NSV brags

Given we are exactly a week away from Halloween (and all that candy and other bad-for-us stuff) and us Americans are one month away from Thanksgiving, I thought it might be fun to post our personal NSVs (non-scale victories for the 3FC newbies) to help us keep our resolve and maybe be inspiration to each other.

So many of you have far more impressive changes than I do, so I hope some of the bigger losers/maintainers weigh in.

For me personally:
*I'm currently less than 10 lbs away from going to "Obese" to "Overweight" BMI
*I fit into 3 pairs of nice office pants I hadn't fit in for the past 4 years
*My stretch jeans I bought a year ago that were a bit too snug most of the time for comfort just hang and bag up on me and I LOVE that feeling!
*I've lost about 2-2.5 inches average on each of the major torso measurements since starting
*DH has really been visually noticing the trim down for about a month now
*I commercially make pumpkin bread for a popular pumpkin patch around here and have not had a slice of it all season (and it's super delish)
*I can wear my wedding ring again comfortably after about 1-2 years not being able to

NEXT!

RN4Babies 10-24-2012 09:53 AM

This is a fun idea!

-My plantar fascitis is GONE! This was HUGE for me!
-My rings had to be resized down 2 sizes!
-I am 4 sizes smaller then when I got pregnant! I never dreamed I would lose my baby weight, and now it is WAY gone :)
-I'm actually getting excited for a trip to Key West with our friends, instead of dreading being the biggest one.
-Equally as exciting, 3 girls from work are now joining IP! I am so excited for them, because I know how it's changed my life!

And for my scale victory...I crossed 75 pounds this morning at weigh in (I lost some prior to IP)!

Can't wait to read everyone else's NSV brags! :)

scorbett1103 10-24-2012 10:00 AM

I'm in!

Let's see:

- I slipped into a size 12 skirt for work the other day, that I haven't worn since before I got preggers with older DS.
- My weight is in the 180's for the first time in six or seven years
- I run a cottage cake pop/baking business in my off hours and have yet to taste test anything - thank goodness hubby has a sweet tooth!
- My six year old said to me the other day "Mommy, you're small!"
- I can wear heels again without getting pain in my feet, now that there's less of me to hold up!
- I FEEL more confident than I have in a long while. I don't hide under baggy clothes anymore. I am more ME than ever before!

Onyxmom 10-24-2012 10:13 AM

I love this!
I can now wear clothing and shoes without a W in the size.
In spite of a stall in actual pounds lost, my size continues to go down. (I've dropped three sizes!)
I'm looking forward to getting on an airplane for the first time in MANY years. (We're going to Las Vegas for my 50th birthday next week.)

maezy1 10-24-2012 10:31 AM

Well I'm only 1 month into IP, well next Monday will be one month! I had a goal fo 15lbs for the month of October and I am 1.5 lbs away! I have to go down a pants size very soon becuz, well yall know how embarrassing big clothes are on you when they are falling off. (Im having to hold my pants legs up as I walk around becuz they are dragging on the floor!) DH is definitely noticing and loving it and more so, I am loving it!!!

southern 10-24-2012 10:48 AM

Newbie 1.5 months in, but two people have asked if I've lost weight even though I don't see it

GoalFor40 10-24-2012 10:55 AM

In the past few weeks I have-

- Attended a concert and fit in the seat comfortably and did not encroach upon my neighbor's space (this was big for me)
- Put on pants that have been hanging in my closet for at least five years, tags still on
- Had my picture taken and actually liked the result- edit to add: this is another big one, I have mentioned this elsewhere but I will reiterate: it is a great source of shame to me that my son (now 3, pictured to the left) will have about three pictures of me with him before the age of three. I am so sorry I cheated him out of this- now when I am long gone, he will have nothing to look back on from his earliest years, all because I was fat and couldn't stand the sight of myself.
- Got rid of a big pile of ugly clothes that were only purchased because I had no other options at the time

I will come back and edit when I think of more!

Edited to add:
- My joints don't hurt when I walk down stairs
- My shoes are so much more comfortable

Lakilaulea 10-24-2012 10:57 AM

My turn! My turn!!:D
  • The last pair of work slacks that I could stuff myself into is actually looking baggy now!
  • I no longer hear that 'swishing' noise from my thighs when I walk in said slacks!
  • I've lost 16lbs. since last month and am my lowest weight of this year.
  • My double chin is gone!
  • My once egg-shaped belly is starting to FINALLY flatten!
  • When I started on my Tread Climber again, I could only do 17min. at 1.3 pace; last night I did AN HOUR at 2.6 pace!

I'm definitely gonna hold onto this motivation through the holidays. I am DETERMINED to get below 200 by my birthday in January.

Great thread!!

RN4Babies 10-24-2012 12:09 PM

These are AMAZING! :carrot: A testament to all of our hard work and inspiration to keep going!

Keep them coming!

greeniris 10-24-2012 12:29 PM

I'm the smallest I've been since 1979!
Am wearing shirts/sweaters that are size small - a lifetime first!
I'm less than 15 lbs from goal.
My 32 yr old son called me a "hot mama" a couple weeks ago, and my mother called me "radiantly beautiful" - she's never called me beautiful before.
I can wear the ring again that my VIP gave me 2 yrs ago.
My high BP is back to normal.
I get called "skinny" a lot - LOL!

Those are definitely NSVs to brag about!! :D

Mufassia 10-24-2012 12:48 PM

Oh Goody! Totally a great thread for one of my couple-times-a-months 3FC ramble posts.

*I second the "skinny"; my dance instructor who met me about a year ago, said I was so skinny that I looked like a different person
*All of my super tight work out/dance clothes sag and hang like bark on a birch tree
*I can see my cheek bones!!!
*I can safely try on knee high boots at stores without suffering the embarrassment of trying to zip them up on my over-sized calfs
*Very little to no visible knee fat
*I am starting to fit into all my old cocktail dresses that have been abandoned in the closet for over 3 years
*No longer am I ashamed of my size in front of DBF's family

I could go on, but I'm more excited to read everyone else's; we should all be so proud of ourselves :grouphug:

Alma4343 10-24-2012 12:52 PM

I can no longer fit into the smallest clothes at the Big girl clothes stores :) And, my regular 16's are now too big. However, it is strange because the 14's are too small. It does seem I am often "between sizes". Alterations are so expensive!

Mufassia 10-24-2012 01:11 PM

Oh and a total +1 on not missing the thigh chaffing!

Yes. Totally had to roll a D6 for damage to my pants on that one before IP.

rainbowsmiles 10-24-2012 01:50 PM

In May of this year I went to England and had to use a Walking Cane to get around
Last month, Sept. I completed a 5K including a few run sprints in between the walking and I never quit!

I seem to automatically eat my veggies first!! and LOVE them!

I can walk up and down the stairs without using the railing AND walking down the steps normally instead of 1 stair at a time

I can fit into the bathtub....I CAN FIT INTO THE BATHTUB!! its a small narrow tub too!

my cholesterol is 124!!!

my seat belt in the car fits now!

if i need some veggies from the store, i can just pop in and walk around with a little plastic arm shopping tray instead of trudging along using a big rolling shopping cart to lean on

i'm much less afraid and intimidated to get out in public

i can actually ride my bike for 20 miles non-stop!!

i can easily tie my shoes

i can paint my toenails!!!

i can now fit into my white porch rocking chair!!!!

i can play tennis and volleyball with my kids!!!

i can see it working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's amazing- it used to seem like an unacheivable goal (back when I used diet pills and starvation to lose weight) but now I really feel like I will get there, too. Love the new pics in your sig, what a transformation!

Hgamroth 10-24-2012 03:17 PM

This will make me cry but here it goes:

* My daughter says she likes hugging me more now because her arms go all the way around me.
* My legs do not rub together anymore
* My planters facitis is gone
* I LOVE exercising
* I get smiled at by guys
* I have confidence
* I wear size 8 and I haven't been in this size since probably 6th grade.
* I feel that I have more job opportunities available to me because I am not being judged by my weight.
* I am a healthy, creative cook (THX RAINBOW AND LIZRR!)
* NO LONGER OBESE! I AM HEALTHY!:carrot:

ferrousgal 10-25-2012 11:03 AM

I'm loving the shares! :carrot:

Part of why I started this is because I don't really check the daily thread and I felt like we needed one spot to just post the NSVs if we wanted to help keep us inspired and on track to keep the good times rolling.

jampooh 10-25-2012 06:36 PM

This is small but every NSV helps with the goal! 3rd wk WI was yesterday, was good. I have been able to wear some rings that have been too tight for awhile. Not just wear them but take them on and off without soap to lubricate them.

this girl is awake 10-25-2012 07:25 PM

Rainbow, thank you so much for posting those. I am at a starting weight similar to yours and some of the things you mentioned are things I have struggled with. I can't wait till I can check off that whole list! :)

you can do it...make yourself determined that this is the last diet you will ever do....it won't be easy, but it will be worth it.

make yourself accountable to someone close to you

post in the threads often and try to exchange your phone number with a few 3fc members so you can't chicken out and drop out of sight!!

i wish you all the best!!!

southern 10-25-2012 07:55 PM

The dietician told me I don't look obese
NSV? I don't know how to take that

I know! I was called skinny today, and I'm still obese by all accounts. Strange.

Minch 10-25-2012 08:33 PM

I'm pretty new so I don't have any NSV's of my own yet but you should all be SO proud of yourselves for all of your accomplishments! One day I hope to have a list as long as some of yours. Congratulations to you all.

This thread is the most positive one on 3FC. Let's keep it going!

ddd849 10-25-2012 11:47 PM

Great NSVs everyone!!

I have some to share too. Tomorrow is my 10th WI and I expect to be down over 50lbs! Amazing. But that's a scale victory.
Some of my NSVs
-I have always been the biggest one in my family (I have two brothers) my older brother (7 yrs older) always called me his bigger brother. Not anymore!! He's about 20lbs heavier now. I am now the lightest of the three of us.
-got through Thanksgiving, visiting family with lots of restaurant/take out food and I haven't cheated!!
-bought a few new pairs of jeans. Couple of weeks ago. Size 34. I was wearing 40s and even gt as Hugh as 42s
-people at work are commenting a lot. 2 other guys from work have joined IP after seeing my success.
-I feel and sleep way better
-this week I went to my local clothier. They sell regular dress clothes and what I call big and fat wear (not big and tall). I was looking for some new shirts and couldn't find my size. The lady suggested I try the other side of the store. That's the skinny side!! I tried On a shirt and I could wear it, but it was a bit uncomfortable. I bought it anyway cause it won't take long.
-went shopping for a winter coat last weekend. My old one is 3 or 4x. The one I bought is a L! Wow! I tried on the XL, but it was too big. I couldn't believe it. I didn't want to go winter coat shopping cause I didn't have a flue what size to look at.

I can't wait to be able to buy all my clothes at regular stores. They are nicer, with a better selection and cheaper too.

Sorry for the long rant. But I'm pumped.
Lovin' IP! I wish you all great success.

RINGS!! My wedding rings are now falling off the point I can no longer wear them. This is not as much of a victory as it sounds, because I already had them sized up right after my pregnancy. But- now I am wearing rings I haven't worn in years, and some rings that I received as gifts that I never wore, because I was too ashamed to admit that I couldn't. Wearing two that fit that description today.

And in other ring news, my husband finally put his wedding band back on yesterday, after being three years without it. It made me so happy to see that ring on his hand last night, for all that it represents.

Thank you Rainbow! You are so great!

NSV today: I fit into a sweater I haven't been able to wear in a while. This is after only 2 weeks on IP! Also yesterday my pants kept falling down (lol not all the way down).

sahmmommy2 10-26-2012 12:30 PM

Awesome!

YAY EVERYONE! I love reading all of the NSV's. To me, they are so much more valuable than any number on a scale:) I am looking forward to my own NSV's. Right now, I'd have to say the biggest one has to be the change in my attitude! I feel like I CAN do this. First time in a long time I've felt that way, and it feels so good:D

Thanks for all the inspiration, and keep em coming!

Mandy

SDChickie 10-28-2012 06:40 PM

I shared this on the weekend chat, too, but wanted to mention it in this NSV thread...
A couple of NSVs for me in the past few days...

Cholesterol went from high 200s and LDL in the 100s to 146 with LDL of 77 without meds... just this diet and walking (w/ a little jogging thrown in) 3-4 miles/day. CRAZY great!

Fit into a size 16 pair of jeans last night... haven't worn that size for 20 years. Granted, I couldn't BREATHE very well, but holy crap, my arse looked good! lol! Within a week or two, they'll fit splendidly... and then will be too big. :D

tam67green 10-28-2012 06:49 PM

This is fun thread!
*My wedding ring fits again!!
*Forgotten clothes from the bottom of the drawers that fit again!
*Best of all, my blood sugar is way down. I was almost on insulin (it got that bad), but my doctor wanted to keep me on oral medication if possible. Now I'm hoping I'll be able to take that (and the blood pressure medicine) away for good eventually!!

maezy1 10-28-2012 06:59 PM

ok I m still new but I went shopping for shoes today and ahd to go down 1/2 size? weird but good

woohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this gives me hope!! soon, soon!!!

Kat117 10-28-2012 08:06 PM

I so needed this tonight!

I was in a negative mood and reading this thread really helped me re-evaulate my attitude!

I have been on IP for 9 weeks now. I don't seem to be a fast loser like so many buy I have to remember that 28 pounds in 2 1.2 months is nothing to sneeze at.

My NSVs...

I had to buy new pants - 2 sizes smaller!
My undies are too big! You know you have really lost when your undies are too big!
My knees no longer scream each time I stand up.
My LDL went down 65 points in just the first 4 weeks.
My sugar is down and I wont have to go on insulin!!! I think this is the best one so far.

Thank you all for posting your NSVs as they helped me realize this is about more than the scale!

Lose2Win 10-28-2012 09:11 PM

Many little NSVs so far, but one I am loving is the energy I have. I used to drag through the week, and look forward to the weekend just to sleep in....not good when working full time, being a wife, and a mother to a toddler....now I'm up bright and early, and ready to gooooo!! Lovin' this feeling :)

guil28 10-28-2012 10:42 PM

I am new at this but love this thread the NSV's are to me by far the best motivation!

2 weeeks ago my pants kept "rolling" under my tummy cause they were to tight and now they go down cause they are already to big!!!!

Also, I have already had a few people notice my weight loss wich to me is extremely encouraging because I have always been sooo self-conscious...

:D
