Hi Nancy and

I think Beck has been the best for the "psyc" issues I have. Ive tried many things, including overeaters anon. Beck seems to keep me on an even keel and has helped me deal with issues that always come up for me. Coming here every day helps so much!!! We tend to remind each other of things we may be doing and not even notice it.

Here is a perfect example....Bill talked about difficulty of refraining from eating the broken cookie pieces, but found it very simple to walk past the entire tray of cookies. When he posted this, the night before I had made some loaves, and ate the broken pieces that fell off when I was cutting them into portion pieces. I didnt even think about it until Bill mentioned the cookie pieces the very next morning. ......stuff like this reminds me why Beck works so well for me.

Default Friday night late report

Evening coaches,

An OP day for calories. CREDIT MOI for doing this while dining out with DH and celebrating news of DD's formal engagement. Managed to restrict alcohol to 1.5 glasses, not too bad considering we would normally order a bottle and I would have half. Credit for entree order of raw coho salmon and double credit for asking waitress to swap standard side of potatoes for extra steamed broccoli. Selected portabella mushrooms for appetizer and not even tempted to order desert.

Not a planned exercise day. Got in a little walk tonight...but otherwise, not too much in unplanned exercise. Pool day tomorrow.

Earlier in week cleaned out the closet a bit. I am down about a size and a half, so had a lot of clothes that are too big. Decided I am not gaining back there, so clothes now packed in box ready to go to charity. Now just have to pull the trigger and get them out of the house.

Tigerseye- Welcome to the Beck board! Most of us have used either the book or the workbook but have not bought both. Beck deals with the thinking behind eating healthy. She discusses many mental sabotage habits, including emotional eating. We are a friendly board...hope you get either the book or workbook and join us!

onebyone-Ouch for pressure of deadlines, time pressure and stress. Keep at it in spite of challenge! Woohoo for having a free workshop with great visiting artist Wow for making puppet and animation!

angelmomma210- that you will hear good news today. Yeah for your being in touch with diet coach and finding another friend to diet too!

twilit tera-Ouch for increasing homework. Kudos for finding time for good habits in spite of workload. WTG on beating cravings. I am looking forward to a time that I can say that I have kicked them.

RobinW-at you. Thanks for another reminder that those little bites sneak into life and add up, even if we don't remember to count them....especially if no one sees us eat them.

BillBlueEyes-Woohoo for passing up fresh baked cookes, and chips. WTG for asking for healthier choices...even if next round not until Jan, 2009. Way to keep changing your environment to meet your health needs...awesome. Every little change adds up.

Have a great Saturday all!

Am sleepy with big weekend ahead.

Friday
OP Food
OP Supplements (schedule was off but i got them all in)

Not a planned exercise day and no time really for unplanned, so.. I do what I can and don't worry 'bout the rest, right? Got all the most urgent work done.

Tigerseye! Actually, the Beck Solution is very much about all the psychological "tricks" we play on our self that cause us to fail at our diets. It's not a diet plan, more of a companion book to give you the mental tools to stick to whatever plan you are on.

And as others have mentioned, this is a very supportive board. I hope you'll stick around a while.

sorry i can't stay for personal replies, folks. I'm so tired I'm barely typing straight.

G'night.

Welcome to the Beck Diet Solution Discussion Group, Support Group, Diet Coach Group.

And, in case you didn't get this when you joined a year ago,

How did you find out about Beck? And how did you find our discussion group here?

Hi BillBlueEyes,

I have been jumping back and forth to different diets in 3FC thinking I was just not on the right diet (whichever one I was on at the moment)...until I realized it wasn't the "wrong diet" but it was more of a compusion rather than just wanting an extra snack or 2 that wasnt "op". I was using food to cope, or numb, or something. so I went over to the OA board and someone mentioned Beck. I had never clicked on the thread before, but Im glad I did. Since Ive been jumping around so much I feel like I dont know where I belong and where to settle...I hope its here

Thumbs up Saturday

Diet Coaches - Packed my lunch of leftovers: kale with sauteed onions, pinto beans, and garden fresh broccoli. Then realized that I need a main dish, so added some leftover stuffed grape leaves. hmmmm.... now that's some progress in the mindset of an old carnivore, when my full meal has no meat portion. CREDIT moi. My head was full of reasons not to take my lunch time walk, but I needed almond extract to make granola this morning so urged myself forward. CREDIT moi. Wherever it resides, that generator of reasons for not doing things, it sure is consistently ready to come into action.

Robin (RobinW) - Hope you had a great day and have a full weekend off.

onebyone - Ouch for having a rough time. Yay for the FREE workshop with Graeme Patterson. Your puppet is wonderful, does it have a name? Have you scripted its motions for your 4 second clip?

shrinkin - Congratulations on your DD's formal engagement. And BIG Kudos for celebrating on plan. Yay for getting larger clothes out of your life.

angelmomma210 - Hoping that supervisor's supervisor talk went well. Continuing to send supportive thoughts.

tera (twilit tera) - Ouch that "Homework is reaching critical mass." Kudos that you include this board for keeping your head straight even when overloaded.

Nancy (Tigerseye) - RE "...can someone tell me if Beck is for emotional eatting as well?" Yep, that's what Beck is all about. For those Sabotaging Thoughts like I can't do this, or just this one bite, and all the other ways that easily take us off track. As Robin (RobinW) noted, coming here every day helps with the "psyc" issues.

Readers -
"the solution at a glance
if you struggle with weight loss, you have a different mindset about food and eating than people who don't struggle with their weight." Beck, pg 43.

Thumbs up Saturday wk3day6 ver 2.0

Good Morning Becksters!

I had a surprise in my email this morning. Penelope, my former ceramic studio boss, emailed me and asked if I'd be interested in teaching some kid's classes on Saturday's in the spring and possibly week long workshops in the summer.
The $ is like double what I've ever made working for anyone ever. Kind of enticing. I wrote her back and said YES.

My personal policy is to say yes to opportunities and to never say NO until I have actually tried it and figured out I don't want to do that. I can't say I don't like it if I haven't done it.

I have one worry: I've never taught a class before except for once when I spoke to a university class as a visiting lecturer...my prof thought I should "give it a try to see how it feels" (he told me that afterwards... guess he thought I should be doing that) and last year Penelope had me supervise/teach her ceramic class when she couldn't make it. She got in trouble for asking me, a student, but she was only sorry she couldn't ask me again she said. now she's in a job with the city coordinating art programs and this came across her desk I guess... and she thought of me! How COULD I say no? All you teachers out there, I may need some advice! Oh and the other thing is: I don't have kids, have never really been around kids and never felt the urge to do that so they are a mystery to me. So that aspct makes me nervous. I don't know what kids can and can't be expected to do...? How do I construct a course without knowing this? I'm sure I'll get lots of help so i'm not too worried and it is MONTHS away... a great opportunity if I can get it right for sure. SO EXCITED

I am getting ready for the workshop so I'd better go. I WILL be packing my 2 snacks and my lunch today... and will bring a water bottle.

Tigerseye Hi! welcome. I recommend you get the workbook. It is very clear what you do each day and you get to tick off boxes and you have space to write in and it becomes a journal as you go through the Beck Program. It's all in one place with the workbook. I have never been able to get my hands on the book and it's been fine with the one. I'd have both if I could but the journal was all I needed and need. beck helps you with the things a diet doesn't: how to stick to it, how to get back on it, how to be sane and rational around food and what to do if you're not. It's really essential and becomes second nature after a time. 42days of Beck will not cure you, but it will change you. You are welcome to do it here. That's why we're here too.

Ah The Procrastinator Engine... I have that too. It revvs up just as I need to move forward into the next phase of _____ whatever! "Luckily" I am so pressed for time and deadlines my Procrastinator Engine is deprived of fuel--it's going to other places but I hear from it everyday. It is indeed a well-oiled machine. Great job getting what you need to stay healthy and happy inspite of it.

twilit tera Have a great weekend!

shrinkin Good job boxing up those clothes now persist in victory and get them out of your house! No looking back! Kudos for swapping out standard restaurant food for better restaurant food

RobinW Here's to a great weekend for you!

angelmomma210 I don't know if you've heard anymore about your DH's situation but I can tell you will be okay no matter what. VERY HAPPY to hear you and your diet coach are in touch along with someone else. this is great news. Wishing you both an enjoyable weekend.

Gotta run now.

Can't believe this but the supervisor has an another week for an extension. I am really getting upset about this...they seem to be just dragging it out. Well...my plan is to start rereading beck and my diet plan. I need to do something to fill in the emotional times..so that I do not eat my way through this week. Will be so glad when this is over. Coming here and being able to share is important for me...do not have that many people that I can talk to. Thank you all for listening to my ramblings..you are wonderful friends.

Morning

onebyone~ congratulations on the job offer!! Very nice! I think I understand what you are asking in regards to kids....but I have a contact here in buffalo that you may be able to pick her brain if you want. Im not sure how close to what she does is what you will be doing with the kids. She owns a paint your own pottery shop just down the street from me. She also deals with kids and has been involved recently in some very large numbers of little ones! She would be more than willing to offer help/info on that if you want. Let me know and I'll get her contact info to you.

Bill~ Big Kudos for your meatless meal!! AND your walk to the market

shrinkin~ Awesome job for swapping out stuff for veggies! I love coho salmon! Hmmm, I think I should go get some for tomorrow's supper....that sounds really nice.

Tera, Nancy, Angel

Im at work today I was out most of the day yesterday doing installations, and with the friday traffic, everything took 2x as long as if I was out and about on a monday. That means that all the printing I had planned for yesterday afternoon, has to get done today to keep me on schedule with my deadlines. Oh well.........the coffee is hot, the sun is shining, and its a beautiful crisp day. I promise myself to be out of here by 4 so that I can at least enjoy some of this glorious day!

Have a great saturday everyone!

Another rushed post, but a very exciting day.

Not OP food, unfortunately...
Almost OP supplements - a very near miss (all but my herbal metabolic enhancer)
LOTS of spontaneous activity all over the Addison Wellness Expo.

My Advocare group had a booth there and I was zipping all over the place - either taking a break from the booth by browsing others, getting samples of energy drink out to other venders or (on a couple of occasions) just getting outside and away from the noise! Met some wonderful people, had a lot of fun, collected some leads.

Got new glasses, (slightly weaker prescription to reduce eyestrain,) signed up at the Addison health center which is practically FREE and they have an indoor pool and everything!

Went out to eat at Norma's which is an old fashioned diner. Did well, but ordered burger and fries. Ate slowly, not all of the burger and only about 4 fries, all told. Stopped before stuffed... woo, that has a ring to it! Stop before Stuffed!

Got all the info I need to build that labyrinth workshop tomorrow, but will probably have to work on it during church services tomorrow. Fortunately, they have an area outside the sanctuary that you can hear the service and still Get Stuff Done.

Gotta run! :group hug: Ah'll be bahck!

Default Saturday night

Evening coaches,

OP day today for calories. Credit MOI. Almost too busy to eat. Had many chores to get done before leaving town tomorrow. Got to Y later than expected to find pool closing at 4:30, not 5:30 as I thought. So, only could do 25 min of water exercise before they closed the pool on me. Worked out doubly hard the full 25 min. Oh Well and credit moi.

twilit tera-WooHoo for fun and "getting good leads" at Wellness Expo. High fives for eating slowly, leaving food behind and Stopping before Stuffed.

TigerEye-Kudos for your enthusiastic start!

RobinW-coho salmon is one of my favs too. Ouch for working on gorgeous day but hope you got out in time to enjoy some sunshine.

Angelmomma210-OH NO for another week of waiting. Kudos for plans to reread beck and your plan. Yup, food will not provide the answer you seek...and eating off plan will just add misery.

onebyone- for job offer for double $ and for always saying yes to opportunity! WTG for packing lunch, snacks and water. Persist in victory!

BillBlueEyes-WTG on that healthy lunch! Yay for refusing to allow generator to stop walk for almond extract and double yay for granola.

May or may not get to post tomorrow. Have dinner meeting immediately after arrival in Phily tomorrow late afternoon. Plan to take Beck with me and read relevant chapters on plane.

More work to finish. G'nite all.

Hi All,
thanks for the warm welcome a couple of days ago I made it through day one and two without much problem, I have been pretty successful with the south beach diet so I'll continue with that Day three was interesting as it showed me how often I eat mindlessly. I don't have the thought process that I have to talk myself out of eating standing I don't give it a thought till it's gone and I go "oops shoulda sat down" so tomorrow I'll do day three again.
BillBlueEyes I found out about Beck Diet Solution in a magazine article I read some time ago, the thread I found by searching 3FC where I have been lurking about for a while.
Cheers!!
