Best thing I did to keep myself in check while on vacation was to take my scale with me and weigh in every day!

Thank you for the tip!!! I can't imagine packing a scale in my suitcase...but I will figure out how to do periodic WI while I am away.

valarieg...What program are you on, and may I ask why do you feel like giving up? Hopefully you won't do that, there has to be a solution . We can all help you.

Tamikl.. If you like the Meta Balance and have a problem and don't like Meta Slim, have your consultant change things around for you.. They changed things for me throughout my weight loss.. Make sure you journal, so you can
have them see everything you put in your mouth, but if you do not have any problems, you are on your way ..Glad you weight loss was good for you and you seem very motivated and that is a good thing.

I have been experimenting on nuts on maintenance, and that is such a big trigger for me, so we shall see what the scale says tomorrow.. I had 1/8 cup of mixed nuts, no salt added... If I gain, no more nuts. LOL.

Everyone have a great night.

Patzi

Thank you, Patzi. My coach did tell me that we could "tweek" menu's to fit individual needs. I consistently see the same coach each week and LOVE that. I would hate to just get stuck with different ones all of the time. I have sort of bonded with her, and truly believe she is vital to my success at the moment~We even do email check ins! She has been a blessing for sure:)

Fluffy in Florida 08-25-2011 10:30 PM

WI today ... 2 more lbs. down but .5 away from signing the 10lb board. I hate that damn .5 lol I did get my first measurement for a ribbon and I lost 19.5 inches!!

coarkkayaker 08-25-2011 10:54 PM

Wow - some great results on the WIs.

tkdtara84 - I can understand not "clicking" with a coach. There is one at my center too. I just hate it when I get stuck with her. My WI was yesterday and I'm over due for my measurements. I was going to ask for them until I got her. Plus she wrote down the same numbers from last week for my blood pressure without even taking it. And yes, she tries to push all the goods on me too. I will simply ask to see the next available except her next time. I will not pay this kind of money and get treated like that... That said - I'm glad you had a breakthrough. Congrats!

And Congrats to all the other losers. Hang in there those that might be having a hard time. My center always tells me that nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels. Sometimes that helps me overcome a craving...

learning2Bhealthy 08-26-2011 12:50 AM

JenB72- WOW!!! That's great. I can remember how great it feels to be in your shoes. I can't wait to be where you are. It's people like you that helps keep us going. Keep up the great work. :D

tkdtara84- OMG, 5 lbs? Wonderful, I bet you were on cloud 9 for the rest of the day. Last time on MRC I wouldn't weigh until I went to the center and it felt so great to get a loss like that. I LOVE surprises. It's times like that, that keeps us going. Way to go and keep up the hard work.

I think I'm going to ask the consultant tomorrow if there's anyway that I can keep just her as my counselor. I like her a lot. Last time they got so many new ones who were giving us wrong information or just plain didn't know the answers to question and would just guess. Or they were beauties fresh out of high school who's doesn't know what it's like to be big time over weight and you know that no matter what, your body could never look like theirs but they try and tell you that they've lost weight on the program and has had weight issues. I just don't feel comfortable with young women like that. I want one that I know has been down my road and can relate, one that you can laugh with, get to know and be friends with. I want an imperfect counselor, Dang it. LOL!!!

Rzrbackcandi 08-26-2011 09:02 AM

Sorry so many of you are having problems with your centers & counselors. At my center, we can schedule appointments (except on Fridays & Saturdays) to see someone specific. I usually schedule an appointment for Tuesday mornings with the same counselor and then I show up and wait outside Friday mornings, before the center opens, then when I sign in I put that counselors name next to mine. There have been times that she has been busy so I just wait, or if I can't wait, then I put another counselors name down. There is only 1 counselor out of 6 that I don't care for. She is new and acts like she knows everything. Maybe you guys can check with your centers to see if they do this?

I'm going for WI this morning. REALLY praying for a loss. This stalling stuff just stinks! I'll keep you guys posted.

Happy Friday!

raven59 08-26-2011 09:31 AM

Tkdtara84-Glad you are over the impact of the vacation and congrats on the loss. It is amazing that a slip up can derail you for so long isn't it? Seems like I'm an "all or nothing" kinda gal, too and it's just so much better to stay 100% OP.

Rzrbackcandi-good luck on the weigh in. I'm thinking "low number" thoughts for you. Hope you get some positive news cuz stalls are just not fair.

Patzi-I am so impressed with your attention and dedication in maintenance. This is really the key to keeping it off and I'll follow your example when I get there.

For me, this week has been the slippery slope....small off plan choice on Tuesday evening then another on Wednesday evening then another last night...not big calorie binges, but enough to keep me off plan and out of ketosis. I've just been really tired in the evenings and feeling sorry for myself so justify why I should just have that one treat and that one drink before bed. It stops today! I'll be 100% OP through the entire day and night!

It just occured to me that Tuesday was my 6 month anniversary being OP with MRC. In those 6 months, I'm down 41.5 pounds (61.5 pounds since having my daughter) and 50.75 inches! I'm feeling so much better, don't get winded walking through the mall, and can chase after my munchkin. I've went from a size 18 when I gave birth to a size 10 and honestly, those jeans are getting pretty baggy. My blood pressure medicine has went from 11 pills a day after giving birth (I had severe pre-eclampsia) to 3 pills. The doctor may be taking me off more shortly. My eating habits are now becoming a lifestyle change as opposed to a temporary change for a "diet." I'm still trying to learn to love water, but I notice when I don't drink enough, I feel like crap.

If you're a newbie and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, look to our ladies who have made it through and are doing great. Patzi, Junie, Teacherlady, and Hatesthesweatpants have been an inspiration for me and watching them succeed pushed me to stick with it because I knew I would be so much happier for it!

Jen,
Thank you so much! I never thought I would be in the "inspiration" group. It's been such a blessing to make it this far.

You are doing phenomenal! You should be very proud of your progress so far.

patzi 08-26-2011 10:46 AM

I had maintenance weigh in and gained 1/2 pound putting me at 4 1/2 under goal. So the nuts. I experimented with did not work out. I will scratch for another time. That was 1/2 pound weight gain from Tuesday to today, so nuts had to be the culprit.

Candi.
I have seen people request a certain consultant at my center, also. Way to go if one is having a problem, for sure. I wish you a great weigh in. Stalling is the pits. I will check in later to see how you did.

Wishing all a wonderful day, and think thin.

Yah! Plateau seems to be busted!

Well - just got back from WI! I, of course, requested to see Katie today - she's my favorite. When she called me back she said, "Well, did we do it?". I told her I wasn't sure and wanted to WI before we went back to talk.. so we did. DOWN 3lbs!!!:hyper: I am SO excited.

Then we went back to chat and she asked me how this week went for me. I told her I was feeling frustrated because of no weight loss. Then she looks at my chart and says - Candice, you've lost 4lbs in 1 week. I didn't understand what she was talking about - in my head I hadn't lost anything. We made a little timeline and it actually turns out to be 3.5lbs in 1 week because of my .5 gain after vacation. But still! Just because the scale didn't show a loss on Tuesday, I freaked out. So she talked to me about looking at the big picture - not just that weigh in or that week... but how things are overall and how much better I'm looking & feeling since I started. She's the type of consultant that could talk you off the edge of a very tall building and I really appreciate that!

I'm going to continue taking the extra Trace Mineral through tomorrow and switch to berries for lunch going forward. We talked about the apples and how the menu calls for a "small" apple. The ones at the store are usually considered medium-large depending on the type of apple. So no more apples for me!

Anyway - I can finally go change my ticker! With this 3lbs gone, I'm 2.5lbs away from 80!! Hope to be signing that board next week!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Oh - and thank you all for your encouragement! Don't know what I would do without this blog!

I was in the other room with Veronica re-enrolling when I heard...Woooooo Hoooo down 3 lbs. Was that you? My appointment was at 9am this morning. Congratulations on the 3 lbs! That's a big loss. We work so hard to get nothing or a slight gain so it sometimes can be a discouragement but it is always better to look at the big picture. Great Job!!! My favorite is Veronica. I like Katie too!! Do you know if Amy is still there?

Oh my goodness! I saw you this morning! SOOO Cool to have someone going to the same center! Yes, Veronica is one of my favorites as well. When you were in the scale room, I was standing around the corner with Katie waiting to WI. I joined in late March and Amy wasn't there. It's Allison, Katie, Veronia, Shelly, Holly and Victoria. Victoria is the new one.

This morning was funny - Katie said 2.5lbs, we High 5'd then I moved and said WAIT! it's 3! Then moved back and it was 2.5... so I took off my watch and there it was - 3lbs! :D

Now that there is someone nearby, if you need an exercise partner, let me know. I go to World Gym either on J street or Hwy 12 in Bentonville. But when it cools off, would LOVE to go walking out at the Millitary Park or some of the walking trails around here.

How did your re-enroll appt go?

momoffour 08-26-2011 01:58 PM

JenB72 -Your post was such an encouragment to me today and I just wanted to let you know. If I remember correctly we started on the same day and I was really starting to feel fustrated about being so far away from my "goal weight" that I almost lost sight of all the positive changes

A few examples -

Yesterday I spent all day pulling up a pair of shorts that I could barely squeeze into in March (they really need to go in the too big pile)

This week I have gone "running - okay jogging" with each of my kids increasing the distance each day and barely gettnig winded. (this is something I have wanted to do for ages)

Definately need to buy new underpants - same issues as the shorts. . .

I wore a shirt that buttons down the front in public which I could not get my arms into in March.

I am more confident, outgoing, friendly and assertive.

I really wish they had not given me a "goal" because I think I would have been thrilled with 42 lbs and 69 inches in 6 months - - I refused to let the fact that I am not at my goal weight cause me to become negative or defeated. . . it may take longer than I want it to, but the weight will come off!

Candi - Keep up the great work!

Little eddie - sorry you had a rough time with the re-enrollment also sorry you were pressured into a salavia test. I am with Patzi on this one - the consultnats are not physicians, the results of these tests are questionable, most health insurance compaines will pay for the "blood test" versions of these which are more reliable and I personally believe that hormone replacement is nothing to mess with - they hormones are powerful and should only be provided by a NP or an M.D.

Patzi - thanks for all your advise and experience, you keep me going!

Raven - No more slipping and sliding around - you can stay OP . . . it may not be easy, but it is worth it!

Corkkyacker - Sorry you're not clicking - going through something similar . . . for the last 1-1/2 months every time I go in the only available consultant has been the only man on staff. . . He is very nice and I enjoy meeting with him from time to time, but sometimes I really want to talk to one of the ladies. . . I've changed the time I go in so hopefully I can figure out when they are working.

JenB72 08-26-2011 02:50 PM

Tami - First, let me congratulate you on your loss. 2 pounds is a great number! Woohoo! With that said, I must say that I was absolutely shocked by some of the advise your counselor gave you. One of the things that my center stresses (and I've seen others on here say there's does as well) is that you never "reward" yourself with food. It is absolutely self-defeating. Rewarding with food got many of us into the situation we are in. We even have a thread going on here that emphasises non-food rewards. The other part that baffeled me was the idea of having a "cheat" meal...with MRC's blessing. I've never heard of this. The first thing that came to my mind when I read that was, yeah, and even with the Fat & Carb blocker, it will take 3 days to flush out of your system, which will lead to 3 days of slower weight loss, which means 3 more days of program, which means more money for MRC. It just doesn't make sense (or it does from her perspective because that's more money in her pocket). Sorry if I'm being such a downer, but I just wanted to give you another side to the story before you follow her advice. I only want you success for you!!!! You deserve it!!!! As for your vacation, I did bring my scales with me and it totally kept me accountable. I was less inclined to cheat knowing I was getting on the scale the next morning. The other thing was I totally planned ahead of time which restaurants I was going to and what I was going to eat. I barely glanced at the menus. My other suggestion is find a local grocery store or drugstore and buy your water so you'll always have some on hand. Hang in there! :)

Tara - Congrats on 5 pounds! I love everyone's suggestion about requesting a specific counselor. If there is one you're comfortable with, then by all means, you should be able to talk to that person. It's the best way to ensure your success!

Goneforgood1128 - Oh my goodness!!! Thank you for the scale suggestion!!!! I could not remember who had suggested it to thank them, but that's what I did last week on my trip. It made all the difference in the world!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!!

Patzi - I'm so sorry the nuts didn't work out for you. I admire your diligence in trying to figure out what works for you.

Fluffy in Florida - I am so happy for you!!!! That's a lot of inches to lose!!!! I just know you'll be signing that 10 pound board next week. :D

raven59 - Hope you're having a great OP day today! I know you can do it. It's just the start!

Junie - You are definitely an inspiration! I hope your skinny self sticks around with us. We need all the motivation we can get. :p

Candi - Woohoo!!! Candi's about to have a new avatar!!!! ;) And it looks like you may just hit your August goal. That's awesome!!!!!!

learning2Bhealthy -I agree with you about the small gains or no gains. That's why I love this board so much. It's easy to fall into old patterns, but these ladies motivate me to stick with it. :)

momoffour - February 23, right? :) Think about how far we've come! What's 6 or 12 months of going through this if we can learn to keep it off and maintain our losses?! Crazy as it sounds, part of me is going to miss this journey when I hit my goal weight. I know, absolutely crazy, but it's becoming such a way of life, I don't know what I'm going to do when I'm done. LOL

Hope everyone else is having a great day!!!!

stone3973 08-26-2011 03:19 PM

Wow it's not a good idea to miss days of not reading post. I have been trying to catch up but I am exhausted.

We took our youngest son to college yesterday, a few tears were shed but I tried not to let him see me upset. He was so excited for his time now. My daughters turn is next year and my oldest son is planning on getting married next June so empty nest is moving to fast for me.

Anyway I weighed in today and I lost 4 pounds!!! I was determined for the 3 pound gain Tues. to not get me down. This summer I have not been good just maintaining and playing with the scales and finally got me last Tues. So I am happy with the 4 and now I am determined!!!

My goal is to follow the program. I have trouble setting goals for myself, like if I say I want to lose 15 pounds by a certain date I never make it. I will make it a week later. So my goal is to JUST STAY ON PROGRAM.

Also my center is not pushy. We have never taken a salvia test nor has it ever been mentioned. The consultants will suggest stuff but never push. They even have HNS samples to try on Friday. Today they mixed the powered vanilla shake with lemon HNS and it taste just like lemon ice box pie. Very tasty

Jen you r a great example. I am so ready to see the 50's

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

coarkkayaker 08-26-2011 04:26 PM

I have to share an amazing experience I had last night. I needed a new suit for an upcoming job interview. So I went to the mall (I hate shopping, but the mall -to me- is the worst). Anyway - long story short and to the point. I had an associate helping me and I grabbed the size I thought I should try (a med) and then when I came out from trying it on, I told her that I thought maybe I should try the next size down cause the med was a little big. She said to me...ready for this?..."I thought you might need a small". :D Oh - that made my day! But I still hate shopping.

Stone...yesterday when I went to the center they had a food sampling. They made the rootbeer float OMG was it good. Just rootbeer and a vanilla creme pudding

And it's not that bulky of a watch! Next time, I'm taking off my watch, bracelet & glasses :D

coarkkayaker - What an amazing feeling that must have been! Congrats and keep up the great work!

Tami - JenB is right in everything she said. I can't imagine rewarding my weight loss with an off program meal. There are so many other things out there you can do as rewards, food shouldn't be one of them.

Mariah - Keep up the great work! That's exactly what my consultant was talking about today when I told her I was so frustrated for not losing. She sat with me for about 45minutes talking about how far I've come and asking me about how I felt before program and everything I've accomplished. It's easy to lose site of the overall picture when something doesn't go your way.

Ok - I'm off to the gym! Tomorrow night is Def Leppard in Kansas City!! Can't wait! I will probably post pics Sunday night or Monday morning.

AmandaR78 08-26-2011 06:34 PM

Wow so exciting to read all the posts! I cant wait until the day to try on a smaller size...I haven't attempted yet. My second WI this week I was down 1.5lb which is 2.5lb for the wk and 9lb total since precond on Aug 8th. I don't notice a huge difference yet... I keep saying when I hit 20... Maybe I will?

My center is having a recipe swap and I am anxious to go to get ideas. I would love to mix things up a bit and use the basil n tomato for cooking...any ideas much appreciated. Thx:dizzy:

Tamikl 08-26-2011 07:09 PM

Hi ladies....

I appreciate the advice and also the fact that using food as a "reward" should not occur. The dynamics of what was going on at the time are the reasoning for this logic. I was having a melt down. I was pissed at trying so hard all the time, and frustrated with the fact that I would travel out of town and have to pack a "salad" or something, while others I was with were going out to lunch. Feeling sorry for myself in this journey has led to poor choices with food. Her "permission" to let loose (within reason of course) turned my attitude around. That is all. I do believe we did this for my benefit...not to sabbatage my efforts. (She knew I would do it anyway...it is a mental game, ladies. That is all :) Seems to be working for me.

I have to be realistic with my approach to permanent weight loss and lifestyle change. I simply am not at a place that I have told myself "never again will I have anything not on MRC menus." That is not where I am yet...what I can commit to is "one day at a time" to make good choices. We are all paying a fortune for the program....I truly don't intend to waste it, and do believe that my counselor wants me to succeed.

At the moment...an ice cream cone with my family is a reward for me...if I lose 2+lbs in a week, I justify that sort of a treat....and maybe it is wrong, but it makes me work hard throughout the week so I can have it!! LOL

[QUOTE=AmandaR78;4008548]. I don't notice a huge difference yet... I keep saying when I hit 20... Maybe I will? [QUOTE]

Your stats are almost exactly the same as mine. I started this time at 196.5. I went down a size after 15 lbs., and probably in another 5 (25 lbs.), I will be down another. You should be able to tell a difference shortly. The closer you get to goal, the smaller the increments of weight you have to lose to lose a size. In about 15 lbs. I'll be at my pre-pregnancy weight, and I'll be able to wear all of my old clothes again (I can wear about a third even now). I can't wait!!

Tamikl-- FWIW, I understand how you feel. Some people doing MRC are very rigid and rarely or never go off plan. They get there faster, for sure. However, you need to make this work for you. If that entails a food reward, then in my book, so be it. The key is that you have to be honest with yourself, and that is tough to do sometimes.

Last time I did MRC, I stayed perfectly OP for the first month, then I started cheating once or twice a month, and then later it evolved into a weekly or even 2-3 times/week thing. Toward the end was when things slowed way down for me, of course. The problem with me was that I wasn't really owning up to how much cheating I was doing, and looking back at my online journal, it was a LOT! I know this isn't what you're talking about...yet. I'm just saying be careful and keep tabs on yourself so you do better than I did. If this is what keeps you from throwing yourself a pity party, getting mad, and cheating anyway, then do this until it stops working for you. It will be slower, but I'm more like you-- there are times when slower is worth it to me. You're going about it the right way, though-- I think (and one of my counselors agrees) that if you're going to cheat, then think it through, make a decision, and own it. At least that way you'll have to accept that WL will be slower.

There isn't only one way to lose weight. I believe that most diets work-- if you follow them. We all just have to find the approach taht works best for each of us because we're all different. If this is how you decide to go about it, and it works for you, then don't feel guilty about it at all.

Thank you...your words of wisdom ring very true for me. The speed at which my weight comes off is up to me..and I get that~For the process to last, I need to tweek it to keep myself motivated. Being strict with myself contantly doesn't work real well. I think we need to give ourselves permission sometimes to take this journey in stride, rather than petal to the metal and get burnt out...that's all. I would rather go slow and keep going, then go real fast and rebound from being resentful of all I have to sacrifice to get there....if that makes sense :)

Hi, all. Sorry I haven't been around. Our home computer has been acting up and I can't get on at work.

"Yay" to all the losers and "hang in there" to those who've had a rough go!

I'm at 20.5 down. My loss has slowed down a bit, but my center is running a special on MetaBoost and I have an appointment on Monday to find out more about it.

thanks for the advice, Jen

Cute as a button, but, oh my! Drama city if she doesn't get her way. ;) Good luck tomorrow and let us know how it goes.

Bigdog - As crazy as this may sound, is there another center in your area you can transfer to instead? It seems like this center may not be the one for you. I wish you could have the same experience that many of us have. My center, for example, is not pushy at all when it comes to drinks, supplements, etc. They let you know what's there, but, the decision is yours. They are wonderful and truely supportive. In today's economy, they need to understand that for many, money is tight.

momoffour - Good luck tomorrow with your weigh in. You garden sounds delicious!!!!

Raven59 - Scales can definitely mess with your head. I use it to keep me accountable. For me, the fluctuations help keep me on track. One day, I may do great, totally, completely, OP and then the next day, it may post a slight gain. Keeps me from getting too cocky, if you know what I mean. LOL That's why I trust my clothes more. The more loose they feel, even during a plateau, is what I go by. The clothes don't lie! :)

Thanks for all the positive feedback, everyone!!! I'm hanging in there today, but in a complete funk. For the past 2 years, I've had the luxury of always having a family member look after my daughter. Yesterday was her first day of day care because family care is no longer possible and it's just tearing me up. She was crying for me when I left and I was in tears on the way to work. I hope it gets better, because I don't think either one of us can take more days like this.

Thanks, Jen, i'm still getting the hang of posting on these sites and didn't know how to check replies! :-) i ended up talking to the manager and now they are cool about not pushing me.. i just avoid the one girl that is extremely pushy - like a walking billboard!! i just talk to the one counselor that is cool- i felt bad because last week, he was sharing some recipes w/ me from their book and told me if i wanted i could buy it online! i will spend $15 on the book :-)from the MRC center. the different food choices will make me stay on this plan. i'm on the Meta-Slim diet and had two eggs cooked w/ Pam, lite wheat cinnamon toast (spray butter and cinnamon)- i havent' eaten cinnamon toast since i was a kid! and it was like dessert. my husband and i are eating more fresh veggies, trying out diff. dressings. i just love it!!! thanks for your advice - i love this website!

Well, I'm back from my re-enroll. Let me list the ways it was a disappointment.

First of all, it only took 15 minutes. I'm experiencing a sort of "the money's on the dresser you were fantastic be sure to lock the door on your way out kind of feeling."

Second, the "special" for re-enrollees was the same price I paid when I origninally enrolled a few years ago and more than when I had to add on 10 weeks once. I had to buy 20 weeks when I thought 10 was sufficient.

Third, the saliva test is mandatory. I may complete it, but I will not take advice on hormone treatment from a nonmedical person. As I mentioned to them, I'm already taking Provera for heavy periods and am monitored my by gyne for that.

Fourth, they were giving away free gifts and I wanted a pink tote bag and they gave me my millionth aluminum water bottle instead (sob). AND they WOULDN'T LET ME SWITCH!
Okay, a little melodrama with that but geezopete, really?

Fifth, they put me on preconditioning which I understand since I pigged out on Chinese and chocolate cake last night but I wanted to go right for the new menu.

Sixth, they told me to skip the food instruction class and just show up in a week to get my menu and supplements. I may show up anyway.

Seventh, I weighted MUCH more on their scale after lunch and not first thing in the morning before breakfast and all naked like on mine.

Okay, thanks for reading all this.

On the plus side, they thought 145 pounds was totally "doable" for me in my twenty weeks.

Another plus-I am going to be held accountable once or twice a week by someone besides myself.

Third, I will get measured regularly and I love to lose inches.

Fourth, I will get more emotional support than I get at home when I lose.

Sixth, I will have more choice in my supplements by going to the center. Now I order from Diet Direct and watch the poor Fed Ex man cower in his truck as my outdoor dogs bark and snarl at him. I'm getting tired of rescuing him from my four pound dogs and want to suggest to him that he needs therapy if he wants to continue delivering packages and is frightened by toy dogs.

So really, I'm excited and can't wait for pre-conditioning to be over. And I have defined my weight goal instead "just seeing what happens".

So here I go again.

you are too funny!! good luck!!! i had to take the saliva test and when they were talking about all the supplements that i should be taking when they got the results back (hmmm...like $300 a month's worth!) i told them i felt great, loved the diet, was losing and i'd take the results to my doctor and see what she had to say about it. they never mentioned a word to me after that!!! BTW, my doc said my levels were exactly where they should be and she actually did believe in the saliva test. the girl at the center said alot of docs don't believe in saliva tests. the plan is great and if you can avoid some of the BS, it's good.

ginpea 08-27-2011 02:30 PM

Well hello there, 160s! Haven't seen you in several years!

Just got back from my weekly weigh-in. I'm down three pounds for the week, which makes me super happy since I only lost .5 last week! I'm only one pound away from signing the 20 pound board. I'm also down 26.5 inches. :carrot:

Tami - I completely understand where you're coming from. I allow myself one full fledged cheat a month (and I've told my center this)... if it wasn't for that monthly cheat, there's no way I could stick to this diet. Truly, I don't think I'll ever reach a point where I can say that I'll eat strictly from the MRC menu for the rest of my life and I don't intend to. What I do intend to do, though, is eat healthy most of the time, with occasional (maybe once a week) treats of "normal" food. (Don't know what else to call it.) This is after I've met my goal and gone through stabilization and maintenance.

The best thing I've been told by two different consultants is, "As long as you're still losing, then it seems to be working for you."

RE: Centers & Consultants - The saliva test was not mandatory at our clinic. I'd asked in the beginning if we could make appointments and ask for certain consultants when we come in and was told no. There are two consultants at my clinic that when I walk in and see them, I think to myself, "Please don't let them call my name, please don't let them call my name.." One of them is a way over-cocky guy who uses ridiculous phrases. For example, I handed him my food journal one day, and at the top, had written out my daily supplements and he looked at me and said, "I love that you wrote out your supplements like this, that rocks my face off." He sings real loud, like he's waiting for us to break into applause and praise. Overall, he's just too much. Then there's a girl that I haven't had to go back with yet, but I've seen enough to know that she also has an obnoxious personality. My friend and sister-in-law have had unpleasant dealings with her as well. I know it's just a matter of time before she calls me back.

I tried two new things this week that I loved and plan to make a regular part of my menu. Portabello mushroom caps with spicy Mrs Dash, melted mozarella cheese, and green onions. The other thing was spaghetti squash with salt-free tomato sauce (I added McCormich garlic & herb and basil to and it was great), topped with mozarella cheese and green onion. I know tomato sauce isn't on my menu, but I didn't get scolded for it when I took my food journal in today. :^:

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Hi everyone, I'm back. I've been MIA for a few weeks since vacation and it will take me a little time to catch up with all the new news. I haven't been following the plan as well lately, so I'm back here to keep my focus. I'm down 20 lbs now, so I've still been loosing, just a little slower.

On another note, a good friend gave me a ton of fresh veggies from her garden including the monster pictured below (with my daughter). Anyone have any good ideas on how to prepare diet friendly zucchini?

On a side note, as if turning 40 wasn't bad enough, for me it's happening on Friday the 13th! January, to be exact. I've already told hubby I'm taking that day off from work. ;)

thanks Jen for all your wonderful advice. still getting the hang of finding my messages posted and the replies :-) love this board!! you guys are very motivating - i've done Wt. watchers for over 20 years, lose and gain back the same 20 lbs. now have 38 to lose!! this program really works! love the food suggestions and motivating tips. thks, Peggy

Well, not a perfect OP day for me...a setback at "Fazoli's" tonight for dinner. Even though my choice wasn't a bad one, it still wasn't OP....so now I will likely get to regret it for a time.

Somedays....it is just hard:(

I have noticed a few of you have mentioned "not being able to only eat MRC foods for the rest of your lives". . . and I thought I would share my perspective. . .

First the strict food sheets are only for a short time (during your weight loss) not for the rest of your life. As you enter stabilization and maintenence many of these foods will come back . . . This has helped me many times when I have wanted to go off program . . . Am I really going to let an icecream cone, mashed potatoes, or sweet corn slow down my weight loss and cost me more $?

Unfortunately sometimes the answer has been "Yes" but most of the time I decided that I can go without any food for 6-12 months - the stores will still sell icecream after I reach my goal in a few months . . . I can buy fresh sweet corn and freeze it to be enjoyed once I am at my goal weight. . . etc.

I think it is a very slippery slope to start "cheating" on purpose . . . I did have one counselor suggest that if there is something that you are just craving and can't get out of your mind - you could enjoy 2 bites of that food. She quoted some scientific studies that show that the first 2 bites you take are the most flavorful and enjoyable and after that you are just eating to eat.

That said - this is your program, you are in charge and you can do whatever you want to! When I first started I acted as though I was a victum of the plan - "I can't eat what I want" " why can't I have my fruit at dinner" etc. until I realized that I CAN do anything I want to - but the results will be the same as they have always been. . . (me fat) . . . I paid a lot of money for MRC's expertise and I am choosing to follow their advise because they have succeeded in losing weight and keeping it off and I do not know how to do this on my own.

Just my thoughts and I hope it does not hurt anyone's feelings - I am finding every day that I am capable of doing many things that I did not think I could (like running with my 13-year-old son) - I just have to make up my mind to do it.

WI this morning and I was down 1.5! I was so excited. That's a total of 15 for me. I have been trying hard to stay on program but things are getting harder. I'm back to work now and I need to get into the schedule of the day and see how MRC works with it. I've talked to my counselors and they are helping figure out the best way to get all my HNS in for the day. I'm going to start skipping the one at lunch and having it as a snack before dinner. We'll see how things work.

Congrats to all the losers.

So...I'm off the program. I found out this morning that I'm pregnant. I'm a little sad because I really wanted to wait a couple more months and lose more weight, but apparently my body was ready! I'm going to work really hard to stick to sort of a pre-conditioning menu throughout my pregnancy. The protein at every meal, lots of veggies and fruit, and limited carbs will really help me have a healthy pregnancy! I look forward to joining you all again next summer. :-)

That's so funny about your watch. Last time, I brought some really light weigh-in clothes and I'd go change in them before I weighed. It was nice to see those weigh-in clothes get so big that I had to hold the pants on. :D

My appointment went very well. $99.00 for 17 weeks is all it was. I was expecting it to be more so I am very happy with that. They didn't even ask me to do the saliva test. She told me to sign this paper and when I asked what it was she said it's just to show that she offered it but she really didn't. ;)
I felt it was really rushed. I had some questions to ask but didn't get the chance to ask them. I have 17 weeks to ask though. LOL

Our center allows us to choose a counselor? I never knew that.

Walking would be great. Do you work during the day?
Hope you had a blast at your concert and hope everything went well.

Last time I didn't go off plan not 1 time. I only ate out at subway getting their salad with the roasted chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and bell pepper with olive oil and vinegar. I didn't teach myself how to deal with those types of situations. If I was invited over to a friends house to eat I'd bring my OP food. I think it was the wrong thing to do because I need to learn/teach myself how to make the best choices. I need to learn/teach myself that if I fall I need to get right back OP the next meal. I was afraid because I'm an all or nothing type and I avoided those situations because I figured if I went off plan I wouldn't get back on. Which is what happened once I hit stabilization. This time I have to put myself in situations like that so that I can change the way I am toward food.

learning2Bhealthy 08-28-2011 07:05 AM

Hi All, I was wondering if it's worth it to buy the MRC cookbook? I didn't last time. We have a really good recipe Thread here so I just never bothered. What are your opinions on it?

Thanks :D

Goneforgood1128 08-28-2011 09:01 AM

LetHerOut-CONGRATULATIONS! That is exciting news! Even if you didn't get to lose all the weight you wanted to, at least you have already learned some much healthier eating habits that will help you and your baby throughout your pregnancy!

New to MRC

Hi all,
I'm relatively new to MRC--started pre-conditioning on August 9. I've been stalking this forum for about a week and decided to post. My last WI was Thursday, and I got to sign the 10lb board! I've lost 13 lbs, which makes the HNS go down much more smoothly!

This is so true. I think attitude is everything in this. It makes a big difference in most things in life, too, but I definitely notice a difference in how "easy" the program is depending on how good or bad my attitude is. I'm trying to stay conscious of my thought patterns about food/diet this time, and most of the time, it helps a lot!

Congratulations! Last time I had to stop for a pregnancy when I was about 15 lbs. away from my goal. Make sure you talk to your doctor about your plans. Babies brains need carbs (they don't need donuts and cookie carbs, though ;) ) so just make sure your plan includes enough healthy carbs. Even if you're not on MRC per se, you will still lose fat if you're eating healthier and staying away from the processed sugary/fatty foods we used to eat. It's healthy to lose a little weight even while pregnant as long as you're doing it the right way. Again, talk to your doctor, though, about whatever you decide to do.

Oh, and the only other "advice" I have to give-- don't wait too long after the birth to start doing something about it again. I started when my baby was just under a year, and I wish I had started sooner. I also started with a calorie counting/ WW approach, and I didn't accomplish nearly as much as I did with MRC. I had a few breastfeeding issues and didn't want to diet much, but MRC has a nursing plan if you decide to nurse, so I really should have gone back earlier. I just didn't want to give up all the unhealthy food I was eating. :o Good luck with your pregnancy!

Well, you are so very right :) I am a non-smoker now, but when I was in the beginnings of that journey, mind set was everything. When I felt sorry for myself, and I had to tell myself that I can smoke at any time....just choosing not to! It worked for that and it is the same with this....problem is that smoking is gone for good...we have to eat, so food is always an issue:)

We need to be strict with ourselves while we are losing....very true. Ice cream will still be there, but the difference is that we will be lighter!!!

Thank you so much for the "eye opener." MRC isn't doing anything to me...I am choosing to do something for myself with their help!!
