Note to self: Don't stand in front of a 3 way mirror during the crux of your period. Major bloaty...it was seriously frightening.

Thanks everyone for the WTG's on the run time - I actually feel very slow out there - especially when other runners pass me like I am standing still. I am planning on heading out again today after work, hope to meet or beat my 5k time.

Jessica is it you that is following volumetrics? Would you recommend the book?
I am willing to try anything new at this point - because what I am doing at the moment is NOT working.
And after yesterdays 3 way mirror experience - I have been scared straight!

Serious TGIF today - enjoy everyone.

I turn my back for 2 days and this becomes a food porn thread!!! Don't get me started on the pb/chocolate people! I do prefer the natural pb, but as with so many sweets, if I have a little bit, I've got to have more and more and more...

I like Meg and Ward's food porn! Last night I had my first harvest of green beans from my garden. They were so crunchy and just a little sweet straight from the plant that I just rinsed them and ate them raw with dinner. I've got a cucumber that is about an inch long and everything is blossoming away. Yum, fresh veggies!

Instead of gym-ing it up yesterday, I went to walk dogs at the humane society. Surely wrestling two ~90 lb dogs down to get them to stop saying "hello" by jumping up on you (not aggressive, just excited - and they're tall!) burned a few calories. They still have my favorite Goldie. She is so sweet. I want a dog...can't get one right now, but I want one!

BF just told me last night that his sis & her family are coming to visit this weekend... "didn't I tell you?" They aren't staying with me, but I'm sure they will come over to my house. I like them a lot, I'd just appreciate some advance notice to clean the house, you know? Tomorrow is the local boy scout's annual sailing regatta, and BF's boat is always a chase boat, so we'll be out on the water. Should be a nice day.

Shanna, I'm glad to hear that you're son's memorial was very positive and you and your family are doing ok. My thoughts are with you.

TGIF! Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Meg, remind me never to read your posts while eating, I nearly choked from laughing!

I have a different kind of food porn to report -- I was flipping through one of my food logs and had trouble reading my own handwriting. I'm looking at this entry and it says, "5g porn." !!! It took me a couple minutes that it said "5g parm," as in parmesan cheese.

I made DH a PB sandwich for lunch this morning and very carefully avoided any BLT's. I was tempted though! I've bought the natural PB before, but honestly? I don't like it. I don't like nuts, and I don't like peanuts straight. Now, when you mix nutty flavor with sugar and salt? THEN I like them. And with chocolate even better! I feel the same way about coffee. Straight coffee, yuck! A mocha frappachino? Yum! Jamoca almond fudge ice cream?

Sznn, yes, I am doing Volumetrics. There are two books, one is just about the science and the diet, and the other has recipes. I bought the one with recipes, it's called "The Volumetrics Eating Plan." It has a couple chapters about the plan then the rest of the book is recipes and other food ideas. It's working for me so far, I've been able to keep my calories about 400 less than I was before without being hungry, and I'm down a pound this week.

Hi, you all make me laugh. Thanks!

Today is my 1 yr anniversary under my original "red-line" goal weight of 135. I can't say I'm quite at the level of "excited" (no dancing carrot) but it does feel good.

I weighed in today at 127.5, so up from my lowest after Ryan (126) but still under my new red-line of 130, so overall I'm happy. My measurements were good today - all measurements the same as I was in Nov at 128, except my waist is half an inch smaller than it was then (core exercises for my back are helping there). Overall I'm satisfied, and I don't feel like I'm needing to binge in relation to the grief - at least not at this point. I know I'll have to be diligent about my attitudes and priorities over the next year as we all adjust to our new smaller family.

I love spinach salads, strawberries on it are are good but my fav is spinach w/manderin oranges, a little freshly shredded parm, a few slivered almonds, some grilled chicken, and raz vinegrette dressing. yum.

Everyone have a great Friday!

I guess I have to count myself as one of the lucky ones. I regularly have ice cream in the freezer (although usually pre-made cones from Schwan's--I'll eat maybe 1 or 2 a year), I always have PB in the pantry (Jif of all things) and I have huge bags of almonds and pecans in the pantry and haven't unzipped the bag since January. But a box of Triscuits? Although I don't binge on them, they call my name as does a really good cookie.

Delta~make yourself at home!! Welcome!

And broccoli? Well, my Mom got me to eat it when I was little with a sauce made from sour cream, minced onions, vinegar and a little sugar. Oh, it makes my mouth water now! But these days I eat my broccoli with a little salt and pepper.

Last night I made another recipe from my new cookbook. Oh, yum! Basically it was a smallish baked potato filled with a concoction of black beans, corn, onions, salsa and topped with a little cheese and cilantro. Another easy and good meal.

Honestly, I do love broccoli.... of course PB and ice cream are infinitely more tempting! But enough of that!!

Megan, I like your idea of dog-walking for exercise. Being around dogs also makes me happy so it's a win-win situation! I'll have to do that this summer as well.

Shanna, congrats on your weight-loss anniversary! I'm also glad you are working on healing. You're still in my prayers.

Jessica, volumetrics sounds like such a good idea. I kind of try to do that, but I always end up munching on calorie-dense things cos they are so darn tasty!!

sznn - point taken on mirrors and period bloat! yikes! Check yourself out next week and I'm sure you'll be MUCH happier. =)

Presentation this afternoon... I get to tell a bunch of miners about their risk of exposure to diesel particulates. I'll be glad when it's over, even though I'll be working this weekend.

I'm playing hooky today from work. Supposed to be working on my school projects so will get to those now before the day runs away from me.

Shanna, I am so glad to see you are posting. Continuing to pray for your whole family.

My scale was inexplicably up several pounds today. WTH? I have to remember not to worry about it........ my weigh in is tomorrow so I suspect I will be up. I'm guessing it is sodium, but not sure what would have triggered it. I have a powerful headache though-- can sodium trigger a headache? The only thing different I ate yesterday was some tomato soup. I didn't check the sodium on it and I've had it before, though not in awhile. Could be stress too......

I'm staying out of the food porn conversations. Since I'm at home today, it might be too tempting to go and raid my cabinets!!

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

Shanna - congrats on your year, and the NWCR! And, I'm glad to 'see' you around.

Michele - could be the soup, could be stress. Canned soups tend to do that to me, too... It will pass.

Iris - hope your presentation goes well!

Allison - I found the cookbook on Amazon. I think I have to have it, everything you have posted sounds so yummy...

Jessica - I don't like the natural peanut butter either... I prefer the sweet, much worse for me product!

Megan - I hate those unannounced drop-in visits... I always feel like people are looking at the floor and thinking 'how long has it been since she cleaned these?', which I know isn't true, but I still think it... Enjoy the visit!

Sznn - I try not to stand in front of a three way mirror at all! I'm bloated and puffy right now, and I'm self conscious enough in front of my bathroom mirror!

Kim - I've wondered the same thing about falling off plan. I feel so great when I stay OP and exercise, why do I not do it sometimes? I don't get it... High five for the six OP days!

Ward - that salad sounds great! I need to go by the store today and get some more salad fixings...

Meg - about broccoli with chocolate sauce...

Dagmar - I do love broccoli! It is a new love for me, just this year, so I have once or twice overeaten it and wound up with some gastrointestinal distress from it... eek...

Shane - ooo... just reading your list of evil companies makes me want to skip my salad for lunch and get a dessert item instead... But I'm going to be strong, even if I have to stay upstairs and eat a ThinkThin bar instead of risking ordering at the counter in the restaurant...

Delta - funny! Come on in and maintain whatever you want with us!

Well, my average weight for April is almost a pound up from my average for March and my waist is 1/2 inch bigger than last Friday (though 1 inch smaller than this past Monday, weird )... I'm still hoping it is the water, but thinking about making some diet changes for a couple of weeks to hedge my bets. Cutting out the PB&J as morning snack habit I've picked up... It has fit in my calories, but I have to wonder if increasing my fat every day has been bad... On the other hand, I'm in a bad place emotionally right now, so I'm worried about making big changes today. DH had a pretty down night last night so we were up until after 2 talking about stuff. I'm exhausted, sore, sniffly, and starving to death... Ex wife has twicked around with our schedule with my stepson a lot in the last month, and made a lot of changes for the next several weeks, making a pretty last minute change for this weekend last night. She also dropped in a request for my birthday weekend which is coming up on the 15th, which I feel was deliberate to keep us from being able to make any plans (has done it every year...) I'm feeling pretty out of control at the moment, and I know that my tendency is to grasp down on calories and exercise. So, only minor calorie changes until after this weekend. Will wait until Monday to fully reevaluate the plan.

Have a good weekend everyone!

ETA: I made it downstairs for a salad without dessert or onion rings... I did get a pack of Premium Gold Club crackers, but that has to better than the onion rings or the brownie.

Hi All,

I was super tired after work today but went for a 10.5k run anyway...yay me
No speed records were broken - did it in 1:05.
Unfortunately - now I am relaxing and celebrating my victory with a corona.
Sort of defeats the purpose I'd say.
It is so beautiful and sunny outside - must get back out there and enjoy it.

Happy Friday Everyone!

Thanks, Shannon! The presentation actually went really well. The miners were much more interested in the safety issues I was discussing than I expected and actually participated in suggesting some options to reduce emissions underground! I was really excited. I think the next generation is developing a great culture of safety.

My DH is the "safety guy" for the contractor whose office he manages and he says the same thing. When he worked in the field no one read directions, used safety harnesses, wore masks etc. Now the new generation takes the safety guidelines quite seriously. They attend all of his monthly safety meetings and actually put into practice all of the procedures he outlines. He's even been asked to develop a manual of these procedures.

Glad your meeting went well!

Yeah, it's the weirdest thing. I get to day 3 of clean eating, feel great, and then blow it with an evening of junk. I'm even getting a "food hangover" effect the next day.

Good morning, ladies and gents. (Are there any men reading this board these days?)

Last night was work dinner #1 for the month. I did well: I had a green salad w/out dressing (I like my salads that way, even when I'm not counting calories), a tuna steak served with pineapple and sea scallops, and decaf coffee with cream instead of dessert. No wine, because it sometimes triggers late-night eating; besides, I knew that our guest doesn't drink, and I thought it would be easier on her if there was someone else not drinking wine, too! I did have a bit of granola with The Boy when I got home, but even so I think I managed to keep the day's calories around 1500.

So, I'm starting off the weekend with 7 days of clean eating under my belt. What a nice change.

Today will basically be a regular work day at the office. I have 10,000 things to finish up before I leave tomorrow for CA tomorrow. (Work trip, unfortunately.) Scratch that: 10,001. I *WILL* go to the gym when it opens at noon!

Have a great weekend, all!

Be strong,
Kim

LOL that May 1st was "work dinner #1 for the month." Hope the frequency dies down a bit. Kudos for your seven days of OP food.

Yep, Kim, there are male maintainers - at least this one although a bit of the silent type on this thread of late.

My maintenance good news was spending four day in a training last week with morning (small scones) and afternoon (cookies and chips) snacks provided in abundance each day. Avoided them with my mantra, Not about me. A good feeling.
