Nope, I'm a Texan. Originally from Connecticut, but grew up in Texas. We've lived in California for six years though, so I'm getting used to references to "The City" and "The Snow" (Tahoe), but I still find them hilarious.
I am not that far from the "Snow' In fact when I go to Sacramento I see the exits for Tahoe or Reno and I always think I on vacation. Don't forget they had the Winter Olympics in California a few years back.
PS I was born in raised in Minnesota, I know about snow.
Alinell, what are "satin balls" ? Our 9 y-o overweight Lab(Rose-Marie, goes by Rosie) had her front right leg removed last Wednesday. She's doing ok, some days are better than others. She has arthritis in back left leg so, not the best for her. She's somewhat picky about her food right now and since she's recovering I'm not ready to battle with her on that. Hope Chico does well with his recovery.
This is the recipe I use Satin Balls. My dogs love it. Usually you make it and freeze it into meatballs and thaw one for a meal. Specifically it is a high calorie dense food to help dogs gain weight. If your dog is overweight, I wouldn't recommend it.
He ran around in circles on the bed for a minute, with a look on his face like "OMG I AM ON THE BED," then DH picked him up and put him back on the floor.
Don't make a habit of this! You know there is no going back, right (I'm sure you do, you've been a dog owner for longer than me!)? I speak from mournful experience. Emma was not allowed on bed or couch for the first 6+ months we had her. When she got scraped up I felt bad and started letting her on the bed. After her scrapes healed... yes, she sleeps on dear BF's pillow now.
Michele, what a fun day! Enjoy the haircut!
YAY for Chico! Animals are so much more resilient than we realize.
Saef, as a scientist, I must say one data point does not make a trend. One "season" doesn't even make a trend. So give it a few weeks and a few data points before you decide this higher weigh-in is a trend. You've been doing a lot of strength training lately. Not only does muscle weight more, when you work your muscles hard they do retain a lot of water. I know you know this, I'm just reminding you bc sometimes we all need reminders. Also, great news about your apt!
I have to work Saturday so am off work today. Hung out w BF last night, drank a margarita (ok, this really can't go on), slept in and am off to workout hard at the gym today. Emma will get a long wog later, too, but it's raining right now so I'm waiting for that to pass. There is a wedding on a lawn down the street from me tonight. It is a rental house, out-of-towners, so not anyone I know, but I hope the rain clears out for their party. At least they do have a tent set up.
Thanks Allison.I'm just concerned at the moment that she's not eating enough to heal properly. She's getting the staples removed on Tuesday so I'll ask the vet for advice.
Thanks goodness for exercise to help with the stress,I haven't felt so heartbroken in a long time.

singing, you know you are doing the best you can for Rosie.

Heartbroken is right.
Chico is a fetching idiot. He hasn't even wanted to be near any of his toys yet. He is eating, though.
Megan, yes, that is why Carter now insists on always being on the couch with us when we watch TV. For nearly a year we tried all sorts of different things to keep him off the couch -- he'd stay down when we were there, but jump on it when we weren't home. We put tin foil across it, a chair in front of it, etc. but he always managed to get up there. Eventually we just threw some blankets on top to protect the fabric and just let him up. But I don't think either of us would be willing to let him sleep in the bed! He's just too big. Maybe a little doggie like Michele's Dewey, but Carter would take up half the bed himself.
Krampus, that is scary about your neighbors. If they keep being threatening can you call the police on them?
Saef, glad the construction is progressing!
In other news, I intended to eat one piece of cornbread at lunch today . . . and then I ate three. Oops. Trying to motivate myself to go run now, but my feet are kind of grumpy and there are thunderstorms on the way (I am making excuses, can you tell?).

.
We share our bed with Dewey and usually both kitties (Charlotte and Wilbur). Jozi sleeps downstairs. We have shock mats that we put on the couches so she won't get up on them. We don't even turn them on usually-- just having them on the couch is a deterrent. We have two real ones and one that is just plastic. They work well.
In other news, I made the mistake of looking at the yelp reviews for the Neiman Marcus cafe. Everyone raves about the lobster club sandwich so I may succumb to it. I'm not a fan of avocado usually so I can maybe omit that-- maybe it would save 100 calories?? Here is the description including the calories and the hefty price!
Funny. Chico doesn't really like being on the couches. The bed? Yes. But it's king size and he sleeps between us at the foot, so rarely does he take up too much space. That is unless I'm being sandwiched between him and Louie. Ringo will get up on occasion and investigate but rarely spends much time with us. The one time he did, we'd been on vacation and he clearly missed us. Another time was when I had come home from work sick--then he and Chico wouldn't leave my side.
The cats have been driving me batty today. Ringo is usually really good about staying off the kitchen counters and table, but not today. Five times this morning I had to shoo him off. Louie was his usual 3 times. Now I know why each day I come home from work and wash down all the counters before I do anything!
It's been a really quiet day with Chico. He's eating well and resting a lot. We've been out several times and he'll pee but still hasn't pooped. The vet said it might be a few days--especially since he'll need help with balance the first time.
But it's king size and he sleeps between us at the foot, so rarely does he take up too much space.
Yes, that is where Emma is supposed to sleep. She worms her way up the bed once we start to close our eyes... and spreads out horizontal to our vertical... I have also actually woken up to her head on the pillow next to me, lying belly up, exactly like a human. She is devious, but she is cute.
Glad to hear Chico is eating, sleeping, and not acting distressed. That is great news!
Went on a mini binge yeterday , ate 4 bowls of Honey Bunches of Oats and the scale reflected that tis morning. Sometimes I get weary of having to think of food all the time and "Should I be eating this?" "Heck, No !" But I did.
DS stayed home last night while DH and I went to DD's final concert. While we were away, Chico did his first poop since Tuesday night. All his plumbing is working just fine! Now we have to keep a keener eye on him. DS also reported that Chico had jumped onto and off of his bed while we were gone. He's not supposed to jump. At least his bed is lower than ours, but when we got home, I was walking around to his good side to help him up to our bed and he jumped up before I could stop him. I guess he's feeling a bit better. At 3 AM I realized he was about to jump off the bed, but DH got him down safer and took him out to pee. After that he slept on the floor and I think we all got a good rest of the night's sleep due to that.
In other news, I was dearly hoping to announce another loss for the week, but nope. Still hanging there at 149.5. At least there wasn't a gain for the week. I guess I need to look on the bright side of things.
Allison, good news about Chico, sounds like he knows how to fiigure things out, smart boy ! I think it is remarkable that you haven't gained after going through Chico's surgery . I am sure if I had a dog facing an amputation that I would have dived into the nearest comfort food.

Have you eaten like this before, Bargoo, or is this new behavior? Are you okay? I ask because I know that I will think about this post all day on Saturday. My own struggles with binge eating remain fresh in my mind, no matter how many years out from a sort of recovery. Any time I'm tempted to weigh constantly, to record and count, to restrict, I remember the backlash that builds up from that behavior, and I try to live more normally -- or as normally as someone who's weighed as much & lost as much as I have ever will be able to do. At one point in my life, many years ago, my restricting, overexercising and bingeing filled me with misery. Also I'm reading Portia de Rossi's memoir about having an eating disorder, so I'm very much on the alert about vestigial behavior in myself and have clearer recall about it than ever.
Be kind to yourself. And I'm impressed that you told us. Somehow "fessing up" always helped me, because it was a secretive and shaming behavior which I tried to hide.
saef, thank you for your remarks. I suppose this is a new/old behaviour, it was eating in such a haphazard way that brought me to over 200 pounds , at a height of just 5 feet , not a pretty sight. A bowl of that cereal and 1/2 and 1/2 is about 210 calories, I can work that into my daily calorie allotment, even two bowls can squeak by but by the time I got to the third bowl I had given up all pretense of being in control. I didn't eat these all at once but over the course of the day. I need to be reminded of ibuprofen, I am allergic to ibuprofen if I take any medication containing ibuprofen I break out into hives, I would rather have the pain than hives, I have NO problem staying away from ibuprofen.
Conclusion to this sad story, you will never see another box of Honey Bunches of Oats in my house again
