Allison - that dish does sound great. You said it was from a Cooking Light cookbook?
Michele - hope you feel better!
It's from a new book--Fresh Food Fast or something like that. I can't find the recipe on their website. Anyway, each recipe takes 15 minutes or less to prepare and usually have only 5 main ingredients. So easy!
Most commercial PB is made with icing sugar (but you all know that) so that's a double whammy for me - fat and sweet!
We bought some natural PB with nothing but ground peanuts in it and eating that was easier to control, and a whole lot less tasty on the sandwich or finger (my preferred PB consuming utensil).
I can't have a whole jar in the house. I wish they would make single serving portions available at the store, like the ones you get at breakfast restaurants.
OH MAN peanut butter ice cream is my favorite thing... possibly... EVER. Fat, sweet, ice creamy, AND PEANUT BUTTERY? Dude! That's, like, the BEST!
I, too, have NO self control with ice cream. I once ate a whole half gallon...
...and then went to the ER a few hours later. I'll never do that again...
...but I can't have ice cream in my house, or I WILL eat it all. I don't know what it is, but I just can't stop with that stuff.
I'm not quite as bad with peanut butter, but I'm close. Buying natural peanut butter definitely helps, as it isn't QUITE as addicting/tasty BUT I will still keep eating it anyway.
Nuts are bad, too. I can't eat just a handful. My hand wants to reach for the entire can
I wonder what it is within us that causes us to have binge triggers and I greatly envy those who don't!
I have all of the above in the house, can eat them in moderation. In fact, once I hit goal I was feeling pretty smug about my conquering my "triggers".
Until I made brownies for a church function. It wasn't a pretty sight. Proof that I have a ways to go when it comes to trigger foods.
Warm baked goods seem to put me over the edge.
I have trouble stopping with some things, but I can honestly say I don't get the sugar-type PB thing. I just don't even like it, much less want to binge on it. But yeah, PB ice cream ... num!
I guess I am fortunate that I don't like PB. I will eat Peanut Butter cups though-- if you put chocolate on anything-- I will eat it! But I have always hated the smell and taste of peanut butter.
They do sell individual servings of PB. I bought them recently for my dd. They still have a lot of fat and calories per tub but I guess it is better than eating a whole jar.
The memorial yesterday was oh soooo difficult, but also beautiful. There were at least 200 people there. Ryan was very loved, and we've feel very loved throughout this. Thank you all again for your thoughts and prayers. Dealing with bi-polar has been a long struggle, not much different than dealing with a loved one who has cancer. We did everything we could to get him the medical help he needed, but in the end the disease beat him. We all will miss him forever, but I know he is with Jesus and at peace now.
I worked out today for the first time since Ryan's death (not including a little yoga and stretching). It felt good to work up a sweat. My girls worked out with me. They are so cute. DH and the girls and I also went for a long walk in the park by the lake today - the sunshine felt good. In a way it's hard to get back to "normal" but I know life goes on and so we have to re-adjust. We're slowly moving in that direction.
Oh man, yes, PB is a major trigger food for me too. PB cookies are about the worst, with PB ice cream a close second. It was probably the biggest single contributor when I gained 58 lbs in less than a year in 2004. I can have a jar of pb around but if I make the girls a PB sandwich or something I have to be careful to actually add in the "taste and lick" calories or I'll go overboard.
That's it for me today. Take care and hug your children/family members.
You know what else gets me?
Chocolate + peanut butter combos. Brownies are also the devil. The brownie industry... well... nevermind! Let's just say I need a good lawyer to help me sue Dairy Queen, Mrs. Fields, Hersheys, Godiva, Ben & Jerrys, Haagan Dazs, and Skippy...
Thanks for that link, Michele! I must say you're mighty blessed to hate PB.
Shanna Glad to know you are hanging in there. I had a relationship with a guy who had bipolar once, and it was certainly a rocky journey.
It's sort of ironic; I found myself reading your post and going, "whoa, 58 pounds in a year?" until I realized I gained 50 in less than 6 months. Yup. Gotcha beat. It was definitely more than PB, though
DeltaT - hey, I think I like your slightly offbeat sense of humor... come on in and stay awhile, you maintainer you! WE can be DOUBLE maintainers together, as I work for a company with MAINTENANCE in the title.

Mmmm ... broccoli! And spinach! Here's some food porn for you. Yesterday for lunch I had a ginormous salad: baby spinach with strawberries, a sprinkle of almonds and fat free feta cheese with balsamic vinaigrette. Delicious, filling and all for about 200 calories. Yum! Today I might have my favorite cole slaw salad: tri-color cole slaw mix, sunflower seeds, craisins and grilled chicken with light cole slaw dressing. I can't wait!
Shanna: I'm so glad to hear that you're on the way to normalcy. I'm sure it will be a two-steps-forward, one-step-back process, but you'll make it!
I never buy regular PB because I don't like the sugar. Besides, with natural PB I can pour off some of the oil (I save it for asian stir-fries) and kid myself into thinking I've made it healthier!
6 days of POP eating, and I feel fantastic. (Well, except from the DOMs from yesterday's deadlifts.) Seriously, though, if just 6 days of clean eating makes me feel this much better, I wonder why the heck I/we fall off the POP wagon ... and why it's so hard to get back on.
