Howdy everyone - thanks for the clarity re the Combat bars - I thought I had looked at them before and decided they were definite no no's.... fascinating thought about the slow loss strategy IP corporate may be pursuing.... I do know there are a lot of new food items since my clinic closed. But with recipes I am happy with the basics.
Destony - thanks for the generous PM's - it's great to connect but please don't feel compelled to write there and shortchange the bigger group here on the threads! You are always at the heart of good conversation over here, and no one wants to miss you cause you needed to get out the door to work!!!
Beth - sorry you are dealing with injury - you runners love it, and anything that interferes can really be aggravating. I have sciatic pain that has flared up and the most intense plantar fasciitis I have every had, and just in the right foot. I hobble out of bed in the morning lately, until I have moved around enough to be not so stiff and to get past the pain. I am seeing a PT and getting some therapeutic massage to work on it. All this to say I have not been dancing - caregiving prevented me from going to the studio since October, and now I am feeling so porky that I don't want anyone to see how I have regained so much weight.
But - I need to suck it up and just go - moving is better than sitting here surfing the net... so I hope to get enough flexibility in my joints to get back to it soon. Will keep you all posted.
Glad to have 3FC to come to daily and check in - it means a lot - thanks you guys!!
Hahaha, Destony... another stubborn Italian here (northern... near Venezia) . !My DH knows what you mean, lol, and totally agrees!
BTW, Boat incidents aren't all bad, you should watch the old movie 'Overboard' with Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell.
Cheese was always my thing even when I was little. My mom would say, 'be careful, it will bind you up' but it never has (I know, TMI). Of course, being Italian and growing up with yummy stuff like homemade salami and GOOD cheeses for breakfast, there we go, eh?

Gosh, I'm sorry about the sciatic- I had a problem with that about 20 years ago- I was in retail, a little grocery store in town that I managed, and unloading the tractor trailer of the stock on a weekly basis- did a number - it's since much better, but it was pretty bad there for a while. The foot pain, DBF deals with that - I had a touch, but much better now- he even tried putting a sock on and wrapping it in duct tape, also sleeping with one of his Teva's on...not fun - (for anyone) I hope that you will be feeling up to dancing sooner rather than later. This is your journey, no one elses and pay no mind to them seeing you and whatever weight you have put on. I would hope that many would understand what you've been through and be there to support you and cheer you on.

- yes, and sometimes, stubborn doesn't even scratch the surface...hahaha
Overboard- we love that movie! So fun to watch As for the cheese- when I was a kid- I used to love getting home from school, microwaving a couple of slices of Muenster on a plate, put some ketchup on the side and it was my snack...I agree- never had a problem with the binding issue- now , I guess I am a bit more sensitive. I tried fresh Mozzerella from a place in the Bronx a couple of years ago when we went in to the city to visit some of his cousins...O..M..G.... the heavens opened and angels sang!!! <-serious!!!
Plugging along, got a yoga class in yesterday. Thank goodness because (tis the season) it was the day from **** at work. My newly hired assisitant- having a hard time catching on (my boss has no patience for that-which transfers to me) so I get stressed out, try to keep cool, manage and build with her, everyone wants there services done NOW...can't do it- and I hate saying no, what I really hate is the fact I can't make them happy - so, since the weather was crummy and all the trucks were back I asked if I could leave right at 4 to make the 415 Yoga class. Took me the entire class to "unwind" . Score for me though, I ran to one of the local pharmacy chains (Rite-Aid) for some allergy meds and wandered around and found all the Denise Austin fitness stuff was 75% off!! Need it or not, who am I to pass up a good deal??? So, I picked up a yoga block, one of those resistance bands and a 4 lb. ball. Paid about 15 bucks for the whole lot! Well, today is my dads 81st birthday. I hope that I can have his energy, ability, and mind at that age- still out mowing lawns, and doing "his thing" just a little slower than the old days. He is one of the (more so in the old days when the town was really all local, minus the influx of people who have moved to the Cape) town "characters" the go to guy- a legend if you will. (Not bragging, that really is just the way it is-) "Your his daughter?? What was it like growing up- it must have been awesome" blah blah blah..... Wouldn't trade him for the world! (Even with all of our disfunction) Well, it's time- I wish you all a BEAUTIFUL day filled with all that makes and keeps you strong!!!!
Count me in as another Italian…well, actually, only born there (long story), but since I love all things Italian I am happy to lay claim.
Cheryl, so glad you’re joining our little group, we’re here to help you on this part of your journey, and we’re looking forward to learning from your experiences as well. So sorry to hear you haven’t been able to get back to dancing, I hope you can soon, as I recall from some of your earlier posts, you get so much joy from it.
I just have to complain about the weather…last week I put away my winter coats, washed all my scarves and mittens…foolish, foolish, foolish…had to go out of town yesterday morning, and I knew I’d have to be outside for a good chunk of time… you guessed it -- wore a winter jacket, mittens scarf…same this morning, except a few degrees colder. Ok, I know, compared to what’s happening in other places, like Texas, this seems trivial, but c’mon, I am so ready for some warm days.
I had a strange, scary dream last night, just before I woke up. I was in some big office building, and some guy kept bringing in cakes, you know the kind with the sweet thick icing and colored flowers, leaving them in all the offices … and I kept going from office to office to get a piece – I don’t think I ever did in the dream … Wonder if it has any meaning?? But you know how when you first wake up from a really vivid dream, you’re not sure for a minute if it was real? Woke up scared, and weighed myself, strangely enough I was down a lb from yesterday (still in my 132-133 range).
Finally got my taxes done yesterday though (and even a few days early!!) Refunds for both DH and me this year!!
Anyway, nothing else much new here. Lots of small jobs to get done today, they just seem to accumulate and today is rainy and cold so a good day to get them looked after.
I'm back briefly. I've been reading and not writing. So we got the Combat bars and I like them but DH didn't. He said he liked Quest better and I said they don't make them the same way, and he said he wanted to try different things. Ugh. Phase 4 is in less than 2 days.
Linda Happy Birthday to your dad! He sounds like an awesome guy. Also glad you got in a yoga class. I LOVE yoga.
blue I have food nightmares too. It's really like a trauma response. Our bodies need to warn us about food danger. Oh no! Glad you are in the good weight range. Awesome about the tax returns.
Cheryl Glad you are back. Hope you made it to the dance studio. It's hard to go back after a break though. I still haven't figured out a good work out plan for Phase 4. Eek.
Beth Weather is a bit cool and icky in the DMV. How are you handling it? I did vote on Tuesday...not like it was much fun. But I did my civic duty so that's that. Awesome that you are doing another race. I wish I could find an exercise to get passionate about. *sigh*

I join in on the bandwagon about the cold weather....yesterday morning, it was just above freezing when I went outside for my shower....brrrr....tired of winter clothes, coats and all! I agree though, when I look at wheat others are experiencing...I will shut my pie hole and be glad that I am only bit^&*ng about the cold....
When I first stopeed drinking some....Oh my goodness, I just realized that Saturday will be 11 years....anyhow...and on a rare occasion still, I will dream that I was drinking, and wake up feeling so angry and almost hungover...like I really really have to shake myself awake to realize whether or not it was real. So, the cake thing, makes perfect sense to me- Others have told me in "coffee time" that they experienced the same thing with the drunk dreams.
Congrats on getting your taxes done early and moreso on the refunds!!! Happy dance!!!!!

Wish me luck this weekend! Phase 4 here I come!
Glad you got to try the Combat bars- which flavors did you get? The Victory bar is ok too- but kind of "grainy" i guess- not sure how to describe it.
WISHING YOU A MOUNTAIN OF GOOD LUCK !!!!!! Remember....as I have said - don't overthink it- I did and I was a mess because of it. Besides, we're all here to help and answer your questions.
Hope everyone is doing great- office is quiet for a minute and like Pavlov's dog- I needed a reward and this is it!
Just a quick note as we drive back to our old house. Moving day today, the movers filled the truck, but we left some furniture in the house to stage it. Lots of little stuff left to move and then unpacking too. Finished my 2 weeks of p2, lost 3.4 pounds. I did my first and last p3 breakfast this morning. I had 2 eggs, mixed fruit cup, toast with a little p and milk. First respose from dh, that looks li I ever a lot, shouldn't you just have eggs. I say last because my clinic does ideal complete and wants me to have for breakfast, so it is that plus a carb and fat. I have gotten used to shakes for breakfast so it might be fine. I got the strawberry flavor.

Almost home, got to go.

Just my 2 cents, Sue, but the Ideal Complete is a waste of money. Lots of us successful maintainers never used the stuff. Technically it was only for random times when you are in a big hurry or don't have access to kitchen facilities. Really, they just want a bit more of your wallet. Ask them to show you why it is better than learning how to prepare a proper breakfast.... Liana
Liana, in the phase 3 materials I received there was a newer study referenced as to the reason that ip now requires a meal replacement drink. I will post the study info later. I might like it for during the week, I only purchased one box, so if I hate it I can let her know next week. She has never tried the strawberry, but thought vanilla was a bit sweet.
Busy day for me today - work this morning - finished creating an Excel workbook that involved a lot changes to a set of data... all fairly small print on my little screen - zoom it to read and half the data shifts to the right off the display.... labor intensive morning at the computer. Then off to see the orthopedist who commiserated with me regarding my husband's passing - I had to cry - could not keep from doing it. Very disconcerting, yet I guess it's necessary.
Then off to the integrated wellness center where I have PT but today I had deep tissue massage - my calf muscles are so tight that the right one along with my Achilles tendon has cause plantar fasciitis in my right foot... the right one has been working hard to compensate for the sciatic pain in my left leg, it seem. When I left there, the muscles that had been blobs of cement lumps of tension were released and softened up. I am encouraged to know that with treatment this is going to get better and I am going to get back to dancing.
I confess that I am hungry, but I am not sure if it is emotional hunger or if it is reaction to less quantity of food than I have been having... likely it's emotional. I may have a little bump in the road here - had an extra packet, but of course RESTRICTED!! But I am not giving up. Fresh start tomorrow.
MiWi is right - it was gray and rainy in the DC metro area today - and will be through Sunday - so much for working on the yard this weekend - it will be the middle of next week before things are dry enough to even cut the grass. Mainly I don't like the cold damp temps though. We have had some spectacular Spring days and I am happy to live without jackets these days.
I have lots to do before Monday - gotta drive to Delaware with stuff for the accountant - I may be a bit light in presence here for the next few days, but I'll try to at least poke my nose in the door.
I deleted my old ticker and recreated a new one - hopefully my signature is able to be edited going forward now....
Yup - weather in the DMV went from glorious to s*ck *ugh* This coming from the lady who ran in the middle of January when it was 5 degrees - go figure My body is just ready for some sun / Vitamin D / warmth
Cheryl - That is the crux of my DH's running injury (Achilles) - it started with tight calves. Sounds like the deep tissue massage helped - not sure how you feel about chiropractic but I've been seeing Dr. Anne Sorrentino for a little over a year now - started when, what I thought was my sciatic, acted up and locked my lower back last year...only to find out (thanks to Dr. Sorrentino) that all along, it's been my hips and gluts!
She is now located in Tyson's, off Rt. 7 near the Tesla dealership: http://www.drannesorrentino.com/
I highly, HIGHLY recommend her, if you're open to these types of treatment. DH, who has been adverse to ANY type of "treatment" went yesterday and was impressed. This coming from someone who really dislikes being touch, kwim? I can't even massage him.
Blue - so jealous...really sounds like you got maintenance in the bag - you go with your bad-self sorry about the weather & totally empathize! Glad you got your taxes done I always feel like I just had a bad tooth pulled once they are done
Sue - the P3 meal replacements are really very new & I am not sure how accurate or unbiased the information given to you by an IP coach is going to be - especially if its a study done by IP, kwim?
I am sure for some it is a good transition...but *getting on soap box* - many of us are on P1 for 12 weeks or more (almost 40 weeks for me). P3 is, imvho, the most important stage leading to maintenance and the drinks seem like a complete cop-out to me.
1. Its a $$$$$ grab - any of the pre-made IP products are 2 - 3 times more expensive than the others
2. It lessens the amount of time coaches have to spend with clients preparing them for P3 - there is your protein source, now just add a fruit, fat, and grain...easy-peasy
What good does this really do?
I think what many of us found is taking the time in P3 to work on the breakfast macros and eating whole foods helped us with the transition to P4 & beyond. If it works for you though, yay
Candi - I know it seems sacrilegious to not like Combat but my DH only tolerates the Chocolate PB flavored Combat bars - found out he really only likes the Quest Cookies and Cream protein bars
Linda - fwiw, the one Victory bar I tried - I believe peanut butter something - went in the trash after one bite. I seriously thought it tasted & had the texture of playdoh...and yes, I ate some in my youth at least the weather should put people off their landscaping plans for a bit
This weather needs to break and I believe it's next Tuesday before we see the sun again. Luckily we got out this past weekend and got a chunk of the yard work done - but still need to trim the shrubs, clean up the front flower beds, spread mulch, and get the garden ready.
I can't believe DH is doing the garden again this year...I said we should till it up, add some really rich top soil and let it rest for a season...the farmers market is right up the street...but he is insistent *shrug*
Trying something a little different with my training for the June 13.1 - the app I've been using encourages a run/walk (4 min / 1 min) - I ignored it training up to the RnR 13.1 and just ran...more research though showed run/walk can be just as effective and so I started this week. We'll see - so far it's only been on the treadmill. Tomorrow will be the first outdoor test.
Hys has it right, Sue... What is the use of a protein source given to you by IP when you still have to add fruit, grain, & fat? We already know how to pick a 'real' protein from P2 lunches and dinners experience. P3 gives us that chance to learn how to plan meals properly for P4 (maintenance).
BTW, hys... hope your run/walk goes well. It is d*mn frustrating when illness or injury holds us back from our regular exercise. I have been going through that lately too, missing my aquacize/deep water run classes because I'm just too exhausted these days.
Blue... lucky gal getting taxes back! I will get back about $400 but DH must pay almost $5600 since he doesn't 'loan' the government any money during the year. He moaned and whined but I had to remind him that most people have taxes taken off the top of their pay at each cheque. Since he runs his own business, it's a smart idea for him to stick some away in a business savings account at each deposit, then he will already have a large lump sum ready for tax time. Anyhow we are pulling it from different savings accounts (and waiting on large accounts receivable) so no big worries actually.

Cheryl glad to hear the tissue massage has given you some relief . Here’s hoping you’ll be getting back to the dancing soon!
Hungry days, I had lots of them, I think we all did, don’t forget all the tricks to get past it – hot tea, cucumber slices, egg whites were my go-to’s and quite often helped.
Candi – YAY!!! P4!! You maintainer, you!!!
Sue, hope your move went off without a hitch yesterday. You’ve been so amazingly organized, I’m sure it did!
Nice loss on P2!!
I have to agree about the IP Complete, there may be studies that show the benefits, but like Liana and Beth, I have to agree that the P3 real food breakfasts and the work I did to learn what they should be was so beneficial, to me at least, for ongoing success in maintenance. Maybe the packet will make P3 easier, but once you get to P4, let’s face it, you’re going to have to learn how to eat breakfast anyway.
However, since you have some, give them a try, you may like using them, and in any case your assessment may well help the next people going into P3
Beth– hope the adjustment in training gives you good results in the race…although it seems every race, you come back and say you’ve got a new personal best. The running seems to come so naturally to you. I think there’s always been a runner inside you just waiting to be set free.
Liana – yeah, taxes, ugh!!! big PITA! but have to say my “refund” isn’t exactly that – I have my own small business too (really small, but it does generate some income)…so I pay some tax by installments, and some of that refund is just getting some of it back. Better than having to pay though.
We have a casino here in town, though in the more than 10 years we’ve lived here, only been there 2 or 3 times. But we were at a home show last month, and they were giving out vouchers, so this morning we decided to go over for breakfast, and use up our $40 in vouchers in a wild hour of gambling. Didn’t win of course, though DH came out with $10, which paid for breakfast, so a break even. We had a few other errands in town, got some garden soil, some other stuff, so the morning is pretty much gone.
Have lots to do inside this morning, and more rain on the way today, so a good day for that.
Happy Friday, all, and hope today is the start of a great weekend!
Quick post while I ride from one house to another. First my folks are awesome, helping me with the houses. Dad had to trim the cabinet above the fridge so it would fit. Mom helped me unpack all day yesterday.
Well I decided since I had time I would do a traditional p3 breakfast today. 1 had 1 slice Dave's killer bread 120 cal, 22 carbs total, 2 gm fat 5 gm protein , 2 eggs 140 kcal, 0 carb, 10gm fat, 12 gm protein, 1 cup raspberry 12 gm carb, 1 gm protein, aND 6Oz of fat free Greek yogurt 6.8 gm carbs and 17.2 gm of protein. I think it was 410 cal. Evaluation please. I will likely mix it up with both shake and reg. P3 breakfast. Today's was great, sure looked like a lot of food.

Blue move went ok, took longer than expected and the dropped the refrigerator that we were moving from the new house to the old...thankfully it seems to be working. The strawberry complete was ok, if I mix for work I am going to add fruit and yogurt, but if that is the fat do I need to get the regular?
Sounds like you had a nice morning at the casino. I am not much of a gambler, but on the last cruise I was going to donate 10 bucks on the penny slots, I quit when I was up 100, I played a little more and think I ended up loosing 20 of it later in cruise.
