Medi Chat - Jan. 8 to later on

Let's try a weekly chat as our thread was becoming too long. If we get too chatty, we may go to a daily!

I'm still trying hard to stay OP. Just ran out of bars yesterday and have an all morning appointment. I guess I'll lug along a shake.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

freiamaya 01-08-2008 07:34 AM

Hi Ruthee!
Sounds like you have alot on your plate! I don't envy that.
Surgery is upcoming??? Let us know how things are going.
Maya
:)

Ruthxxx 01-08-2008 08:00 AM

 at Maya and those to come.

It's really foggy out there. I hope to heck I can find Brockville for my appointment. The appointment is with the anaesthetist who will do his thing for the knee replacement event on the 24th. I'm hoping he does an epidural in lieu of a general anaesthetic - easier on the body.

Hey! I forget who suggested soaking stuff - you Maya? - but I soaked chicken noodle soup overnight and had it for breakfast. It was yummy! I may use that method to re-try oatmeal.

Later today I may get a chance to try the vanilla shake cookies posted in recipes. I'll let you know how they turn out. They could be great for breakfast. It's so decadent to have cookies for breakfast! And I love decadence!

Gotta dash.

SweetP 01-08-2008 10:19 AM

Maya - I hope you don't mind but I wanted to move this response forward from the other thread - I think it is SO important for everyone to read :) I couldn't use the "quote" button since the thread was closed.

"You're being stupid and the weight will fall off (but not all of it tomorrow!
hahahaha!
You aren't being stupid. This WILL work and it IS worth it, and tomorrow I will post my shopping experience, so that you KNOW that it will be worth it and if you stick with it 100% for 3 months, you will wonder why you didn't do this before, and STAY OFF THE SCALE except for once a week or else you will go bananas (mmmmm BANANAS...), and hang IN there...

Maya"

SweetP 01-08-2008 10:20 AM

Ruth - Have a great day!!! :)

Reposting my last message

Michelle U probably lost a bunch of weight! Not gaining any weight while you are on your period is AMAZING since we usually tend to retain water... I bet once it is over, you will see a huge drop on the scale!!! No matter what, I am proud of you! It is so hard to stay on track when you are in pain and all the bad and greasy foods are calling your name... But you, my friend decided to nip it in the butt and stay on plan!!! That's worth :carrot::carrot::carrot: and !

I just ordered some of the walden farms products to take advantage of their coupon (buy one get one free --- up to 5). I will let you know how their products taste once i receive them...

Today is my day 4 and i STILL haven't cheated!!! I have been on plan 100%. I am not sure if i am in ketosis but i have been feeling great the whole time... It is a lot easier than the last time I was on the plan... I think that something clicked in me and i am no longer interested in the bad food right now... I am really enjoying experimenting in the kitchen and my wendy's like ice cream is still one of my favorite treat. Tonight I cooked dilly biscuits and it tastes amazing! I put the recipes on the sticky note for you all to try it... I hope you enjoy them because both recipes are Yummy!!! It will definitely make it easier for me to stick to the diet, especially when i need a bread/biscuit feeling! I have tried some other recipes and a few were disgusting, so i am only posting the ones that i absolutely love and would recommend to anyone! If you'all have recipes, please share them with us --- or if noone is interested, heck, share them with me !

Anyone know where i can find the True Lemon Powder and the Flax Seed Meal? Are they available a walmart? Albertson's? If so, which sections?

I also weighed myself and so far i have lost 4.6lbs in 4 days and i have so much energy! I love it! It probably is mostly water weight, but I am so glad to see the numbers go down on the scale and the doors of Onederland getting closer and slowly opening!

I hope you all are fine! If you need any support I will be glad to help!

Florence

Maya
Ah, yes! 'Twere it that easy. I am drawn to my scale like a magnet!
I cannot believe I'm starting day 5! I am so happy with this program. I find that I am settling into a nice routine. It's not as scary as it was in the beginning when I had no idea what the food was going to taste like and I didn't know if I'd be able to stick with it. I never thought I could do a diet like this! When my doctor suggested medifast I thought there is no way I can do that but it has been so much easier than I anticipated! My weigh in is Sunday so even though I'm weighing myself daily (I'm trying to stop, really I am!) I will track my weight on Sundays.

Have a great day everybody! :carrot:

I get my ground flaxseed (flax seed meal) at my local grocery store in the baking supply or natural foods isle. Health/natural food stores would carry it too. You can also buy it online...Bob's Red Mill has a nice one. Be sure to keep it in the fridge or freezer as it will go rancid.

True Lemon/True Lime/True Orange can be found in some grocery stores where the splenda is. I don't know why they put it there. Don't know where you live but I also get mine at The Christmas Tree Shop in the food section. The truelemon.com website has a store locator & you can also order direct from them.

I would just ask for both at your local grocery store.

freiamaya 01-08-2008 12:34 PM

OK, as promised, here is my SHOPPING EXPERIENCE the other day at the mall.
Now, I HATE shopping in "regular people's" stores, because I just don't belong there. I can't fit anything. I see all these 24-yr-old size ZEROS out there, and the sizes only go up to 12 and sometimes 14 and rarely a 16 and if you are LUCKY, an 18. But not very often. There MIGHT be an XL there, but gosh darn it, how DEPRESSING NOT to fit an XL.
BUT, I think I'll give it a try. After all, I've lost on this diet, and how physically big can I really be at 5'7" and 172lbs.
Keep in mind, all that at one time not so long ago, I was a size 20-22 and my highest recorded weight was 243lbs.
SO, I go to Addition-Elle and check out the clothes. I feel great there, because I am now an X or 1X, I think. I try on some jeans, and start with an 18. Then a 16. Then a 14. And they don't FIT. I AM TOO SMALL.
What the...??? They don't FIT???
So I head over to a regular store, and figure, well, I'll start here at size 18 because seriously, vanity sizing DOES exist, so maybe in a regular store, I'll be back in my normal size of 18 because lets FACE it, I'm in my own mind, completely HUMONGOUS.
So, I try an 18. Then a 14. Then a 12.
THE 12 FITS. And fits NICELY.
So I push my luck.
THE 10 FITS. A bit SNUG, but I don't have to lie down on my back and suck in my gut to zip it up thus creating the world's largest muffin top! And no camel toe, either! (hahahaha!)
SO I BUY THEM. After doing my happy dance.
I then head over to pick up a dress for a warm vacation I am going on. I find a beautiful one which is one of those gauzy, floaty ones that slips on, with no zippers or anything.
Again, I try an 18. Then a 16. Then a 14. Then a 12. The 12 is fine, but these are supposed to be loose, right?
I think -- let's just push the envelope.
I try a 10. IT FITS!!! O. M. G. IT FITS!!!
So I think -- keep pushing the envelope.
I try the SMALLEST one they have in stock, which is a SIZE. 8.
THE GD THING FITS!!!! IT LOOKS NICE!!!!!
SO I BUY IT. After doing my happy dance.
WHAT. A. DAY.
And this will happen to you guys, too -- just keep at it!
Maya
:)

Andrea and Florence - You guys are doing great!!! :carrot:

Maya - What a wonderful experience !!! :D

Just found out my DH lost his job...uggg...it took him 4 months to find it after we moved. Now they say they will help him find something else but I think they say that so you can't file unemployment. :(

Ruthxxx 01-08-2008 01:16 PM

So sorry to hear that, SweetP. I gave you an avatar to suit your name. I hope that makes you feel better. :grouphug:

Maya, what a great shopping trip that was. When do you go for your "hot place" vacation? Will you be a size 0 by then?

 at Andie, Flo and Sue. I'm so glad this is working for you. Please breathe some :dust: on me, OK?

I had a great appointment with the admitting nurse and my anaesthetist this morning and now know exactly what will happen on the 24th when I get my bionic knee. I plan to be in ONEderland by then and will do the darned exercises they gave me. Just think! By Spring, I'll be able to walk around the village with my dog and maybe a new puppy!

Chili that's soaked for the morning is much improved too! I may go back to oatmeal next order.

freiamaya 01-08-2008 01:19 PM

Sweet P --
Ruthie! Sounds AWESOME, and I know your sugery will go just fine, too.
Later, all

mkbhanna 01-08-2008 03:52 PM

Hey guys

Can I come back? ;) I tried so hard to start again last week....twice even but I just couldn't do it. It was a very stressful few days at work (I'll put more details in another post) when I got back after the New Year and it was just impossible. Then, I tried again Saturday and that night started to get a cold. I was so ready to throw in the towel, really I was. I emailed MF and asked them to cancel my order but apparently they didn't get it in time so I got a shipping email yesterday. So, what to do? Do I just send it back or give it another go? Back in December when I stuck to it for several days, I really did feel better.

So, here's the decision. Tomorrow is another day (I am from The South you know). I think it's a "sign" that the new box is on it's away and I have about a week's worth at home. Maya, can you send me some of that willpower? I loved your story about the dress - it's very inspiring.

Things are looking up - the situation at work is resolved in a way that is very positive for me, daughter #1 was admitted to the "gifted" (I hate that term) program at school yesterday w/o the struggle I had been fearing, and daughter #2 was approved today for her vision therapy. Life is good, I can do this.

I'm going to do it this time. There's nothing coming up that will knock me off. I can do it....I can do it....:carrot:

Maria

freiamaya 01-08-2008 05:14 PM

You know, Ms MK, JUST decide to give it 100% JUST for one month. Be ON PLAN JUST for 28 days -- that'll let you evaluate the program and how it works for you. It IS tough and it IS challenging, but for JUST 27 sleeps, give it a shot. See what happens! And at the end of the 28 days, you'll have the satisfaction of just. sticking. to. it. You don't have to do it forever, but see how it goes.
IF you go 100% On Plan No Excuses No Cheats Really REALLY 100% On PLAN I'll bet that you'll be down to 188 lbs or so. Think how great THAT would feel.
But this will ONLY happen if you go for it. You don't have to WANT to do it to just do it.
Think of it like a diabetic thinks of insulin -- they probably don't WANT to test their sugar levels, they probably don't WANT to inject insulin, but they HAVE to and they DO it without obsessing about it or feeling like it. They just do it. And for 28 days, you too can just do this.
Let us know how things go!
We all love ya!
Maya
:)
p.s. yippee on the kiddie front! Awesome!

abovethedin 01-08-2008 05:48 PM

I group,

I have a question and I want to be as delicate as possible. Does anyone have any issues with being "regular"? I am not normally and I can go as long as 7 days. I really don't like this. What I am trying to find out is this, do you think it is ok to have a laxative, or maybe add something like Benifiber to my water? Oh, and even eating salad doesn't do a think. Thanks for all your help.

I use FiberSure in shakes/soups at least once a day. I preferred it to Benefiber (personal choice). You could try them & see which one works best for you.

Be sure to count the extra carbs it adds...those pesky carbs can sneak up on you & put you over your limit.

freiamaya 01-08-2008 07:35 PM

Ah, the regularity issue!
Well, first of all, if you use Benefiber or stirrable fiber, there are carb additives to it, so you need to count those carbs.
BUT, if you use something like psyllium husks in capsule form, you don't because although there is a carb count, you will not absorb these carbs because they are the kind of fiber that your body doesn't digest. So, what I do is take a dose of psyllium in the am and again in the pm for 3 or 4 consecutive days each week. Keeps me "regular" and smiley!!!
Hope this helps,
Maya
:)

mkbhanna 01-08-2008 07:47 PM

Fiber

I take the Metamucil caplets if I haven't had a trip in a couple of days and then take until I'm feeling normal again. It works great for me and it has the psyllium Maya mentioned.

mkbhanna 01-08-2008 08:04 PM

Job woes

Okay, I'm home now so I'll talk about the job issue and it's going to be long. Just skip it if you don't want to read it - I just need to vent to people who are separate from the situation and get their input. I'm tough - I can take it.

I work for a medium size engineering firm that was started by a man several years ago. The man died tragically fairly young and his wife took over but depended on several of the men in the company to really run it for her. I came on 8 years ago as only the 2nd female engineer ever hired by the company. My father was a senior engineer in the firm and my brother was and still is a manager and my boss (no issues there....most of the time ;) ). The VP over our division was an older, very traditional (sexist) man who tried G*d bless him but didn't succeed to accept women in the business. He kept tight control over salaries and the managers never saw them. We thought there might be some equal pay issues but could never prove it. We did know that we were being paid fairly for the market we're in and that the company offered a lot of flexibility which was good for working mothers. So, last summer the VP retired and another much younger, sensible man replaced him. In December I got an unexpected increase (mine wasn't due until June) and when I asked about it was told I deserved it and that they were trying to even things out some. Last week I was doing some extra budget work for them and suddenly, although I saw no rates, it was VERY obvious how much of a discrepancy there was between the men and the two women. I was LIVID - I went to my brother who called the VP who told him they would have to make it up in little jumps like the one in December. Nope, I threatened a lawsuit and immediately got a 20% increase! Oh my goodness, what my family could have been doing with that money for the last 8 years (my husband works in a different field and makes half my salary BEFORE the increase). The 20% puts me with the males I am comperable with but I'm still wondering if I should fight for backpay. I really enjoy what I do and the people I work with.

So ladies (I think you all are ladies) - what would you do? Would you fight it or be happy with the 20%? I don't want to make them angry - they've taken my threats well so far....almost as if they were expecting it eventually...hmmmm.....but would I be pushing it too far? At this point I think I'll just sit on my winnings and keep doing a good job for them but like I said I am interested in hearing impartial judges.

Oh wait, let me add something MFy so the post will be legal. :D Hmmmm.....I hate that tomato soup. I'll never order it again. I can't see anyway I can make it palatable.

Have a wonderful evening!

Maria

Stressful household I am afraid, but keeping myself together :)

purplepansy912 01-08-2008 09:05 PM

job issues! yuck... yikes..! sorry you are having trouble.. good luck with that!

my medifast day.. hmmm well..
I had ate two choc/mint bars. Yes two. I was starving and I just did it...
other than that I'm ok.. I ordered a grilled chix salad for dinner and tossed out the oranges in them... I'm drinking herbal tea now...and reminding myself at how full I am.. ( eyeroll)..
everyone keep shakin~

freiamaya 01-08-2008 09:20 PM

Hmmmm...Ethical question...I absolutely understand your aggravation and your rage at the situation. But we need to take emotion out of the equation.
I think you can ask yourself some questions to clarify the situation:
1. Are you willing to leave your job over this voluntarily?
2. Are you OK with getting fired and looking for a new job?
3. Are you going to be looking in any case for a new job in the future?
4. Do you want the references that an amicable parting would bring?
5. Is not getting back-pay a deal breaker for you with respect to you staying there?
Personally, it is easy for me to sit here and tell you to FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT or to tell you to SUCK IT UP, because I don't have to live your reality and I don't have to live in the aftermath of your decision.
What I WILL say is that if I wasn't prepared to leave my job (either voluntarily or involuntarily) and live on my DH's salary while looking for another job (either with or without a good reference) then I would be happy with the raise because the injustice has been rectified.

mkb,
Wow. I don't know what others think, but I'm a big weenie. I would let it be and enjoy my job with people I like. But, again, I'm a weenie.

SweetP,
Thank you for copying the post in which Maya calls me stupid!!!!! Bad SweetP!! :p I'm SO SORRY about your husband!! What does type of job does he do? Can he get unemployment?? What a crappy thing at a crappy time of year!

The cravings went away thank goodness! I wanted NOTHING more than to gorge! Still didn't lose an ounce. Hello, my name is Michelle and I'm a scale-aholic....:o

I hope everyone has a wonderful MFing Wednesday.

Floprieto 01-08-2008 09:40 PM

Maya: Thank you so much for sharing your shopping experience with us... It is extremely motivating! Could you throw some numbers for us? Like how many pounds have you lost in the last three months... I think that we are about the same height wise... Just trying to see if i could be in your shoes in 3 months ;)

SweetP: Sorry to hear about your husband... But i am sure another door will open and that it will be way better:D

Maria: Sucks to hear about your job's problem. I am glad that you got your raise... Just like Maya, I would be cautious, because even though you rightfully deserve back pay, pushing the issue might get you in trouble and could start a hidden war of getting rid of you...

Sue: Thanks for the info :) You are as always very helpful:hug:

Andie Mom: I thought we started the same day... didn't you start on Friday, January 4th? I was thinking about moving my weigh in day to saturday... I have been weighing myself everyday also but i am not worrying about it... I know that it is normal for my weight to not drop on some days and stays the same... So far I have lost 4.6 pounds (Day 5)... what's about you?

Ruth: I will blow as much will power as you want ;) I know you have it in you!!! You already have lost quite a few pounds! Our weights are very similar right now! I know that we can do this!!! I would love to cross the Onederland gate with you;) We are so close to it now ...:carrot::carrot::carrot:

belleamiee 01-08-2008 11:37 PM

Hey Everyone!!!

I started my medifast today-- this is going to be great. Its so easy for me to fit it into my life style-- between work and meetings today I was home for 10 minutes and out of the house from 7:15 am to 9:30 and it was so easy to bring it with me and have my 1 meal at lunch.

I felt like I was eating all the time...the only problem that I think I am going ot have is keeping all of my eating in before 7 30. I have always eaten dinner later in the evening and just always ate after noon time. So that is an adjustment.

I was hungry at all until about 9 30 to now LOL. But I am not going to eat anything.

What is in this stuff by the way...there is something thats making me jittery...like caffeinine. I have done fasting and thats more of a normal part of my life so it doesn't feel like the normal fasting thing-- its just this weird thing. So I am wondering if there is something in this-- a chemical maybe?

Any ideas?

Wooo hooo I am so excited to watch my ticker go down and down!

You are doing great! :carrot: It's nice to have this forum for support! It helps a lot. I'm goin' to bed now so I don't eat anything I shouldn't. I really struggle with hunger in the evenings.

freiamaya 01-09-2008 07:28 AM

Hi Ms Flo!
Here is a bit of my dieting history!
Graduated from university at 161lbs. Down to 152lbs. Stayed there for about 30 seconds. Bounced up to 185 lbs. Then up to 199lbs. Then went to WW.
Started and stopped WW over and over and OVER again but eventually got down to 168 lbs approximately 10 years ago.
Weight crept up to 192 in 1999 and I stayed there until approximately 2003.
2003 crept up to 243 (!), stayed there until 2005.
Very Low Calorie diet (horrible diet, never go there again...) in 2005, down to 172. Stayed there for about 30 seconds (hahaha) and bounced up to 185. Stayed there until March 2007. Crept up to 202lbs between March and November 2007!
Started Medifast November 1st 2007.
Whew-tired yet???
November 1: 202 lbs
December 1: 185 lbs
December 24th:173 lbs
On and off plan from December 24th until January 3rd.
January 3rd:176 lbs
January 9th:171 lbs
So, since November 1st (Official MF start date) I am down 31lbs. And 11 of those days were either off-plan completely or partially (i.e. 4 MF meals and one whatever the heck I want meal).
What I've learned is that in all seriousness, LOSING the weight is the easiest part. MAINTAINING it is very very hard. One's mindset has to be 100% ON PLAN if you want to lose weight the MF way as it IS a bit extreme and DOES require discipline and committment, and if you are OFF PLAN, you need to figure out how to get back on track 100%. For me, half-measures don't work for losing weight.
To maintain my loss, I am going to have to find a plan for me that I can mostly follow. I honestly don't see myself eating MF meals for the rest of my life, as lovely as most of them are. I have to figure out my relationship with food, find a way to make it less important overall, set a goal weight RANGE, and how to adjust my intake on a daily basis in order to keep the lbs from creeping up.
Later!
Maya
:)

Ruthxxx 01-09-2008 07:49 AM

Maya, you are an inspiration. Please cough on me so I catch some of your determination.

That being said, I was 100% on plan yesterday and the scale dropped 2 pounds overnight. I can smell ONEderland.

My hospital stay and convalescence are going to be tricky as they stress the need for fruit, grains and dairy as needed for healing. I will certainly have to modify my plan when I get home and just do my best while in hospital. I have placed my second order and will be ready to roll back to full MF as soon as I can.

Check out our new front page at www.3fatchicks.com/ . Suzanne pulled an all-nighter and we're looking fresh and feisty for 2008!

Maya,

That statement had me rolling! Congratualtions on your 31 pound loss. That is absolutely wonderful!

Thank you to everyone who gave me input on the regularity issue. I think I will definitely look into psyllium(sp?). I didn't realize there were carbs that the body didn't absorb. That is good to know.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day today!

Jen

SweetP 01-09-2008 08:14 AM

Michelle - Sorry about that! :( I just really liked what Maya said after - should have left that part out! Sorry

Flo - Thanks so much - it has been a rough few months so not sure what will happen for him.

Andrea - I go to WW too! I like the accountability.

Maya - I agree so much about 100% for me at least and need to deal with theissues of why I got this way and why I never want to be this way again! And I know if the past once I go off any program, it is SO hard to get back in the mindset...

Ruth - WOO HOO :carrot:

Waving Hi to everyone - DD going back to school today :(

Check back later...

bellabella 01-09-2008 10:11 AM

Maria, that's rotten that you were discriminated against, I empathize completely. Since the new boss is making amends I would not go after back pay. Congratulations for standing up for what is right!!

Thanks to everyone for the regularity information. I'm off to the store to get Metamucil capulets.

Andrea, you're starting a trend! I am going to weight myself on Sundays also. Sundays will be fun!!

Thanks everyone, with your support, and just knowing I'm not alone in this, I've been able to stay on plan!!

I had to do a modified plan about a month before & after my surgery last fall. I ended up with a modified MF transition plan that included dairy, fruit, & whole grains (very little of that tho').

For fruit I looked at the Atkins list of low carb fruits which are mainly berries & I chose Fage Total 2% strained Greek yogurt as my dairy because of it's great health benefits & sometimes LF cottage cheese. Both go great w/berries too. For the whole grains I chose real oatmeal or a slice of good quality multi-grain bread.

I probably would have lost faster without this "sidetrip" but I need to get better & that was my focus during that time. Still lost weight & I have to tell you, my body was oh so happy to have those additions.

You may lose a little slower during your recovery time, but can still probably lose with a little planning. :)

Hi all!
About the "stupid" part -- I didn't mean to offend anyone. Ms Michelle's post said
"Someone make me feel better! Tell me I'm being stupid and this weight will fall off tomorrow!"
So I said:
"You're being stupid and the weight will fall off (but not all of it tomorrow!
hahahaha!
You aren't being stupid."
I wasn't trying to be rude or offensive -- I just thought it was amusing. My bad!!!!
Love y'all!

Maya: I thought you were pretty funny and not offensive at all
... We all are internet buddies... Kind of like a Biggest Loser on the web... smile ;)
Thank you for sharing your diet history with us... It conforts me to think that i could be where you are in a few weeks... Did you exercise at all?

I am happy with my weight loss so far: - 4.8 pounds (in 5 days)! But I am kind of wondering why i did not get the -10/-8 pounds of other people. I have been on plan 100%... Is it because i made a few recipes like the delicious biscuits, my ice cream? Or is it because i have been yo yo dieting for the last few months? Don't get me wrong, 5 pds is AMAZING!!! I was just hoping that i could have been in the Onderland at the end of the week... Could the one bar a day slow my weight loss down? Maybe i drunk a little too much Diet Coke... ANY suggestions?

Hi Ms Flo!
STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF EVERY DAY! You'll go CRAZY! When I weighed myself every day, I would OBSESS about what are normal body weight fluctuations. Some days, I'd lose NOTHING, then a huge BLOB would fall off the next day. Just stay on the plan! This isn't a race, and it WILL come off when it comes off. In the meantime, just do the plan to the letter and don't compare your loss to that of others!
Also, I personally believe that what you look like is 85%-90% as a result of diet, and 10%-15% as a result of exercise. Mathematically, if you look at it, it is HARD to burn 3500 calories strictly by exercise. And when you calorie-restrict as per a MF plan, EXCESS exercise actually results in SLOW weight loss as your body tries to protect itself from starvation.
ALL of my results are from diet. I do not regularly exercise -- and what I mean by that is that I don't go to the gym and get on the elliptical and so on for set periods of time. BUT, I HAVE increased my overall activity naturally as getting around isn't so difficult at 171lbs vs 243lbs. I golf in the summer and walk the course. My DH and I bike around alot. In the winter, I walk, I park as far from the mall door as I can, I take stairs, and so on. I may go cross-country skiing for FUN, but NOT for a fat burn.
When I drop another 15 lbs or so, I want to start running. NOT for weight loss, but for cardiovascular health.
BUT PLEASE REMEMBER that exercise is VITAL for weight MAINTENANCE. So quite often, it is good to get into the routine now.
MF recommends NO MORE than 45 minutes vigerous activity per day because anything MORE will slow your weight loss.
Bored, yet?
Bottom line: stay on the eating plan 100%, stop jumping on the scale, don't compare your weight loss rate to that of others (SO hard to do!), increase your daily activity naturally, don't worry about gym time at this point, and when you are more physically comfortable, start regularly exercising so that you can MAINTAIN your weight loss!
Love ya!

Good afternoon

Day 1 is here (again) and I'm doing well. I have the day planned out and should be fine. I also have my evening planned to I'll be doing things around the house to keep my mind off how I'm feeling.

Thanks for all of the great comments and advice. I had another talk with my brother and the other female engineer this morning and we're on the right path I think. The company culture is changing and we'll have to be agents of the change. I've had to stick my neck out several times this year but at least we're able to now.

By the way, I have major scale addiction too but I'm trying to break it. I did weigh this morning to get my official (this time) starting weight but that's in until Monday - my normal weigh-in day.

Hang in there everyone.

Maria

Hard to say but I think your 1st wk loss was great. I was pushing 300#s when I started & dropped a little over 15#s my first week & 35#s my first month. Those high initial losses seem to be more common the heavier you are. Another factor that plays into the big beginning losses is how much crap you ate before you started. My former diet was mega high in carbs so I think for me it was a huge carb purge.

Flo - I think you are doing great!!! Plus you have 2 more days for your first week ;) I agree with Maya - try to weigh once a week and if you need some reinforcement, you could try on a smaller pair of jeans or pants!!!
