Pleasant experience on the scale this morning.

I am all set to do Bikram on Wedesday at 9 AM. I made an "appointment" with myself so it's scheduled (on my calendar) so I have to go! I've got my yoga mat. I need to decide on a towel. I have my clothes all picked out. Just need to be sure to pre-hydrate and take plenty of water with me.

Still 130.0 but I am doing the "right" things. Ran 4 1/2 miles on the bike path yesterday - I noticed a marked increase in my fitness levels from the last bike path yog. I was tired upon completion but I didn't need to sit in the car for 10 minutes catching my breath like I did before. I simply got in, rolled the windows down, and drove home.

allison, the yoga sounds like a terrific treat!

krampus, I am always amazed by how fast my body will respond to dedicated exercise. Good job getting out there!

I'm returning to my over-analytic introvert, and with that has come the drive to mindlessly munch. I caught myself more than a couple times. Feeling "all-together" sure was nice while it lasted! Now it's back to doing things the hard way. :P So be it.

My bikram advice (for what it's worth):

* my studio has towels and I just use them-- but people do bring their own.
* I bring two big waters-- one I freeze and one regular. I drink the regular one during class and then towards the end I switch to the frozen one.
* Do hydrate before class. Don't eat right before class but don't go hungry either. I usually have a snack or a light meal 1-2 hours before class.
* You aren't supposed to leave class during the 90 minutes. I always get there early to set up my space (you'll want to be towards the back at first so you can see others), and then I use the restroom right before class.
* Each pose is done twice. Some poses you will be able to do easily. Others you won't. Just do your best. Each time I go I work at getting each pose better than before-- they are always the same poses in the same order.
* Roughly the first half of class are standing poses, and then you get to lay down for floor poses. Once I make it to the laying down portion, it is downhill from there.
* If you have to take breaks, just sit down or lay down. If you feel super dizzy or winded, take a break.
* You are only supposed to drink water between poses, not during so you don't distract others.
* Just listen to the instructor and do your best.
* Give it a few classes before you decide if you like it or not. It is hard but well worth it. My flexibility, stamina, joints, etc. have improved greatly.

Default yoga note

I have done a form of yoga/stretching for over 30 years now. I'm 55 years old and I can bend over from the waist, knees slightly flexed but not bent and put my palms flat on the floor and hold them there comfortably.

I can also balance on one foot (either leg) for several minutes at a time. Etc, etc.

I think I would suffer many, many more injuries on the job if I weren't so "flexy bendy" (DH's term for me). Yoga rocks!

I finally broke the 150 barrier! I'm officially 149.5!!!!

DH and I golfed this morning--walked the course. He beat me by one stroke! I'm hoping that tomorrow I do better (or he really screws up!).

Time now to shower, hit the grocery store and maybe do a little shopping for myself. I feel entitled!

Alinnell, cherry angiomas are so easy to remove with laser that targets red. You can have this done by any dermatologist or clinic with a laser. They are "zapped" and just dry up and vanish. That's been my experience, anyway. Good luck!

Exclamation food porn!

I had a Groupon for $20 worth of baked goods from Bagel World. Ate a sesame seed topped bagel for lunch. Just plain. Incredible! Nice and crisp on the outside and soft and chewy inside.

Now I remember why I stopped eating bagels. Too good! And too many cals. Unfortunately I had to "spend" the entire $20 at once so I now have 16 bagels in the freezer, one left for DH (who is away this weekend and I realistically know will not see that bagel), and I was nice enough to give my dad 6.

I also got a raisin challah. Just had a slice of that toasted with a bit of marg -double . The rest of that promptly also went into the freezer.

Dagmar ( my baked goods)

Good to know! Thanks.

Dagmar, bagels are the devil! So many calories in them and they are so good! I remember once trying to show my DD a "better choice" and got a bag of 100 calories bagels. She ate two.

Oh allinell are you starting Bikram. I started eight weeks ago and love it. Michele's advice was great. I don't mind if the water's warm toward the end of class, so I don't freeze mine but I see a lot of people do. Make sure you drink plenty of water AFTER class. This is where I fail!

I'm still rubbish at the poses but I had some major flexibilty problems to start, but I'm getting better and better - and my functional day-to-day flexibility has improved so much. Also I tore a calf muscle last summer and bikram has helped me have my first pain free days since my injury! Awesome.

I weigh the same as I did when I started Bikram...which is a little depressing. But I must be almost a size down. People are commenting on how much weight I've lost - but I haven't!

Awesome AlmostMe! Thanks! I do hope I like the class. My friend who goes there says I'll do fine--everyone goes at their own pace.
