So I'm almost to my first weigh in (tomorrow) and already down 6 lbs on my scale. I've definitely learned that planning and having a back up is going to be the key to success for me! And have learned and been motivated by so many of you posters!
What kind of "rewards" have you all been giving yourselves for short term achievements? I can't wait for the wardrobe makeover at my goal weight, but think that smaller treats along the way are a great idea, too.
Well starting day 4 and down 6lbs this morning. Yesterday was the hardest of the 3, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be My first goal is the 250 mark and thinking about rewarding myself with a night out dancing with the wife (she needs to de stress too). Well being the graceful white guy I am I need a drink or 3 to loosen up haha. Do y'all think this is a good reward for my first goal or should it wait for my final goal?
I found EAS AdvantEDGE vanilla shakes at sam's anybody use this product? They are filling and tasty hopefully it doesn't slowdown my progress.

I'm still pretty new here, so I don't know what the process is for making a new thread... but can we make a thread for this? I'd really like to have it to refer to, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who would find it valuable. We could call it rewarding ourselves/cheering up, WITHOUT food, or something like that. (I just cruised Chicks in Control, because that seems like a great thread to go in that forum, but I didn't see it there, either.)
Rewards
Anyway, whenever I've tried to lose weight in the past, I've made a list of things that I want, and I attached mini-goals to those things. On that list, last time around, I had a teapot, some earrings, a manicure. I haven't made a list for this time, but if I do, I think I'm going to put "really nice makeup" on it, somewhere at least 50 pounds down. (I do not "girl" well. I've never gotten great with makeup. And if you buy nice enough makeup, someone will teach you how to put it on!) There's some nice-smelling lotion I want, which I'd probably put on there. I have a bracelet that I got myself at a mini-goal, last time I lost weight, and I haven't wanted to wear it, after gaining a bunch back. I think I'll give myself the right to wear it again as one of my mini-goals, this time, which might sound stupid, but it will be pretty psychologically powerful for me. And I guess that's the point: pick meaningful things, if you can. You'll notice a lot of mine appeal to my sense of vanity. If you can tie your rewards to your motivation for losing weight, that makes them more powerful. (Vanity isn't my only motivation, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't one of them. Ease of travel is another one, so when I make a list, a really awesome vacation is usually my Big Goal.)
Pick-me-ups
(You didn't ask about this, but it seems related. And I'm wondering what others do!)
When I'm feeling down, or snacky, or I just need some kind of pick-me-up...
I start by making myself a cup of tea, usually.
If I had a nice bathtub, I would take a bath. (I don't. It's a bummer.)
If the hubs is around, I might cajole him into going for a walk with me, ideally somewhere with birds to look at.
I play video games where I can blow things up.
... I need more coping mechanisms. Let's make a thread!

IP is pretty hard on our livers, and alcohol is processed a lot like carbohydrates--so it'll reverse some of your progress if you drink during Phase 1. My clinic made me sign a thing with bold font and capital letters that said "no alcohol." They were very, very serious. I really wouldn't risk it.
If you decide to risk it, then at least go with a zero carbohydrate alcohol, like vodka or rum or whiskey, without any carb-laden mixers. There's a difference between club soda and tonic water, and I always get them mixed up, but make sure you pick the one that doesn't have added sugar!
You definitely want to avoid beer and wine; those have sugars in them.
I'm so excited, I have to share. Hubby and I will be celebrating our first anniversary in early July, and I convinced him to let me book a week-long getaway on the French Riviera! We just got confirmed for this place!! I should be very close to goal by then, what an awesome motivator I've never been happy in a bikini, maybe this will be the year ??!

The bracelet sounds BRILLIANT! Something tangible and meaningful to you. You seem more "girly" than you give yourself credit for and I love the idea of a cosmetic makeover. I have sort of let myself go a bit; there's probably(!) some psychology about self-worth in my weight gain and its time to be the woman I want to be. I really like the idea of the new thread for rewards and pick-me-ups. I'm hoping someone will run with that idea as I'm barely able to navigate this site!

Great advice my coach said IF I drink to drink crystal light and rum or vodka. But I never thought about the pain my liver will be going through so I think I will just hold off till u reach my goal. Thanx!!

That looks like an amazing vacation! What a great goal to have & I am sure you will make it!

It's been awhile it looks like since a thread was started, but here is one you can add to / bump for others:
1. Hubby and I celebrate our 20th next February and are planning a cruise / Caribbean trip
2. After 20 years of waiting, once I am with in 10/15 pounds of goal, I am getting a tattoo - and it's one I've been planning for almost 10 years, so it's not something I will regret

Those both sound like awesome rewards!
If you don't mind saying, what's the tattoo going to be?

Hello everyone! My name is Yvette. I did IP a few years ago and am back again. I didn't gain all my weight back but with all the stress I had in my life over the years I've put the majority of it back on.
My goal this time around is to focus on the maintenance of keeping it off. I know this program works. I know I'll lose it. My problem is keeping it off. So here goes. I'm hoping to be at my goal by July long weekend but if I'm not, that's ok too!
This site really helped me the last time so I'm hoping it will again.

I'm feeling very successful this week. I had 2 social events and I stayed OP. I love eating out on social occasions. So what keeps everyone going? What kind of reward and what milestones will you be looking forward to?
Not at all - its morphed a little but two dolphins making a heart shape - representing our 2 girls - and I need to work with an artist to help incorporate the additions - an azeala blossom representing my mom who passed in 09 and a couple notes of a song my dad arranged (he was a musician / air force band) and passed last May
My thought is to put the azeala blossom between the dolphins ( she loved all her grandkids) and encircling it with the notes from the piece of music
