Hello girls, would love to join your group here if that's okay?
I have had Alli for about 2 weeks but have been more off it than on. And because of that, no weight loss to speak of. My dh actually came home with it one night, thinking that it might be a good motivation to get going with the weight loss. He's a sweetie, and really does only want the best for me. He knows how much I've struggled with my weight, seen me do the yo-yo thing for years & years, and knows how much I want to lose it.
I am finally ready to do this thing right, follow it to the letter & start dropping some pounds. Enough messing around! Luckily, I have not experienced any TE's at all!
My best friend Melissa (Hun. e. B) told me about you ladies and what fabulous support you have here. I am thrilled to be part and am excited to see us all succeed!
It is great that your hubby is supporting you, it's half the battle really when you can count on it. Good luck with the low fat eating.. have you been trying some exercise?
Hello,
I have been reading your posts and wanting to join in for awhile. But today I am really frustrated with alli and thought why not write, maybe ya'll can give me some pointers. I started alli on 06/29 and as of today i have not lost one single pound. In fact i have gained .4 oz. What the heck? I count my calories and fat grams, and still nothing. I just starting working out this week, but i should have at least dropped something. I also feel fatter instead of smaller. I'm constipated somewhat (TMI), and its frustrating. I'm trying to give it a go and use up at least 1 whole bottle b4 i make any changes, but it doesn't look good. You ladies have done great, and I wonder what the heck is wrong with me? I am 5'4 and 175 now!
I started my "diet" on Friday preparing to take my pills starting today. I haven't started because I'm finding conflicting info between their pamphlet and their website. I called Alli, to ask them what the minimum amount of fat grams are needed to take a pill. Apparently, lots of women are having trouble, like me, getting up to the amount of fat we're supposed to be having. My plan says I should eat 1800 calories a day and get 19g of fat EACH meal. Now, it's already an issue as the info says anything over 15g could cause the "treatment effects".
But, I've been keeping my fitday, for the last two days (that's when I started it), and I'm getting about 19g of fat a DAY. Well, according to the Alli people, if you eat below 12-15g of fat per MEAL, there's no point in taking the pill. And, lower than that level can also bring on the treatment effects as it will if you go higher than 15g.
Because of this, I can't use the pills. I'm a little perturbed as I haven't opened the pills at all, but I can't take the dang thing back because I opened the box to read the pamphlets. Alli didn't disclose this info on their site, so now I'm out $66. I really like what I'm doing.....it tastes great, I'm not hungry at all, and I know it's well rounded. I just can't see eating more fat so I can use a pill. I wish the rest of you good luck with it though. I just wanted to get the info out to you all so you don't waste any money you don't have to. Before you buy the pills, you might want to track what you eat and such for a week on fitday or similar source and see if you will be able to use the pills or not.
Hi kc1casey and welcome, IMO I think exercising is the key. Working up a good sweat just seems to make the body function better, plus I drink more water when I work out. Good luck.
Been a couple of days since I checked in. It took forever last night at the grocery store because I was reading everything on the labels to figure out what the fat content was. I have been eating about 1600 calories a day and have had more than the recommended amount of fat at least once meal a day-kind of to see what would happen. I haven't had any problems, no TEs unless you count a couple globs of oil in the commode bowl. There hasn't been anything that has been difficult.
It has been slow for me and the first two weeks I gained, but then I lost 3 pounds in a week so I can't help but think that it's helping. At least it makes me a heck of a lot more aware of what I am putting in my system!
The book and the website do seem to contradict each other. 15 grams per meal max or 17? I figure I'll go for the higher number and so far its been OK.
I got a 120 pill bottle from drugstore.com for $69.99 and shipping was free so that comes out to 58¢ a pill. I guess that's more than CostCo, but I don't have a membership with them or with Sam's so I'm not complaining. I figure it's still cheaper than Jenny Craig or WW per week.
Soooooooo, everyone who is getting discourgaed, remember that it didn't take just a week to get where you are so don't think that it'll take just a week to get where you want to be! Just try for 10 pounds at a time, or 10% of your weight. I find that saying I want to lose X number of pounds by a certain date doesn't work for me. If I don't hit the goal by that date I go into a tailspin of poor pitiful me-ness. But what ever goal works for you, don't beat yourself up if you don't hit it. Life happens.
I also really think it's an addiction, but unlike booze or tobacco, you can't live without food! I know I can't stop at just one M&M if there is a bowl sitting there. But if I don't have any at all, I don't seem to care. The little taste just gets me started and I can't stop until it's all gone.
Well so much for my babbeling on. Hope all is well with everyone and keep on in your quest to shop in a regular store!
Good Evening girls...just wanted to give you a little update i went and got my starter kit...150 capsules for $67.99, which is $5 more than the website but I'll live. Tomorrow is the day! Cant wait!! Looking forward to meeting my first goal!!
Thanks again for all your great support!
Danielle you'll love it here! Welcome kc1kacey! Katrina way to go on 4 lbs gone!! You are doing GREAT!!
Have a lovely evening everyone, I'm off for a bikeride with my girls!
Welcome kc1kacey. I found that when I eat too low fat I get constipated, maybe that's what's happening? I'm not losing fast with alli, but I wasn't expecting to. I'm using it to modify my eating behavior. Yesterday I started attempting to modify my exercise behavior, so hopefully I'll start seeing more losses soon.
My friend considered taking alli but she doesn't eat much fat - her problem is sugar - so it wouldn't work for her. I'm a fat muncher, I love high fat foods. For me alli provided the encouragement to set them back.
Thanks for the welcome ThinGirl & Melissa! I am happy to be here, hoping that this finally lights the fire under my behind. My dh really can be super duper supportive, but he can also go the other way where he sabotages me with offering me foods he knows that I love love love. Gonna have to watch out for those things and just keep my nose to the grindestone! He doesn't mean to, he also thinks that certain foods make me happy and he, I can honestly say, lives to make me happy. That old saying....."love you to death".....come to mind? LOL
Melissa, hope you had a great bike ride with the girls! I am wondering/hoping that I find my refills here easily as all I seem to keep running across are the starter kits. Tomorrow is the day lady, ya just gotta go for it and hang on for the ride. You can do it!

Wow, this is exactly how I feel! I know now that I can't really be date specific with my weight loss goals because life does tend to get in the way. Best we can do is just keep our eyes open and know this and deal with it as best we can.
I have always felt that people addicted to food have it alot harder to rehab from because there is no escaping food! The best we can hope for is to learn the idea of how to eat to live, instead of living to eat. For some, this concept comes much easier than others. Life would be a heckuvalot easier if we didn't have to eat at all wouldn't it?!

Haha, I know what you mean! I'm trying to diet and subtly influence my BF's outlook on healthy/unhealthy food while I do it, and today he skips lunch, then grabs a giant bottle of Dr. Pepper and a WHOLE BAG of mini chocolate-dipped donuts at a convenience store when we stopped on the way home for gas! He's totally supportive in the ways he knows how to be, but when he offered me one I was rolling my eyes in exasperation.
They really do mean the best, though, don't they?
K.C.: I don't know the solution to your problem, but I can ask, are you drinking plenty of water and getting enough fiber? If not, that could help. If you are, then I'm at a loss! Good luck, regardless, and keep at it!
Its me again. Okay, I got the goods, but I'm wondering. Havent opened the package yet because I've got a concern. Something I've thought about before even buying the stuff. But on the back of the box it says that if you have gallbladder problems that you should consult a doctor before taking it. I I have gallbladder issues, I still have my gallbladder but I've suffered from stones before, I also do not have a doctor or insurance so making a $100 appointment is kinda not an option....what do you think?
Also, it says to take a multi vitamin at night. Well I got these One a day all day energy multi vitamins that I really like and would like to keep taking but cannot take them at night or I wont sleep. do you think its necessary to take it at night?
I think I'll call the number on the box in the morning but I just would like to hear your opinions. Thanks a bunch! Since I plan on having a slimfast shake and some fruit for breakfast it wont be throwing my day off at all to get these questions answered first.
also, my friend has gallbladder issues also and she's been taking alli and not had a problem...not a one even when eating higher fat meals. Just some extra info.
I have missed a few days... but it looks like people are really doing great! I'm finally getting back into the swing of things with exercise and taking the pill. I gained 3 pounds with TOm... but it is gone now. So my weightloss for three weeks is holding steady at 8 pounds. Not too bad considering there was a holiday in there.
I read a couple of posts about being constipated...(I know delicate subject huh) I had that problem for the first 5 days... I had to go back to some of my high fiber tricks that I was using before I started taking alli. The fiber one bars (14 grams per bar) and the fiber one cereal are great tricks for getting your fiber in. For some of you who may not be loosing as much weight... that may be why. Be sure to drink your water with your fiber! I learned that one the hard way!
Melissa: From what I understand about the gallbladder issue is that if you have had one removed that you can have trouble absorbing nutrients and somehow the drug can affect that. There's a few threads on the Alli message board about it, and you can call them and specifically ask them if it would affect you in your condition or not. I would go that route first before you spend a ton on a doc. They may tell you that you have nothing to worry about.
Thank you Katrina...I'm planning on calling them in the morning to ask about the vitamin thing too so hopefully they'll answer my questions and not refer me on. Thanks so much for the response!
