SDChickie, I agree, the towel! :) I was amazed when I had lost like 25 pounds and I could fit into the tiny bathtub in my home. :)

I had a NSV yesterday. I got horrible news that stressed me. At first I thought, FOOD, which used to be my first response to any sort of emotion. Then I thought, no. About a half hour later, I made some herbal mint tea, as I know that helps to calm me.

Later I was still stressed, and just could not make myself eat, but finally at 3:30 I made myself a smoothie with protein drink. At dinner, I didn't want to eat either, but I roasted some veggies and had some seitan (vegetarian protein) with it. Simple, not that great tasting, but still I ate. :)

So even with some very stressful news, I stayed on plan. After using food to stuff emotions for decades, I had gained so much weight, and hated the way I felt. But that got me to the point of where I now know that no amount of food is going to take away the stress.

And not eating junk keeps me stronger mentally.

Yay, IP!!!! For getting me to this point. :)

SDChickie 12-15-2012 12:15 PM

Yay indeed! Congrats, Starshine, on that very healthy approach to stress!

And I agree that keeping junk out of our bodies improves our overall ability to function... mentally AND physically!

Way to go starshine!

My NSV for today. Just finished bagging up my donation pile that has been growing in the corner of my closet. I have clothes ranging from sizes 12 to 18 in those bags, and I know I well never need those sizes again. It was a little strange looking at the size 18 pants, I never really saw myself that size.

Completed the Lampsons Cable Bridge Run today with a better time than the Turkey Trot :woohoo:. This is the 2nd 5K have completed since starting IP..

Thank you! And congrats on bagging up those old clothes! You know, I never really saw myself at my heavier weight either. At least in my mind's eye. I just never felt like that was what I was. I always saw myself more of what I'm at now (just got into some size 12 Levis :) ).

I'm joining you in the clothing bagging today. My closet is FULL from getting "too small" clothes out of storage. I should have looked through those boxes more thoroughly before I went shopping ...oh well, it's only money & it grows on dancing broccoli trees:broc:

I should be doing that too. But, I'm too cheap to buy new clothes just yet, and I still need a little therapy. My brain hasn't quite caught up with all the changes that are happening. It's hard to process:)

If you find some, let me know! Even a lottery win would be helpful!

Mine was pretty necessary. I just didn't realize how many clothes I had stored that NOW FIT (argh to myself!) before I spent unneeded money! I posted a long post about fear (processing the change) on the 100% thread because I got quite a twinge when I started piling up clothes to get rid of. It was okay to get rid of old, more worn out ones but some were in really god shape. Much harder! But I worked thru it (besides I needed the hangers for clothes that actually FIT!)

benice 12-19-2012 10:09 AM

I totally feel you on the joy/pain of buying new clothes. It's so much fun to see the smaller sizes, but its tough to let go of very useable new items that were rather costly. But in the end, it will all work out. I need to do some "shopping" in my own closet to see if I can supplement my wardrobe! :)

Well, here's my NSV for the day. Actually, I killed two birds with one stone. At today's weigh in I hit my half-way point in this weightloss journey. I also achieved end of grad school weight!! WOO HOO!! It took me 3.5 years to get it on and 3 months to get it off. Not interested in seeing those lbs ever again! Next goal is start of grad school weight (162)...and then my "normal" weight of 145...hopefully by the time my wedding rolls around in April.

Thanks to everyone here for all of your support! Even though I'm primarily a lurker, I could not have done it without you! I especially love reading the NSV's. They are so motivating to me!!!

WOW! Way to go, benice!

My NSV for the day was a young female employee at Staples telling me, "Killer boots!" as I walked out the door in my recently purchased knee-high boots! lol!

Have another NSV to add... I finished C25K Week 8 Day 1 this afternoon... a 28 minute run... at a slightly faster pace and steeper incline than my last treadmill run! :woohoo:

Now it's time to wrap some presents! :D

Congratulations on BOTH your NSV's!! I used to love to run and you are inspiring me to pick it up again at some point. And nothing is better than a shoes compliment! :)

Starshine 12-19-2012 06:36 PM

Benice, that is huge! And congrats!

SDChickie -- what a thrill! You must look great in those new boots! :)

I dressed up as Santa today for the office party, and had to add lots and lots of padding to the costume!

Thanks, benice and starshine! ;)

When you feel like crap, RUN. This is my profound thought for the day.

Decided to say, "Screw the last 1.5 weeks of C25K!" and instead decided to just graduate today. I finished my first ever (running) 5K this morning. Improved my distance, incline, AND pace in one fell swoop. I'm impressed that being in a funk was such a great motivator for me... and running is a HECK of a lot cheaper therapy than a licensed counselor! On the other hand, I hope that it doesn't take repeated funks for continued improvements!

I know we're not supposed to cross-post, but I may have to share just my profound thought in the weekend chat thread... :D

WebRover 12-22-2012 03:29 PM

Bought myself a pair of size ten pants for work while out Christmas shopping. They're a little snug but they button and zip. All my size 12s are jeans. I was afraid back to work after the new year would come and nothing will be small enough. :)

I have to keep pinching myself. This is the first time I've truly believed I can get down to a normal BMI (8.4 pounds to go). It doesn't feel risky to buy clothes ahead, but necessary.

Fishette 01-06-2013 11:07 PM

Oh, no, say it isn't so! I found this NSV thread on page 9! I know we have so much good news to share!

I had a great time at the pool tonight. Last week I could only swim 800 meters (1/2 mile) in 30 minutes, and then all my muscles just gave out. But tonight I swam the full hour and swam just barely over 1600 meters. My best was 2000 meters in an hour, so I'm thrilled with the progress.

That's great! I wish I were more active when I'm not diving, but it looks like I'll be pretty sedentary for the next 4 weeks until I'm back in the water. It might be time to get back on the exercise bike. I definitely feel better when exercise is a part of my day.

For my own NSV yesterday, I pulled a pair of size 8 jeans out of my closet yesterday and was amazed when they actually fit comfortably! Before starting IP, I couldn't even zip them up (if I wanted to be able to breathe, anyway!).

Thanks! I still fill out the thighs more than I'd like, especially when they're fresh out of the dryer, but I'm on my way. It's encouraging to finally start seeing a discernible difference! One day at a time ....

usmcvet 01-08-2013 07:51 PM

The NSV's are huge be proud of yourselves. My pants are size 44 which is big. But it is 16" smaller than they were 154#'s ago. I ordered two new bathing suits today for our trip to St. Martin February 8th to the 15 th.

scorbett1103 01-08-2013 08:16 PM

I can't believe I forgot to post this here - my kids started swimming lessons on Saturday, the littlest one is in a "with parent" class. So I had to get in the pool with him. Said a little prayer, and threw on a bathing suit that I've not worn in at least 7 years. Not only was I TOTALLY comfortable in the swimsuit (even walked around the pool without a towel around me and didn't even feel self conscious), but I darn near had a wardrobe malfunction because the suit was a bit TOO BIG! Guess it's time for some winter swimwear shopping!!!

KitKat169 01-08-2013 09:08 PM

I have two NSVs today.
1. I have a chair in my living room that was "cozy/tight" to sit in while studying / reading 3FC. In the last week while I nursing my cats, my cats have taken to sitting with me and I discovered there was now room beside me for them to lay down! Even better today, 1 of them decided to curl up beside me which means he was extra wide and he still fit. My cat is a large breed, 19lbs so that means there is a lot more room than there used to be.

2. During the holidays I wrote a story of my journey to becoming obese and the changes with IP. I sent it to my coach, she asked if she could share it and I said yes. She sent it with the weekly email to all her current and former participants. I suddenly had second thoughts, but now it was out there for everyone, with pictures so they would know who I was. Today my coach sent me a note to say thanks. After seeing my story, several of her past clients who quit early or gained in maintenance came back to her for a restart, inspired by my story. I had a tough day at work but this email turned everything around. I feel so privileged to play any part in other's path to success. And I am so fortunate to have a coach that sends me notes like this to make my day!

scorbett1103 01-08-2013 09:16 PM

KitKat those are awesome NSVs!! You are an inspiration!

MSEMDEE 01-08-2013 10:39 PM

KitKat - those are great NSV's.
I just wanted to share that some how I have gone from size 24 dress slacks to size 20's. Didn't even realize they were 20's till I was already at work. YEAH for me!!! I felt good today!

MonicaKolesnik 01-08-2013 10:42 PM

The is awesome Kitkat, you would inspire me to restart if I needed it!!!

My NSV is smaller. I am happy to report I fit into a size 18 pants for the first time I can remember!!! So happy!!

lisa32989 01-08-2013 11:43 PM

The last 2 days (first 2 days back at work since 12/17) I wore pants that didnt fit before the holidays and my FL vacation. Today I added a blouse that was too tight in Dec.

I might not get to weigh yet but I'm still shrinking! (Oops! Forgot pics, sorry!)

starsandrockets 01-08-2013 11:55 PM

Finally fit back into my size 13/14 jeans which is good because I have lots of those to wear. Then I have one pair of size 11/12 skinny jeans to get back into. After that, I will have to go shopping for smaller pants.

SDChickie 01-09-2013 12:17 AM

Scorbett-- Love your swimsuit NSV! That's AWESOME! Not sure I will ever feel that comfortable in a swimsuit...

I have always loved the look of high boots ever since I was little but first I could not afford them and by the time I could I could never find any that fit, today I solved that problem thankx to IP! So excited!!!

The extra room is awesome. Today I heard Bob Marley a comedian on the radio. Last time I went to his show locally, it was very painful sitting in the seats in the Opera House built in the 1800's because they were so narrow. I had a private NSV in my mind as I thought to myself I am going next time he is in town and I'm gonna fit in the seats just fine now!

Yeah to smaller pants for the group! I need to go shopping this weekend for something smaller too. I have size 10 jeans a friend gave me that are small fitting. I can get them on but they are very tight. I hope that I can find other size 10's that fit (dress and casual pants) because my size 12s are getting hard to hold up.

I like Talbots for pants and they are having a good sale now. I buy curvy fit.

Thanks for the info. I've never been able to fit anything in Talbots before. I have to remember to try new stores because I'll probably fit.

Fishette 01-09-2013 10:40 PM

This evening I braved going to the gym at work. I've always avoided that gym because I didn't want my coworkers to see me struggling. But tonight I could see all kinds of definition in my arms such that I didn't mind all those mirrors everywhere. I think I looked pretty strong - that is until the weight stack would go up with only a weight or two on it! :o

vvei 01-10-2013 09:24 AM

So, before Christmas I bought 2 pair of pants at a smaller size... Then this week, I had to go buy more at an even smaller size... :)
