Ive tried to go back on IP on and off over the past year and a half and just couldnt successfully do it. After months of being very overweight and incredibly uncomfortable Ive decided to do it again! Im 2 weeks in and Ive lost 10lbs, I havent cheated and I feel great about it. This week I went to 3 parties, brought my own foods and didnt touch the cake. It was hard at first but by the 3rd party, I sat at the table with everyone while they ate and I felt just fine.

This internal strength to resist is something I have never felt with food. I have always felt like a slave to sugary/fatty foods and Ive never been able to say no. I owe my wonderful bf (I started dating him while I was off IP and not on the forum) for being so supportive!
Welcome AK_RN It is wonderful when you have a supportive partner! My hubby can eat healthy carbs without a problem but is in his mid - 40's now and the weight doesn't stay off as well as ot used to, so we are both eatingn healthier, etc...makes a big difference when tons of processed snacks / foods aren't being made or brought in the house!
Congrats on the willpower! 3 parties! That is impressive just remember though at the end of the day, human willpower has limits! Best to be prepared- and it sounds like you have been!

As a nurse I've cared for a lot of middle-aged people with complications from diabetes (Type 1 and 2) and heart disease. I'm starting to feel like that age is not so far away, and I can't cheat my health forever. I feel absolutely wonderful in ketosis, and I'm actually waking up looking forward to a new day with new opportunities to continue feeding my body well.

I guess I'm feeling more "lifestyle change" than "weightloss" than I've felt in previous go-rounds of WW and everything else. I think this is a good thing!
Love Jimmy Moore - been following him and Mark Sisson (Marks Daily Apple) for a couple years. I know LC / paleo-ish is the most healthy way for ME to eat and I've seen the results. The problem for me has been discipline / guidelines. Atkins / general LC is too wide open and the results I've already seen in a little over 3 weeks of following IP protocol is enough to make me to realize that.

I am still gearing up for a tough slog once the majority of the weight loss is done - and you are right Lucky - this does require a major lifestyle change. I'm 38 with a family history of heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. 2 years ago I gave up soda for good and anytime I'm tempted to have one (generally traveling / eating out), my brain says 'that's poison' - and I order a water / tea or coffee. So I wonder why there are times I can't I do this with brownies, cakes, Doritos, etc...?

I have been keeping a food journal for the past week and on average I have been consuming about 1700/day. some days it is around 200 and others it is about 1400. I am careful about staying away from refined sugar and alcohol and baked goods like bread and pastries, muffins, etc. Not sure why the weight keeps creeping up so steadily? I feel bloated in my stomach and starting to feel a little uncomfortable in my clothes so I have decided to re-start phase one next week and work to get down to 150 (at least) and phase off again. Fingers crossed that it is as easy as the first time. I know it is mostly mental work. Once I get on track I will be fine. Would love to hear from others who experienced something similar and learn how you did second time around.
This Christmas, I gained almost 10 pounds in a matter of a few weeks. I didn't eat that much. I reached my goal, last summer and went up 5 pounds so know that is my water and carb gain. Rebooting now and plan to drop 5 pounds under my goal weight to see what happens. I have been OP for a month now and have barely lost anything. This weekend I had salmon and pork tenderloin, different days and went up 3 pounds. I have my physical today to see if something else is happening. I know any carbs are not good for me and still trying to figure things out. Keep at it Sully, I have found the second time around soooooo slow and frustrating but I am determined to reach my goal again.

Day 16 for me ! Things have been going well. I only lost 1.6 at my WI yesterday, but almost 4 inches. It's exciting to see my pants getting baggy. I have about 30 lbs to lose before my husband gets home from deployment in April!! My plan was to lose 3 lbs a week in 11 weeks. So I'm hoping to see bigger numbers on the scale in the weeks to come. I think my body is in shock and is holding out to see if I'm really serious about this

Me weigh in is tonight, and I'm excited! I think I will be about another 3 pounds down. Clothes are fitting better, even things that were way too tight a month ago are starting to get baggy! I haven't had to buy new sizes in years, somehow I can stay at the same size in about a 30 pound range, which I've stayed in for years now. It will be amazing to move out of that and actually go to a new size!

Oh man, me too! I love eating that way but I need the discipline of IP to lose weight. I think paleo is going to be my maintenance move. I don't think grains and I can EVER be "just friends"!

So true. One blogger I used to follow on WW started talking about this mental shift where she started to see candy and processed junk for what it was - chemically engineered to appeal to our desires and activate the addiction cycle. Of course, that's when I was doing WW and I was snacking on those two-point junk snack packs while reading it so I was all defensive. I know she was right though, and I'm getting closer to internalizing it as fact... Starting to really appreciate that this is a journey, and my past struggles will help guide my future actions!

Edit: This is the blog, it is a WW blog but a fun read and she is quite insightful. She had taken a long break, it looks like she may be back at it!

The comment about seeing processed food for what it is really resonates with me. If I think about it now (day 6 of IP and feeling good), I have some clarity about it and agree: if we thought about it regularly and what it is doing to us, who would want to eat it?! The problem, of course, is it tastes so good (scientifically engineered that way!) and is so convenient when life is so hectic.

This forum has been a wonderful motivator. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts. I've found some great recipes to help turn my bland veggies into delicious food (baked brocolli, turnip fries, cauliflower rice). I have had some hits and misses with the IP foods. I made the crispy cereal into a pancake with some pumpkin spice and it was great. I anticipate having to get more creative as the weeks go by!

4 inches is definitely nothing to sneeze at, good for you! Be patient cause each week is not the same. You will get there and be ready for your husbands return

Way to go on the new clothing sizes! It is the best feeling moving down in sizes

I am on my 7th day of my reboot today and am down 8.4lbs, I know from already doing IP in the past that most of that is water but I went from my scrubs and cloths fitting much to snugly back to being comfortable which makes me very excited to be back on plan and seeing results. Now I am just trying to keep myself focused so the continuous stress I am under from both work and my personal life don't push me back to stress eating! I look forward to continue our downsizing together.

How closely do you need to stick to the 2 tsp of oil? I find myself using about double. For roasting veggies and cooking meet.

I'm kind of bad about the oil. Some days I don't get it at all, though when that happens I try to get a little extra the next day. (Also, I take fish oil every day, so I always get *some* healthy fats.)

Yesterday, I made Crackslaw, which I treated as two servings, so I got an extra teaspoon (beyond the 2) of a different kind of oil, PLUS the extra fat that's in ground beef (as opposed to chicken)... though I drained and rinsed the beef really well, at least.

(85% lean is the closest I can get to "extra lean" ground beef in my neighborhood grocery store.)

I think it's best to go for an average of 2 tsp per day, but going a little over or a little under for a day or two is probably OK.

Hi all, I just completed my second week back on the plan. I lost 80lbs previously and gained it back due to lots of issues. I'm back and ready to make a change for the better!! I loved the support on here when I was OP before, definitely helped me to be accountable and to not beat myself up when I had a bad day! So excited to be on this journey with everyone!!!

Welcome back, Sara! And congrats on your loss!

I am new to this plan and trying to read up on everything I can. I've gotten great recipe ideas and information from these forums and feel like I can reach my goal for the first time in my life with this plan. I'm very excited about it.

As someone who has done the plan before, I'm sure you'll be a wealth of information here.

Keep up the great work!

Wanted to share one of my favorite chicken recipes so far.
Cut up chicken, season with steak seasoning(salt, black pepper, garlic powder) cooked on the stovetop. Mix walden Farms Ginger dressing mixed with some tamari. Pour over chicken once it's done. It's very yummy and satisfying. My kids said "this is healthy"

no measurements for the sauce. I just went with what taste good to me and it taste better once on the chicken.

I've also used the WF syrup in my coffee as a sweetener

Hi Sara!
Glad to have a number of people on the thread who have successfully lost weight before and agree with janby that for us newbies, your thoughts / advise will be much appreciated

Congrats on the 8+ Monica!

NSV - a pair of work slacks that didn't fit at all 4 weeks ago fit again! Slightly snug still, but I can deal with that

Scales = poo though (+1.6 this am from yesterday am) and while I would love to take mine and hide it, move it, take the batteries out until I am ready to weigh, I can't as hubby is also in the process of tracking his weight and is more obsessive than I am Also, I am still trying to pick a day of the week I want to do...officially I started IP on a Friday - but for some reason, Wednesday's tend to be my 'best' scale day.

& yes, I know not to put too much into the +1.6 - I (TMI!) need to have a BM (been 3 days), am retaining water, and I was stressed to the gills yesterday from work (cortisol) - and we got more snow (more stress / commute) - but no matter how much you tell yourself that, it's still frustrating...

Morning IPeeps! My husband and I went out to dinner last night with friends, and I was able to actually plan my day before hand, so I was ready when we went out. I stuck to my guns and had an 8 oz tenderloin filet (grilled without butter) and steamed broccoli. It was a BBQ place, so I was missing out on a few things, and everyone else got cheesy/messy/bready goodness. I didn't feel left out though, and my steak was delicious so I didn't feel cheated at all. I looked at the scale this morning, and I've lost 1.4 since yesterday, so I'm thrilled I stayed OP. It's certainly paying off!

My mom is coming to visit today, and she is on IP as well, so I'm looking forward to trying new recipes with her.

I understand your frustration, but it seems like you know what may be causing it! Still very frustrating though to not see the scale go down Hopefully you can get things moving and maybe relieve some of your stress. Good luck!
