny but cold. annoyed that spring is not here yet :) but I just have to wait. mother nature isn't going by my schedule! too bad! :)

Jacqui_D 03-07-2016 08:03 AM

Hi Ladies! I'm still here! I haven't had access to a computer and I have two more days, today and tomorrow, of being super busy, morning to night, and I should be back to my regular schedule and back online! Staying OP but eating out every meal so I don't know how that's going to play out. Be back soon! Miss you all!

Well, sometimes, when we get rid of any kind of food our body has been eating, our gut flora can get out of balance. Sometimes, probiotics really help with the bloat but my rule is always go low and slow with the dose. Everytime I try them (and it is recommended for someone who has Hashimotos to "heal our gut" because that is where our immune system is), I get extreme anxiety so I've just nixed them but my daughter swears by them. You can always give it a try. Just use a high quality one.

LEELEE57 03-07-2016 02:37 PM

I decided to post my meals every day so you guys can help me be accountable. I bake this egg casserole with spinach and bacon every Sunday night so I have five breakfasts to take to work (otherwise, I'll be standing in the breakfast taco line and eating potatoes with egg and refried beans and flour tortillas!). So, here's my food for the day:

Breakfast: 3X3 inch piece of the breakfast casserole and 1 diet Pepsi (my only one for the day).
No morning snack

Lunch: bowl of homemade zuppa Toscana soup (it has potatoes but I didn't have that many of them in the bowl (maybe 1/4 cup).

Afternoon snack: Probably a small amount of cottage cheese and pineapple

Dinner: Taco wraps (use leaf lettuce instead of a taco shell)

I also drink at least a gallon of decaffeinated tea sweetened with stevia and three bottles of water a day.

Happy Monday and Hello

Carol Sue, that's the only thing that I don't give to my husband because I know how some things may wreck havoc on others and I have to deal with that if I did. But I have bought generic things and put them inside the name brand container because he is a name brand person. And he never knew the difference but he also doesn't prepare his own meals other than the occasional sandwich. But the kids will say, "Daddy did you know Mommy bought xyz instead of abc?" so they don't know either ;) I remember you talking about the jello before :)

LEELEE may I have the recipe and steps for the egg casserole, please ? Does it taste like eggs? I think I need to add pico de gallo to my eggs so I don't taste them :)

Jacqui miss you too

I put hot sauce on mine too!!!! Okay, it won't let me post a link because I don't have enough posts. If you go to Allrecipes dot com, and search for spinach, bacon and egg casserole, you'll find it.

I love it and I never get tired of it!:carrot:

got it, thank you :)

PrairieQueen 03-07-2016 07:38 PM

Evening ladies! Hope everyone is starting to shake off the winter blahs and getting for spring....I inow I'm trying, but this perimenopause crapola is starting to ruin a second week in a row.. Saturday before last was my day for TOM to start and I had cramps that set and th next....plus bloating and constipation the entire week. Now today the cramps return and worse bloating and constipation. Oh, and did I mention I'm 2-3 pounds up every day even though I think I'm actually more in the black (500+ cal deficit every day but Saturday) lately than ever before. This happened in December as well. I may have to change my usual May dr. appt to next week if things don't improve. (And I've been walking, stairs, and drinking enough water for a family of four).

Anyway, today's menu wasn't spectacular, but not awful....

Break - chorizo omelette
Snack - a nibble of almonds/dried berries
Lunch - bean/ham soup
Dinner - meatloaf, homemade hash browns w/onions and peppers cookied in butter/olive oil

Wannabehealthy 03-07-2016 08:03 PM

I just googled my balance beam scale, and I don't want anyone thinking I paid that much for it!!! I would never pay $179 for a scale. LOL I know I've had it for about 20 years, and as I recall, it was $59.95. Even that was a lot back then, but I was still working then and if I wanted something I bought it. LOL Now I only buy things if I really NEED it!

ZCA72 03-08-2016 07:00 AM

oh Wanna even $179 is not high anymore with these prices going up and up constantly :)

----------happy tuesday all
no loss no gain, just waiting for my next drop. :)
one thing I love about zero carb, there is never ever a gain of any kind. I do not miss that yo yo junk from my old other dieting days.

2 big ribeyes with butter
have some pork chops to sub if wanted

off to run errands and usual work day.
sunny and warm. WEE. can't wait to open my pool and swim!

Wannabehealthy 03-08-2016 09:46 AM

I think $179 is a lot of money to spend on a SCALE. LOL Especially when my weight is NOT noticeably improving. I would consider it a good investment if it was helping.

Prairie Queen, I'm sorry to hear you are having so many problems with perimenopause. As far as the weight, are you watching your sodium? It could be contributing to the bloating, and constipation could be contributing, too. Not enough fiber? I'm just mentioning things you could consider.....I don't really have the answer. I never have constipation, so I don't really know what to do about it, other than laxitives and stool softeners.

melissakd 03-08-2016 11:11 AM

Hello ladies! Finally saw a 1lb loss this morning. I was getting a little frustrated. Have to travel for work the next couple of days, first time since starting LC. Will be interesting to see food choices!

PrairieQueen 03-08-2016 06:57 PM

Evening all! It was 77 degrees today in my part of Ohio.......fantastic

Carol Sue I think I may have inadvertently been getting more salt than I'm used to via the homemade bean/ham soup I've had for lunch three days running. I put 2x as much ham in as well as celery salt (no celery or seed on hand). And I had two Coke Zeroes Sunday. So after my restaurant food tonight I'm going to have to drink a swimming pool full of water to flush this stuff out. As for the other problem, I think it's just the normal pms type symptoms....nothing requiring Smooth Moves tea yet :)

Break - sausage McMuffin :(
Lunch - bean/ham soup
Snack - dried berries/almond mix
Dinner - grilled wings, onion straws, lite beer :(

Edited to add: cran water, two carrots, warm lemon water in an effort to flush the salt :)

Tomorrow, I'm set for organic breakfast burrito and meatloaf patty for lunch.

ZCA72 03-09-2016 07:22 AM

LOL Wanna, I hear you on that scale. if it was dropping a ton of lbs. and you saw that, then you would say it was the best money ever spent. :)
I know. my scale isn't moving right now but with summer coming I will be eating less. Just cause I will be out of the house and not near the kitchen as much :)

------------hi everyone, I hope the day is a good one for all.

easy day here. sunny and nice. now that the weather is cooperating I can start planning my mountain hikes again. ahh, warm weather is what I love. so will be planning up some good hikes straight up the trails. feels so good to move!

ribeye and chicken today.

have to hit the store and do meat in the freezer stock up. I go thru alot fast :) but it is good, I love it!!

Wannabehealthy 03-09-2016 02:03 PM

I think everyone here knows how my DH is such a big carb lover. Mainly potatoes of all kinds and lots of baked goods. LOTS! Well, this morning they had a segment on the news that a high carbohydrate diet contributes to cancer. He asked me what carbohydrates were and I told him. He knows I avoid carbs. I didn't want him to be upset so I told him that his carbs never make him gain weight, but he said "Yeah, well, I don't want to get cancer!" I wonder if he will cut back on his carbs now? He recently started eating grilled salmon with me and that shocked the heck out of me! I always used to cook something else for him on the days that I made salmon, now he loves it, and actually had me buy more in the grocery store this morning. My DH is not one to change like this! LOL

PrairieQueen 03-09-2016 07:44 PM

The bloats are going away, digestion so much better today, stocked up on lots of fresh veggies, ready to "get clean" again. I hadn't been eating hardly any fresh produce, so back on it.

Break - Canadian bacon burrito
Lunch - Chinese chicken salad, meatloaf Patty
Dinner - Cinci chili spaghetti

ZCA72 03-10-2016 07:46 AM

HI EVERYONE
enjoying reading everyone's posts!!

I fought the carb monster last night. I wanted it ALL in the house I was one step from raiding kiddo's junk stash. But like you I really had a chat with myself and got over it. thing was I was SO close. one nano-second was going ape. It would have been horrible epic insanity. but then I thought of HOW long I have been zero carb. to give that up would just be stupid, and I could not do stupid. I won over me :)

tuna and mayo
ribeye steak
pork chops

20 high intensity cardio tape--done
off to treadmill for 1/2 hr high incline in a sec
20 minute easy tone arms and legs...3 lb weights

then I have alot of small projects around the house and other things. So far so good. I am loving the new me I like my progress, I am happy eating my plan and spring is heading here fast! all sweet!

PrairieQueen 03-10-2016 10:16 AM

Morning everyone! ZCA you go with that willpower of yours! I could never do zero carbs for any amount of time.....maybe zero fast carbs, but I love my fresh veg too much. Carol Sue yeah on hubs and his "switching" over to the dark side :) It took my hubs about six months to start to appreciate what I was trying to do and want to join in a bit. Now, he keeps bugging me about buying an expensive treadmill. I just say no, go take a walk. Jacquihope you're taking care of yourself as you work on that house of yours. I'm sure you're probably exhausted from it. Rennie, LeeLee hey there!!

Wannabehealthy 03-10-2016 12:36 PM

I noticed that recently DH has been eating scrambled eggs for breakfast instead of his usual french toast. He would never admit I was right about carbs. ha ha

PQ, get the treadmill. It's so much safer than walking outside, especially for older people. A woman on another thread recently broke bones in her hand because she tripped on uneven pavement and fell while out for her walk.

PrairieQueen 03-10-2016 06:23 PM

Carol Sue I am thinking about it, but I want to wait until thus sumner when I can research them better and to see if he's still motivated :)

I snacked a lot today but they were all "good" snacks.

Break - buffalo chicken wrap w/lettuce, tomatoes, Dubliner cheese, onions
Lunch - same as breakfast w/ two cuties
Snack - three cuties, prosciutto panino, pickle
Dinner - asparagus/ham pasta with shaved Parmesan and a squeeze of lemon
Snack - lemon water, popcorn

love2b150 03-10-2016 06:44 PM

Carol Sue, I'm glad your hubby is making the switch. It will definitely help you for sure. :) My husband doesn't admit when I'm right either. He just joins in and the kids and I smile :) Good for you Carol Sue :high:

PrairieQueen glad that bloat is leaving you  LOL, that's funny, telling him to go take a walk ... does he go?

ZCA72 good job on sayng NO to the carb monster. You have a ton of will power :high: I'm sure that's why you have been successful on your journey, GO YOU!. Keep up the great work :high:

Jacqui, hope you are doing well. My eating HAD been off the chain. I got up pretty close to 180 but I have done better. Yesterday and today have been OP. However, I think that it is due to a terrible head cold that I have. I'm hoping that this way of eating will actually plant itself again and I can get back to the 160's. I'm in the lower 170's as of today.

LEELEE

LEELEE57 03-10-2016 08:58 PM

Hi everybody!

Well, I got on the scale yesterday and it was 186.6. I finally broke the 188 mark. Well, I got on the scale this morning and 188.6!!! What the heck?? I think something is wrong with my scale because I step on it four times within 10 seconds and the numbers are different. I don't know how in the heck my weight went up 2 freaking pounds! I didn't binge or eat anything yucky. Ugh!!

I hope you're all doing well. We're about to drown down here in Texas but my lillies are coming up out of the ground so spring has sprung. Yippee!

ZCA72 03-11-2016 06:43 AM

PQ, yup, research and get a treadmill. nice thing is they are there for any immediate fast use when you can't get outside for the longer fresh air walk. I can jump on mine on high incline and get the old body moving in good range in a very short time. they are worth it! of course mine sat a long time before I used it, thinking this was a waste of big money---but then I used it and wow, good deal! LOL

------------hi everyone
moving slower today. woke up feeling a bit 'off'. allergies kicking in. have errands to run etc. just gonna plow thru the day.
ribeye and chicken thighs (maybe cajun seasoned) nothing exciting. food is definitely not on my hit list today. I love days when food is not a draw at all!

everyone enjoy this nice friday!!

Wannabehealthy 03-11-2016 10:02 AM

LeeLLee good job on breaking through the plateau. Don't give your scale so much power. Know that you can and will, lose.

I should look outside and see if my crocuses are peeking through. I can't see them from the house.

PQ there is a chance that DH will lose motivation, but like ZCA said, it might sit there for a while, but if it's there he doesn't have an excuse, and you might get on it too. Do your research. If he will be wanting to run, you will need one strong enough to support running.

I thought about you last night. I was reading a book last night that referred to bacon as rashers. I swear I never heard that before. The book was published in the UK. Is that why?

Rennie, I'm not going so far as to say that DH is making the switch, but he is aware of the circumstances. It's different seeing it on the news. When I say it, all he hears is blah, blah, blah.

melissakd 03-11-2016 10:13 AM

Hi Ladies!

Was working out of town for a couple of days and surprisingly had no problem staying on plan and this morning I'm FINALLY down another pound!! So happy.

Question... my hubby has leftover KFC in the fridge from dinner while I was out of town. If I remove the breading/skin, can I eat that for lunch?

love2b150 03-11-2016 05:42 PM

message from Jacqui_D

I have not gone AWOL, I'm at our river house without a computer! We are unexpectedly hustling to get things done (and I am exhausted) because we have renters lined up who want in asap. I miss y'all!!! I'm being good but we're eating out all the time :yikes:!

Wannabehealthy 03-11-2016 08:42 PM

Oh Melissa, lunch has come and gone. Did you eat the KFC? I would have, but I'm not so rigid. I really don't like breaded chicken so I would have pulled the breading off anyway. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Glad to hear you stayed OP while you were away and lost weight, too!

ZCA72 03-12-2016 07:27 AM

thanks all for the congrats on willpower to overcome cravings :) they are super few and far between but when those biggies come I got a battle on my hands LOL

Rennie, thanks for posting that about Jacqui....wondered where she was :)

---------good morning everyone

easy day
going to rain soon. treadmill high incline and 1 easy exercise tape. I need to move. move and move again!

energy level is SO high with my way of eating I can't express how great I feel. it is amazing. it was a super hard long commitment to change over to ZC/VLC eating, but long time on plan now and I must say the results of it on my body are simply out of this world great!! Eat as much as I want, when I want, no calorie count, no tracking of anything. just eat and let the scale drop on its own time. this to me is finally my 'easy way to diet' LOL

I know what I want for me and I am doing exactly what I desire. Can't ask for more!

big ribeye with butter later
chicken thighs with smidge of cajun seasoning for next meal

off to get the day started, daylight is burning and I gotta move it! Everyone enjoy their Saturday and forever keep an eagle eye on those carbs :) :)

CHANGE: exercise change
45 minute high intensity interval training tape. Done and WOW
I did this with 2 lb. hand weights.

I figure why do 'an easy tape' when in reality I need to pony up and do a real piece of exercise! after all I want my body to change, so it is up to me to make it happen

PrairieQueen 03-12-2016 07:52 AM

Morning all! Hope everyone's weekend is going well. Thanks for the update Rennie....hopefully Jacqui can get her life back to normal once she gets new renters in. Carol Sue, ZCA I kind of want a treadmill myself, but I don't want hubs to know that. He'd really start nagging :)

My weight is finally within 0.2 lbs of my low two weeks ago. A big drop of 1.2 lbs overnight. I was stumped and frustrated as to what was going on....my jump up even though small was discouraging. I blamed pms, not eating enough, salt, perimenopause....I think it was a little synergistic, a combo of all. I switched to more fresh veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, onion, asparagus, carrots....and more in the fridge), lemon water, and I upped my calories in. I've been reading a lot about calorie cyclineatly. I'd heard about it before but never really got into it. It seems that's what I've been doing naturally out of the time. I've hit a couple of short-term plateaus since June and I think it happens when I stay low-cal for too many days in a row. I always thought I was being better when I didn't have my Saturday cheat day or I didn't get my wings on Tuesday night. All I can say is my calories have been up since Wednesday and my weight has been going down since. I still don't eat junk and have increased the calories with healthy snacks usually. We'll see how it goes for the next couple of weeks.

Yesterday's menu...

Breakfast - buffalo wrap (rotisserie chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, Parmesan, my own buffalo sauce)
Snack - white grapes
Lunch - repeat of breakfast
Snack - prosciutto panino, hummus and sweet potato chips
Dinner - 1/4 of mariachi chicken pizza, 2 Miller 64 beers
Snack - two pineapple spears, lemon water

ZCA72 03-13-2016 08:49 AM

PQ best time to shop is about Sept/October. treadmills are on sale big time. the salesman told me in Nov and Dec. they don't put them on sale cause too many people buy them at the holiday as gifts and they don't sale them cause they want full price :) I got a great deal on mine in October and it was sure worth it.

---------------hi everyone!!
dark clouds, not sure how the day will go. more rain it looks like. sun coming out not promising.
my shoulders are sore from 2 lb weights doing that exercise yesterday so today I will do an easy exercise tape. like Leslie Sansone walking away the lbs. They are so easy to follow and get you moving without the wear and tear on me then some high incline treadmill later.

ribeye and pork chops.

latey I stopped cheese and it makes the scale go down a little easier. just cause I don't snack anymore. cheese is only when I put it on a burger and for some reason I am not in burger moods anymore but I am sure that will shift later and I will be eating alot more burgers. probably when hubby fires up the grill in a bit. spring is here and alot of BBQ time is right on the edge.

scale down 1/2 this morning. will take it. it all adds up eventually

hope everyone has a wonderful sunday!

PQ, I do the exact same thing with DH. I wait until I am absolutely sure before I tell him. LOL

Miller beer gives me a headache. I am a Coors drinker when I drink at all.

I don't remember what month I bought my elliptical. We stopped in at Dicks to see what they had on sale, plus they have them set up so I could get on them and try before I buy. I tried every one until I found one that was comfortable and had a nice smooth glide to it. It is a Sole E25. All of them were on sale, plus all ellipticals and treadmills were additional $100 off. Then when I checked out, they said I would get an additional 10% off if I opened an account, which took off an additional $90. Then I received points on my account that equaled $50 off anything in the store. I went up and got a $49 punching bag for $0. So now I have that, too hanging from a beam in the basement. I keep telling DH I am going to paste his picture on it when I'm mad at him and punch away! LOL My treadmill is pretty old. It's a ProForm Crosswalk. Works fine for this old lady!

PrairieQueen 03-13-2016 09:09 PM

Thanks for the advice on the treadmill ZCA and Carol Sue. Hubs is chomping at the bit but he's going to have to wait a bit longer.

I had a great day today...lunch w/daughter and boyfriend then drinks at MadTree Brewery or my birthday. In between daughter took me to a spa for a facial that included a foot massage and arm/neck/shoulder massage in a very relaxing setting......so nice.

Break - Irish banger, fried egg, pineapple
Lunch - latkes topped with two sunny side up eggs, goetta, Bloody Mary
Snack - beer
Dinner - very small serving of linguini w/shrimp and spinach

ZCA72 03-14-2016 06:43 AM

happy monday all

running errands and usual things.

will do 40 min. high intensity exercise tape with 2 lb hand weights in a bit.
then off to the races

tuna and mayo and ribeye planned

PrairieQueen 03-14-2016 08:14 AM

Just stopping by for a short rant.....Today started off like a usual Monday: a little tired this morning, weight up two pounds, not wanting to go face the kids at work.... Then Aunt Flo decides to arrive during my plan period two weeks late! What the heck? I thought this month was going to be "Get out of jail free." I guess not....third Monday in a row with PMS and the flood gates finally opened. End of rant.

melissakd 03-14-2016 08:15 AM

Hi All!

Hubby and I fished all day saturday and then did yard work yesterday, it was such a beautiful weekend here. Still on plan, but have found my self eating much less. Just dinner both saturday and sunday. Both very LC. I feel a lot more energetic lately too. I need to really start a regular exercise routine now.

Hope you all have a great day. :)
