Tera, have you seen a doctor about your hip pain? Are you sure it's hip and not originating in the spine (lower back)? Often hip pain arises from lower back problems. Something to check out if it persists. And....YAYAYAYAY! Congrats on the loss.

ChinaMaine, hope all talk about layoffs is unfounded. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Anne, do you find the Wii fit really helpful? Maybe I'll ask my kids for it for my birthday.

Bill, if you really want a green shirt for the future, hit the thrift stores AFTER St. Patrick's day....that's when people will unload them.

Was reading Losing Weight for Good (1997) by Lawrence Cheskin, director of John Hopkins Weight Management Center. Picked it up at the library sale. He suggests something to help the fact that often we indulge without being "mindful" or aware at the time of overeating....wearing your watch upside down. Often the very time when you are about to overindulge you look at your watch (e.g., is it close to dinner, is my show on yet, do I have to leave yet?). Looking at the watch and seeing that you can't read it easily jars you into awareness of what you are about to do. Of course, now that most watches are digital it may not be as effective, but it might be a good cueing device.

After my high yesterday hit a new low on the scale, but I won't believe it until I can maintain it for a few days... it's still fractional and I need to stay on course, can't allow for any complacency (sp?). If it is real, it will be the lowest I've been in a number of years, and I WILL BE EXCITED. Expect lots of capital letters.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Susan

Just a little personals time. It's a slow day - y'know... vacation-y. Nice. We were going to have a friend over, but he had to postpone.

Jen:

Susan: I had an orthopedic specialist look at it, yes. He diagnosed me with bursitis on top of the arthritis that I already knew about. The bursitis us just an inflammation in the joint - more of a symptom than a problem. The actual problems (I have been told) are valgus (aka knock-knees) poor muscle balance stabilizing the knees and hips (some muscles being much stronger than their opposing muscles) and the weight (of course). The doc gave me a round of cortizone shots, with mixed results.

I have exercises (you'll notice I'll mention stretches and occasionally strength training) that I've been given by a physical therapist, but I've been told to not work through bursitis pain. New shoes with better support and shock absorbing soles are helping considerably, and part of it is also making sure I don't bend/lift in ways that aggravate the condition.

Some days are better than others. My goal is to work toward all "better" days.

Hooray for your new low. (Not prematurely, right?)

Talking Wednesday Hump Day

Beck – WI-down .25 lbs. Yes! I am back down to my old low of 189 lbs!! (Credit)
–Exercise – op. Food – off-plan. I succumbed to anxiety and traded out my hummus and fresh veggies for a latte and a 100 calorie ice cream treat. Calorie-wise they were equivalent, but an hour later I was very hungry indeed. There’s a reason to have a plan…
I’ve noticed over the last two days that I’m burning calories about 20% more slowly than the 'burn' rate I've had since early February. I believe this means I’m getting fitter so I’m burning calories more efficiently. I AM getting fitter – credit!
one by one Credit for a wobbly workout – especially when you weren’t into it! Too bad this isn’t really a spring break for you, but glad you got to share the work with someone. That can really make things better…

Anne for a good day! It feels so good when your body is just humming, doesn’t it?.

Bill I am of good Irish stock, but I didn’t wear green yesterday. So you did better than I! You remind me how enjoyable it is to be in a city sometimes. I lived near NYC for many years, and I miss heading up to wander the streets every couple of months. You have an opportunity for watching, and celebrating, your fellow man that you can only have when population density reaches a certain level.

Tera Down SIX to a new low!! Congratulations for all your hard work paying off! Credit for 100% op and for yummy experiment!

Susan Although your weight may bounce up and down a bit – celebrate it! It is bound to hit this point again in a few days, even if it does go back up tomorrow. for having your lowest WI in YEARS. Kudos for the result of your hard work in the last week or two.

Coaches/Buddies Another on plan day today. Ho hum. Ran 2.5 miles. On-plan lunch out with the girls today. Lots of credits all around. A nice drama-free day on the home and work fronts.

I'm increasing my hours at work from 20/week to 24. So far the transition is going well. I'm a bit worried about the next round of illnesses or whatever, but so far so good.

Bill No credits yesterday? Not even for avoiding green beer? Does it count as a vegetable?

I think the hunger advice is weird. Tera had a great perspective in her post yesterday (this morning?), but I'm not sure it is even that clear cut. Barbara Rolls (of Volumetrics fame) research shows that eating clear broth soup or simple salad before a meal reduces how much we "naturally" consume. Judith Beck's CBDL includes this strategy in the food plan. To me this is useless eating before a planned meal, when there is no "natural" limitation about it, all preplanned, unless you just happen to enjoy soup/salad of course. On the other hand, the lunch skipping experiment sure shows that letting yourself get "really" hungry isn't so bad, at least once in a while. BTW: JB mentions she only gets to eat veggies while she personally prepares food, so how bad a strategy could it possibly be? I don't have BDS right here as I post--she had some NO CHOICE rules for herself listed somewhere in there.

For me true hunger is physically uncomfortable and I try to manage it, and yeah, avoid it. But I think it is also probably overreacting to always eat because I'm scared of it. I think it is a balancing act for me. But if I'm honest with myself, I have more trouble with being munchy than hungry, and both are managed through good planning. Munchy with modest amounts of junk food, and hunger through a Volumetrics-style eating plan with buckets of veggies.

Tera on the new low and 100%.

I have to sort of guess at what I'm burning. My Heart Rate monitor gives me a place to start. But running and walking are really well studied and I pretty much believe the formulas for calories burned per mile per pound of body mass, at a given speed (speed is a pretty small effect actually). So if my HRM says I burned 400 calories and the formulas say 300 for a run, I sort of calibrate my HRM by 0.75. But the bottom line is that it is all a guess.

JenMusic

Susan I like the balance games on the Wii because they are sort of fun, and I'm pretty much balance challenged. Some of the yoga and strength stuff is pretty good too. I don't do the aerobic stuff much because I run, but it is an interesting change--hula hooping for example.

Your low weight is real! That is what weight is. I'll bet it is even from a body fat loss, which is what we all really care about anyway.

ChinaMaine Sorry your off-plan substitution left you hungry. Congrats on getting fitter!

Thumbs up Thursday

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Missed my gym session due to working late and juggling some stuff at home. All in all a day of too many phone calls. Curse you Alexander Graham Bell. Oh Well. Eating was on plan including one more day of yummy leftover corned beef and cabbage for lunch. CREDIT moi. And leftover 15 bean soup made from the package of dried beans with one tablespoon of Penzey's ham base - soooooo good. Yay for the magic of bean soup tasting even better as a leftover.

Anne (wndranne) - Yay for "drama free." Kudos for ho-humming along on plan. Good luck juggling the extra half-day of work each week. My experience is that it's always difficult to get people to have part-time expectations when I'm charging to a project part-time.

Yep, I also think that Beck's example of Phillip from yesterday is something of a red herring, or perhaps more graciously put, chasing after a rather small group of people with a hunger fetish. The kind of hunger that I felt on the day that I did the experiment to skip lunch went away in less than an hour. That doesn't seem like the same kind of physical hunger that I would get if I ever went two days without food. What passes for hunger in my privileged life is a pretty minor brain signal - like the dashboard light saying it's time to change the oil - yeah, but not necessarily this very minute. (Noting that the dashboard light saying that I'm out of oil does mean STOP RIGHT THIS INSTANT or your engine will seize.) And yep, the Volumetrics folks seem to have the right idea for getting to feeling full before the meal is done.

What I strongly agree with, and am grateful to Beck for introducing me to, is that Hunger is Not an Emergency.

Tera (twilit tera) - Kudos for "tolerating hunger waiting for necessary ingredients" particularly since that's the Beck quotes this week. Methinks my better statement is, Kudos for being aware that you were tolerating hunger and proceeding. I suspect that if the thought, hunger reaches my higher brain then I might be able to counter with a Beckian, Hunger is Not an Emergency. My guess is that my Homer Simpson brain just reaches for food and it's only during the postmortem that I might remember that I had been hungry.

And Congrats on a "NEW LOW" scale reading.

ChinaMaine - Kudos for being "very hungry indeed" and for not indulging in food, since tolerating hunger is the virtue of the week, LOL. Congrats on the "old low" scale reading.

Ah, NYC; my dream is to live in New York City for a spell. The dream used to be SOHO, of course, but TRIBECA would do. It would easily take me a year going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to feel like I'd seen it. And to take in a full season of the Metropolitan Opera, symphony, off-off Broadway ... alas and every deli with white fish and lox and bagels, and raisin bread with cream cheese. Obviously you've poked one of my happy buttons, LOL.

Jen (JenMusic) - Yay for family. Yay for being busy. Ouch for crazy.

Susan (jivingandthriving) - Interesting strategy to wear the wrist watch upside down as a reminder that snacking isn't required. Since I look at my watch a hundred times a day when snacking isn't the issue it would take a clever part of my brain to note the one time that it is. But worth considering.

And thanks for the tip to go look for a green shirt after Saint Paddy's day. Makes me wonder what the bars do with the leftover green beer.

Looking forward to your evaluation on your new scale low.

Prove to yourself that hunger isn't an emergency.
...
People who have never struggled with weight or dieting just don't think too much about hunger. They don't think, Oh no, I just finished breakfast ... What if I get too hungry before lunch? They don't feel panicky during a busy day, thinking, What if I don't get a chance to eat? They don't load up on extra food during a meal because they think, I might get hungry later on. No, they know that they can tolerate hunger, that it's never an emergency; and that if they turn their attention to something other than their hunger, the sensation goes away. this can happen for you, too, once you overcome your fear of hunger.

Morning all! Well, scale popped back up to 155 but hey! what is it my response card says about the scale being only one gauge of change?...I tried on about 10 pair of pants first thing this morning for reinforcement and my pants all happily said, yes, you are losing weight, yes we can button. So, I am still feeing happy and positive about the changes. Today I am going to weigh in at TOPS, which I haven't been to in about a month, so it will be nice to see the changes in weight there.

Health plans for the day: 2 exercise dvds and a nice walk while it is mild and before it rains, plus on track eating.

ChinaMaine, wahoo for weight loss! You are probably building muscle as well which would account for change in calorie burn.

Anne, not sure why you think of the soup/salad before meal as useless, unless it's because it's empty calories....which it can be or not, depending upon what you make. I guess I would deviate from the books and make a nice kale soup or arugula salad, which would remove it from the empty calorie category into healthy carb calories.

Bill, you stole my NY dream (grin)! I had two glorious days in NY last year when I stayed with my son's girlfriend (she lives right off Broadway on 57th), and I must have walked miles, hitting galleries, street fairs, the museums, etc. It was glorious. I loved the fact that no matter what time of day or night, there were people around you....the energy level was fabulous.

Wednesday Report

71% OP (food, supplements, AI, 3FC, rest for hip)
Oh, well. I had to correct some last-minute issues with the comic PowerPoint (which is about 3/4 finished at this point) keeping me at the computer just a few minutes late... then went to bed to find another surprise left for hubby, which kept me up late investigating the best way to break cat of bad habit (after stripping the bed). Sleep started for me around midnight. Ugh.

WI: Up 5 (not entirely unexpected after such an extreme drop)

Today's schedule includes finishing the comic presentation, then seeing if I can convert it to something more web-able. B found a PPT to Flash converter yesterday, and I'd like to give it a go.

ChinaMaine: Hooray for returning to your old weighpoint!! for increasing fitness. Yes, people do burn slower as they lose excess fat! The body requires less effort for day to day matters when you have less to carry with you.

Anne: OP. for another great run. Hooray for drama-free day.

Regarding calorie calculations... I knew it! All that hullaballoo about how much exercise you need and how many calories to burn and it all comes down to guessing! I'm going to have to feel my way through this, it seems. If I get stuck again, I'll consider whether to increase intensity, increase duration, or what.

Susan: for getting a "second opinion" from your trousers when the scale said something you didn't like!

breakfast time!

Default checking in and saying hey

so, hey! my lizard brain finally kicked in and screamed GET OFF THE ROLLER COASTER NOW!, so i'm taking a few (3) days off work and in-laws are taking el nino this weekend. got a haircut, the oil changed, but mostly i've been shopping for new clothes. like a demon. it's almost all i've done the last two days. realized how little i care about eating when i'm into my day - it's almost an annoyance. i was in danger of falling back into some pretty crappy habits and this jumped the brain train right out of that rut. YAY.

watching el nino on the monitor (had the genius idea to set it back up, so i could watch him from the study and yell "BACK IN BED" without him even seeing me) so now he knows he's being watching, but i can sit comfortably while he gets himself down. it still takes an inordinate amount of time, but i can be on the computer with the lights on while he does it. not nearly as unpleasant, and hopefully he'll get it ingrained that he can't get out of bed because i am always watching. last night it took 45 minutes, looks more like 30 tonight. another YAY.

tonight is also DH's last night of class. poor guy. i bought him a big bottle of chimay grand reserve beer for when he gets home. it's been rough on him.

too much to catch up on - i'm looking forward to getting back in the beck swing of things, and definitely lurking if not posting, just because it feels so good to just take care of myself for a little bit. i still have to find the perfect pair of black pants and jeans. being a size 12 petite does make shopping a TON easier (i went crazy yesterday and ended up returning most of what i'd bought, because i didn't really like it - i was just on fire that it fit ) but it's still hard finding things that are the right shape and really flattering. might post pictures of the hot shoes and cute dress i found today. DH and i are having a proper date night on saturday. am planning on getting all gussied up with my sassy new haircut. i'll have DH take a picture then and post it, so y'all can see i'm working my way out of my icky slump.

cheers! love! thanks for the waves!!!!

Wink Thursday - just one more day til Friday!

a muddy, lazy dog.
Beck – WI-up .5 lbs. Exercise – op. Food – op.
We live at the end of a 1 ½ mile dirt road. For those of you who haven’t been to this particular corner of the northeast, we have something called ‘mud season’. It occurs late winter, early spring when the frost is still in the road. As the weather warms the top 1 + inches defrost. Snow on the edges of the road melts, etc. The upshot is that the road freezes and defrosts almost every day. But the melting snow can not drain down through the earth, because underneath everything is still frozen. (Or that’s all my husband and I can figure anyway.) And so, the water is trapped on top of the road with nowhere to go -- the road becomes a writhing cesspool of mud. Driving up and down the road is like playing bumper cars with one car. Heaven forbid if I meet another car on the road, because there’s no knowing which way my car (or theirs) will decide to go.
Every morning I head out with my dog for a 1 mile walk. I’ve never had a lazy dog before, but my current dog, Moose, is not a big fan of walking. Once he’s done 'his business', he’d much rather just go home. But since he’s as generously proportioned as I, he gets to walk a mile a day whether he likes it or not. If there’s mud or rain, he would much prefer to just skip the walk altogether. He’ll stand at the front door and give me a baleful look – as if is my power to change the elements. I walk him with a 16’ retractable leash. This morning he walked the first half of the walk behind me, the leash fully extended. As soon as we hit the halfway point and turned towards home, he was in front of me, leading the way home (with great alacrity). Laughing at Moose kept me from dwelling on my own acrobatics in trying to stay upright and out of ruts and puddles.
Anne Another ho hum day – congrats! Good luck with the new hours.

Bill Too bad about missing your gym day – another day I’m sure! And too bad on so many phone calls… Yum on corned beef and bean soup! Credit for a good attitude and making your plan work. It hadn’t occurred to me to give myself credit for NOT eating when I was hungry (after eating ice cream instead of hummus). Credit moi indeed!

Bill, Susan NYC is the best city isn’t it?? I love the energy I feel when just walking down the street. And the parks, Central Park is a treasure. My son and I walked around the park for 3 days, and still saw a fraction of it. But, unlike you two, I have no desire to live there. I’m a country girl at heart. But I would love to have the $$ to visit for a week or more at a time several times a year. And then go home and soak up the birds, the silence, the stars and the lake… Today I heard of a book called Delirious New York, which sounds fascinating: http://www.amazon.com/Delirious-New-...dp/1885254008/

What are your 5 favorite places? Mine: Central Park, Washington Square, Brooklyn Bridge, any ferry after dark, and Grand Central Station at 5 PM.

Susan Hooray for the loose pants!! That indeed is a better metric than the scale! I hope you are right about my building muscle – I desperately need to!

Tera Credit for 71% op. and too bad about the bad cat behavior!

Jeanie What a happy, wonderful post! Thank you for cheering me up! I’m glad you are taking a few days for yourself. And so glad you are happy shopping for clothes. You’ve earned these good feelings with all your hard work. And glad DH’s classes are finishing up. Is this for this quarter, or is he done for good?

Coaches/Buddies Mostly on plan today. Had an extra banana when I was hungry and the plan was a little light on calories, so, yay. Did a lot of tolerating hunger since DH had to work late, and my dinner was postponed dealing with DD & DS at gymnastics night. I'm going to go play with the Wii and do some core after this. Make my plan for tomorrow. I'm riding, possibly swimming if I feel up to it, and pretty much nothing else.

Bill Sorry about your gym session, but the bean soup sounds fab.

I still don't know what to think about the hunger thing. I've been living with the ambiguities for so long, and mostly successfully at that, so hey, if it ain't broke... I too am glad I live in such a time and place that I have the luxury of contemplating hunger in this sort of philosophical way.

Susan I think the pants-o-meter beats the scale any day.

I perhaps overstated the useless aspect of a pre-meal broth soup or simple salad. I don't especially enjoy them, and would rather have a nice big serving or broccoli or carrots with the meal, or a real soup with beans and veggies. Since my portions are predetermined, I stop when I'm done so I don't really need extra "stop" signals. I do often use this technique when I'm eating out, my portions aren't so controlled, and I have a dessert tray to pass up.

Tera Sorry you were up so late, and bad, bad scale.

The calorie calculations are in fact calculations, but since everybody is different, they are educated guesses of course. I also have a theory that the cardio machine makers sort of choose the optimistic formulas for their machines so people will demand them for the "better workout" so I adjust appropriately. But, walking and running are very well studied, and if you can use that to calibrate, you can make some refinements to your other activities.

Jean I'm so glad your instincts kicked in and got you a much needed break. Good luck with getting el nino stabilized, and getting re-Becked! Keep taking care of yourself.

ChinaMaine Poor muddy doggie! You are doing both of you good by getting him out there.

Off to plan and Wii!

Thumbs up Friday - First day of Spring

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Made the gym. CREDIT moi. Did my despised lunges. CREDIT moi. One and three quarter pull ups. CREDIT moi. It motivates me to be surrounded by folks working out hard. The New-Year's-Resolution crowd is long gone. A plus-sized woman was doing lunges with a trainer, very awkwardly like it was her first time. I wanted to give her a hug, but, if I had no other deterrent, she had this I hope no one can see me look in her eyes. A middle-aged woman with not a single gray hair was competently and quietly working good sized weights. Spent my elliptical session for the second time between two younger African-Americans. The demographics of my gym are looking up. Neat!

Am taking off for the weekend with friends - off to such places where the web doesn't penetrate. Some camaraderie, some exercise, maybe some nice birds, certainly contemplating my place in the universe. So, no posts from me on Saturday or Sunday. Have a nice weekend; see you Monday.

Jean (kuhljeanie) - Kudos for having a lizard brain with the right stuff. Yay for being into your day - what a good reminder how unnatural we can let our lives become. Kudos for buying clothes and special Kudos for being "on fire" about shopping. Accept those Kudos for what they're worth given that the second thing I would do with great wealth is to hire a valet to buy my clothes so that I'd never have to step foot in such a joint ever again. (First thing would be to hire a butler to remove those pesky little labels from bananas.)

Robin (RobinW) - Waving back. Yay for remaining "OK" on the scale. Yay for remaining sane enough to pop in. Will continue to send calming thoughts for the duration leading up to your networking event. Presumably your DD is still on Spring Break contributing to your load of things to deal with.

Anne (wndranne) - Ho hum. Ho hum. It's gotta be called a good day when its worst thing is snarfing an extra potassium stick. Kudos for a "lot of tolerating hunger."

Tera (twilit tera) - Yay for working on your Comic PowerPoint. It delights me to think of a creative use of Power Point since most of my engineering work these days is done with that d*rn tool while the hot shots get to work with compilers and hardware. Ouch for an errant cat.

ChinaMaine - Kudos for walking in mud season. You must get about twice the exercise doing that. LOL at having a lazy dog. LOL again at having a dog in Maine named Moose. Thanks for the pointer to Delirious New York; went right on my Amazon shopping list to be pondered later. Yep, Central Park could certainly consume three days.

Susan (jivingandthriving) - Kudos for the sane attitude about the scale readings. Yay for happy talking pants saying "yes.". (Cheeky guys, them. [Ouch]) Love reading of your NY visit. Congrats on having the relationship with your son's girlfriend that you can stay with her.

Before you start dieting, you need to know, without a doubt, that you can tolerate hunger - because from time to time you will feel hungry. The Think Thin Initial Eating Plan will minimize hunger, but it won't eliminate it completely. To avoid ever experiencing hunger, you'd have to eat constantly. Many of the dieters I've worked with have told me that it was such a revelation to learn that they could wait to eat until the next planned meal or snack. Not only were they freed from their fear of hunger, but also they found they actually enjoyed meals and snacks so much more when they were a little hungry.

Thursday Report

75% OP (Food, Supplements, AI, 3FC, electronics, bed)
Oh, well. I reached for something by my foot again. And my hip hurts again. So I wasn't able to do PT. "My mama always told me stupid is as stupid does." Okay, moving on.

WI: back down 2

Yesterday it occured to me that what I needed was a sheath or holster for the reacher I got from Mom last weekend. I've been reaching down to put shoes in my locker at the fitness center, and that's probably been one source of strain. Also, if picking things up off the floor is a trigger, then I've probably been overdoing PT too.

Today I noticed a hole in my reacher. I ran a nylon cord through it. It goes over my shoulder!

The comic PowerPoint is done... now to find a free host that'll let me upload it!

Jean: for taking care of yourself!!!!! I'd love to see the pictures of you in your new clothes!

ChinaMaine: Hooray for Friday! for being OP still!! for finding the fun in your dog and your mud- I mean walk! About the cat, it really was our fault. We're going to train him to use the people toilet, but we got a bit gung ho and changed too much too fast. We're starting him over in his tray and we'll gradually transition him to the new training pan this time, but to "hit the reset" button, we had to make sure that ALL of the odor from his business was eliminated from the bed.

A thought about your 5 favorite places in NYC... I can recognize all of the places you mentioned by sight, and I've never stepped foot there. About what other city can a person say that?

Anne: for tolerating hunger to stay on plan, and going "kind of off plan" with a banana and not something ickier for your body.

I think this thread is the best commercial I've ever seen for Wii. If I had more space in this apartment, and happier joints, I'd have bought one by now.

Robin: back atcha! Nice to see your kitty avatar again!

Bill: for gym! for lunges! I understand about wanting to hug people who probably would rather go unnoticed. I had that experience a couple of weeks ago, with a very over-sized woman getting instructions on one of the machines at the fitness center. I just wanted to congratulate her for making such a good decision, but I didn't want to embarrass her, or do anything that would discourage her returning. Oh, well.

Have a wonderful time on your primitave weekend! Well... by the time you see this post, you'll probably have already.

Happy Friday, everybody!

Hi all, happy spring! Going to get cold here again. Can't wait until we have a series of warm days so I can go out, trim hedges and plants, prepare soil, and dig up weeds left over from last year. My fingers are itching to get into the soil.

My favorite things in new york....not so much places but people and situations. I LOVE the people, the polyglot of people...the idiosyncratic dress, hats, makeup, faces, people's stances, the snippets of conversation, watching people sitting in stores/ restaurants with big picture windows, on trains, the people walking their dogs, the music on the streets, street vendors....oh, don't get me started. Someday I'm going to do a whole series of paintings of people waiting at bus stops.

Tera, can we get to see your comic on line?

Bill, pull ups are mega hard. Very impressed. Can you try doing other kinds of lunges that might be more enjoyable....side lunges, for instance, or lunging back instead of forwards, or visa versa. Or stick with squats...I love squats, do not particularly enjoy lunging but don't mind doing them if I alternate front, side, back.

Anne what do you mean your portions are predetermined? Do you portion them out ahead of time and store them in the frig?

ChinaMaine, when I think about mud I think about little kids...I remember teaching kindergarten, and the kids loved going out on the playground after a rain and splashing around.

Kuhljeanie, look forward to seeing your pictures. While I've been losing, I've found the thrift stores and consignment stores the best bet for pants. Since I plan on (fingers crossed here) dropping a few sizes I don't want to spend alot on pants, and I can usually find some good buys there.

I wasn't going to tell you all, but what the heck, I'm going to go to a hypnotist on Monday about my weight. I told myself that if I could start to do it on my own, which I have done, I would see if I could use hypnosis as an added support, to bolster my resolve. Since I've never done it before, I can't tell you what it's like, but will let you know after Monday. Am getting a little nervous about it...

Back to an empty nest and a big por moi! I stuck to my plan / rules during DD's entire spring break visit. There were a few wobbly episodes but overall it was relatively easy, so a big CREDIT to my coaches for building my confidence; I know self-confidence was a major factor in my success. That, and planning, planning, planning. So NEXT weekend should be a real challenge. I'm taking DS to tour another college and staying with my sister. Planning specifics will be next to impossible. So far my tactics include bringing my own food and snacks and focusing on what I have control of, reading my cards and keeping up my success skills check off chart. I'll use health reasons to be assertive.

Bill Isn't it amazing how at home you can become at the gym? When I see newbies looking uneasy, I want to reassure them, just keep coming, it gets better. And I never set foot in the Y until a year ago. I've met so many fascinating people.

Have a wonderful time in the wilderness. We'll miss you.

Tera down 2! Good thinking on the reacher shoulder strap

jivingandthriving I think that's great you are going to a hypnotist. Cognitive therapy could be construed as a conscious self-hypnosis. The fact that you are moving outside your comfort zone and trying something new is evidence of your determination! Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Anne Your self-motivation continues to impress me. I don't do a darn thing if it doesn't involve a class, and I usually need a "buddy meet" to get me there! I can verify the cardio machine makers are doing their own version of motivation; the elliptical calculates a much higher calorie expenditure than my polar watch, even with the same age/weight data. I'm finding I care less and less about calories spent than HR working at.

chinamaine Moose mud walk - lots of core work with that balancing act! staying OP.

kuhljeanie Loved reading your happy post, so glad you're able to get out of a rut and into a groove. Have a wonderful time Saturday.

to all!
