Oh Dagmar, I'm sorry. Crap crap crap. Were they trying to remove the whole tumor - and if so, did they get clean margins? Or was it just a biopsy?

I don't have a lot of sugar cravings, but I do love pasta, bread and crackers. That said, so far I'm not craving them. I also love cheese and switching from cheese and crackers to just cheese isn't that bad. I do have a few recipes that use almond flour for both bread and crackers and I'll bake up some this weekend or next if I feel the need for something starchy without being too carb heavy.

My breakfast this morning was a hard boiled egg, 3 slices of turkey lunch meat spread with 2 T jalapeno cream cheese and about 1/2 c of guacamole.

Lunches are usually Ready Pac Bistro salads sans the carby stuff

Dinners are great! Last night kung pao chicken, with lots of peppers, over cauliflower "rice". One night we had "steak Benedict" which was steak, cooked in oil and butter, served over fresh tomatoes with fried eggs and Hollandaise sauce. Tonight we'll have a frozen pepperoini pizza and spinach salad. The pizza is wheat free (mostly almond flour) and supposedly quite good according to the grocery clerk who checked me out yesterday.

I've been amassing keto and paleo recipes to try.

He has some previous liver and kidney trauma from medications he takes for chronic cluster headaches, was in the hospital a few years ago almost in liver failure. As he doesn't do anything halfway, he was so far into ketosis this time around that his urine test (I didn't know they used test strips in the diet) was dark black. He started having significant symptoms - pain, nausea, etc. Ended up one step away from the hospital. So, before going all hard core keto, please talk to your doctor and make sure you don't have any contraindicated health conditions. My SIL lost about 18 pounds in the same time, and as far as I know has gained it all back with a return to a diet with carbs. I think bro has kept most of it off.
Thankfully I don't have any health issues other than slightly high cholesterol and slightly high blood pressure--both of which should improve with this diet. We'll see.

That said, DH is having to really slowly ease into the diet. After the steak Benedict dinner, his blood sugar the next morning was 74 (he's used to well over 100). He was shaky and nauseous all day. So for now, he's back to his oatmeal for breakfast and a cookie after dinner and yogurt with lunch. I think that after a few weeks, he should be able to omit one of those items without any problem.

They did a needle biopsy first which didn't tell them much. They went in and excised the whole tumour. I won't know anything else until I talk to the vet next Thursday. I have a list of questions to ask about the tumour which mostly will give us a guess at how much longer Trixie has to live.

We will keep her comfortable and let her do what she can for as long as she can. First thing is getting the cone off and stitches out on Monday.

Boy, our group has gotten quiet! Where is everyone?
I'm still here-- powering through the last few weeks of the school year.
Dh is gone per usual, but it gives me plenty of time to focus on healthy living.

Michelle, I'm here but not talking much - will try a bit harder for sure, it's good for me.

Saturday I ran the same grueling 50K that I did last year - sunshine this year instead of pouring rain, that was an improvement. The course stats were the same: 32 mile race, 6800' climbing (and same in descent), and I was better trained - I thought this year would be better. But a few weeks ago I ran a road relay that, although a beautiful course, gave me some shin splints that hadn't resolved. About 22 miles into this race, they flared up and had me hobbling. Result: 15 minutes slower than last year But I finished - and like last year, I was never sure I WOULD finish until only a few miles left.

This week is a monster: I have solo clinic duty, juggling thesis committee meetings and research lab, with grad students still not picking up the slack so I'm directing every move they make. Teaching, grading, etc. And DH is out of town caring for his mom who's having surgery, so I'll have to work out how to have dog potty breaks since we still don't have a fence and she can't hold it for 12+ hours.

My kids came home for Mother's Day and we had a nice dinner with my in-laws, too. We sent our tuxedo cat, Ringo, home with my son. He's been upset with our other cats and hasn't been social at all since our last vacation. We think he'd be much happier being a lone cat so my son stepped up and took him. He is my son's cat after all, but I will miss him. But, this is really only a trial run. If he doesn't adjust to my son's apartment, I'll take him back.

After talking with my daughter, I realized that I had scheduled our next cruise for May 2019--at the exact time she should be walking for graduation on her PhD. There's no way I want to miss that! She said there is a slight possibility (she says 50%) that she won't graduate next May as it might actually get postponed until December 2019 at which point she'll walk in May 2020. I decided not to chance it and cancelled the cruise. I did find a similar one with the two main points of interest (Panama Canal and Cuba) and booked that instead. So we'll postpone the cruise until September/October 2019.

So I guess that means I have an extra six months to lose weight before the cruise! I have to say that this keto thing is pretty easy (except for a mess up on Saturday that was NOT my fault! We went to lunch with my in-laws and they got there early and order margaritas for all. I was going to have a skinny margarita). I'm enjoying the food and so far haven't missed not having bread and pasta (although that might come up in the future). I'm down 6 pounds in less than two weeks so that makes me extremely happy.

i'm still here too, but sort of waiting to be a 'proper maintainer' before I jump in too much. My target was 56.0 and I've been 56.0 a few days (well 55.9 yesterday) and right on my target band I seem to be having a bit of a plateau. Not sure why, the eating's still on plan but perhaps I haven't been moving as much this last couple of weeks. Anyway I wanted to get BELOW 56.0 and then classify myself as a maintainer! Also what I've been doing this year has obviously become a habit because I'm finding it a bit of a mental challenge to move away from a strict calorie allowance, but i'm looking forward to figuring out how to do it in a workable way!

Generally all is super-good. I had to be cross examined in court to defend a patent challenge at work last week. This thing went on for 3 weeks, although my bit was only over 3 days, but basically I've been dreading it all year and now it's over and i'm feeling that big relief thing that happens when something you don't want to do goes away! And I had lots of other bits and pieces at work (admin type stuff) that I had to get done recently - and it's done. So workwise i'm pretty excited that I can actually get on with activities that I would describe as my Job, instead of being distracted with other fluff.

Being a bit lazy at home though. I re-injured my knee a couple of weeks ago and i'm doing physio exercises, but it seems to be getting worse if anything, so there's too much tv watching and not enough exercise happening in an evening. Guess I need to get to the Dr and get a referral for a specialist ideally, but I hate going to the Dr....

She's OK. I think I'm reading all sorts of things into her behaviour so I stop and take a breath and we move on. I'll have to wait until the conference with the vet is over - Thursday at 5 p.m. - so I have a solid idea of what is going on.

I have invited her to sleep in our bedroom in a nice comfy dog bed but she's preferring my office, where she has slept for all the time she's been here. I'll let her decide.

I'm here! Stuck at the same weight, probably because I've been lazy and my food intake has been around 1400 cals instead of the 1200 I need in order to lose. My engagement ring fits my hand again though, so that's good! Wedding ring is still a little too small so I don't want to risk it getting stuck. This weekend DH and I are flying to LA for a friend's wedding (kiddos are staying with the grandparents). I'm excited about it but also a little nervous about leaving the kids back home. This isn't the first time we've gone on a trip without them, but they've been in a really whiny/clingy/fighty phase lately.

It's my kids' last week of preschool too. Hard to believe! Only two more days of preschool and next fall they're off to kindergarten. I hope they'll do okay there. The elementary school seems so constrained in terms of play time vs classroom time and I can't imagine it's good for kids to have so little play time every day, but there's not much I can do about it. I will admit learning more details about the schools here has made me think about moving back to California. Theoretically the schools here are great and "better" than the schools I grew up in, but the schedules are so different. Back in LA schools always had a short outdoor recess around 10:15 and then a 45 min outdoor lunch, during which you could eat and play. Here there's a 30 min lunch in the cafeteria at 10:15am followed by 15 minutes of play time and that's it (each grade goes to lunch at a different time -- 5th graders go at 12:45). They seem a lot more strict here and a lot less like they care about the kids. Hopefully once we actually meet their teachers that will be proven wrong.

Jessica-- Kindergarten will be fun for the girls-- trust me! They sneak learning in, but it's all based around fun stuff to teach them. And have a fun kid free weekend-- they'll be fine!

Shannon-- if you're around-- have you had issues with your Versa syncing? I just started having issues and when I googled it, it seems to be a very common issue. It seems to be working for now....

I'm deep in inventory in the library now but I had to dress nicely today for a parent volunteer tea after school-- should be interesting trying to squat down and scan all the books while wearing a dress today. It's one of my favorite days of the year as we have a 5th grade state parade-- each student learns about a state and makes a float representing their state-- the kids are super creative! But it's cold outside-- brrrr!

Michele - Not good! I have trouble sometimes, usually every time they update the app. I have a Pixel 2 phone with the newer bluetooth tech, so I think my issue is more that than the watch. It isn't officially compatible with the Fitbit products, so they have some kind of workaround and sometimes I just have to reconnect it. I find that if I log out and back in, it usually pops back up.

Shannon, I think I need to say Belated Happy Birthday!! I hope it was a fun one.

I'm on Day 16 of Eat to Lose (just my own program and my own determination). I am trying for 16K or 17K steps instead of 15K. So far I think I have lost about a pound or maybe one and a half. But it's all good!! I still have two pounds to go to be at redline, then a few more for good measure. Maybe it will happen by the end of May or even June.

Dagmar, it's always hard to wait for results, which I think you get tomorrow? Hoping it's good news for Trixie.
