Okay, so I had to "adjust" my mini goals. They were just not obtainable with the 2 week set back from the cruise. I'm feeling a little crumby about it, but hey, I'm trying to be realistic as to not continue to feel as though I let myself down. I just dropped the numbers a little bit here and there and extended my final goal out 2 weeks. Who knows I may be like others here and not even feel the need to be that weight once I actually get there?!?! For now though, I'm moving forward! I'm still up a pound from meeting my 30 lb goal by May 28th, but in a day or 2 I'll have that one! (BETTER LATE THAN NEVER).
NSV, losing 30 lbs (almost) makes a real difference when your shave you legs, paint your toes, put on your socks etc. I didn't realize until this week how much difference it makes! It's so much nicer not having that extra fat get in the way.
Oh and bought a new scale. It does the .2 increments, so I love it! I have to get use to it, but so far I like seeing the numbers move down little by little.
***POLL: Do you guys adjust your trackers according to your own scales (daily) or only once a week after weekly WI with IP coach (or on your own if you're not using a coach)?
I too bought a new scale that measures .2 and like the way it goes down every day (almost) I post my weekly weight from my coach.

well I made it through the funeral and wedding yesterday with minimal damage, I ate a couple pieces of cheese and had a hot dog with no bun or condiments but man was it SO HARD; there was soooo much amazingly good food to temp me. My husband of course didn't help me in the least, he practically ate everything under the sun yesterday....UGH. Oh well, at least I didn't cheat and I don't feel like crap today unlike the husband....lol

I adjust mine only according to my weekly weigh in with my coach. My home scale is a little different, about 3-4 lighter, than my coaches scale. I think this is becasue I count my home weight as first thing in the morning, after going to the bathroom and before getting in the shower. Clothes and food/water can add that 3-4lbs easily.
Contrats to everyone on your NSVs, I know that some days they are the things that keep me going.
This weekend has been filled with family gatherings to remember my dear aunt and the wonderful, energetic, vibrant person she was. I have seen family that I haven't seen in months and even years. Many comments which will keep me motivated for awhile, "You look fabulous," "I like your haircut" (which cracks me up beacuse it is usually a comment made when they can't put their finger on what is different), one uncle said "so do you want to lose about another 30lbs?" and one aunt even dared to call me "skinny." I love my family and am looking forward to seeing them all again in two months when we celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of one of my aunts and uncles.
I have been able to make good choices food wise since my baking incident on Friday, but I wish stress didn''t make your body hold on to water the way it does (Up 2.2lbs on my scale). I know that my water and veggie intake has not been what it should be, but I didn't have any of the fresh fruit, cheese, crackers, or brownies at the reception. I didn't have any punch, wine, or beer either. I did have some chicken skewers and a bacon wrapped scallop, but I decided they were less evil even not knowing how they were prepared. I had had a drink before the second reception, but needed something of substance and there were no veggies, so did the best I could. I did skip all of the sauces that were there for dipping.
Anyway, another gathering today and I think I will bring a green salad as I have been missing that lately.
I am looking for the big mac recipe, am scouring the recipe threads, can anyone help? It might be a good idea to throw it on here for all those who are attending BBQs over the weekend. Thanks!!
I found it! HA! So in case anyone is curious, here it is.
1/2 pound raw ground beef, about 5 1/2 ounces cooked weight or 153 grams cooked *
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 teaspoon minced dry onions
46 grams dill pickle slices or 2 dill spears, chopped, about 1 5/8 ounces
2 tablespoons WF Thousand Island Dressing
1 1/2 ounces iceberg lettuce, shredded
Brown the ground beef, drain off any fat, season with salt and pepper.. Meanwhile, soak the dry onions in a little water to rehydrate them. Put the meat in a large salad bowl and add the remaining ingredients. Toss and eat at once.

Reason: found that recipe that was eluding me!
I'm glad you mentioned PB2 - I have been using this for years now when i was weight watchers, I just happen to be house/dog sitting for my parents and this morning as I was getting ready to head to work, I noticed they had some in the cabinet - (my dad loves it on his vanilla ice cream) i read the label and thought, why can't i put a teaspoon in my chocolate pudding shake this morning, so that's what i did - I'm actually enjoying it now!!! They actually came out with a chocolate PB2 in the past year or so...
I saw that! I haven't tried the chocolate but thought it sounded really good! I made mine up as pb and used it on celery or toasted sprouted bread. Once in a while, I did add it to my protein drinks, back then, as a replacement for my omega oil and for variety. For me it was a great low fat no carb option. I haven't used it yet but, look forward to adding it in the future.

This is not a normal part of my diet and I am hypothryoid - so don't know if this is a good thing or not. I guess back to "eat a wide variety" of foods. That is rather difficult on IP Phase I, and I'm trying to keep a balance of trace minerals and vitamins.
My coach substituted vitamins from her health food store to use with the program, but I'm scared to use them because they are unlabeled and I have no idea how much Vitamin A and other in them! So I stick with Centrum Silver (that advises right on the bottle NOT to take any additional Vitamin A supplements with Centrum), and Citracal. I'm just not into health food store products - unregulated and scary to me! One of the pills I received was called "Old Amish" vitamin - one can only guess!
If you are hypothyroid, as I am, it is highly possible you don't have enough iodine in your body. Can you call your doctor's office and find out where your iodine stands based on recent blood labs. In general, what I have found, was best summarized in The New England Journal of Medicine when it published new research from China that looked at the relationship between iodine intake and thyroid disease. The June 29, 2006 issue noted the researchers concluded that "more than adequate or excessive iodine intake may lead to hypothyroidism and autoimmune thyroiditis."
There is also an accompanying editorial by Dr. Robert Utiger, which says that "the small risks of chronic iodine excess are outweighed by the substantial hazards of iodine deficiency,".
There is a definite reason to be caution though! The studies have found that if you have a tsh of 2 or greater and show antithyroid antibodies that increasing iodine can actually cause a CONTINUED state of hypothyroidism rather than an improvement.
I spoke with my doctor and have found that my body needs a low level of iodine supplementation. I was much lower in selenium though that iodine so I take a fair amount of selenium each day. I have seen in my blood labs that my hypothyroid activity is returning to an almost normal range in the past 6 months.

It is such a confusing topic! Many people don't get enough information about the difference in bmi (something used more by insurance actuaries) and the Body fat percentage range (used for health). In fact, because it is "easier" a lot of Drs are relying too much on a bmi which can be very inaccurate as it doesn't account for muscle weight versus fat weight. As we all know, it is the fat that is so detrimental to our health!
Did you know that misses and juniors sizing is different by about 1 size? There is quite a bit of change for the ready to wear industry as far as sizing. A girls size 14, a juniors size 1, a misses 25 or size 0 ARE ALL the same measurements. If you were a size 7/8 juniors then you were a size 6 misses. PROVIDED those sizes were worn with in the past decade. There were some sizing changes that took place about 20 years ago. We also have had a huge change in sizing in the past decade as we outsource to India and China where, if an inexperienced buyer fails to state measurements and orders by size alone, will get a size fitted for that countries measurements. It explains why some womens XL seems so small these days!

So, I challenge us all, when we are considering eating something that we are not so sure about, or that we know we shouldn't, ask ourselves if this is good for our overall health, not only our weight.
Thank you for such a good reminder! It is truly a great, and healthy, way to look at and have a relationship with, food!

If you have the time, I have a question... training related. I want to go back to strength training, and my trainer is dying to get my back at it. Unfortunately, he is a real boot camp marshall! I love it but, he keeps my heart rate pumping, no breaks really between sets. For instance, I will go from a lat pull down to a bench dip or mountain climbers and back again. THE QUESTION... how do I tell him I am interested in some muscle training but, I need to keep the heart rate low. He is convinced he knows better and is ready to "push back" for me to the IP people telling them they are wrong to exclude exercise. OR, do I not even bother, just do light cardio, gentle yoga, and some light weights on my own? I have been training with weights since 1985 so I more or less know how to use all the equipment, and what exercises to work in what order for my muscles. I have had a trainer most of the time since 1992 (1992-94, 96-99, 2000-2002, 2005-2009). The biggest reason was to have an appointment at the gym I wasn't inclined to skip and to have someone to push me when I wanted to call it a day.

I am sorry to hear you had to attend funeral/memorials. It is good to know that you managed to keep to the program during such a sad/emotional event!

I am so sorry for the loss of your Aunt. How great that others were so complimentary of your success! I am sure they will be equally impressed in two months!
WELLLLL....my husband booked tickets to go to Germany today!!!! We leave on July 6th..boy oh boy would I love to be down to 175 by then....BUT I am worried about what I am going to eat when we are there for THREE WEEKS!! Yiks!!! Any ideas would be welcome....I am excited but nervous too, we will be staying with my husband's cousin and family..so no hotels to contend with.
I guess I can take the protein packets, but probably NOT the ready to go puddings and drinks?????

Yeah I say you explain to him (I have to guess it is a him because of his approach LOL) that you need to keep your heart rate down based on the Ideal Protein Protocol, you can do weight training to build muscle but tell him to ease off on the high intensity stuff for now. Tell him to keep you at Fat Burning level... not Cardio training. Maybe he needs to know you are not aiming to lose weight with him but rather get definition.
It is hard for them to get that, but ultimately you are the client and if he does not adjust to your needs them maybe get a gentler one for a bit that will focus on building muscle for a bit.
Well I did my first 5km race and beat my best time ever, only by 4 seconds but still unfortunately Im a little afraid tht I knocked myself out of ketosis by running as hard as I did and today the scale says I gained 2 pounds (WTF) and right after the race I had 1/4 of a bagel to replenish but i had to so if i kicked myself out it wasnt because I purposely cheated. Hopefully there is a minimal damage..Im now training to run another 5km in october and want to do it under 30 minutes.

Have a great evening everyone.
You have water gain my friend... that is why people should never weigh themselves after a work out...don't worry about it. I promise you it will be fine.
When we work out our muscles get "pumped up" from blood flow and water.
""The Pump" is the tight, blood-congested feeling in a muscle after it has been intensely trained. Muscle pump is caused by a rapid influx of blood into the muscles to remove fatigue toxins and replace supplies of fuel and oxygen. A good muscle pump indicates that you have optimally worked a muscle group."
Also when you run like you did we tend to drink lots more water so I honestly would not worry.
Like I have said here (ad nauseum it seems LOL) look at how your clothes fit more than the number on the scale
Give it a day or two and see

I was wondering if any of the girls here living in Canada know a site like netrition.com to order some walden farms, PB2 and others things. I'm really tempted to order from them, but it's like 55$ for shipping to Canada..
and Jordanna I was wondering what you're doing to keep your carb under 25 a day. I'm keeping track of my food, and it seems like i'm always at 40-50 carbs a day, wich seems a lot to me..
We have many veggies that are allowed but does anyone have taked the time to compare them and see wich one are really low low low carb?

I am so impressed! I have always wanted to run or jog. Have you always done that? If not, how did you work yourself in to it?
TO JOURNEYSEND What to eat in Germany? Pickles, pickles, and more pickles! tee-hee! Sauerkraut (mmmmmm) with protein.....but not bratwurst! Wait and see 'til you get there. I must say that I treated myself 25 years ago in Bavaria to a raspberry dumpling complete with sweet cream sauce....a foretaste of Heaven, indeed!
